Deli Boys Season 2: The Fake Deli That Fooled Everyone | Collider AccessAdded:
When we shot the pilot, we didn't shoot it here. We shot it in an actual store.
>> It is insane how identical it is.
Mesmerizing.
>> You're going to die.
[music] >> We're in Baba's apartment.
>> Wa!
>> Oh my god.
>> This is our father's hangout. His secret apartment that we didn't know about.
>> Yeah. The secret layer in the pilot season 1 episode 1. Raj has his coping room.
>> Trust the process.
>> This is Baba's coping room.
>> The shag carpet. And the >> the shag carpet.
>> Yeah, my man was getting it in.
>> Between takes we will come in here and there'll just be like four people [music] sitting there, five people sitting here, >> crew, everybody >> talking, joking. This is probably the spot that people hang out the most.
>> 100%. It's made to be sat on and like enjoyed and stuff. And I feel like that's their gift as set designers.
Jesse and her team did a great job of making it a livable space.
>> Yeah.
>> Filled of hot people.
>> Anytime we did anything with either blood or just like nasty vomit.
>> Hey, that's someone's thing. It all We pretty much got most of them on one take on one in the first take. Yeah.
>> THANKFULLY.
>> Amita hasn't actually had any scenes >> in here.
>> In here. [laughter] >> He's like so obsessed with me. It's so dumb.
>> She never came to the deli and she never came to the apartment.
>> To be completely frank, I don't know about all the things that goes on here.
>> I do this thing where I make Raj treat Lucky the way I treat my mom.
Please. She hates when I do it. She's just like, "What are you doing, man?"
Yeah, you're almost 40. You know, Lucky Lucky will just play into it. Oh, my more poor little butt. You know, >> are you going to take care of us now?
>> It's funny that Delhi wasn't built when we arrived. It was just finishing up.
>> Voice, what are you doing here?
>> Lucky auntie, you're out of jail already.
>> We had so many takes, but we couldn't get through it cuz we were laughing so hard. And so this place is just so so sacred for us. It holds all of us and all our all the shenanigans of season 1.
Lucky auntie gone crazy. I just didn't expect both of you to show up here. Come on. There was one take where I was pointing the gun multiple people and we just we could not [laughter] get through that take. It was all of us from season 1 in this scene. And I do believe that might have been the scene, first scene with all of us. So, we were delirious and we were laughing and it was amazing.
Where the [ __ ] do you think you're going?
>> The casino, the Max's office. It is like the clock is made of like it has dice in it. It's so tacky and so funny and so over-the-top casino. And it also has like super comfortable couches.
Everything's functional. We're in a few sets where we end up like sitting a lot.
Everything is so bizarre.
>> You especially cuz you squealled a little. That was really good. You're like >> Fred is an extraordinarily humble sweet sweet man. The gangster is a very loving, sweet [music] gangster. He's such a legend. We just had no idea what that would be like. Super approachable, nice, friendly neighborhood gangster.
The part of Lucky that has fallen for him is a part of her that wants to be loved by a wonderful, calm, supporting, loving, sweet man.
>> What was what was the sound?
>> Yeah, it's fear.
>> I was dying to work with Kum. Like I It's been such a career goal and it's unbelievable that he saw the show and wants to be on it. Like what a huge privilege. It's very very funny. He's really dumb and the fact that he's back in my life is like the bane of my existence.
>> Cute pants. Gucci TJ. I just rock them that good. I think this is one of my favorite outfits. Season 1, we just put a lot of shoulder pads on Lucky, but they were like shoulder pads. Now it's just it's a tiny person. Two tiny people. It's like a whole pizza slice up here. It's all shoulder pads. And Ly's hair is just a little bigger this season. And you know, she came into money with Max and the money laundering, so she's just buying more expensive stuff and more brands and she looks even more fabulous this season.
>> Hi, are you open?
>> Mom, dad, we have customers or whatever.
>> When I got in and getting into the makeup trailer and seeing Porna and OF and everything, there was like a very big yay and hugs and stuff like that. My entrance outfit when I first come in to defend my husband and fight for my husband, that is my favorite outfit.
It's very Sophia Lauren. Just very fun.
And I have like a headscarf and I'm like [music] bag I can swing around. I guess the bag is the least important part of it.
>> Amita, come on. She might be the funniest person on the show.
>> I'm taking it.
>> Oh. Um, thank you. My parents think it's Pokémon. Lol.
>> Them as actors bring such like a veteran comedic timing and ability to take any line and make it kind of rhythmically surprising or rhythmically so truthful that it's just so funny. And that's just so great to learn from.
>> Do you find my brother attractive?
>> He's a Philly 10.
>> Oh, stop it.
>> I think the line that gets quoted to me the most from season 1 that I had fun with, um, and that was an improvised line was, "I'm into some really freaky [ __ ] >> I'm into some really freaky off the grid shit."
>> She does think Raj is cool at this point. She still does have a crush on him and is just like down to help in any way. And so when that turn comes and Raj is the one to suggest it, she's very, very happy to jump on the horse.
>> I can tell from your eyes and also your awesome body that you are a good person.
>> This is the back room of the of the deli. This is actually where Hamza was laying down.
>> This is the deli, guys.
>> Bubba's dead.
>> Yeah.
>> When we shot the pilot, we didn't shoot it here. We shot it in an actual store.
And then when we got picked up for series, they built this identical deli.
It's insane. It is insane how identical it is. Like everything over here, this is all real stuff. It's all edible. It's all full. This is all like real merchandise. My dad called me at the end of season 1 and he's like, "Hey, Saga, what are they doing with the merchandise?" And I was like, "I don't know. They're probably going to put it in store." She's like, "Why don't Why don't they send it over to my store?"
We're not doing that, Dad. We're not cheap. I grew up in a gas station family. This feels so familiar to me.
>> What just happened?
>> You can see like the little blood marks.
Nobody ever cleaned up, I guess.
>> Can I interest you two fine fellows in a three-pack of Ferrero Rocher >> at the end of season one? Cuz we don't know if we were coming back for a season two or not, right? So, I was like, let me just get all my snacks in, right? I raided this section. I took bags home of like just candy and then I felt bad and I brought him back the next day. I was just here putting them back and this place has not changed very much at all. Originally there used to be like like a meat section over here in season 1 that existed but we just took it away for season 2.
>> Yeah, we have to do it.
>> And right now we're in the office of Max Sugar, this character. I've mostly been here. Max runs a casino in Philadelphia.
So there's a sort of casino theme everywhere.
>> Maybe I did mean to scare you a little.
You especially >> sometimes there's like a thing with time and sort of like keeping things fast.
You just have to sort of cut things down a little. So when that happens, we then we find ourselves improvising a little, not too much around those lines. The character is so well established and defined. Once that happens, it's easier to circle around that. I try to be confident because, you know, he's a casino owner, so there's a sort of bravado, but it would be too much. I like that they allow me take some license to do something like that.
>> Are you still scared?
>> I've had some great suits, but there was this one thing we shot this morning where I was in a sort of ski suit cuz he was about to go skiing and I think I love that one. Very cozy. But walking onto the set of the actual deli is mesmerizing for me because I never tire of set design. I walk into that deli and it feels like a deli and my body actually goes like we're in a deli and I'm like nope this is a set.
>> I would love to go. Thank you. Collider
