Advanced breeder reactors can produce 10 times more nuclear energy from existing spent fuel without requiring new uranium mining, as these reactors can generate additional fuel (uranium-233 from thorium) and grow indefinitely from a small initial fuel supply.

No New Uranium Mining Needed for 10x the Energy本站添加:
Without opening one new uranium mine or even digging any more uranium out of the ground, the whole world could get 10 times more nuclear energy for many, many decades into the future. There's only 31 countries who have nuclear power and generates electricity, but they generate sort of a 10% of all electricity in the world because those are some of the bigger countries. Is it fair to say that if we took all the spent fuel from all those existing reactors and we used it in the most efficient way in Copenhagen Atomics reactors, then [music] we would be able to generate 10 times as much energy for the world just without digging any new fuel out of the ground.
10 times more energy, I mean that that's basically all electricity of the whole world. Yeah, not only can you produce 10 times more energy. If you're patient enough, those reactors are breeders, so they will produce more uranium 233 fuel that is produced from the thorium. So, you can actually start the reactors [music] on transuranics and then grow your fleet. That means that over time you can produce more and more reactors from that same initial kickstarter fuel and you can in principle grow that indefinitely.
