So guys, remember when having a 5000 mAh battery was a big deal just a few years ago around 2024? Brands used to double underline it in press leaves, but today in 2026, 5000 MA is not even mentioned.
India's smartphone market is in the midst of a battery arms race. Today the 7000 MA has become the new base line. 9000 mA has become a highlight, and at least one phone has even broken the 10000 mA barrier. And the craziest thing is that this fuss brick is not as heavy as a brick. Hi Guys, I am Praveen Bhajanka and this is 91 Mobiles. So what happened suddenly in the last 2 years?
Let's decode. The idea of bigger batteries is not new. In 2020, Samsung launched the Galaxy M51 which had a 7000 mAh battery.
Motorola also launched the Moto G24 Power in 2024 in the budget segment which had a 6000 mAh cell. But there was an obvious problem with these, bulk. The Galaxy M51 was 9.5mm thick and weighed 213 grams [Music]. Conventional lithium ion batteries have limits. So more capacity meant a physically bigger and heavier phone. Then the game changer enters. Silicon Carbon Battery Technology. Chinese manufacturers have been working on this for a long time. Look, traditional lithium ion batteries use graphite as the anode, which has an energy storage limit of around 372 mA per gram. Silicon can theoretically store up to 4000 mA of energy per gram.
10 times more than graphite [MUSIC].
But there was a cache. Pure silicone expands up to 300% when charged. Due to which the battery gets damaged quickly. Its suspension was derived by embedding silicon into a carbon matrix. The carbon [MUSIC] acts like a sponge and keeps the expansion to 10 to 20%. The result is that brands no longer have to compromise between high MA and thin phones.
Now you will think whether it has any benefit in the real world? The Answer is a Massive. Yes. According to testing data from 91 mobiles, average battery sizes have increased across every price segment. The 2024 phones lasted an average of 13 hours on the PC Mark battery test.
In 2026, it jumps to 15.5 hours. Efficiency has also increased in gaming.
Top performers like the Vivo T5 Pro and OnePlus N6 saw just a 4% battery drop after half an hour of heavy gaming.
Mostly Chinese brands are leading this shift.
Realme and IQ are the most aggressive in this. In fact, Realme P4 Power has become India's biggest battery phone with a 1001 mAh cell. But where are Apple, Samsung and Google? Samsung has openly stated that in their internal testing [music] this tech has not yet passed the validation standards. Apple always waits for the technology to mature.
If an iPhone battery fails, it becomes big news.
And Google is still relying on software optimization of its Tensor chip.
But let's be [music] honest. When mid-rangers are two days old, this argument for Google is getting harder every [nasal sound] year.
8000 [MUSIC] MA may soon become normal as the tech matures.
