4.7 Test: Tech Preview Transport system, get used to ...

[00:00:00]Hello everyone. The tech preview of the shuttle transport system is now on wave one, so I took a look. This is the current version 1.16.5.0.3.1.7.

[00:00:12]When this tech preview was in the hands of Evo cat e, I read some strange things. For example, elevators are now just teleporting, so I wanted to check it out. I spawned my Idris and I wanted to go to the lobby. Let's see how this went.

[00:02:28]I woke up in the clinic. Now I'm back at something quite interesting.

[00:03:07]Look at this, O'Neill. So 18 hangers to lobby elevator still don't work. So it was not me. This is a general problem.

[00:03:16]So I suicided to the clinic. I'm back in the spaceport and now none of those elevators work.

[00:03:29]And I'm not the only one. Here are just two messages I got in like 10 seconds.

[00:03:44]And this is a big rework. It's a big transport rework.

[00:03:53]And you cannot get from our hangers to the lobby unless we suicide into the clinic.

[00:04:05]Menu lock if you want to go back into a hanger. Yeah.

[00:04:11]Fantastic. I guess I don't need to test this anymore today.

[00:04:17]Of course, this is a tech preview. No one expects perfection from a tech preview. However, this was already in the hands of Evo cat e. I recorded this yesterday, so I still no new patch. If I would hazard a guess, let's say if we assume the new transport system works perfectly without any bugs, the new transport system still has to deal with CIG servers that are way overworked, especially since 3.18 and January 2025 when we get static server meshing with a much higher player cap. And in 4.5 we got engineering and now CIG servers that are way past capacity have to keep track, have to store, and have to distribute even more data. Again, I guess, but I think CIG has to fix the core issue of this game, servers that cannot deal with all the data. We have massive interaction lists. We have massive do things, even do things our players and NPCs at walking speeds.

As long as the core issue that CIG servers are massively overloaded is not fixed, I don't think it makes any sense to have a transport system rework on top of this.
