In Christian theology, the Holy Spirit serves as the living presence of Christ within believers and the Church, transforming Christianity from external moral imitation into divine life. Jesus' departure is paradoxically beneficial because it enables the Holy Spirit to dwell within believers, creating an internal communion that surpasses physical presence. The Holy Spirit's primary work is truth, which tears away illusions of self-sufficiency and opens hearts to communion with God, healing the wounds caused by sin and disbelief. This understanding distinguishes Christianity as a living relationship with God rather than merely religious observance.

Morning Mass, May 12, 2026 | St. Clare of Assisi Parish CoquitlamAdded:
Let us rejoice and be glad and give glory to God. For the Lord our God, the Almighty reigns. Allelujah.
The name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, I'm offering this holy mass for the repose of the soul of Anthony Tan, King He.
Let us acknowledge the need of God's forgiveness and mercy, calling to mind our sins.
I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what I have done and what I have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault.
Therefore, I ask the blessed Mary ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
Lord have mercy.
>> Lord have mercy.
>> Christ have mercy.
>> Christ have mercy.
>> Lord have mercy. Lord, >> let us pray.
>> Grant, Almighty and merciful God, that we may in truth receive a share in the resurrection of Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
While Paul and Silas were in Philippi, the crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates had them stripped of their clothing and ordered them to be beaten with rods.
After they had given Paul and Silas a severe flogging, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to keep them securely.
Following these instructions, he put them in the innermost cell and fastened their feet in the stalks.
About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Suddenly, there was an earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were unfassened.
When the jailer woke up and saw that the prison doors were wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself.
since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped.
But Paul shouted in a loud voice, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here."
The jailer called for lights, and rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them outside and said, "Sers, what must I do to be saved?"
They answered, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. At the same hour of the night, he took them and washed their wounds. And then he and his entire family were baptized without delay. He brought them up into the house and set food before them. And he and his entire household rejoiced that he had had become a believer in God.
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
>> Your right hand has saved me, O Lord.
Your right hand has saved me, O Lord. I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart. Before the gods, I sing your praise. I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and faithfulness.
Your right hand has saved me, O Lord.
For you have exalted your name and your word above everything. On the day I called, you answered me. You increased my strength of soul.
Your right hand delivers me. The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me. Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.
The Lord be with you.
>> A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
When Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father, he said to the disciples, "Now I am going to him who sent me." Yet none of you asks me, "Where are you going?"
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. about sin because they do not believe in me, about righteousness because I am going to the father and you will see me no longer about judgment because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you.
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we heard a profound question.
What must I do to be saved?
Every philosophy, every political program, every self-help technique is really a disguised attempt to answer that question.
The apostles answer with stunning simplicity.
Believe in the Lord Jesus.
Not merely believe that he does exist.
Even the demons know that so well.
Believing in him the way a drowning man trust the hand pulling him from the sea.
That faith changes everything.
Fear becomes peace.
Cruelty becomes hospitality. and prison becomes church.
And now in the gospel of John, Jesus says something astonishing.
It is better for you that I go.
Imagine hearing that as the apostles better. How come?
How could anything be better than having Jesus physically beside you, hearing his voice, watching his face, radiating with the glory of God and love, walking the roads with him.
But Jesus knows something they do not yet understand.
If he remains only beside them, he's external to them.
Through the Holy Spirit, he will live within them.
That's why St. Paul says that we are the temples of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
He speaks of his departure not as a loss but as the beginning of a new presence.
The spirit is not an impersonal force.
He is the living communion between the father and the son poured into the church the bride of Jesus.
through him, through the Holy Spirit, Christ is no longer present only in one place in Galilee, but everywhere the gospel is preached.
The the Eucharist celebrated, the sacrament of confession extended to sinners, the poor loved and hearts opened to grace.
The spirit does not invent another gospel. No, he makes the gospel alive again in every age.
That is the whole difference between religion as moral morally and Christianity as divine life.
Christianity is not simply imitating Christ from the outside like copying um a hero in a movie.
It is Christ living his life inside us through the Holy Spirit.
And Jesus says the spirit will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. What a powerful statement from Christ.
The first work of the Holy Spirit is truth.
He tears away our illusions of self-sufficiency.
Sin at its deepest root is refusal of communion with God. It is the refusal of God's love and life.
It is the closing of the heart.
But the spirit opens what is closed.
He creates communion where sin created division, hell, emptiness and despair.
This is why the church herself must always live in humility and continual conversion each and every one of us.
The church is holy because the spirit dwells in her.
Yet her members must constantly allow themselves to be purified by the same Holy Spirit.
Yet, please notice something interesting.
Notice the deeper hope in this gospel passage.
Christ does not leave us alone to fight sin.
He sends his own spirit. God commands nothing without also giving the power to fulfill it.
Pentecost then is not only an event of the past.
It is the permanent breathing of God within his people.
So perhaps the uncomfortable question today for all of us is when the Holy Spirit convicts my conscience, do I listen or do I immediately distract myself?
Because the voice that exposes us, our wound is also the voice that wants to save us, to heal the wound caused by disbelief, by sin.
Raising our voices with trust in our heavenly father, we present our prayers for ourselves and the world. For all the church, may the holy spirit guide us in our prayer, our service and our evangelization.
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, here our prayer for peace in the world. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, here our prayer for those tempted to despair. May they find hope in the promise of God's love.
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, here our pray for all in this faith community discerning a call to the priesthood or religious life. May God fill their hearts in responding with courage and trust. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord our pray for those who have died especially for Antonetan King he may God's grace and love surround them forever in heaven let us pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer >> Lord God hear and graciously accept the prayers we offer you through Christ our Lord Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, For through your goodness, we have received this bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become our the bread of life. Blessed be God forever.
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.
>> Blessed be God forever.
Pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Almighty Father.
>> Grant we pray, O Lord, that we may always find delight in these pascal mysteries so that the renewal constantly at work within us may be the cause of our unending joy. Through Christ our Lord.
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
>> Lift up your hearts. Lift them up to the Lord.
>> Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right and >> it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always to acclaim you, O Lord, but in this time above all to love you yet more gloriously when Christ Jesus our Passover has been sacrificed.
Through him the children of light rise to eternal life and the halls of the heavenly kingdom are thrown open to the faithful. For his death is our ransom from death. And in his rising the life of all has risen. Therefore overcome with pascal joy, every land, every people exalts in your praise. And even the heavenly powers with the angelic hosts sing together the unending hym of your glory as they acclaim, "Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts and earth are full of your glory. Hosana in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosana in the highest.
You are indeed holy, O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise.
For through your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and made them holy. and you never cease to gather a people to yourself, so that from the rising of the sun to its setting, a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you.
by the same Spirit, graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.
For on the night he was betrayed, he himself took bread and giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take this all of you and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and giving you thanks, he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, "Take this all of you and drink from it.
For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this in memory of me.
The mystery of faith and resurrection until you come again.
Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son, his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to his second coming, we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice.
Look, we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself. Grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body, one spirit in Christ.
May he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, mother of God, with the blessed Joseph, her spouse, with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, with St. Clare and St. Francis of Aizi and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help.
May this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray O Lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world.
Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant Leo our pope and Richard our bishop the order of bishops all the clergy and the entire people you have gained for your own.
Listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you. In your compassion, oh merciful father, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world.
to our departed brothers and sisters and to all who were pleasing to you at their passing from this life. Give kind admittance to your kingdom. There we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory. Through Christ our Lord, through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.
Through him and with him and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
United in faith, hope, and love, let us pray to the Father as Jesus taught us.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior Jesus Christ.
>> Glory now and forever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, "Peace I leave you, my peace I give you." Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign forever and ever.
>> Amen. The peace of the of the Lord be with you always.
>> And with your spirit. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
Behold the lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to the supper of the lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
Body of Christ, bring me everlasting life.
The Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead and so enter into his glory.
Allelujah.
Let us pray.
Hear, O Lord, our prayers that this most holy exchange by which you have redeemed us may bring your help in this present life and ensure for us eternal gladness.
Through Christ our Lord.
The Lord be with you. And your spirit.
>> May almighty God bless you. The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Go in peace and joy glorifying the Lord with your lives.
