Mental Health Round Pleas, Miers’ ACL Call & Senior Coaches In Waiting | Midweek RubAdded:
On Friday night, the Bulldogs faced injury Armageddon where the cats fed Jeza and he finished with the Big 10.
The Pies were inspired again by that famous surname while Zack Butters shook the hand of every single umpire pregame.
The season is already a quarter up. The Bombers have had a twoe blow up and the Tribunal. Sorry, sorry, just got to shut my dog up there. since round five and cast our eye towards a massive Anzac Day. This is TripleM footies midweek rub with Anzac Day medalist Lee Joey Montan.
>> Very good Rabs here. Yes, big weekend of footy. Anzac Day always one of the special rounds on the calendar and can't wait.
>> And a man who dominated in his inaugural Anzac Day. I think it was game four for you Daisy. It came bounding up to me.
And the two king himself, Damen Barrett is here as well.
>> Love the reference to the fast. It was the AFL tribunal during the week which took about 10 days from the first hearing that anyway we've finished it now but >> seems like you're getting support now on the tri it doesn't work Joey who would have thought what's a better way going forward though not how do you simplify it because it is it's I remember when he sat here with Duck and every time that this came up he goes I guarantee you one thing fellas in 5 years time we'll still be talking about it and nothing has changed if anything it's gotten worse.
You want to get serious off the top?
>> Get rid of at least one of the tribunals because as I keep saying to Joey, >> the actual tribunal is the appeal off the match review office. So you don't need a second one after that just for as a starting point to the whole thing. And the other thing I do days just to be serious again is to to make the match review officer a full-time AFL employee, not to have it as a consultant as it is.
And that's not a knock on Michael Christian. He's not part of the official AFL football department staff. And I think that would be a starting point, but that's too serious.
>> Yeah. One day, one day we'll get there and we can run the AFL. You can take that update.
>> Okay. Give it a week or two.
>> I'll blow the arc up as well for their score reviews over point post.
>> Do that.
>> Do that.
>> That's a joke, too.
>> If you're not coming, >> blow the fixture up. What else can we blow up?
>> No. Well, the fixture from here on out, it's okay. Apart from the old double header on a Friday, which is still annoying the people. But >> don't forget there's other five or six weeks of buys though again coming up. We haven't got rid of them just yet.
>> No, we haven't. There's work to be done.
That's okay.
>> Let's keep it positive.
>> Good to see you. Good to see you talk in the in the first two minutes of a show.
>> I tuned in last night and I I wanted to see how Tommy Morris went on his first go at agenda set.
>> Very strong. Very strong.
>> And between he and Carol, they did not take breath for the first nine minutes and I didn't even know you were on till segment two.
>> No, no, you well you needed to watch from the start where I got introduced by the corn. But no, they were those two had plenty to get through. Obviously Tyson Stangle that was the big story and everything that's obviously happened in the week. So, a lot of newsy stuff. So, I sort of just park me uh me backside out of that until I've got a question that's worth asking.
>> And Tom Morris and Tom Morris doesn't take a breath. So, if you're doing a lot with Tom, you'll get less and less in cuz he loves it.
>> Still put the full full invoice though.
>> I did. Tell you what is impressive.
Tom's hair >> made a made a big recre.
No, I was talking to him about it and he's like, I love it. He went and sourced obviously to get it done and >> Turkey.
>> Uh I think it might have been Sri Lanka or somewhere he ended up in. Um but it's it's impressive. It's thick and it's his own hair cuz this stuff fascinates me, DMO.
>> So it's growing.
>> It's growing. Yeah. Cuz I was like, is it you know, we've seen the plugs and that sort of thing. It's his own hair regrowing.
>> How good's modern medicine? Incredible stuff.
>> Good to see.
>> Too late for me though, is it?
>> Well, potentially.
>> Yeah.
>> Aging gracefully.
>> You're in the gym. You're in the strong room. You're flying.
>> It wasn't too late for Hados. He's absolutely flying as well. Has he?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> That's why he was wearing the big silly hat to cover up the >> Oh, was it really? Caught up with this.
>> He's made a full recovery as well.
>> Oh, have a look at it. It's unbelievable.
>> Looks like he stole one of those headrests off a bus like Marcus. I look like Marcus Sto.
>> No, not quite.
>> Anyway, Anzac Day is coming up on the weekend.
>> It is.
>> How good is that going to be? Uh, you were an Anzac Day medalist, Joey. I was one of the few that have won an Anzac Day.
>> I didn't win one and I'm bloody stiff.
>> Um, yes. In New Zealand.
>> Did you hear my top five yesterday?
>> Cuz I got some feedback that it might have at one.
>> He got the four. Might have been a tough selfindulgence.
>> The fact that I had myself at five. How did you decide which one?
>> Uh, I thought the goal was more crucial in the context cuz it was almost the sealer whereas the mark happened in the first uh quarter or so.
>> Did you get rocker in that top five somewhere? uh for the very first just missed out with with nine in a draw.
>> That was unbelievable.
>> It was unbelievable.
>> Mark McGoff get in there for >> He didn't either. Anac Jared Blair did.
>> Yeah, Blair on it.
>> So, I pretty much just looked after my mates and pumped myself up. But it is it's a great week on the footy calendar.
Uh we got four >> four Anzac Day matches in 2026 >> cuz you played and we do talk about it over in >> twice in Oh, I think there were three games in New Zealand. I played in two of the three I think. Yeah. So, no. And they tried it. Didn't quite take off, >> but good idea.
>> Yeah, gave it a go. Yeah, >> was it?
>> I'm not sure it was.
>> Well, Joey got a medal out.
>> Yeah, that's right.
>> Depends who you're asking. We'll be at your prediction for those and you're also there as well for the Anzac Day matches and all the other ones as well.
But up next, Dma, it is time for your news and we'll start with some senior coaches who are in waiting. This is TripleM40's Midwick, Robert, Joey, Daisy, and Dammo. All thanks to Lickorland. Lickorland, legendary.
Choose to drink wise. Round seven predictions and fair income or fugazi all still to come. Dammo though it is time for some news and you think there are some assistant coaches in waiting to get the senior jobs.
>> I think on the back grabs you of Stephen King coming into the system after 15 years of um assistant coaching at good football clubs. It's a conversation that I think some clubs are having now. Then now again let's also be realistic about this. He's six matches into uh his first season. 17 matches remaining. Let's see what happens. But already and almost regardless of of what does happen on a win- loss perspective days from here, we can see the intent to change from day one with both culture offfield, but more importantly when it comes to the the onfield situation, there's a very different and distinctive game style that he's now bringing to the the um the Melbourne footy club and it's it's empowering to this point of the season.
So, there's a lot of other people who are similar to Stephen King in the AFL system who've now done some seriously hard yards as assistant coaches and there's going to be a trend that's already in play where you need to be at a either successful club or working beneath a successful coach. Now, that's relative. It's contextual, but it was pointed out to Daniel Gian Syracuse last year who was in the Melbourne process that his credentials would have been favored had he been at a footy club.
Now, it's a good conversation to have and it's one that he listened to because he then quit his role at the Essen Footy Club and went to Hawthorne to heed that advice. Now, it's an interesting scenario. There's a lot of good players um ex players now in that assistant coaching ranks and and Joel Cory and Cory Enright, just for instance, are two players who've got a similar CV when it comes to assistant coaching to Stephen King and who are regarded very very highly in the roles they've got. I think anytime you can take the IP of someone like a Jalong, I think we all look on and look at Jalong and go right, you get a lot right on field but also offfield.
So if you're to appoint someone who's been down there, they've lived it, they obviously know what the setup is and then bring your own ideas and ideology to how your game plan's going to look.
It's clear that that is a massive leg up and this could be the new if you worked under Clark through your came and this might be the new proving ground down at Jalong.
>> Might be and Melbourne play a lot like Jalong. Very similar sort of style.
Yeah, they do. Very similar style of footy. So that means someone like a James Kelly who's working at Jalong now under um under Chris Scott might be someone who's very impressive, very smart footy person, really popular, could be a chance. I think someone like Matthew Boyd who's been at Freeman now at Collingwood under Craig McCrae highly recommend as So there are there are lots of names and they don't always have to be the big names that are out there.
Andrew Mcwter almost came a bit out of nowhere to be coaching West Coast and I think doing a really good job in a tough situation. So there are plenty of good assistant coaches out there and I'm sure they won't have to wait too long.
>> It's unfortunate though days that the the arguably the number one criteria is to be in the right place at the right time and you can't control that and and the right place at the right time in this context is a team that has had a form of success.
>> Yes, that does become a slight predicament I guess. Um, and those jobs obviously are going to become more sought after. And even to the point that Jalong have gone to Nathan Buckley who is wanting to be a coach, they've gone and sourced him rather than uh others applying for it.
>> Well, in a way, it's another form of inequality when you talk about the draft where the clubs that are down the bottom aren't attracting the best assistant coaches because the best assistant coaches want to go to the top clubs to get a senior job. So, it's uh it's funny how it all plays out.
>> It is, isn't it? Yeah. Gran M. We learned over the weekend through Mitch Clear's reporting that there was a serious ACL or potentially serious ACL diagnosis on on his problems injury-wise this year. He wants to, I believe, persevere through potentially seeing how it could work without having the dramatic reconstructive surgery and the club is having conversations of this nature. It's a it's unusual, isn't it, to to have this play out this way.
>> So, is it partial? It would have to be a partial turn, wouldn't it? which I think players I heard Tony Modra throughout gather around say he played I think a whole year with a partial or a couple of seasons with a partial ACL so you can g it's going to be difficult though for a guy like him who relies on his agility Daisy and zipping in and out of traffic and but I suppose if he strengthens the knee around the area give it a go what's the worst case that can happen it actually ruptures and you need the surgery anyway so that's maybe his way of thinking and players are always trying to find a way to play if they can >> I assume though regardless this doesn't just fix itself like in excuse in terms of if he gets through this season and he's able to, >> it'll always be partially >> torn. At what point it doesn't repair itself? I don't think so.
>> Yeah. At what point then do you have to have surgery? So, do you bite the bullet and go at some point you're going to have to take an extended period off or is he going to roll the dice for the rest of his career given the fact that he's got plenty of footy ahead of him.
>> They're interesting conversations and you can see both sides of them quite clearly. uh guy turns 36 on Saturday by the name of Taylor Walker and coming off one of these great games of an already I say great career. It's quite extraordinary what he's doing because he was um he was down on form at quarter time of that most recent game against Sincer where Cal Wilki was best on ground to that point and then here we are three quarters later five goals and leading that football club in a way that it needed to be led in the light of Jordan Dawson's absence for the family reasons and the the fact that he was a former captain himself and I thought he was supreme in this game and it just reminds I think the entire competition just disregard the birth certificate when it comes to certain people and the impact they have at certain footy clubs.
>> 100%. He was brilliant. 10 coaches votes, led from the front. He's been playing great footy for the last two and a half, three seasons. Um, and he's so crucial to their team. So, we've spoken a lot, Daisy, about sticking with the veterans and what they can do. They might not be able to do it week after week. You know, the Patty Dangerfields and Pendles aren't going to be best on ground every week, >> but what you still never lose is you have that game in you like Dangerfield in the prelim, uh, Taylor Walk on the weekend. You never know when it's going to be needed, but they'll still those champions will always have that game in them, just not as often as they used to.
and still the ability to be an onfield coach or leader. So, quarter of time, yes, Texas was clearly our play, but he's still setting up the rest of that forward line because he's the wise and mature head. And I love the fact that if you're the one of the best players in your side, like just don't worry about talent. Uh don't worry about your birth certificate, just pick the best because otherwise you sort of select integrity.
I know some of the clubs down the lower part of the ladder. Oh, we've got to get games into the kids. I don't think gifting games to people is the way to go because it just devalues I think what and how hard it is to play AFL and senior football. It should be merit on your merit and if you're good enough you get picked regardless.
>> That's what Jalong do they really Jong just give kids game. They play two sometimes three seasons in the VFL like an Ollie Dempsey did. Shannon Neil played a lot. You know they play some VFL footy. J Clark stilling away >> top 10 you know top 10 pick. So it's a really good point that you earn and then when you're in you're in and you're ready to go >> and Hawthorne's similar to that too.
They played Will McCabe obviously on the weekend but he'd been in the system three years and and they've had very few debut times but that's just the the Hawthorne way under Sam Mitchell but the opportunity is going to present itself and and as it did for for Wilmer McCabe on the weekend he took it with his late goal too. Um just thought I'd just throw up the conversation now Ramsey about Elijah Holland just from a reflective perspective now that six days after the Thursday night game in which all the >> the um the focus was on him for all the wrong reasons and also the Cton football club. So as we know what happened during the condition and this the disturbing vision that it did emerge and the fact that TripleM's coverage of the game itself picked this issue up very very early and broadcast it to a point as it unfolded to here we are Wednesday morning we time code this 10:14 talking on the midweek rub the perspective on it has changed hasn't it D and and the narrative even media and publicly has I I feel dramatically changed and it's just what happens in football you do have a different context 6 days later the support now is overwhelming ing for Elijah Holland.
>> Yeah, the lens has probably shifted to who is at fault outside of Elijah, if anyone at the minute. But I think we all agree that we just want the best for the kid, for him to get back to a place where he's in in good mental shape and can go about um his business because it was, you know, it was confronting. If anything, it was sort of sad watching on with how you can relate. said, "Geez, if that's the best way you think you have to present with how and everything that's going on internally, uh you feel for the kid." And obviously the family have reached out and said their support and how much they've appreciated from everyone. And I love the fact that Ollie referenced the Carlton football club for their support because if anyone was to sit here and go Carlton is to blame for this or Carlton is to blame for that. If you were that I ra as a brother that would be leading the charge. I think his support and thanking the Carlton Football Club probably diffuses it just a little bit. And Joey, we still can't lose sight of the fact that we do need answers to a lot of questions on this and and that is part of this um rehashing of it and debriefing on it because the the game cannot afford another moment like this. And >> there will need to be some very seriously worded statements. I feel when the AFL comes down with its public finding and I say public because there'll be they'll be privy to parts of information that that don't need to be made public and I hope aren't made public but equally there needs to be a presentation from the game itself as to what happens next time in those moments.
>> Yeah, spot on. I think the game needs to know how it happened, why it happened more so so that everyone can improve and it doesn't happen again. That's the key element that now uh the situation has happened unfortunately what we can do about it in the future is the most important. So, um, yeah, we've evolved to the human side of it now, which is great. And I think the next evolution days, and you just touched on it, was a lot of, um, blame has turned to cart and absolutely, they didn't get that day right, but I think it should be recognized they have put a lot of effort and work into Elijah Holland over the last 12 18 months with with the help they gave him last year, the tough love about saying you're you're off the list, but then giving him an opportunity. Um, I know Michael Voss has done a lot of work with him. So, it's unfortunate that Carlton didn't get the night ride and and that'll all, you know, play out with the investigation, but should be remembered that as you touch on, they have put a lot of work into him to help him. The conversations that have started on the back of this though, Bailey Smith raising it on Friday Night Football, Jack Ginovan again throwing his support behind something definitive in terms of a mental health round, not just at AFL level, but also country football community because there is a a real epidemic of mental health issues across the broader range of BS 16 to 44 um and women as well. We're not disregarding that at all. So there's an opportunity here for the AFL PA, the AFL players uh across both codes to get behind something and really push because obviously the AFL will be cautious and they think they've already got around within Spuds game to bring some light to it, but I think it clearly shows that not enough is being done. Um we talk about the buyers and the fact that there's a rolling 3-week buyers. If you want to be serious about mental health and giving the industry a chance to refresh, recoup, and come into the second half of the year, why not shut it down for a weekend from Thursday to Monday, have a seasonwide buy. You can focus on your community footies a bit like big freeze. You can have fundraisers to go and raise some money put forward that even, you know, as part of what you play as a player registration in your local community.
That goes to then uh having some psych availability, a couple of free sessions.
So if you are struggling at the local leagues, things like this and >> as part of that, if you are tuning into M like we do with the no talk day, if you want to go to any of your Fox or your sevens, there's interviews played of people who have spoken out about it from struggles from things that have gone on in the past. So we actually draw real attention to this, albeit whilst the whole industry takes a breath, goes and actually works and has some mental refreshment if you will, so that ongoing uh we're all in a better spot. Uh just an idea but I think it's one that hopefully we can continue to push because something needs to be done rather than just lip service.
>> Well said D. This is TripleM footies midweek Rob with Joey Daisy and Damo.
Got your round seven predictions still to come. This is all thanks to Lickorland and Damo. Another legendary week of footy is on the way. It is Rebsy and the legends at Lickorland have been helping other legendary Aussies raise a glass for more than 50 years filling fridges for many a watch party and many an armchair warrior.
>> Yep. So, you know, whenever your team's running out onto the field, Lickorland's running too with epic value and legendary drinks on your liquor land.
Legendary. Why are you whispering? I still don't know, but that's what they want.
>> Fair enough.
>> Yep.
>> Choose to drink wise.
>> Now on the midweek rub, it's >> or bit of a serious one to start with you, Damo. The Tom Edwards Arc controversy only proves that there should be independent doctors at every game >> for Gazi because they effectively are independent doctors in terms of what the Ark had determined in that mode. It got messy. There's a concession that they shouldn't have got involved given the SNS had already appropriately and properly dealt with the Tom Edwards head hit.
So no, I don't think we need another layer. We've got the arc to do that role now. and and it it got clumsy and clunky, but it was there for that reason.
>> With all these sorts of things, is there going to be less of an appetite for doctors to want to go to Clubland >> because >> you say that, but they there's always a lot of doctors that do want to work for Clubland. But I I hear what you're saying. Yeah. The scrutiny on them. And look, there's even been without naming names, there are some of these actions that are in play as we speak that have specifically named Medicos within the claims.
>> Yep. Daisy, a 63 minute postponement due to lightning is too long and unfair on players to come back out and play again.
Fair income. Um I'm not sure what the actual >> arrangement is to call it off, but it couldn't be much further than an hour.
You wouldn't have thought, but I understand why you do it. Obviously, player safety and fan safety is at the paramount of it all, but 63 minutes risk to injury. Uh but also then I guess would you rather do it then and then have to rather than re schedule it and you get four points as opposed to going a half half. Whatever it is, it's a mess. But hopefully these things only happen much longer than that, but that's about >> uh Joey, the AFL need to start finding players for staging dangerous tackles.
>> Uh don't they already do that?
>> Yeah, >> I think they should be. I don't know if they are. And this all comes to our points about the all the systems at the moment that aren't as perfect as they can be. So, uh that is fair income, but maybe they're just not doing it. Damo Cooper Trenbath should be the rising star favorite.
>> I feel that's fair. Dinkham, Rabbi, there's obviously a long runway remaining. There's 17 matches still to play, but he's come from effectively nowhere. Hadn't played footy until the last three matches of last year and then kicked three goals in each of those three. Started this year with another three. And on top of kicking goals, he's now taking hangers every single week. I love the I love the story. I love how he's presented himself for his first full season of AFL. signed a big three-year contract too after 10 games of good on him. Yeah, absolutely. That's a great story, >> Daisy. No one can put a team on their back like Nick Dos.
>> Uh oh. Well, from what we saw on Thursday night, that is fair income.
That was one of the most incredible fourth quarter performances you're ever likely to see and even to the point of the first four minutes regardless of what was happening. Um, yeah, he was incredible. And just goes to show whenever there's questions about who is the best player in the comp or where that's going to land, when you can do that and genuinely change the game from your own performance and then lift your side to victory as well, I think it speaks for itself.
>> Damo, goal kicking is still the most undervalued skill in the game. Giants had more shots at goal against the Swans on the weekend.
>> That's fim. If it's not undervalued, it's just underpracticed and I think maybe underappreciated in terms of what it actually does to the the tone of a game. You can have a a bad fiveminute patch and lose the game on the back of uh the hard work of people up the field not having their hard work converted onto the the scoreboard like it used to be done on a very regular basis in the good old days of the 80s and 90s. It was less an issue back then.
>> Daisy, this man actually did debut on Anzac Day. I know them made that mistake about you yesterday. Mason Cox should keep his spot this week even if Shawn Darcy is fit to come back.
>> I think that's fair income. Yeah, what Mason is doing and just the difference he provides. So, I know that they've got options with Sha Darcy, but um yeah, probably for flexibility and athletic profile to some extent. I think that Mason should be keeping his spot and did enough.
>> You heard anything Joey? You can just let us know. We won't tell anyone.
>> I don't think Shawn Darcy is playing.
>> I think that's been reported. That's not my intel. I think it's been reported. It looks like a calf injury. So, Mason Cox should get another chance.
>> All right. Uh Damo, we've heard the fixture might be pushed back next year.
A grand final rematch is the best way to start the season.
>> Fazi Rabzi, I can see why you may throw that up, but there are certain matchups that just wouldn't work as a season opening contest. And and without wanting to talk down um a certain club, but for an example, GWS, which had a great run in 2019, to replay that match or to to start the season with the matchup of of that, would not have mass appeal.
>> Did we not do that with the Western Bulldogs in Melbourne on a Wednesday night a couple of years ago after the co fixture? Yeah.
>> Went to the MCG and there was about 40,000 and it didn't exactly shoot the lights out.
>> I think you're right. We did. Yes.
>> There you go, Joey. the inadvertent slide down the ladder due to injuries for the Bulldogs could have a benefit of better draft picks to use for Zack Butters.
>> Well, that statement is fair income. I don't think that's their preference cuz I think the picks at the end of the day will still be they'll they'll figure it out. If he wants to go to the Bulldogs, the Bulldogs will get him. That'll just happen. It's more about who he nominates. I think the dogs should still be trying to aim for top four, but they've got their work cut out for them very, very hard now. Daisy, the Gingin Eagles center half back should nominate for the mid-season draft after keeping Buddy Franklin's only one goal in his return for the Da Football Club on the weekend.
>> That's fair Dinkham because it wasn't if Buddy presented in shape.
>> He was arguably in career best, wasn't he? He looked good. Um yeah, so to only have a couple of snags. That's well done. I did see one snag.
>> One snag. I did see there was four or five BS on him though, so I'm not sure if five people can nominate for one spot, but it was a good tactic. But well done for Bud for giving back as well.
We've got a few oracles at TripleM, Joe Montana, but right now we got a new one.
Sarah Hosking is the Oracle.
>> Curtis is going to kick six today. I reckon he I'm just watching some of the Harvey Norman replay on that. I I don't see who the right matchup is for him today because they are under man.
>> Fireball inside 50 top of the square.
>> He's going to get his sixes here.
>> This is a six.
>> Oscar, well done.
>> 46. Well done, Paulie Curtis.
>> He's already kicked it. Just mark it.
Just mark it. If you've got your footy record, get out the mark.
>> I went early on you, Oscar. I went on I went early on you saying that he wasn't going to kick six.
>> Oscar said before the game you'll kick six. And here we go.
>> So, on the siren here, Pauly Curtis sends it on its way.
>> It's number six.
>> Genius. Goodness. Well done. Stevie J be jealous cuz he thinks he's the oracle.
But Sarah, well done. That was a great call.
>> Speaking of Stevie Jay, Dano, this isn't the worst idea from our man Stevie J.
>> Complete. Look at this angle. The ball crosses above the behind line.
>> And you know that is absolute [ __ ] You cannot tell. That is just an absolute nons. I don't care which way the decision goes and what it means. I don't even know what it means, but it's just a nonsense decision based on the replays we saw, which are the replays he saw.
>> Outside, we're just not there with this review.
>> They need a They need a laser or something like maybe sitting on top of the post goes up.
>> The laser.
>> Yeah, >> we should have a laser on top of the goalposts.
>> No, I I love Stevie, but I'm not going the laser path. So, for Gazi, we just don't need to review those moments, I think, is is the solution to that one.
>> Laser beam. Uh, this one's a bit long, but I'm going to play it for you. This is also to you, Domo. Chew man needs to be put on a post gather round performance review.
>> The call as a tour, how long is it since he has actually dawned the jumper?
>> Any idea? This is his second game. He played last week.
>> Yeah, but prior to that, how long was he out?
>> He missed a hell of a lot of footy last year, Pet. I'll come back to you.
>> Good start for him. Grounds in perfect condition. Been no footy here for how long, Ash?
>> How many days? since they played a game here. Ash, >> that's a very good question. I'll go for the answers for anything tonight. Ash, >> tune in. Was the last time a cell played here at GMHBA?
>> Yes.
A deflection step for Gazi.
>> That's for Gazi. Because BT and you know, I feel bad in a disgrace. Don't try and deliberately trip him up.
>> I know. I feel bad that I just jumped on. You just pulled on.
>> That's what I mean. I feel bad that I pulled on and jumped on what BT does. He just tries to [ __ ] st you.
>> I love the way you can almost um hear the brain clogging over when he's Oh, what do I do here? And he he buys time.
I love how he buys time for red Z lending.
>> BT is the best at asking questions he knows he can't answer.
>> Pro sometimes when he go, "How many times I've been inside 50 this corner?"
And he doesn't know. He goes, "Six." He just makes the number up. Uh, finally finishing with you Daisy Thomas. Essen versus Collingwood on Anzac Day. Only the best players rise in that game. Just a high tumble punt. Joe Watson in good position. Took a terrific mark and THEN HE WENT DANGEROUS. THOMAS >> with a big climb on Anzac.
>> How about that?
>> Good race. Now Thomas is going to win it.
>> Solomon. Beautiful pick up from Thomas.
And around he goes. Right foot shot.
Have a LISTEN TO THIS.
>> THE PIES FANS GO ABSOLUTELY NUTS.
>> Fair in. You got to be bloody good to produce some highlights on Anzac Day and we'll see some more of them this weekend, no doubt. But that was some good stuff.
>> Still good to hear.
>> Thanks, Job. Joe Watson with an inside 45. It was like >> Who were you chas who did you beat in the foot race of the ball? Solomon.
>> Yeah. One oneanded pick up.
He had a 40 m head start and it was a 30 m chase.
>> We'll get your tips for that Essin versus Colling game and all the rest of the round seven games next on TripleMy's Midway Grub. Joey, Daisy, and Dammo. All thanks to Liquor Land. Joey, you said Toby Green gets a fine.
>> Yeah, he stayed out of trouble.
>> Very well behaved.
>> Lightning should have gone Zack Butters should I think that's a big call.
>> Lightning saved him.
>> He had too much time to regroup.
>> He did some meditation.
>> Damo is on fire this year. You said Jalong a big premiership possibility.
Injuries did help them to the opposition.
>> They did. Yeah. just thought they'd handle the Bulldogs regardless, but they then did a number on them with those injuries.
>> And Daisy, you said easy week of tipping. You tipped eight of nine and missed that last one by I think a point.
>> Yes. Uh yeah, it was a lot closer in a fair few of those games than I thought starting on Thursday, but uh no, it was close, but no cigar. So, >> let's have a look at these games kicking off tomorrow night under the lid at Marvel Stadium. Joey, it's the Bulldogs versus the Sydney Swans. Yeah, still waiting to hear how many dogs are out as we time code this one at 10:30 on the Wednesday morning, but unfortunately it's going to be very very difficult for them to win. I think Sydney, who are flying at the moment, they're playing the best footy in the competition right now. I think they win.
>> Two deputants for the Swans as well.
Edwards and Cody.
>> Yeah, Billy Cudy, good story. Played Fell then Sanford guy that's never given up on his dream. Could be the next Shauny Manner, that type of player.
>> Okay, well pay attention there. Uh there's no reason to tip against the Swans at any stage yet. So Swans for me.
>> I don't know why. I've got a feeling that the Bulldogs will be able to be really competitive and more so than they were against the cats. Uh the cat that ground just for whatever reason the Bulldogs weren't willing to take the kicks when they were on and then paused a half a second. The cats got turnover.
They should be better, but I think the Swans in a closer one than many will be tipping. Dammer, for all the smack that we do talk about the AFL, the Anzac Eve game is something they have done right.
That is Richmond versus Melbourne on Friday night.
>> Yeah. And I just now now hope that Richmond can go out and play a a presentable game of football, which they have not really been able to do this year. Save maybe for the game against Carlton where they challenged and probably should have won. The other four the five games either side of that have been dreadful and I just hope they can present in a way that doesn't have them embarrassed again. But Melbourne to win easily. Yeah, I've had the pen and paper out doing some numbers on Richmond.
Their last 17 games, they've kicked 10 goals or more only three times. And in that same period, they've kicked seven goals or less eight times. The D's have already kicked 100 plus four times this year. They only did that on five occasions last year. So, their offense is humming. It's going to be a tough ass for the Tigs. I hope they rock up, but I cannot tip them. The D's for me.
>> Same as everyone. Just want the Tigers to be competitive to make it a good contest. Uh the first of the four ANZAC day games kicks off down in Lawncest Daisy. Big game, Hawthorne versus Gold Coast.
>> Big game for the Gold Coast Suns because they have been poor. They obviously fall in on the weekend, the couple of weeks before that losses unexpectedly. Uh the Melbourne one more so.
>> I'm going to be bold and tip them in an upset. I assume that would be one of those. The Hawks are going along nicely, but the Gold Coast Suns need to find something from team defense point of view. Um why not down there in Utah and not sure of the conditions obviously but could play into their hands.
>> No Anderson playing is a big one if he does play. They might be too much to handle for Hawthorne in the midfield.
Petra back to their best. Um I was leaning towards tipping an upset as well but the Hawks don't lose Danny Tazzy.
>> Uh I'll stay with Hawthorne but I think Gold Coast can win. Yep.
>> I'm going with the Hawks. I uh Sam Mitchell wasn't happy with how they managed to hold on last week against Port. But I don't and I feel that Ramsey will just um steal them for this particular game. So Hawks >> Essenden versus Colling with Joey Montana.
>> Yes, looking forward to this one. Uh this is my big call. I think there will be a new hero emerge out of Essen and one of those 12 kids that have played 33 games or less. One of them will win more than half their side.
>> The 12 kids, one of the a Okay. A player that has played less than 35 games of AFL football.
>> Give me a name. will win the Anzac Day medal.
>> You got 12 options on this.
>> A player, a player that's what played less than 35 games to win the Anzac Day medal for Essendon. Is that not a big call?
>> It's a medium.
>> I thought that was a good one.
>> Small call. Montana ring.
>> No, I like it. We'll accept it. Okay.
>> Okay. I'll call it going to be a draw then. A draw.
>> That's a bigger call. I'll give him that one as a call. We'll give you both those calls and we'll come back next week. Was it a draw >> recently? 2025. Is that a draw?
>> I think there was a draw pretty pretty recently, actually.
>> We'll get the boys.
>> One of us in the room should remember it.
>> I'm pretty sure it was. It was 1995 and then 20 years post it ended in the way it started, I believe, but anyway.
>> Okay.
>> Um, that's sitting in my head maybe wrong.
>> Calling >> 2024 it was.
>> There you go. Draw.
>> Very, very good.
>> Good one, D.
>> Collingwood for me. Um I think and I told you this yesterday on the rush hour razi the bombers are obviously they're scoring and that obviously gives you a chance in any game against the pies who >> have struggled to score the last 10 quarters the bombers have played they've kicked 42 goals in that same period the pies have only scored 23 >> so that is going to be a reason that they can win the game but I just think the pies will be able to strangle the life out of them and frustrate them into a lower scoring affair but the fact that you can kick goals gives you a chance the pies in a close It sounds like an intriguing matchup, doesn't it?
>> It does. 40 to 42.
>> Well, hopefully that isn't the case.
Hopefully the lack of defense that we've seen from the Bombers can be penetrated by the PS and we at least get both sides kicking more than 80 points.
>> Uh the power versus Jalong Adelaide Oval Damo to be fair, Port Adelaide the last two or three weeks have been pretty good.
>> They have and they're in their good players are in good form in terms of Butters and Jason Horn Francis. I just know Chris Scott they will have a plan for tag them will go straight to butter and they can't win.
>> That that's exactly what will happen and Jalong will win.
>> Yep.
>> Good call.
>> Yeah. Well, why don't more teams?
>> It's a good question. Jalong good enough for Jalong.
>> He sat there on Sunday going if you take Pickicket out of this Melbourne side, you take his influence down to half, they're not winning a chance.
>> It's easy to say. It's harder to do.
>> Yeah.
>> And not everyone's got an ocean mullen.
>> Yes.
>> True.
>> Or a Marco Connor.
>> And a Marco Connor probably go if he plays goes to Francis. Yeah. Because he can play in defense. So perfect. Yep.
>> Uh, Freeman versus Carlton Daisy Thomas.
>> Freeman should be winning this one. And I think either this week or next week, the Blues might cop a little flogging.
They've been better, >> but Jess, this stuff just takes a toll whether you like it or not. This becomes big on everyone. So, Freemantle for me.
>> Tough week for Carton, isn't it?
Hopefully, they galvanize when they get on a plane together, which sometimes can happen as a group, but Freeman playing too good a footy should take care of business.
>> They just don't have everything right.
They've even learned from the opening game loss to Jalong to rectify some issues that were discovered in that comeback by the Cats and they're not going to lose to Cton.
>> Your former side Joey St. Kilder Ross has been interesting the last few days.
They take on West Coast at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
>> Uh hopefully he's a bit more jovial in the postmatch postmatch press conference after they beat the West Coast Eagles.
So hopefully we see the Cuddly Ross after the game.
>> No, we don't like Cuddly Ross.
>> That's good from Well, why not though?
Ask some questions. have a bit of fun.
>> Yeah, I thought he was a bit out of order there just in a in a in a small way, but um I'd rather angry aggressive Ross than cuddly Ross so secure easily.
>> Yeah, Saints for me with no confidence.
But Saints, >> no confidence.
>> Oh yeah, I don't know.
>> Your side, >> it just doesn't film me full of confidence. Your side win.
>> They've had to they obviously got um had to fight it out to the death the other night in >> 100 points in Adelaide.
>> Yeah.
No, it's not my big call.
>> You sort of secured a mafia here.
>> Yeah, I know. Yeah, I'm not sure why.
Where's Nala? Damo, this is a massive game. Brisbane versus Adelide. The gabber.
>> It is. I can make a case for Adelaide, but I'm not going to tip them. So, the Lions, I just think Chris Fagan will just have spent the week just trying to sharpen up some processes that have just fallen away a little bit in recent times. Um, Lions, >> this is my big call. I think Adelaide will get it done at the gaba >> away from home. It would be a bloody good win. Um Brisbane, yes, still flag favorites, I think, but that's like long-term pitcher. Not playing their best footie at the moment. Adelaide for me.
>> Uh Brisbane will bounce back. Rarely lose two in a row. Fagan, I think their pressure was really poor, so I think they tighten that up and they will beat the Crows at home.
>> Excited for this last game because Dammo's still got his big call in his back pocket. Daisy, GWS versus North Melbourne. I'm starting to believe, Don.
I'm starting to believe that this isn't just a >> 11's real.
>> 11 is real. Two men getting a sleeve is real. You getting a [ __ ] stamp is real.
>> I think we agreed to that, didn't we?
That's what you said at gather round on that Friday night after gather. Well, I've got it in the phone.
>> North Melbourne.
>> Are you really?
>> Am I >> good?
>> No, I'm going with the Giants. A Joey.
>> No, I'm going with the Giants. I think they get four or five big.
>> They got They are coming in.
>> Yeah. Cadman Hogan, Brett Daniels.
There'll be a few others. They'll be they'll be back.
>> If they have more than three ins, I'm tipping the Giants if it stays as is North Melbourne.
>> Okay. And they played well against Sydney. You mentioned the accuracy before. They really should have got close against the Swans, which is great if I think Giants win.
>> You're right, Ramsey. I've left my big call for this one. North Melbourne will throw out that bookmaker chart on this game and win to go five and two. Doom.
>> Love this from Daddy's massive.
>> Look at the smiles.
There's a time a >> There's a time a club has to stand up.
This is that match. Forget the 4-2 at the moment. Yes. Well done. They had to be 4-2. This is the game we're going to determine.
>> So, you're setting them up if they fail.
>> No, I'm not. No, I just they're ready.
They're ready for this game and they get a team that is out of form.
>> Good.
>> Not only are they winning, they're winning well. Dam. You have to admit that.
>> I love what Clark did last week, too.
putting Zera back just to try something and got him into the game. McCertie was forward. I I love that. That's old school, old school coaching, old school North Melbourne potentially. Let's see what happens.
>> Well, that game is in Monica to finish round seven. You can catch every game of round seven on TripleM and the listener app. Starting tomorrow night with the Thursday rub ahead of the Bulldogs versus Sydney, Marvel Stadium, Nath Brown, Kate McCarthy, Jay-Z Clark, and Scott Pendlebury. Scottend. Yes. On the pregame and the entire game. I need to ring him and say bring some sizzle >> live in this port, you know.
>> Did you go into a broadcast somewhere recently and told him to give something?
>> Did you do that?
>> No, we went and got him for an update on uh when he bumped or braced. He came and provided some give us something. Give us something. Yeah. No, he was good that day.
>> He will be very, very good tomorrow night. So you can hear that on the listener app and right here on TripleM.
