Mortius offers a sharp analysis of how Adora’s internal conflict with her past captor drives the narrative beyond simple heroism. It is a thoughtful look at how emotional stakes, rather than just plot points, define the complexity of modern character development.

BEST SEASON ALREADY!! | The Price of Power | She-Ra Princesses of Power 3x1 | Reaction/AnalysisAdded:
Hey, what me?
>> Hey, what?
>> I succeeded once before.
>> Hey, what?
Hello, gals, bloss, and all of folks. My name is Morius, and welcome to the first episode of season 3 of Shirro and the Princesses of Power. Today we have season 3, episode 1, The Price of Power.
Now, a lot of people told me that season 2 is one of their least favorites, which like I get there was a lot of filler in it, but there was also a lot of really, really good buildup present in it. And so if season two is like generally considered the weakest, that's a good sign for moving forward in this show. I'm really really intrigued to see what we're going to get moving forward, how all of these things are going to build. We've got obviously Horde and Entra working together.
Shadoww Weaver escaped. Catra is like on the ropes with Shadow or no no no with uh Hordak. And then on the other side of things, we've got that whole episode with Bose's dads and the way they were able to help figure out some things about the signal. The fact that it was like encoded, needed to be decrypted, right? Or something like that. I don't remember the exact details. I just know that it started slow, had a couple little fillers there, but really just grew and grew and grew and grew and grew. And so, if that realistically was just the first half of this season 2, three, I am pumped to see where we go from here. So, I just want to say thank you everyone who is supporting this series so far. Like I mentioned at the start of season 2, this is my most underperforming series. But I also noticed so many people in the comments of my season 2 episode 1 intentionally being like, I don't normally comment, but I want to help with the algorithm.
Like I know it's such a cliche YouTuber thing to be like, make sure you're liking, subscribing, leaving comments, but like on a series this underperforming, it really does make an algorithmic difference. So, if you don't mind, please, if you enjoy this video, make sure make sure you like the video, cuz that's a big one. And then leave any comment.
You can tell me who your favorite character is. You can tell me what your favorite color is. You can tell me Ooh, here's a good comment bait. Actually, no. I'm gonna save it for episode two because I already just did two interesting comment things.
Oh, that was that was a very word vomit intro, but I appreciate you all for being here. I'm excited to see where we go. Please engage as much as you can since this is an underperforming series that I do really want to see to the end.
And without any further ado, let's see season 2, episode 1, The Price of Power.
I just said season 2. I meant season 3.
I'm doing great.
>> [snorts] >> Is that real?
There's no Adora.
Is it? Hold. Hold. I This can't actually be happening, right?
Hold on.
What an insane start.
Shadow Weaver went to Adora directly.
How'd she get past like Don't THEY HAVE DON'T THEY HAVE DEFENSES? DON'T THEY HAVE like guards? I guess she could probably just like whoop. But then why didn't she do that when she was the bad guy? Regardless, what?
Don't tell me we're already good.
>> What an absolutely insane start.
We're right beside you, ready to fight.
Fight fight.
We must be strong and we must be brave.
>> We are the fire every bit of strength that we have never let it go.
>> We must be strong.
>> No one sleeps until we figure out how Shadow Weaver got into the castle.
>> Okay.
Hey, at least they're asking the same questions as me. Like there should be things in place to prevent this. What happened?
>> Why are we stopping here? This is where we're holding the prisoner.
>> This is your prison. It's the spare room, but it is more than adequate as a holding cell.
>> Sure.
>> We removed the cushions. Most of the cushions.
>> This is the prison. Yes, it's the prison. Your majesty. I know. Shadow Weaver.
>> It's really funny. JUST LIKE, YES, IT'S THE PRISON. WE'RE THE WE'RE THE NICE PRINCESSES. WE DON'T HAVE A SCARY PRISON.
The guest room has a lock on it. Leave me alone. And >> I'm the only one who can shadow Weaver is dangerous. I will not let that woman near you. Near any of you. You are to stay away from this room. That is final.
>> Fair.
>> I need to get in there. Shadow Weaver could have gone anywhere, but she came here. I need to know why. If >> the queen would just listen to me.
Adora, maybe this is for the best.
>> Shadow, it's exactly what I was about to say. Yes. Like, >> I can absolutely see both arguments.
Like, she came to me. She might tell me why, but also Nador is going to be the most manipulatable by Shadoww Weaver.
So, like, it is a double-edged sword, but like I also want answers.
[yawns] >> Adora, >> fine. I guess we should all just head back to bed. Let the obviously unqualified Bright Moon guards handle this.
>> Well, that's just rude.
>> They're doing their best.
>> You're going to try to sneak in, AREN'T YOU?
>> WHAT? OW. [laughter] >> NO. [laughter] >> WELL, I GUESS TECHNICALLY DORA WAS TELLING the truth about not planning to sneak in cuz I was definitely NOT SNEAKING. I LOVE just runs and just tackled teleport is really funny to me for some reason.
>> No.
Where? Where am I?
>> You're in the Bright Moon prison.
[snorts] >> This is a prison.
>> Stop judging her prison.
>> Why does everyone keep Of course this is a prison.
>> You must be Glimmer's mother.
>> Dead. You can >> tell by the way your voice grows shrill when you scream.
Shadoww Weaver, you are not going to be winning any points right now. Girly, [snorts] you cannot remind the mother and queen of the time you kidnapped her daughter and literally tortured her.
>> You must be Glimmer's mother.
>> That seems like a bad plan.
>> Voice grows shrill when you scream.
>> You will answer for the crimes you committed during your time as my brother's teacher.
>> Oh, yes.
Sweet talented Micah.
>> You will not speak his name.
>> I'm not the one who got him killed.
Oh, right.
Micah would be so the one she trained is king. Therefore, Castispella's brother.
Therefore, because Castella is aunt, therefore Okay. I Mhm.
Okay, I see. I'm understanding.
>> Tell us why you're here.
>> Well, she seems like she's dying.
>> I saw information to defeat the >> You're so bitter you'll defect.
>> I will only speak to Adora. Ooh.
[crying] Well, and in Shadow Weaver's prison, putting her in the place she failed to keep Shadow Weaver in.
Oh, you know, the Horde might be kind of bad people. I'm I'm just figuring this out. But, you know, >> Catra.
>> Oh, >> Catra, I found you. Scorpia, how did you get in here? push you [laughter] >> very high level dangerous >> very very much so >> come on I'm busting you out we don't have a lot of time before what >> Hordak he's he's called an assembly to witness your punishment but I'm >> Scorpio would straight up defy Hordak for Catra that's kind of crazy >> probably nothing but whatever it is I won't let it happen I'm going I'm going to get you out of here. Gosh, the these buttons are tiny.
>> So small.
>> Ah, hit the wrong one.
>> I never stood [music] a chance. I did everything right.
>> I thought I could prove myself, but it doesn't matter what I do. I don't [music] get to win.
>> Shadow Weaver was right.
>> She's not right. Don't give up yet. I can save you.
>> She cares so much.
>> You really care, don't you?
>> Yes, >> of course I care.
>> You're my friend.
I'm gonna cry. [snorts] I'm gonna scream.
I'm gonna melt. I'm going to die in that order cuz it would kind of be hard to do it in the opposite order.
Scorpia, you perfect being. Oh my goodness.
[music] You can't. Not. You're everything to me.
Not. You're everything to me. [music] [laughter] Catra, no. Catra, Catra, are you really going to laugh in her face at this confession? [snorts] Tell me this isn't lowkey just a little Vox and Alistister flashback coded. I'm sorry. I'm not sorry.
>> You're everything to me. [laughter] >> Caring about people is what got me into this mess. Or they'll take you down with me.
>> Is that her way of kind of caring?
>> Stupid. I said leave. Guards.
>> Wow. [music] >> Hord. Your your whole thing's kind of falling apart. [music] Do they have a door on timeout?
Is she just waiting for B to also fall asleep? Are they in a war of attrition?
The like the [laughter] this is really good sound design. This is really funny.
Oh, guys.
Oh, Adora. Oh, okay.
B, you trying really hard and that's valiant and I support you wholeheartedly. No notes. Okay.
It's just going to keep teleport. Yep.
The sound design of this whole bit is absolutely exceptional.
>> I'm here to relieve you of your duty.
[laughter] >> Oh, look. I told you I just need to talk to her.
>> Dora, Shadow Weaver will try to hurt you again. She's evil. Evil people don't chase.
>> Adora was from the herd. Horde? Dang it.
I'm from the Horde. I changed.
>> That's different. You're good and kind and >> and Shira, >> I was just like the rest of them and then I left. True.
>> Not because I picked up this sword, but because it was the right thing to do. I have to believe that the others can change, too. Even Shadow Weaver.
>> Wow.
>> Just Just trust me, [music] okay? The woman who raised me still has some good deep down inside her.
I need to know if she's changed. If the woman who raised me still has some good deep down inside her. That's beautiful.
That's really good characterization.
Like the the d the absolute desire to feel that to to want the person you viewed as a mother figure for so long to have something real deep down. Like that's just >> We trust you, but we won't let you face her alone.
>> That's valid.
>> Now, what do you need us to do?
>> There you go. That's how to do it.
>> Tell us what you know.
>> For the last time, she'll only talk to Adora.
>> Cast a truth spell. You should make sure you've drawn it correctly.
>> Dang.
>> Are you sure you're Micah's sister?
[music] >> You're such >> She's trying to get under our skin. You could spare yourself the trouble if you would just let me talk to Adora.
>> Why did the Horde send you here?
>> What are you planning?
>> You think Hordack sent me?
>> No.
>> I escaped from a Hordack.
>> You're dying, aren't you?
>> It sure seems like it.
>> Angela, can I speak with you for a moment?
>> She's dying.
What is this? And what's that going to mean for Adora seeing her in this state?
I just >> This is an incredible episode one. I know really it's like an episode 8, but like come on.
>> We've tried everything [music] and her condition is growing worse.
>> Perhaps we should.
>> That is not going to happen.
>> Well, you guys go in. I'll distract them. Your majesties. Hey [screaming] >> [laughter] >> Okay. All right, Scotland. Absolutely incredible. Oh, that's so funny. I love that he's just going to try to do closeup card magic with them as a distraction.
>> Consult with the lines before we go further.
>> How is this going to go?
Adora, >> listen up, lady. If you do anything to hurt Adora, Glimmer, >> so protective.
[laughter] >> Yeah, that's right.
>> Look at you, my ador.
>> You don't get to call her that anymore.
>> You snuck into Bright Moon. I want to know why. That's the only reason we're speaking.
>> I've missed you, my child.
>> And the awful part is that I believe her wholeheartedly.
She did miss Adora. She does trust Adora. But what's the goal? And what's she going to do to get it?
>> We're past that. Try again.
>> We're past that. Try again.
>> You always were.
>> From the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were [music] different.
>> What you always told me was that I didn't matter. I was special only as long as I obeyed you. Why are you here?
Oh, what's this going to do to Adora seeing this? What >> What's happening to you?
>> I'm worried this is going to activate too much of Adora's sympathy and it's going to lead her to doing something that is not actually smart, but also she wouldn't be the protagonist we love if she didn't have that sympathy.
>> I am dying. Adora, >> you're lying. Adora, I don't think she is. Yeah. I don't think she is either.
>> Oh, be so careful, girl. Oh, [laughter] but like you're the good. You have to >> move.
>> What are you going to do?
>> I don't KNOW WHAT.
>> WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. Is she going to unlock the sword heal ability?
We talked about that. We learned about that. And she was trying to learn how to use it from the hologram lady. What's her name? Bright Moon. No, that's the name of this planet. Or no, that's the name of where they are. Moon lady, light shard.
Light spinner. Is that No, that's Shadow Weaver. Oh my god. WHAT WAS I HOPE? I GOT THERE. I got there. We learned from Light Hope that the sword can heal. Is she going to unlock the ability for the sword to do the Shirro healing so that she can save Shadow Weaver? That'd be crazy.
I don't know why you're here, >> but I won't let you suffer like this.
>> Okay, >> I'm going to heal you, Shadow Weed, and then >> you will answer our questions.
>> Adora, you don't know how to heal. I can figure it out. She'll die if I don't.
>> Yeah, it's a heck of a >> Maybe I can [music] help.
>> Is Shadow Weaver going to >> a teacher of magic in mysticore?
>> Incredible writing, actually. the the ability to create like progression at a cost is such good writing and it's something I'm constantly trying to tread the line of as I'm adapting the Nameless Island and I'm that's so intriguing the idea that she's going to gain this boon the ability to heal but it's going to come at the cost of working with Shadoww weaver and healing the enemy And maybe that's gonna backfire on them. Shadoww Weaver is going to escape, cause some chaos, and Adora is going to blame herself. But at the end of that negative, she has gained the ability to heal. That's peak fiction writing.
>> I can help you control your magic, Adora.
>> I believe that.
>> You must trust me.
>> I am frightened by that.
>> But in return, [music] you trust me.
>> Okay. Trust that I'll see right through your mind.
>> Okay, Adora.
>> Lying for once.
>> Trust me with the truth.
>> Ooh. How you doing, bud?
>> Great. I've got a lot to cover with you today. We're still missing something.
Luckily, I just picked up a signal. The first one's message.
>> DID SHE PICK UP THE same signal that B picked up? Oh, now we only have like a little bit of a head start cuz I guarantee she's going to learn it f or figure it out faster than our team did.
the first one's text from the northern reach to our portal machine atce.
Luckily, I perfectly sort of first one's message. They're missing something we're looking for.
>> Fair.
>> Where's Catra?
>> Catra is a little >> There's no longer a concern of yours.
>> She's being sent to Beast Island.
>> I'm confused.
As you can see, the overall productivity of the Horde has increased by 400% since Catra has been your second in command.
Is she gonna like money person Catra into having her job back? Is she about to actually save Catra just with like the statistics of her usefulness?
>> Confused. Look at this chart. The evidence shows that First One's [music] tech has gotten us closer than ever to creating a working portal. This latest signal is coming from here, the Crimson Waste. We don't have a moment to spare.
We need Catra.
>> Dang.
Okay.
Okay. Entraa, let's go.
>> The squander troops on a lifeless wasteland.
>> Why are you so >> This discussion is over.
>> You were enjoy Why are you being a buttthead?
>> You are a princess. So you have a run stone that dwells there within your sword.
>> Really?
>> With it. You channel >> that. Didn't I say that when it got infected by Entraa's in the in the first episode with Entraa in it? What was that? Season one, episode six, seven. God dang it.
[sighs and gasps] I work with teenagers too much. As soon as I It's just It's such a nightmare.
[groaning] I believe I said that and if I didn't, I'm pretty sure I thought it at one point. But it's cool to have it confirmed that the stone and her sword is a run stone.
>> So you have a run stone >> and that explains why it being corrupted corrupts her.
>> Let it flow through the sword and into you.
>> Okay, >> focus your power.
>> I've tried this before. I can't get it to work. What do I do? point the sword at you or or what? [laughter] >> No, you can't you can't approach it like a fight >> down. Your [music] frustration will cause the energy you produce to become destructive if you >> Okay, >> come closer and allow me to help you.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, I'm so nervous.
>> You are afraid but refuse to admit it.
afraid of your power of it spiraling out of control.
>> So listen to the sound.
It's such the sound design of this episode is PEAK FAY. WHO DID IT? Who composed the soundtrack for this episode. Props to them.
>> You are afraid. Let yourself feel it, then move past it.
>> Okay.
You are greater than your fear.
[music] Oh, this is the the chorus. The little bit of four chord in there. And it l it it wait and the way is such a cliche four chord but it's not always in that order. Sometimes it might be like or even you know what I mean? But here it's it's specifically which actually invokes exactly what Shirra is going through here. Because if you think about it, she's it's like one step forward, two steps back. She's fighting her own fear. So she's at her low. She's here and then she pushes up to here. feels a little bit of resistance from her own fear and then pushes past it to her own highest note.
The chorus invokes exactly the feeling of pushing forward, receiving push back and then going even further, which is something that almost everyone has experienced before as they're fighting at their own thing. And how brilliant is it that the composition, the vocals that they do are able to accurately convey that? Every once in a while, I feel bad during my Shirro reactions cuz I feel like I'm turning into like one of the lower value reactors that just like sitting here and staring and just like, "Oh, THIS IS FUN.
LOOK AT ME doing big reactions and not really adding my own commentary." AND I'M LIKE, "AH." AND IT MAKES ME FEEL BAD CUZ that's never the reactor I want to be. But every once in a while I cook.
And speaking of cooking, the sound design, the composer, [music] and then go even further up.
WHAT ARE YOU?
>> LITERALLY LITERALLY THE IT DOES the So even like that final bit of push to her victory. Literally the vocals of that coral background are basically telling the audience exactly where in her own journey she is right now. Listen to that.
What are you doing?
>> I'm sorry. I tried.
>> Oh, B, don't you dare interrupt this.
>> Adora.
>> Wow.
>> I told you.
>> What an incredible scene. What an incredible, beautiful scene. Beautifully crafted animation, music design, voice acting, backing, chorus, everything about that was cinema.
Oh, wow.
>> She's Shira. Mom, what do you expect me to do? I held up my end. Now you hold up yours.
>> Don't laugh evily.
>> You want the truth? I have nowhere left to go. O >> Bordak cast me aside. I want to take them down and helping you is the best way to do it. [snorts] >> I believe that. I believe that's honest.
It's like everyone I have left cast me aside. The only person on this entire planet that I have any love or trust remaining for is you. And not only will going back to you reattach me to the only attachment I have left, it's also a pathway towards revenge.
>> Nordak has been working for years to build a machine. Lord, lore through the fabric of space.
>> Yes, he is.
>> He intends to bring the rest of the Horde's armies through this portal.
>> Armies. There's more of the Horde.
>> A force so large you cannot even comprehend it >> on a planetary scale. I mean, universal scale. three troops for years. He will stand no chance [music] against the full might of the Horde.
>> I believe that.
>> Do you think he's getting close to finishing this portal machine now?
>> Entra because he has something he didn't have before. A princess [singing] who knows how to combine first ones.
>> Oh my gosh, this episode's >> machines and trapped her. That's why she's been after all that first one's tech. How >> is this somehow the best episode in the show? Is season 3 episode 1 slash season 2 episode 8 randomly just actually the best episode in this entire show?
>> First it sure might be >> with the hordes machines.
>> How stupid do you think we are? She knows the horde is losing and she's trying to scare us. Portals to other worlds. It's ridiculous.
>> You're a magical princess. We on Athereia have no concept of a universe beyond our >> That's also fair though actually. What a good point.
>> Evidence stands before us.
>> Hey, what?
>> Hey, what?
>> Succeeded once before.
>> Hey, what?
This episode's crazy.
Shirro is alien.
Hordach succeeded once before. What do you mean? Or wait, or unless is Shirro not alien? Adora actually is. That's how he found the baby through a portal.
>> Portal bit space baby. I'm freaking out, man.
>> Me?
>> Yeah, you >> only for a moment. And in that [crying] >> a child came through.
>> What?
>> That child was you, Adora. Adora is not from Athetheria.
>> From another world.
>> What does that even mean?
>> Leave her alone.
>> I gain nothing [music] from lying.
Adora.
>> This is the sound design of the background. This maybe this will be the niche. This show is getting so much better at sound design. Maybe this will be my niche to like have value as a reactor because every scene in this episode has had peak sound design.
>> Different from us. Perhaps you would have preferred the comfort of life.
>> I think that's quite enough.
>> Don't listen to her, Adora.
>> Oh, Adora.
>> She's just leaving.
She's going to Ligh Hope.
Does Ligh Hope already know?
>> Lighope. [screaming] >> Greetings, Zidora. I was not expecting you for training today.
>> You said you've been watching me since I was an infant.
>> So, you must know what I really am, where I came from. Why' she bug it? Why is that causing her to glitch?
>> Answer me.
>> Is this like against protocol?
>> It's true. You [music] are not of Athetheria.
>> It's true.
>> Why didn't you tell me?
>> What are you from? What does that mean?
What is the implication?
What like what actually practically is the implication of that though?
Like you know what does that mean? How do you This is crazy.
So, like does she actually have different anatomy in a way that matters?
Like what? A reveal that big can't mean nothing if she's just from another planet. So, you know what I mean? Like, so does this make her alien biologically somehow? Will it give her abilities that others don't have? Or or or or FA, if you put a seal up, I'm going to kill you. That's a Kaye joke. Don't do it to me. I'm kidding. You can do whatever you want. I know I pay you to make fun of me, but what if she is from the planet they're trying to like what if the reason this is going to be important later is because like some of the people who are going to come through fighting for the Horde are Adora's real parents and she's going to have to fight like chosen one versus evil parents, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, like the ultimate story.
Could that be what happens? Are like the horde leaders that are going to bring the army through the portal her biological parents?
>> You asking about events in your own memory bank?
>> My what?
>> What?
>> Why are you asking for the clarification of events? You >> does Ligh Hope not understand that >> babies don't remember things?
>> I shall make a note of this.
>> Lighope doesn't know that.
>> Where did I come from?
>> Hope, >> we're learning right now.
I thought we were going to win.
>> This is the portal that you came through, Adora. [crying] >> The Horde stole you, turned you into a soldier for their war. I didn't actually waited for the day I could unite you with the sword.
>> How did you know she was meant to have the sword?
Are all previous Shirro?
What if what if all previous Chiron are visitors from another world and that's part of why there hasn't been a Chiron so long after Mara is because there's no stars anymore. Like the Horde took over the universe and that's why I don't know that doesn't actually feel that good.
>> These powersh ones came from beyond the stars. There it is.
>> They made the sword so that it would only respond to one of their own kind.
>> You're a first one. I'm a first one. You are upset. I do not understand. When Mara cut us off from the rest of the universe, she destroyed our portal capabilities.
Attempting to open one now would have devastating consequences, >> which is exactly what we're saying.
>> She must have come from the same place I did. I'm >> Why did she do it?
>> As Shira, >> you aren't listening to me.
>> To bear the power of Shira is an honest.
>> Then what happens to me? Don't I get a choice? No. This is your destiny.
>> Don't I get a say? Don't I get a choice?
No.
[gasps] >> You do not choose. You were chosen.
Adora, where are you going?
It is happening again.
>> Oh no.
>> We should never have let her talk to Adora. I can't even imagine what she must be feeling.
>> Adora.
>> But I think I know what I have to do.
>> What do you have to do?
>> My whole life, people have been hiding the truth from me. So, I'm going to go look for answers myself.
>> Where?
>> Mara started all of this when she stranded Athetheria.
>> Oh god, I was so worried she was going to go try to like use Hordach's portal for answers. Thank goodness.
>> I'm going to the Crimson Waste. I'm going to follow the message from Mara. I know it's incredibly dangerous, but this is my choice.
>> You don't have to come with me.
>> You think you could get us to stay behind if you try?
>> Good friends.
>> Miss Sola, how are we not done? We're nearly. But how is this?
>> Why is my man hitting the yarl pose? You can >> There is nothing I do not know. Your former force captain has proven to be compromised, ineffective, and worthless.
>> This is what happens to failures.
>> You're the failure.
Catrap, what you doing? Honey, >> you're the fail.
>> A little lip quiver before [laughter] >> you need me. Just like you needed Shadow Weaver. All you know how to do is hide in your lab.
>> Catra, >> maybe that's why you can't defeat a group of teenagers.
>> Catra. Oh, Catra, >> save your little speech. There has been a change of plan.
>> What?
>> Hi, Catra. I saved your life. You're welcome.
>> Entraa has interceded on your behalf.
>> Okay.
>> You should be thanking her. Instead of the many punishments I intended, you are being sent to retrieve first one's tech for us in the crimson waste.
>> Well, >> the crimson waste. And didn't we learn in the Bow Dads episode like they were saying they wanted to go to the Crimson Waist and Bads were like, "No, no one ever makes it back." What were their names? One was a weapon and one was just a man. It was like Lance and Paul or something.
>> Total dead zone. Nothing survives out there.
>> Exactly.
>> Well, interesting. That was the best episode of the show. 42 minute reaction raw footage. Yeah, you could tell I liked this one. Best episode. Best This season's going to be peak. This season's incredible. I'm so excited to keep going. So, this is going to be a real short outro. If you want to join the name scrolling very fast on either side of the screen, make sure you join the Patreon where you can get access to things like this way far in advance.
