Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric moisture patterns and air mass movements to predict precipitation and temperature trends; when drier air shifts into an area, it typically reduces rain chances while increasing temperatures, and the heat index combines actual temperature with humidity to indicate how hot conditions will feel to humans.

FORECAST | Rainy and Feeling Hot SoonAdded:
Just Sam Parker with your first alert Storm Team forecast.
>> Well, a good and happy Friday. We are tracking a few things. Of course, the scattered showers and the rain chances are going to continue, but as we head towards this weekend, we're going to be feeling fairly warm, especially with the heat index coming close to the upper 90s and maybe even triple digits as we go in towards next week. But a big thing I want you to know is this very top headline. The WKRG Hurricane Special will be airing tonight. Make sure you're setting a reminder on your phone 6:30 right here on News 5. You'll be hearing all the good information that you need to know about hurricane season for that this upcoming 2026 year. Now, as getting into the forecast, we're still seeing a lot of moisture move in from the south on our water vapor imagery, but also looking back towards the west down in towards south Mississippi. A lot of drier air is trying to shift in. If we can get more drier air to continue to move into our lower Alabama and northwest Florida, that will definitely start to lower those rain chances and starting to see a little bit as we head in towards portions of next week. I mean, we're still seeing the rain chances, but maybe not as much. Here's a live look at the radar where we're still seeing our much of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms moving down in towards what's was Baldwin County getting in towards Escambia County was this little cluster of showers and thunderstorms that was towards Mobile earlier this morning. A few smaller pop-ups now just north of Pensacola as of this current moment. And then back towards Okaloosa County. This was actually a pretty good cluster of showers and thunderstorms that was around Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and then that continued to move up towards the north now getting away from Okaloosa County, but still a few smaller spotty showers moving in towards our inland counties. Just mainly all spotty showers and a few thunderstorms. Actually right now over in Atmore, here's what we can see outside on the Wind Creek Casino Tower Camp. A little bit of rainfall you can see through the trees, those raindrops falling on down. But I know this is the consistent pattern we've continued to see. And as we go in towards the afternoon hours, yeah, we're still going to be keeping in those chances of those scattered showers and thunderstorms, Maybe a few of those downpours where we saw those reds and yellows on the screen. So, let's go towards the weather predictor cuz as we continue in towards the afternoon hours, still these spotty scattered showers and thunderstorms continuing to move towards portions of northwest Florida. And now as we go in towards our Friday evening hours, we could still see potentially have some redeveloping spotty or showers and some of those downpours I just talked about. But if we can get more of that drier air to move in into the upper levels, that will definitely help maybe limit some of that rainfall cuz we've continued to see so much rain. But as we go in towards your Friday night hours, this is where we'll start to get another little break period. And we got to watch out again as we go in towards our Saturday once again. Going in towards the weekend forecast though, look at these temperatures warming up into the upper 80s and then I got 91 for our Sunday. And that's also with the heat index on there. Some of our feels like temperatures, it's going to be feeling really hot over the next four days as where I'm tracking our temperatures in our orange bars here. These are the air temperatures, but then the heat index value, those feels like temperatures, that's what the pink bars are saying.
And as we go in towards this weekend and even next week, I know next Monday a heat index of 102. That is some definitely hot weather and very hot and humid weather that I know most of us really probably don't want to be feeling. We're going to keep our rain chances though right around the middle to portions of 60% to a 50% chance for this weekend. And then still even Monday, actually watching out maybe that could be the drier day as we go into it cuz we're watching out. We're still seeing a lot of moisture come in from the south. But as we go in towards portions of next week, starting to see a little bit of drier air trying to shift in and that could definitely help limit those rain chances, but there's still some moisture that we're going to be watching out for as it pushes up from the south. So, over the next seven days, we're still keeping these nice rain chances and warmer temperatures too. 90s are coming back in towards the seven-day forecast, so definitely stay dry and stay cool.
