The book of Habakkuk teaches that honest questioning of God is compatible with faith, as demonstrated by the prophet's struggle to understand why evil persists; God's response reveals that while Judah will face judgment, Babylon too will ultimately be judged, and the key principle is that 'the just shall live by his faith'—meaning those who trust in God will remain standing even when circumstances are uncertain and answers do not come.

Why does God allow evil to continue for so long? Habakkuk gives an answerAdded:
Habakkuk lives in Judah at the end of the seventh century BC. The land is full of injustice, and from far away the threat of Babylon is growing. Habakkuk does not only speak to people, but especially with God. He honestly asks why evil seems to go on for so long without judgment. God answers that He will punish Judah, but that Babylon also will not escape His judgment. Habakkuk must write down what God says: the proud and violent person will fall; But the just shall live by his faith. Being a prophet costs Habakkuk inner struggle. He does not get a quick solution, but he must learn to wait and trust. Still, he ends with worship. Even if the harvests fail and everything falls away, he chooses joy in God.
His message says today: ask honest questions, but keep trusting when everything seems uncertain.
