[00:00:00]How difficult it is to achieve an inter basin river connectivity in the Himalayan region? We are talking about Lahaul and Spiti. It's going to be a very challenging project. Has India attempted this before? And do you think how challenging scientifically linking two river basins is going to be for India? Uh definitely, Aman. It is one of the most challenging endeavors to uh you know, carry out construction projects in the Himalayan region. We know how vulnerable the Himalayas are, how uh steep the slopes are, how fragile the entire ecosystem is. So, we should not we should not uh you know, we should not overlook the uh environmental aspect of all these projects. Now, both these projects, uh one is uh you know, a river interlinking project, basically construction of an around 8 to 9 km tunnel. The second is uh the bypass sedimentation tunnel. So, basically, what we are trying to achieve in both these projects are entirely different uh objectives. But, what I would like to highlight is that when you undertake construction projects in the Western Himalayan region, there are a lot of risks involved. There are geological surprises which can you know, come up any any time. And we are talking about uh the Jammu and Kashmir region. And we are talking about Lahaul Spiti. Now, Lahaul Spiti for that matter, uh I mean I mean the climate conversations may sound jaded to a lot, but what happens is that we are facing those uh natural disasters getting intensified in these regions. So, when we undertake construction projects, it definitely includes uh blasting. And we know how how it can really uh destabilize these slopes. And uh we know that uh regions even like Lahaul Spiti for that matter is witnessing uh it's a cold desert, right? It receives very less rainfall.

[00:01:35]But, over the last two decades, what we are witnessing is that even the rainfall has increased. There are flash floods.

[00:01:41]There are uh avalanche and uh different disasters which are getting intensified.

[00:01:45]Secondly, I would like to highlight that uh apart from being a challenging endeavor, we must also understand uh the uh that we are altering the flow of the rivers. So, that definitely involves a lot of studies on how it will impact the local communities, how it will impact the local ecosystem. So all those studies definitely need to be taken into consideration which will be definitely taken into consideration when this project is actually planned to, you know, for construction.
