Data from the American Heart Association reveals that cardiovascular deaths began increasing in 2011 after a long decline, specifically affecting a subpopulation genetically damaged by opioids; when researchers presented this evidence to the CDC and FDA, the agencies failed to recognize its significance and dismissed the findings without providing alternative scientific explanations, highlighting a critical failure in public health surveillance and scientific communication.

Behind the Scenes of the FDA/CDC SUBMISSION本站添加:
Hey everybody, this is Dr. Doug Smith.
So the question yesterday is what is shocking to your conscience? Look at what's on the screen. What you're looking at there is data from the American Heart Association. This is among the most trusted data in the world. And specifically what you're looking at there, how many people die every year from heart attack and stroke.
And as you can see from about the 1970s onward, there was a good strong decline in cardiovascular deaths. And then you can see beginning in 2011, incidence of cardiovascular death begins to go back up. What happened in 2011? We all know the risk factors for cardiovascular death. It's high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol. Is that what happened? And common sense will tell you no. Plus, those types of cardiovascular risk factors take years to show their effects. So now, I challenge anybody to find another graph involving deaths that looks like this because this is a very specific type of graph. What you're looking at there is extinction of a subop. They're all dying. Subop means a group within a group. So those cardiovascular deaths that you're looking at there, that's not the American public at large. You're looking at the extinction of a subop.
Who was the group? It was the people who had been genetically damaged by the opioids. And so this is the backdrop for when we submit it to the CDC. And one of the jobs of the CDC is to look out for and identify and explain lines like the one on the graph in front of you. Okay?
That's what they get billions of dollars to do every year. What caused it? Where did it come from? What do we need to do?
Okay, that's their job. And so we went to them with exactly the information that they needed. We handed them what they needed on a platter. Look at that line in front of you. That's about 4 million people dead. What did they die from? They died from a cardiovascular death. Why did they die? That's a job of the CDC. Why did all of a sudden we have an epidemic of cardiovascular deaths.
And so we supplied the CDC with exactly what they should have been looking for and we put it directly in front of Dr. Charlotte Kent, editor-inchief of the MMWR, and said, "Please, we're begging you take a look at this." And she did take a look at it and she came back and basically said, "Pound sand." They didn't recognize the significance of what we put in front of them. And the same thing for the FDA. If you're going to blow off our explanation, that's fine. That's a scientific way. Challenge everything. But you have to challenge it with a theory of your own. They didn't respond to a theory of their own. They just threw our theory under the bus.
That's not the way science works. And we explained it with a lot of scientific evidence. And what did they do? Threw us under the bus. So, I wanted to spend today making sure that we spoke about the backdrop of what was going on when we presented to the CDC, the FDA. Thank you very much for your time and attendance.
