Homesick in Portugal? 8 Things We Miss More Than ExpectedAdded:
You going to You going to start a war.
First of all, you want to put your finger in my face.
>> You going to start a war with the internet. Okay, Waffle House is delicious, okay?
>> We've been in Portugal for 6 months.
>> Jeez.
>> 6 months now.
>> Crazy [music] to think that it has just been 6 months of us living here.
>> 6 months.
>> With that being said, I mean, the most obvious, friends and family. We [music] definitely need separate friends and family.
We still talk to them, telephone calls and FaceTime because the internet and technology is great these days. So, we are able to still see [music] them and not too long ago, my parents were able to come and spend my birthday with us.
>> Yeah.
>> So, being able to have them here, we are able to show them around and why we absolutely love Portugal. It was a really great trip.
>> Something I do miss about the US is watching [music] American football and basketball. I'm I'm a huge football fan.
Shout out to my Tampa Bay Bucs. The four-time Brady. The four-time Brady.
The four-time Brady. Watching live sports, watching American football or even doing fantasy football. Yeah, I do miss that. Um I can do it. I I think I was about to do it last year, but just [music] the time zone is different. So, we'd watch the games at 11 or 12 at night. It's just I couldn't do it. So, I didn't do fantasy football. [music] I'd definitely say that's something that I do miss.
>> Something else that I miss is breakfast items, like breakfast foods. I'm a foodie. I love to eat.
>> Okay.
>> Here in Portugal, breakfast isn't really a big [music] thing here. They're heavy on on lunch and heavy on dinner.
>> Mhm.
>> Breakfasts are usually [music] a cup of coffee and a croissant. I miss my Waffle House. And And I like it.
>> Oh.
>> I miss Waffle House.
>> Don't say that on on here.
>> IHOP. You know, every now and then just like a good breakfast restaurant or even just going out to brunch to have breakfast foods. You going to You going to start a war.
>> First of all, you won't You won't start a war. Don't put your finger in my face.
>> You going to start a war with the internet. Okay?
>> Yeah.
>> Waffle House >> [music] >> is delicious. Okay? There are restaurants here in Portugal that do sell some breakfast items. For example, pancakes. Pancakes here are not a breakfast item. They're more of a dessert. So, when you order them, it has ice cream and sprinkles on it. Not something that we want to give a 5-year-old first thing in the morning.
They do have them, but it's just It's just a little bit different than what we're used to. So, I would say that's something that I kind of miss. We can cook them here at home, but sometimes I just >> You want someone to do it for you.
>> I want someone to do it for me.
>> [laughter] >> You could definitely do it in Lisbon.
They have so many brunch spots there.
Every time we go to Lisbon, you make sure we go to a brunch spot.
>> Yeah.
>> I'm still getting adjusted to, you know, your living in Portugal living, but I do miss my American size appliances.
>> Yeah.
>> I do miss it. Um, you know, having a big old microwave or oven or when I had that double oven.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> You know what I'm saying? I had that double oven, you know what I'm saying?
>> Fancy.
>> You know what I'm saying? Can warm and bake at the same time. You know, y'all don't know.
>> him nothing.
>> Couldn't tell me nothing, but yes, I think that's something that I do miss.
Or even the refrigerator. Our refrigerator is like maybe >> [music] >> half or a third of the size that we had before. Um, which is not a bad thing. It allows us to not having to put so much stuff [music] in the fridge and you know, things spoil or we forget things.
Uh, you know, that we Oh, we I forgot we had this in the fridge.
>> Yeah.
>> So, it allows [music] us to be able to kind of live a different life and a way of different way of cooking, which is not bad, but it's something that we're getting used [music] to, but I would definitely say American size appliances or even the the washing machine. I remember like if it was our old washing machine, we >> Everything could go in there.
>> Yeah, we could dump [clears throat] all that in there and it'll be washed. So, >> And I think I've mentioned this uh on our previous video is the combo seasonings.
I miss the combo seasonings, y'all.
Portugal does have, you know, the garlic pepper, I mean, the garlic salt, some [music] garlic powder, onion powder.
They have all of those. But, sometimes I I want to have some of the [music] specialty mixed ones, like my lemon pepper. My mom did bring that with her when she came. Shout [music] out to my mom.
So, I do miss having some of the combo seasonings and do understand that the [music] What is it? Like the food and safety regulations are different here in Portugal compared to the States. So, they don't have as many because they have like artificial flavorings and and colorings in them and those aren't really something that they produce here.
>> When you said artificial stuff, it kind of triggered me in regards to something I kind of miss, but I'm going to use to not having it anymore is like deli meats.
>> Yes.
>> So, back in the States, you can get honey roasted turkey.
>> Honey roasted ham.
>> I mean, you can get >> All the flavors.
>> All the flavors. Whereas, what we found here is that they don't got all that.
Oven roasted >> Or smoked.
>> or smoked. That is it. There's no other flavoring that's happening. And other I think that's pretty cool, but I do say that sometimes, you know, having that mystique or that uh you know, honey roasted ham.
>> We did find in the clerk though that they did have pastrami. And they called it Chicago pastrami. I bought it, tasted [music] just as good. So, I can at least do a pastrami and and ham sandwich and be okay. Something else that I miss from the States [music] >> Okay.
>> is certain fast foods. Not all fast food, but certain. It's only been 6 months.
Give me Give me a chance to adjust.
>> Okay.
>> But, we do have Burger King, McDonald's.
We have a KFC.
>> They have a Subway in Lisbon.
>> There's a Subway in Lisbon. So, there are certain fast food restaurants that are still here, but every now and then I'm like, I could really go for some Chick-fil-A. We don't have [music] Chick-fil-A.
Every now and then I just want a little little chicken nugget from there.
>> Some some some waffle fries.
>> I want some waffle fries. It doesn't happen often, but I will say [music] like certain foods. And going along the line with that, with KFC, they [music] do have fried chicken, but it's it doesn't quite hit the same. Still the same 11 herbs and spices that they have.
[music] But I think maybe the oil that they fry it in, it doesn't crisp up as much as I would like. You see, I'm really heavy on my food. [music] >> You're you're you're a country girl.
>> I'm a country girl.
>> You're a country girl. You didn't even hot dogs.
>> No.
>> You didn't mention that last time.
>> I mentioned that in the last one, you know, cuz now that it's summer time, I want to get those hot dogs.
And we're going to figure this out. I'm going to go to all the grocery stores and and figure it out. Someone mentioned >> She has some places in the comments.
People mentioned going to >> Aldi or Lidl.
>> Or is it Lidl or Aldi? [music] >> Okay, but we'll try there. We're going to go We're going to try them all and I'm going to document my journey so that you can see if I find >> [music] >> my girl tacos.
>> So you're going to have a video of you just popping hot dogs in your mouth.
>> All the hot dogs. Guys, I'm on the journey bringing you guys along.
>> Wow. I am a beloved Costco lover. I love me some Costco. I used to go almost every 2 weeks.
Sometimes [music] every week.
>> I might as well say, don't lie to them people. It was every week. Costco.
>> That's where you go to >> Be real.
>> It it was every 2 weeks. If I had to get a you know, tire change or you know, how to get new tires, you know, or something happened where I needed to get back over there.
>> Right.
>> Sometimes it'll be every week, but for the most part it was every 2 weeks. I'm going to go with that.
>> Okay.
>> I'm going to go with that. Do you miss me some Costco? Be able to quickly run over there and you and you know, just walk around. Of course I'll buy something because [music] you can't leave Costco without buying something.
They do You a Costco in Seville. So they do have one in Spain. That's the closest one, 4 or 5 hours, and I haven't been yet. A lot of people have told me that it looks just like a Costco in the US.
Anyway, so I think that's something that I miss. Frequency of me going to Costco like I used to before.
>> I'm sure you have plenty of people out there who agree with you and enjoy their Costco runs.
>> I know.
>> Just to walk around and see what [music] they got. You don't even got to buy anything.
>> Just and then >> Just to look.
>> And then figure out where they moved something. Why did you put it over here?
>> It is a scavenger hunt every time you go into Costco.
It was It was [music] here yesterday, but where did they put [laughter] it?
I don't know where it is, but it always fun going to Costco. But those are just a few of the things that we miss from back [music] in the States. We'd be curious to know if you were to move to a different country, what would be some of the things that you would miss the most.
>> Well, I think those are some things that are top of mind that [music] we miss because we're still new here. This is only being here 6 months, but we're loving being in Portugal. We're loving the new life that we're living, but also because we're still [music] new, kind of miss the US.

>> What scene?
>> I don't know.
I just felt like I wanted to be a reporter.
