Malden serves as a prime example of how transit-oriented density and genuine multiculturalism can revitalize an inner-ring suburb without erasing its historic character. This exploration highlights the rare balance between urban accessibility and suburban residential stability that many modern developments fail to achieve.

Is Malden, MA Boston’s Best Suburb? | City ExplorationAdded:
Hey everyone. Today we're going to be doing a walk of Malden, Massachusetts, part of greater Boston. We're starting off here at the Malden Center train station, which is served by the commuter rail and the T, the Boston subway. The orange line serves this station and it only takes around 15 minutes to get to downtown Boston from here.
This is a suburb which people like to live in and it's grown a lot over the years.
It's a Wednesday afternoon, April 29th, 2026.
The time is 3:55 p.m. and the temperature is 54 fah, 12° C.
Molden Center is served by many bus lines as well.
Malden is home to a sizable Caribbean population, but there's been a rise in uh Asian population as well over the years.
You're starting to see a lot more Asian restaurants and businesses around here too, especially near Malden Center.
That looks fun.
I love walk on Exchange Street.
This will lead right to Main Street.
Once we get out of Malden Center, we're going to see a lot more of the traditional homes here.
That Actually, let's go up this way towards Pleasant Street. There's a lot more businesses over here.
It's actually quite nice to walk around Massachusetts right now.
Many of the trees are blooming right now with flowers, including cherry blossoms.
Oh, here's Hey, is a popular tea chain.
Heat.
Heat.
That's the sound of the commuter rail behind us.
Well, they're closed.
Well, that's why they're closed on Wednesdays.
Today's Wednesday.
Here's a flowering cherry blossom tree.
This is the double blossom variety.
And often known to be the most spectacular of the cherry blossom varieties.
It's usually a late bloomer.
I actually like Malden Center a lot. Has a lot of character and a good variety of different places.
downstairs.
>> 10 seconds. Rice noodles.
Oh, look at these cherry blossoms in front of this public parking.
Beautiful.
Doesn't seem like all the flowers here are bloomed yet.
Some trees are earlier than others.
She's using journaling to help her.
Some more cherry blossom.
Even though these trees are short, they have plenty of flowers on them.
Hugh O'Neal's Irish Pub established 2002.
I'm clean.
Ming's Seafood Restaurant.
And here is Main Streets.
This place I heard just opened up.
Sing Choy Iiki, new restaurant in Malden.
I do believe they have a branch in Flushing, Queens. It's a Hong Kong style cha.
Looks like they had their soft opening in January.
New York Pizza is across the street.
I actually tried New York pizza as a New Yorker and I didn't think the taste was that good.
On the corner is Malden High School.
One of the things that I actually don't like about Malden is how narrow the streets can be sometimes and hilly and often times it doesn't really feel pedestrian friendly.
This looks like a pretty full calorie pear tree.
Oh, this is the Malden Public Library building. Beautiful stonework on this building.
This is another really exquisite building.
the tulips as well as the cherry blossoms are stunning.
This looks like the perfect magazine cover right here. If only the tree was a little bit more full.
Well, this is the fire department.
Now you see a lot more of the multifamily homes.
Many of these buildings are actually condos.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Really nice to walk around this city.
Oh, this dog is so cute.
Bunan style restaurant.
And we've got Caribbean cuisine here.
Smells excellent.
Wonder how Vinnie's Pizza is.
Probably better than New York pizza in Malden Center.
Wonder what a membership entails here to get the 10 cents lower price on gas.
Maybe that just means cash.
This laundromat is no longer here.
There's paper all over the door.
Oh, it said store closing December 2nd, 2024.
So, it's been like a year and a half now.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Maybe I should push the button.
This seems like a scary intersection to cross.
Let's go.
I got a walk sign anyway.
That's the fire department coming.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
There's a lot of barber shops on this block.
And here's a steep street.
Goodness gracious.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
There's actually a really nice park down this block and also the bike trail.
Go down and check it out.
It's called Roosevelt Park.
There's no light here. No stop sign or anything.
Thank you.
At least some drivers are nice and let you go.
There's There's Roosevelt Park.
Actually looks more like a ball field and an extension of the school than a park.
But we can't check out the bike trail.
What is that?
I believe this used to be an old rail trail that got converted into a bike path.
Eastern Avenue is down there.
