[00:05:14]It is really nice. We're still getting rain here in Hopkinsville back in Murray. Uh Clarksville's getting some rain. Pretty much everybody has gotten some rain and uh >> you know, I I really do enjoy this. This is a good day. Um it has really helped a lot. And we see that uh wow it's raining down there at land between lakes looking over towards I think that's sparkly lake from Bumpus Mills and uh let's see if we can find one a little bit better. Here's one should be looking over at uh Stewart County and that's Kentucky Lake there we're seeing.

[00:05:55]>> You see the clouds maybe a few little breaks. Not much though. You can see the heavy rain underneath these off to the right. Um, so yeah, there lots of rain around and um I measured as of yesterday morning. No, yeah, yesterday morning 3.1 no 3.3 ines in my rain gauge and I know we've got at least another inch since then. So we've gotten around four inches in my gauge. And what do you what do you measure? Well, um I measured mine this morning and combined total from the previous couple of days, uh totals was just over three inches. So, you're hitting about right there. And I know we probably gotten close to an inch today.

[00:06:40]>> Yes, it has been raining pretty steadily off and on, dodging the showers. I got wet a couple of times. I did get my ears lowered a little bit. [cough] >> [laughter] >> I swear I was trying desperately to find somebody to cut my hair and uh stumbled upon the hair studio over there next to Dr. Helsley and they got me right in.

[00:06:59]Man, I am so tickled. But at least I've got it cut and now I won't have to do it again for what, two or three months.

[00:07:07]Um so tell us about the weather.

[00:07:10]>> Okay. Well, I already see somebody asking about they're planning on a zoo trip tomorrow to Nashville. What do y'all think? And I think they're gonna get wet.

[00:07:18]Uh we've got a 100% chance of rain today. Um dropping to 90 to 80% tonight.

[00:07:26]Uh tomorrow, you might be able to get your trip in. It's a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms uh before noon. Then a chance of showers noon to 1. You know, they go through whole that whole routine, >> right? Uh Saturday night, uh we start off with a slight chance u of rain through the night. Then Sunday picks right back up to 70% chance of showers.

[00:07:50]Sunday night, 60%. Memorial Day, 70% all the way. As far as the forecast goes, we've got rain in the forecast every day.

[00:08:00]>> I know. I planted some trees yesterday because that's what I was waiting for for the moisture to get down into the soil. Good. And it is. It's down in there good now. And um even some of them had water standing the bottom off. Okay, this is nice. I had the holes about two foot deep. And uh I guess I picked the right time, but feels like I pulled something. I could barely walk this morning. It's gotten better as the day went on. But um man, it is so good to see rain out there and just so thankful for it. Uh we still, you know, just because we got this amount, we're not out of the drought yet, are we? No, we're not. I mean, the the last projection I saw was calling for a need for 13 inches in one month to get out of it. But if it keeps going like this, it'll definitely make a dent in it.

[00:12:46]First thing I want to show you is we had talked about uh adding fishing reports and and u uh pollen count. So, first thing I'm going to do, I'm going to show you the pollen count. Show you what difference the rain has made.

[00:13:03]Okay, everybody can still hear me, I'm assuming. U you see that the current allergy stuff is almost non-existent.

[00:13:12]That's because of the rain. And u as you see the graph there, you can see where it was really high and then the rain set in and now it's really low to where it's almost non-existent. This is something we're going to keep that updates continuously.

[00:13:26]And uh we're going to add this over to the 247 channel so you'll be able to get the pollen count and everything. Uh >> the important part is the forecast for that which is that uh those bar graphs on the right hand side there.

[00:13:42]>> It's Friday, Saturday, Sunday goes way up on uh >> Monday, >> Monday and Tuesday. Probably this rain is going to cause some stuff that hasn't been uh flowering or putting pollen out in the air to start putting some out.

[00:13:57]>> So that's one of the things I wanted you guys to see. I thought you would like to see that. Uh, I have a fishing report.

[00:14:03]Uh, unfortunately I didn't I didn't read what the fishing was doing, but I got a fishing report. Let's look at this.

[00:14:09]Watch this. There we go. Um, so you can see it tells you it's got light rain over there. Temperature 66.

[00:14:17]Got a north wind there at the lakes.

[00:14:19]We're talking about Kentucky Lake, uh, and basically Lake Barkley over there as well. U, you can kind of see what the weather is like. Uh, the lake levels. Um the upper is at 359.6 which I think that's about the normal.

[00:14:35]Um but anyway look over here where it says largemouth, smallmouth, crappie, bluegill, catfish, white bass, and yellow bass. This shows you the fishing report and u with that you can see largem ba bass the largemouth and smallmouth bass is average you know for this time of year crappies as well. Bluegill says it's not available, but I happen to know that uh this is a they are biting pretty good.

[00:15:03]They've just come off the beds. They're probably not as uh not as uh uh active as they were. Um but anyway, it is pretty nice. And I [clears throat] will tell you the catfish, they're on the beds and uh this is about the time of year they do go on the beds. They may be getting ready to come off of them, but catfish is really good. So is the white bass. Uh we call them I call them stripers. A lot of us around here do.

[00:15:31]And the yellow bass, but uh usually when you get a run of stripers and everything, you'll see uh shad jumping in the lakes. You just throw a a a hook out there. Um you would really catch some fish. I've caught three fish at a time on one line cast. It's kind of crazy.

[00:15:50]But u what else do you see about that, Mark?

[00:15:54]Uh they've got a generation schedule on there for when the dams are going to be opening up the gates when they're generating power and uh more gates because a lot of people like to fish in the turbulent water right below there for some water lake water temperature 73. So it's not too hot yet. But I know in the summertime it gets up in the 80s.

[00:16:17]>> That's true. It does. And uh so like I said, I I think it would be pretty nice.

[00:16:23]Okay. Mike Slater, he ain't right. He says, "You can't fish at M. It's a whole lot easier to catch.

[00:25:47]It kind of came up out. They did have some special weather statements there before. Now there's a radar indication and uh they said that might happen over in that area. Uh the SBC's got that under a marginal risk. Uh the marginal risk starts right about where we're at.

[00:26:09]But so far, uh, it looked like to me all the indicators were well off to our east and and down to our south for any kind of >> Okay, hold on. We got >> activity.

[laughter] >> But, uh, you know, this is what we're going to see probably throughout the rest of the day and through the night and through the day tomorrow and everything else is just we'll see storms and showers keep popping up and coming across us and moving on through.

Um, [clears throat] it's strange to say flash flooding, but the reason you would get flash flooding is because the rain's coming down so fast, it's not soaking into the ground fast enough. So, that could be uh what you would call uh flash flooding. But anyway, >> hey, there's my sister. Hey, Sheila.

[00:31:40]It looks like it's clearing out a little bit. A few showers around. So, uh, be more coming though. As you can see down here, might be a little while. It looks like that maybe once this gets through tonight, we'll be a little bit dry in the morning and it'll stay that way. Well, there still be a little chance of showers, but I think what it'll do is uh by tomorrow evening, we got another system coming in, right?

[00:32:25]Hopefully once this is done, we're finished with the drought for a while, >> but hopefully for good. Uh, okay. So, you know, I said I did some tree planting yesterday out in my yard.

[00:32:41]Uh I got some pawpaw trees and I've been holding on to them uh because it's been so dry. I thought gosh, I hate to plant them out there in that drought and the holes so dry you can't they don't have any moisture. So, I said if it'll just rain for a little while. Uh yeah, if anybody did say if anyone's in eastern Tennessee, the 24 channel is displaying any warnings to that area, too. So, I'll show you that here in a minute. But I did uh I did get out there and saw that the the holes were good and moist and wet and some of them had water down the bottom up. Perfect time to go ahead and plant them. So, I did and I was having to watch. I noticed there's some poison oak or poison ivy growing over on my property and I uh oh, that's a problem.

And I've got a little I did a little story here on this with help of Syakore. And uh anyway, maybe you'll learn something from this about poison ivy. Watch this.

[00:34:49]One plant can ruin a perfect day outdoors. This is poison ivy. And here's how to recognize it, what to do if you touch it, and how it's different from its cousin, poison oak. Poison ivy is a native North American plant, often a vine on trees, a low shrub, or a ground cover. The trouble isn't the leaves themselves. It's an oil called irial.

[00:35:10]When that oil gets on your skin, many people develop an itchy, blistering rash. [music] You can't catch the rash from someone else's blisters, but you can spread the oil from tools, clothes, or pets until it's washed off. Remember the old saying, leaves of three, let it be. [music] Each leaf is actually one of three leaflets on a single stem. One in the center, two on the sides. The middle leaflet often has a longer stalk.

[00:35:35][music] Growth habit matters. Vine with aerial roots clinging to trees like a hairy rope on the trunk or shrub and ground cover with no support. If you're unsure, don't touch. Use a field guide or plant ID app and keep kids and dogs away from thickets you can't identify.

[00:35:51]If you think you touched poison ivy, act within about 10 to 30 minutes if you can. Rinse the skin with cool running water, not hot water. Plain soap helps.

[00:36:01]Specialty poison plant washes can help, but aren't magic. Wash under fingernails and wash anything that touched the plant. [music] Clothes, shoes, tools, and pet fur separately from normal laundry if heavily exposed. for mild rash, cool compresses, calamine lotion, or colloidal oatmeal baths, and over-the-counter hydrocortisone if your clinician says it's appropriate. [music] Antihistamines may ease itch. They don't cure the rash. Don't scratch. Broken skin can get infected. See a doctor urgently. If you have swelling of the face or eyes, trouble breathing, fever, pus, or rash over large areas, or if you inhald smoke from burning poison ivy, that smoke can seriously injure lungs.

[00:36:43]Poison oak is a close relative. It also carries your rushial and causes the same type of rash. Instead of the classic ivy vine on eastern trees, poison oak often looks like a small woody shrub or [music] ground cover with leaves and threes. And the leaflets can look more loed like miniature oak leaves, especially on the Pacific form.

[00:37:05]Outdoors is worth it. You just need a sharp eye. Leaves of three. Let it be.

[00:37:09]Wash fast if you're exposed. And when in doubt, step around it. stay safe out there.

[00:37:16]>> And I really enjoyed doing that. That is uh a lot of information there on poison ivy. Uh the one thing I did I do want to tell you though is they have when they mature, they have red berries on them which is very appetizing to birds. So you need to get rid of that vine before it produces those berries because the birds will get the berries. They'll eat it and then they'll they'll poop it out.

[00:37:40]>> Call that.

[00:37:40]>> Yeah. Uh but the problem is that that'll germinate the seed somewhere else. So you might have it stopped in one part of your yard and then next thing you know you got it popping up somewhere else.

[00:37:50]Well, that's because the birds. So it's important to kill that vine before those berries form. And hopefully uh uh you won't have you'll eventually be able to eradicate it, but they're hard to get it's hard to get rid of. Um Stephie Rug says she just saw a tornado warning for Tennessee. I'm going to go to the 247 channel now and see if that's uh showing. And there it is. Uh you can see down there in the in the uh radar the red box which is where the tornado warning is and you see the the warning going here across the bottom of the radar telling you where it's located and all the information you need. So if we're ever not on and you have something pop up, you want to check it out, get on there and it'll tell you everything you need to know hopefully. Um, and there's uh the live camera there from the Hopkinsville elevator. We'll show that here in a minute on our channel. But I just thought you guys like to see all this. At least now you know what what this can help you with on this 247 channel. So, let's go back to the radar.

[00:57:21]We do know it survived the winter because we saw it after that heavy snow and stuff we had in the ice. So, it survived all that, but then I guess it found greener pasture somewhere.

[00:57:36]Now, this this is a free range camera. It's not an aquarium. This is actually in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Miami, Florida. And so the fish that are there are in the wild. They are not aquarium fish. And so they did this and you can you can see all different kinds of fish here. You never know what you're going to see here. Um I looked at it the other day. Some other fish are really beautiful going by. But uh again this is in Miami off the coast of Miami.

[00:58:10]And uh it is what they call a free range camera where it's actually that's coral right there in front of you. But uh they're not enclosed in anything. What you see is in the wild.

[00:58:28]You never know what you see. There's going to be some strange stuff come by sometimes.

[01:07:13]In fact, they have a severe thunderstorm down here in uh this is Columbus, uh Mississippi.

[01:09:21]>> But yeah, we'd love to have you and her to come up and we'll give you the grand tour and show you all around.

[01:09:35]As far as a recap for the weather again, you know, rain, rain, more rain. a little bit less chance for Saturday, about a 30% chance, but then we go back up to 70% chance by Sunday and on through early in the week. Uh and again, there's a chance for showers and thunderstorms in the forecast all the way out through Thursday as which is as far as our local 10-day forecast goes right now.

[01:09:58]>> Right. [clears throat] >> And uh our temperatures today, we were supposed to get up in the low 70s and we got up to around 71, 72. Not too bad.

[01:10:08]>> Yeah. But uh uh beyond that, we're supposed to be up around 80 tomorrow, maybe in the low 80s on Sunday and Monday and Tuesday. But then as we head on through the week, we start to cool back down. I think >> that would be with another cold front and that's when we may be looking at severe weather. So we'll watch that very closely. We are aware of that and we're just getting a little bit >> very far into the forecast. We get back up in the middle 80s. Yeah. And again, that'll be right ahead of that next system coming in.
