jump. White noise is kind of strange.
It's sort of everything and nothing at the same time. This is because white noise is just a random signal with equal intensity at different frequencies. And when I say different frequencies, I I just mean all of them. But if white noise is every frequency at equal intensity all of the time, doesn't that mean it technically has unlimited possibilities? Maybe. But the problem is white noise sounds the exact same no matter what key you end up pressing. A problem for me since today I want to sample it. So here's how I'm going to solve it. So, it actually turns out that doing any of these is really hard with just white noise. But I'll show you what I did find out I can do. Probably the easiest, fastest way to get some white noise if you're in FL Studio. This plugin right here, the 3X oscillator. The default thing is certainly not white noise, though. If we just random, there you go. Oh. Oh, wow.
White noise. Sharp, annoying, irritating, loud white noise. Because white noise, there's no real tones being played. It's just everything at the same time. I have to turn it into something that I can actually make melodies with. The way I'm going to do that is with this little bugger right here. And also the keyboard. Actually, you're going to see what that has to do with this. All we really need to do is get a little little thing like that.
So, this is obviously just going to highlight a few frequencies, which means the lower ones will sound lower, the higher ones will sound higher.
Theoretically, all I would need to do is lock this to whatever note I press on the keyboard, and I'll actually get different frequencies. FL Studio has the Fruity Keyboard controller, which is like any note I play shows up here. This is it's a controller for other stuff. It's basically literally just a controller for other things. So, I can set Yeah, this is what's changing the frequency. So, all I'd have to do is connect the notes on this keyboard from the controller to the EQ. And now you see it's it's moving around.
The different notes I press, they go to different locations. I can play different things. Now, you you might be wondering, why don't we just link this to the actual physical MIDI keyboard.
I'll tell you why. Because if I were to do that, let's Dude, that's if I even know how to link it to the That's internal, bro. Yeah, I got to be honest. I don't actually know how to work this. But I do know that if I press this and then just press the keyboard, it's linked now. with the problem being it doesn't really play the note at the same time as it moves the uh the frequency. So that's kind of why I have to link it to this. And it's not perfect because we press C. This is C, but it's actually not C because if we go to key and they go to C, say C5, it's a little bit lower. Maybe it's C6. Maybe it's C6. E6.
Yeah. See, this is this is what my C is, which is 825 C5 523. Even if we go up, that's like 1,047. So, definitely not perfect, but you know, this is this is this will this will at least work for the most part, right? Only thing is I obviously cannot play with the EQ and the 3x oscillator at the same time. This is a problem I don't actually know how to solve, but I'll tell you what we can do. Let's say if I wanted to make a melody like boop boop boop boop, right?
All I have to do is copy and paste this.
And you can hear that we actually get different frequencies. So I recorded that little melody and put it into new tone to make sure I could find the right notes that I was hitting and be in the key and scale just to make sure cuz I put the notes there, but it might be different, you know. But that didn't go exactly as planned. So, this is what happened. Wow, that is confusing cuz these are these are these are supposed to be two different notes and it's supposed to go up.
So, that makes things hard. Like, how does how how in what world is this going down? I don't know. Either way, we can sample this and turn this into something cool.
All right. Going for a little bit of a retro game feel. Kind of Fruger Arrowy, but yeah.
After all that, I just put a drum sample on there and then also did some automation stuff just to make the actual like arrangement of the song a little bit more interesting. And if any of you are making video games, by the way, I would love to work on some music for everyone. I'm just throwing that out there in case anyone sees this and they're like, "That's me." I'm not really the best at making those types of drums, but I do really want to improve at it, especially since I'm using that so much.
