Weather forecasting involves analyzing current conditions, historical patterns, and atmospheric systems to predict future weather. This video demonstrates how meteorologists provide forecasts by comparing current temperatures to historical data (noting that 3 of the last 6 Mother's Day weekends had snow), explaining geographic temperature variations (Cleveland at 48°F while inland areas may drop to 30s), and predicting weather patterns including rain timing and temperature trends. The forecast shows a typical spring pattern with chilly conditions followed by gradual warming, illustrating how weather systems evolve over time and how forecasters communicate expected conditions to help communities prepare.

Cleveland area weather forecast: Still a chill, plus more rainAdded:
It is now 11:17. [music] Hopefully soon we can brag about the weather. Brag about the weather.
>> quite yet though. Not quite yet. I'm tired of taking my petunias inside and outside the garage. Every day I pull them out for sun and then I bring them in cuz it's chilly.
Too early to plant though. But remember, let's put it into perspective. Cup half full. It's chilly here, but how'd you like to be out just to the west of Denver, Colorado right now?
>> Oh my >> had 6 to 12 in of snow there over the last 36 hours. It was a nice little winter storm. I said winter. That's right. That's a hard pass.
>> That is a hard pass. Now remember, three out of the last six Mother's Day weekends we've had snow.
So, perspective, we're not going to have snow this Mother's Day.
But it will be chilly. Sorry, Mom. Let's show you what's going on outside right now.
Well, here's a live look at the Coast Guard station in beautiful downtown Cleveland. The lights are shimmering there. We're in the 40s now. We'll stay in the 40s all night long. We've got variable skies. We'll have some clouds in and out, mainly high and mid-level clouds and no rainfall coming our way.
So, tonight chilly and dry. Tomorrow we'll see some rain coming in, maybe east of Interstate 77 during the afternoon. Couple of isolated showers, but a more organized area of rain late tomorrow into the evening hours.
Weekend, unfortunately, looks chilly for Mother's Day. Sorry, Mom. We'll talk more about that coming up. All right, right now it is 48° downtown. It feels like temp of 46, humidity 63%, and those dew points are low. Air is pretty dry. So, we got a lot of 40s.
Still 51 down over in New Philly, 50 in Carrollton. How about 43 in Ashtabula and Jefferson? There could be a few spots, especially east and south, that do drop into the 30s tonight. Frost is not likely, but in a couple of those sheltered valleys you might see a little bit. Winds are very quiet as well. So, the warm air is well off to the south now. It's tucked to the south of this cold front right here, stirring up severe weather. Farther north, it's about the chill. It's the springtime chill. So, for the next few hours at National Design Mart hour by hour, notice this says 39°. Some inland spots could easily dump into the upper 30s tonight, maybe even some middle 30s down toward Dover, New Philly.
4:30 a.m. You got a 39 39 36 36. Cleveland's still at 42.
There you are. We'll be in the 50s tomorrow, and then there's a couple of isolated shower chances. Again, east of Interstate 77, just isolated stuff, but a lot of sunshine in between. Should be a pretty nice day as long as you're wearing a warm coat, kind of like today.
Then we get some organized rainfall coming in, drying out by a Friday morning in the 40s, I think. Friday afternoon, we're going to get you into the 60s. Not too shabby. Saturday, maybe a brief shower in the morning, but then look, our holy mackerel. Could we see 70s? I'm going to go for it. I'm going to go 70s with early showers Saturday. Unfortunately, for Mother's Day, falling temps through the 50s, maybe into the 40s by late afternoon with a few showers. Sorry about that. But the good news is we got another 8 to 14 days of the cold.
That's it. Just another 8 to 14 days, and then I'm thinking after the middle of the month, we're going to begin to see temperatures take a turn and go warmer than average. Partly sunny tomorrow afternoon, pop-ups east. 55°.
Union Home Mortgage 10-day, you got a 62 Friday. Let's do 72 on Saturday, Mother's Day. Uh-oh, 53. Some scattered rain. Chilly to begin next week, 60s to end.
