Savannah Tech Police Cadet, employed by Statesboro PD, arrested for stalking ex-boyfriendAdded:
She resigned recently while under investigation by the department, and our Madeline Barstow got that 911 call you just heard from from that night. She joins us now live in studio to break down the lengthy investigative report.
Madeline, what are you learning?
Joe, this officer in training or cadet was arrested at her ex's house last month. But, what's more disturbing is allegations in this 20-page report saying she lied in wait for nearly 8 hours.
A Savannah Tech police cadet working for Statesboro PD was arrested for stalking, family violence, criminal trespassing, and disorderly conduct. 30-year-old Rebecca Sheffield did not complete Savannah Tech College Police Academy, and her post file reflects she resigned from Statesboro PD while under investigation. That investigation followed allegations that she stalked and harassed her ex at his home back in April.
I have an ex here. Um, she's tre- she's trespassed.
She has no belongings here.
Um, she has put her hands on me. That's audio from the 911 call made by Sheffield's ex-boyfriend outside his home on Lily Street in Statesboro. She doesn't reside here. She doesn't live here.
Um, she just showed up. The report in this case details Sheffield asked her ex's neighbor if she could park her car in the neighbor's shed with the door shut.
>> live around here.
Um, sorry. I I think your vehicle is stashed somewhere. That neighbor said Sheffield was waiting there from 3:00 p.m. until 11:00 that night when the confrontation happened. As her ex came home from a date with another woman, Sheffield approached, pushed, threw her phone, and tried to go through the front door, the report says. His father called 911 asking her repeatedly to leave.
Then, Sheffield was arrested.
All right. After she bonded out of jail, she was placed on administrative leave.
A formal internal affairs investigation started, but she resigned while under investigation. A 20-page Internal Affairs report reveals Sheffield allegedly lied in wait with her police weapons in the car also for nearly 8 hours, none of which were used in the confrontation.
Statesboro's police chief did pass along my number to Sheffield and told her she could reach out if she wanted to. We've also tried reaching her directly, but have not heard back yet. Reporting live in studio, Madeline Barstow, WTOC.
