[00:00:00]Welcome to part one of my World War II journal. Sit with me a moment whilst I share true stories from World War II. A dimly lit room somewhere in England, 1940.

[00:00:12]A group of young women in civilian clothes sit around a wooden table. Maps of France are spread out. An older British officer stands before them. The British officer makes a statement to them.

[00:00:25]You are not soldiers. You are ghosts. If caught, you will be tortured. You will be alone.

[00:00:31]But tonight, Europe burns and you will be the spark.

[00:00:36]The women exchange glances. Among them, Violette, 22, fierce Cockney accent.

[00:00:43]Noor, 30, quiet, elegant. And Odette, 30s, poised, French-born. Her name was Violette Szabo.

[00:00:52]Her husband died at El Alamein.

[00:00:54]She fought for her daughter, for all daughters.

[00:00:58]That same morning, she meets resistance fighters. They blow up a railway bridge.

[00:01:03]Explosions light the sky.
