A cloudy, cool, and wet Thursday is ahead, with winter alerts for the mountainsAdded:
And now, your First Alert [music] 5 weather.
Check it out. We've got rain and even some snow showers across the state of Colorado this afternoon. Widely scattered, definitely hit or miss this evening, but I expect us to get even more moisture Thursday and on Friday.
And so, by the end of this week, the majority of our region will have had some precipitation. Let's zoom in a little bit. Las Animas County filled in very nicely with some rain showers this afternoon. Some of those also just hanging out south of Highway 50. So, unfortunately, the Arkansas River kind of dry at the moment, but don't worry, we'll get precipitation by the end of the week. So, right now, we're looking at some moderate to heavy rainfall moving through El Paso County. Some of the heaviest stuff has now started to clear out of Colorado Springs moving moving into the Falcon area and up towards Highway 24 into northeastern El Paso County. We also have a wintry mix falling in Teller County right now. So, in Teller County, there's likely to be some light accumulation of snowfall here tonight. In Creek right now, you can see it is actively snowing. The awnings and elevated surfaces are getting some accumulation. Road conditions are doing okay.
But, we're going to be more concerned about travel impacts in Teller County and our mountain zones starting tomorrow. So, I want to walk you through these winter alerts that have been posted. For Westcliffe and the Wet Mountain Valley, as well as Teller County, this will be in place from 6:00 a.m. on Thursday till noon on Friday. In pink is winter storm warnings. A step below that in intensity would be the purple winter weather advisories. For the Wet Mountains and the Sangre de Cristos, as well as Raton Pass, that is from Thursday 6:00 a.m. until midnight Friday night. So, lasting a little bit longer as showers linger a bit later.
So, we've got the scattered rain showers here tonight and I expect them to continue. We will see a wintry mix and some snow showers into the higher elevations here in the overnight hours, but it should be relatively light. We'll have a bit of a lull in the precipitation early on Thursday before it starts to ramp up again as we head into Thursday afternoon. And we will see a changeover to snowfall on Thursday afternoon below 8,000 ft. Eventually, overnight Thursday night into Friday morning, we will see a changeover to snow as low as 6,000 ft in elevation, which will include portions of Colorado Springs, perhaps Walsenburg and Trinidad as well. But, for some of us, will stay as rain. I think Cañon City and Pueblo will stay as rain during this event even into Friday morning. So, Friday morning now, we're starting to see the system come to an end, but some showers will linger later, especially in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range.
That's where it'll be the latest with that winter storm warning expiring until not until midnight on Friday night. So, we got some good moisture on the way.
Snowfall amounts will mostly hug our mountain zones where we have those advisories and warnings posted. For most of I-25, this would be just kind of a slushy, sloppy mess in terms of snowfall. Although, Monument and Black Forest will probably pick up several inches, but it's really the highest impacts expected for Teller County. And on the top of Pikes Peak, we're expecting a couple feet. So, I'm expecting it to be tough to get up there for a while. So, for Colorado Springs, we've got a dreary, wet day on Thursday.
Some showers are coming to an end on Friday. And then, I'm happy to report that the weekend is looking lovely, back to the 60s with sunshine. But, into next week, we'll keep those shower chances around. We're not completely drying out in the extended forecast as the weather pattern remains quite active. So, in Pueblo, you're likely going to stay as rain during this entire event, picking up some good moisture in the next couple days.
Same for you in Cañon City. Temperatures will be in the 50s Thursday and Friday and into the middle 30s Thursday night into Friday morning. Many of us could see a light freeze on Friday night into Saturday morning. Woodland Park, you're definitely going to have some higher impacts from this storm. We have you up to a four out of five because you have a winter storm warning that's in place pretty much all day Thursday up until noon on Friday. High snow totals will make for hazardous travel.
