In rugby league, penalty decisions require careful consideration of the rules and the specific circumstances of each situation. When a player appears to be charging at a kicker, the onus is on the defender to avoid making contact with the kicker's legs. The decision to award a penalty or allow a free kick depends on whether the defender has made contact with the kicker's legs while attempting to put pressure on them. This highlights the importance of understanding the rules and applying them fairly in real-time situations during high-pressure moments in the game.

Api Enters Origin Game 2 Debate 👀 + Penalty or Play on? Matty on Dogs' Contentious Calls | Full ShowAdded:
Welcome to the show. Hope you have a good Sunday night. Keep your PS and a guys a big welcome to your bloke who's not just a star. He's been a star for a long time. and Cody Walker.
>> So Cody, you had the buyer this week.
What does Wayne do on a buyer? Does he train you?
>> Nah, not really.
>> No, he doesn't.
>> Yeah, right.
>> He gets away to the farm, so we don't see him, but um had a training session yesterday um morning, which which will lead into our preparation for Thursday night. It's a bit of a t um hard one because our preparation starts on the Friday. So, it was um hard to get away on the weekend.
>> Just a just a question on Wayne Cody.
Does he still have a handshake phobia?
>> He does. He does. Yeah. You get I think you get one one a month or one a week or something I think it is. But yeah, if you've had a good game, he he'll he'll give you another one. But a couple of the boys go in there.
>> Does he congratulate you? What does he do? Taps you on the shoulder or >> No, he comes gives you a hug if he's excited. He'll give you a hug enough.
But >> so he'll hug you but won't shake your hand.
>> He'll give you He'll give you a handshake if you've had a good game.
>> Oh, okay. Some of the boys I'll walk in there tomorrow morning. I'll I'll try to shake his head.
>> Well, how many handshakes have you had?
>> How many handshakes have you had this year?
>> A few.
>> Few. Yeah. Yeah.
>> You might get You might get one every few weeks.
>> He's an odd man. There's no doubt about it.
>> Funny. Bit of a joke around the boys.
>> Where are you, B? How you going?
>> Going good, Matthew. You >> mate? Fine. Like Neville Bartos. Tell you, you look good. You been Where you been? You've been to 3, mate.
>> I've been working.
>> Take trips when you can, mate.
>> Two days in and out. Yeah. Back here though.
>> How'd you go over there?
>> Good. Nailed it.
>> Yeah. Good.
>> Yeah.
>> Get into the Get in the car >> little bit. Pass the bowl around. Yeah.
>> Nice little nice little uh >> Well, >> oh gosh. This crowd. Good crowd.
It's the old It's the old beauty whenever you're stuck down to say how good's the crowd.
>> Okay. Well, I tell you what, we're going to cross back to uh the ground now. Talk to your bloke has had some sort of week.
Casey Mlan, how are you fell? Good, good, good, good.
>> Hey, Casey, first of all, mate, want to congratulate you on your origin debut, mate. You were fantastic. Did you enjoy it? Yeah. Uh, thanks again. Yeah, I was just, you know, grateful enough to get the call from Loz and to be a part of that environment, let alone get on the field. So, yeah, just again, um, grateful as to be a part of their group.
>> What about your origin teammates, Casey?
Why why didn't they play? I mean, you obviously you obviously backed up, but uh, your two captains just said no.
>> No, I got told um after camp anyways, I was like, "Oh, I don't mind." And then I got told at training cuz you're still young. I was like, "Oh, fair enough."
>> It's It's Honey, mate. Congratulations, Origin. tonight. A couple of great tries, but how do you prepare for a game? I've heard a little birdie told me that you you like to sleep for like 23 hours a day almost.
>> Yeah, I tried. I think um I'm still growing at least. So, I try to get as much sleep as I can.
>> But I tell you what, Casey, that was a great performance given no uh Isaiah, no Nathan, and no Brian.
>> No. Yeah. Um I suppose coach said it um especially when I went back in, it was the next man up mentality. You know, he has trusted the boys throughout. um cup.
Obviously, they won again today. So, you know, full credit to, you know, the boys stepping up and, you know, just doing their job.
>> Well, Casey, mate, you you've been you've been playing fantastic. Got a feeling you might get a starting jersey coming up for the Blues. So, good luck with that, brother.
>> Yeah.
>> Thank you.
>> Let's uh let's have a look at the highlights. It was Panthers 20 to8 over the was and just we're just talking about I tell you what, Cody, he he was unbelievable on debut, Casey. He was he was he was um I don't know how he done today just sitting on the bench for 20 minutes or whatever and coming on and just having an impact in a game where he's where he's on the wing but >> it's impressive um the production line they have at the Pen Panthers a like they're a champion another one tonight was it Billy Scott at at Hooker so they've got them coming through but >> how much do you look you look at the Panthers tonight missing some key players >> where do you put the Warriors up against them like yeah with Great game tonight, but Panthers missing some >> some key personnel.
>> No doubt, Heidi. It's a psychological blow for for for the Panthers, isn't it?
They struck one tonight with no Nathan, no Isaiah, no Brian, and still get it done.
>> Yeah, Warriors, to be fair, they had their two origin players here. And I mean, they were in this game right to the a game befitting of the top two teams. I thought the quality was >> Yeah, >> it was the best game of the round. And I suppose because where these two teams are.
>> Yeah. Very, very good. You know, there was uh there was one we're going to see, we might show this again, the Jackson Ford one went up. By the way, Jackson Ford, I tell you what, you know, he might get the call up as well. Uh he was unlucky the first time to miss out, but mate, he's athletic enough to play an edge.
Yeah, >> he's just invaluable. He'd be fantastic for the bench.
>> Well, he's been doing this all year for him. Like I know um it's a it's they don't the Warriors don't have like >> Silky here with wingers and two ones, >> but this is a How's this forward?
>> Yeah. Are you agree?
>> I don't know. I I think it's forward.
>> Really? I think it was Cody.
>> I don't think it's forward.
>> Yeah, I think it is. Yeah.
>> You think it's two five each other?
>> We just got a better sense of >> It's a butchered tri nonetheless.
>> It was been butchered. Yeah. Is that >> It's on the list. It'll go on the list of butchered popping. Yeah.
>> That's coming up a little later. Butcher of the week. Um >> we all know who that is.
>> It's extremely high profile first.
>> Yeah. Very high profile. Uh [ __ ] Um, we might just go to a break. Eh, let's >> by the way, how good is the crowd?
>> Welcome back to the show. Now people, prepare yourself today. Fantastic.
>> DRAGONS 30 and uh thank you to the people at Narquotics Anonymous for providing the crowd tonight. But uh boys, it was I tell you what that Credit where it's due. They they were fantastic.
Particularly the young BS straight away.
Straight off the >> C brothers Stewart. I I did like I like Moses Sulie. He got him out of trouble nice and hard. Carded the ball strong and really laid the platform for the forwards to get behind that and keep going in that in their sets, but just took the meters. Atkinson was great.
Controlled the game well.
>> He played good, Cody. He was uh cookie.
>> Yeah.
>> Always punching holes in him.
>> He's um he's a very consistent uh campaigner. Cookie. Um good to see him get the win. You want to hear something spooky?
>> Yes. Spook me out, bro.
>> Here we go.
>> That third year in a row, >> the Dragons have won by 30 to 26. Same stadium.
>> Three years in a row. Three years in a row. That's spooky.
>> That's spooky, isn't it? You want to hear something spookier?
>> Yeah.
>> Exact same round last year. Broncos, same spot. 11th.
>> Can they do that? You will.
>> Can they do it again? Can they do it again?
>> Who know? Well, that's a I mean the GC >> it was it was good because we were discussing this throughout the year.
They got no problems getting out of their own half and it Dean Young I feel this just said well you got to be a little bit unorthodox. We saw Atinson with a little grubber offloads down there. They weren't as scripted how they how they been which >> which worked. So >> Cody was saying that before you know if you try to play structured football these days >> and Valentine Holmes I know he's been sort of out of form. I thought I thought this was his best game. Well it was his best game of the year. Well, they they had to win. The Dragons are good on them. You know, they they deserved it.
But the Broncos, they're the they're the start of the year, they were total contenders >> and now they're like today's game, the the amount of errors they made, the lack of patience they showed, like the pushing the passes, >> that just they they were panicking.
>> You're going to win the brother. Are you Dragons, man?
>> Good on you. Good on you, mate. Sh.
>> It's all right. It's uh Okay. Uh now uh the M's unmissable moment this week.
I'll tell you what, one thing about the game at the moment went through a few years about you know a decade or so ago there weren't enough characters in the game. There's a mile of them now. The the B. Now the Catsman brothers. Now this week um Toby uh spoke at a press conference where he spoke about basically he pretended to be his twin brother Ryan talking about his 50th game. Have a look. Well, Toby, in what's been a tough season, 50 NRL games must be a nice little milestone.
>> Yeah. No, it's exciting. Um 50 games for the club. So, yeah, I'm excited.
>> 50 games. Growing up, did you ever imagine that you'd, you know, reach this milestone?
>> I'm not too sure. I think I was would have been happy to play one, but um yeah, I've got confidence in myself and I thought that, you know, it was achievable.
>> I thought it was your game.
>> Stitch up, boys.
>> Sorry. This is really taking couch wouldn't figure it out. We were right.
>> And to uh to confuse you even more, it was Ryan pretended to be Toby. So, uh yeah, double get now. 26-2 CRA over the Cowboys. Uh tell great win for the uh the Cambarons. Ethan Strange fantastic as expected. But uh and flex your man Dan Lori at 13. in Dan Loris.
So, he's a fullback now playing in the middle and yeah, the first half they just came out of the blocks this uh the victory was set up in that first half.
It was like the Raiders of last year obviously they won the minor premiership on playing pretty highrisisk footy and they're back to that but uh yeah, Ethan Strange was great. Hudson Young, that's who they've missed. They missed him obviously last week. So, thoroughly uh thoroughly enjoyed this game.
>> What about it Cody? like you know having Dame Lori at 13 that you just saw him go right straight through the middle of the road says everything about where the game is these days.
>> Yeah, 100%. It's really impressive that I think he played the first half um at lock in the middle of the middle of the park. Um that's a that's a tough um >> tough achievement in the game this day and age. So and >> playing fullback for majority of his of his um NRL career or in in the outside backs to to go and put the number 13 on and and play the way he did. Is it just me or does he look Does he look like Prince do you think?
>> Yeah.
>> The singer.
>> The singer. Prince, >> not Prince Andrew.
>> Prince.
>> And can you pretty sure there's a Prince album that he looks exactly the same?
>> Like Purple Rain.
>> Purple Rain.
>> What a wonderful artist. What's your favorite song?
>> Yeah.
>> Cream. Uh.
>> What's your favorite What's your favorite Prince song?
>> Raspberry. I love Raspberry. Remember when he changed his name to a symbol symbol? Yeah. If you wanted to be a symbol, what would you >> question mark?
>> Yeah.
>> Your name >> cuz mysteriousity.
>> Is that a symbol?
>> Um I know that.
>> What have you done to your hand?
>> Smack someone.
>> Oh, Matty.
>> Now, what happened? I I went gardening.
I was gardening today. I I loathe garden.
>> Show your hand to the camera. It's dangerous.
>> Show the big hand. There we go.
>> So, I got I got bitten by a spider.
So, and it's actually it's getting bigger by the uh >> Is it pulsing?
>> Uh the spider.
>> Oh, no. No, >> it is. Is it? Yeah.
>> Yeah, it's pulsing. I actually start to feel in my head. So, guys, if I >> if I look, I'm I'm hanging in there. Uh I'm doing my best.
>> But, uh I got to be careful cuz white tip spider.
>> Yes.
>> If you're allergic, you got to check it cuz a white tip if you're allergic to a white tip, it'll rot your hand.
>> Oh, Jesus.
>> It will. It'll eat your flesh.
>> Just to get back my best roses. Ros, >> you're pruning roses? What?
>> Uh, what are those? Uh, they're the pink ones. You know the uh cuz I play music to them when I go in the backyard.
>> Pionies.
>> Uh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Pionies. And mate, I I actually did an experiment. When I go out the backyard and I sort of hose them, I actually play music. And uh and they do grow. Yeah, they love Rose Tattoo. Uh, now Melbourne Storm 18 over the roosters for Uh look, just recently Storm put a couple of big scores on, but this was their best performance of the year by far, Cody. You know, terrific in defense, showed a lot of grit and discipline.
>> Yeah, they were good. Um and they've been they've been good for the last couple of weeks, and they've just, you know, sort of started to get their mojo back. Um which is good to see.
>> Yeah. Yeah. This this rooster side up until this game, they were averaging about 30 points a game. So, uh terrific game from the Melbourne Storm. the CHS just for whatever reason just struggle against them. I think they've only won one of the last sort of six or seven, but >> uh I don't know whether it was origin hangover. The roosters players looked a bit flat up, >> you know, and like as you said, the form is they struggled against the storm, they struggled against the Panthers and they've struggled in the wet a little bit. I don't know whether it's, you know, they try to push the pass, try to finesse a little bit too much, but yeah, that's been their kryptonite.
>> Two two weeks in a row. They pretty similar to the Cowboys game at Magic Ground. The errors I think it was 16 odd errors.
>> Uh Angus Cryon there with a new haircut I've noticed.
>> Yeah.
>> Just >> decided to shave it.
>> Got him.
>> Yeah. So uh >> Okay. So I did I was I was going through the uh the draw. They got to win nine.
>> Nine. Yeah.
>> They got to win nine games out of I think they've only got 11.
>> Do we do you know who they have? Who's in that list?
>> They do play Penri. They do play Brisbane. I think Chooks again.
>> Play the Bunnies. Yeah.
>> Who's that? Storm.
>> Storm.
>> Mate, your origin period. If you write them off, >> you're writing them off.
>> You just can't write them off. Just >> I thought I did. I did earlier on, but now I'm starting to >> This origin period is going to be difficult. It's going to be a big test for him to continue to win >> through the origin period. Uh Tig Tigers 226 over the dogs.
>> I really like Great game of football. Loved it.
Important win for the Tigers. Fletch got their season back on track.
>> Yeah. Well, Jiren Baller at the back, Happy Cororus out. They just in this day and age, you need all your top line players playing. Um, it was a great game. I thought this was >> great game.
>> The dogs came back. Uh, there was a a few contentious calls. I I saw the um >> the one with Josh >> the Josh Curran one. I I mean, >> I think it's a penalty.
>> I know people are saying, "Oh, you know, there's nothing in it." But you remember when Locky Ilas broke his leg playing New South Wales Cup? I think that was on the back of that.
>> It's the rules. It's the rules. Nathan, come on. Go. Hit me.
>> I just haven't seen this. The way know the way Josh has angled like to charge.
He hasn't gone at at the kicker himself or at the kickers like he's gone for the ball.
>> And I think this one's a little bit different. I know he's he's slightly made contact. I get it. But it's just >> what's the answer now? Do we let them >> Do we let the kickers have a free like in all seriousness have a a free kick?
You have to kick it if you're going to be a kicker. You can't run or pass it.
>> Yeah. So that then you well that well how are we supposed to put pressure on maybe there's no such thing as a chance >> you got to come on a different angle.
>> He he came on a good angle more >> he came on a good angle.
>> It's a tough one.
>> Let's ask Cody you're a kicker.
>> Yeah.
>> Not really. No. Well, you do do >> I do a bit of kicking but I think the onus has got to be on the the defender to not >> but you does that go through your head when you're you're thinking about putting one downtown and you got a two or three big BS coming at you. Does that go through your mind that >> No, not really. You just want to get the kick kick away. You know what I mean?
So, I think it's just got to the onus has got to be on the defender to not not make contact with the legs.
>> We don't think we're tough guys at the game.
>> I thought >> um happy chorus out boys. Uh I tell you what, um he's my origin hooker. I I just think experience, toughness, creativity.
>> He would have been in he was he would have been in the mix for origin one. He had that suspension. So I suppose Lori didn't want to go in with a bloke who hadn't played for three weeks, but no Blake Brily now. So he's the obvious replace him. Matty, are you saying happy to start?
>> I think so.
>> So you would have needed a little bit more creativity for our yardage early in the game and I just think I think it's a no-brainer. He's played with a lot of those guys before. Easily to form combination.
>> Um and just like if he wasn't suspended or injured before, I think he would have been in the squad.
Uh Josh Curran uh just let try cover that Satilly Tupure.
>> We talking every single week this season it's he's been the best dogs player and daylight second.
>> Yeah. Well you and that we've been saying it every week as you said Matty they the players around him need to go mate let's follow this bloke cuz that's the his runs that he does his defense.
Yeah he's on the borderline for a few of them but at least he comes out and he's trying something a little bit different but he's just the way he carts that ball up. He doesn't even care about what his body's doing. He just he'll cut this.
>> He'll get whacked. He'll get whatever.
Jeez.
>> Can't believe they let him go, Fletch.
>> Yeah, I think it was I mean they had they got a lot of back rowers. I suppose they'd be regretting it now.
>> Probably tight on the cap, too.
>> Little bit. Yeah, a little bit of room though.
>> Yeah, Kalin's off.
>> Now, news today. Jake Aarella, he's been pursued by the Tigers. There's talk he could be going there for next season.
That'd be good pickup.
>> Strange decision. Why is he I read is it family reasons he wants to come down?
Because I'd imagine the Dolphins would want to keep him. M >> I don't know if you think so.
>> But no, he'd be a great be a great great picker.
>> Really really good.
>> Uh boys just in the game the the old referee got in the way during the game.
I don't know if you saw it but have a look at this. Getting in the way of safe well not safe over I don't know if >> safe had memories of magic round again but he got out of the way quite quickly but he just they get in the way every now and then and it kind of got me thinking have we have we seen it before?
>> Have we seen this sort of stuff before?
And I went you know what we have. Here we go. Hollywood once he gets in there twice. Put him in there. Hollywood. Alan Shortle here.
Watch him here. Get out of the way.
Cops that Adam Deich. Watch this. Oh, Morris on the ground.
Harris. Here we go. This last not the Gav Gav badger. Here we go again. What's just and try TO >> now Newcastle 2822 over the Eels.
>> Tell you what, there's boys full house in Newcastle. So they've got they're right behind the the locals. They see something special building. Heyy, I I tell you what, the Eels mate, they were good. Jeez, they fought hard.
>> They they did fight. It was a bit tip for tat this game. You know, it seemed to be the the the Knights had score.
They scored early. Eels would go back and score. Knights had score. So, it was a lot of tit for tat that I liked what I saw from the Eels, but I'm going to like Knights did what they did they had to had to do. But I with the with the lack of players that Eels have got.
>> Yeah.
>> I thought they showed a little bit more spark this week than they have in previous weeks and some good good platforms to go from.
>> Our man Dylan Lucas, >> we spoke about him coming into the 19man squad last week. I think my mate, he can >> he's versatile. He can play center.
>> He's obviously the back rower. Scored a double on the weekend. He's got speed.
He's got footwork. Defensively, he's sound. He's if he doesn't if he doesn't make it this year and continues to show this sort of form, he's got to be looked at in the squad next year.
>> He would be in the 19 purely because he can play as we saw he could play in the centers if need be, play anywhere in the forward.
>> And we said before about, you know, edge. The last thing you want to do is put, you know, Cam Murray in an edge.
You want to keep him in the middle. So guys like Lucas I think there well I was going to say fatal complete but it's not but I'd love to see him in it.
>> Is that Latin? No it's French.
>> What does it mean?
>> Fat complete. It means basically done.
It's complete.
>> Yeah.
>> Spider bes I'm worried about loosen your lady's watch.
>> I know. Yeah. It actually used to Yeah.
It's really bad guys. I'm going to hang in there. Cody, >> is it a ladies watch?
>> It's not a ladies watch.
>> It's not a ladies watch.
>> Um tidy watch for tiny hands.
>> Sorry. I tell you guys, >> let's get professional. Let's get back to you. Saw that. Uh 28-22 the Sharks over Manley.
>> Only uh only the second loss to the Kieran Foren. But uh well done to the Sharkies. Jeez, mate. Manley got stuck on the barriers, didn't they?
>> Yeah. Um and both sides had, you know, key players out. They were cruising along the the Sharks with Blake Brley.
He was having a game and then when he went off, uh Manley got right back into the contest, but the Sharks were were probably a little bit more clinical and I thought Young Trindle again stepped up a good coach.
>> Oh, he's he's been like that for a couple of years now. He's been um outstanding and just see the control he had on the weekend. He was he was in everything. I thought Will Kennedy was was unbelievable at the back too. Like >> his kick returns and everything like that. His his efforts unbelievable.
>> Uh Blake Braley we said before, mate. Uh he was fantastic coming off the bench late in State of Origin. Yeah. Broken arm.
>> Yeah. Is have they they confirmed broken arm now? Yeah. Just the one bone I think it is. So yeah, the poor bugger like he's he's played an outstanding origin.
He got involved. you got amongst it and to get that taste and all of a sudden that taken away with from from you with just pure injury.
>> Yeah, you feel for him. But he he was an outstanding start to the game to get out of dummy half created a lot of opportunities.
>> Here we go people ladies and gentlemen flesh the VB.
Thank you Matthew. Let's have a look at the leaderboard and it seems like every week Terrell May is in the top five. He got the elusive 111 Payne Hass on his comeback game. He also got into three digits. Cam McGinness and Stfart Big Stfano. So all forwards which is great. Now uh the winner this week we saw earlier the week Andrew Abdo resigned >> from the NL pretty good job. Andrew, but Peter Valantes was there and I feel that every all these other codes needed Peter Vandes because again Peter Valandis at the press conference with an absolute zinger.
>> Very hard day for me personally today.
Um it's with much disappointment that I announced that Andrew Abdo joined the One Nation party and we're going there to this afternoon.
Now, that wasn't the first time he's had it. We actually caught up with uh Peter.
So, have a look at some of uh Mr. Valanti's greatest work.
>> Humor is is you need it.
>> If you don't have humor, you got nothing.
>> We can make tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars for the game and the Heindy and um Fletch show.
>> Do you watch that show, Peter? Do you watch NRL 360?
>> If I want to get concussion, yeah, I'd watch it.
They're called brown paper bags.
>> Just please explain yourself on other >> You know about brown paper bags more than anyone.
>> I couldn't work out why your wife calls you noodles, but then I worked it out. 2 minutes and you're done.
>> His wife, too.
>> Yeah.
>> She calls him seaweed. Hangs around all day and stinks. SO, >> he's very good. He's very good.
>> He's very good, isn't he?
>> Yeah.
>> Very good. Very good company, Peter. So, uh, >> very good company.
>> I'm gonna have a VB for him. He doesn't drink. He drinks Pepsis.
>> Yeah, he had Pepsi Max.
>> He's got a belt. P it. He's got a belt, please.
>> Yeah.
>> What's that? Sorry, mate.
>> Yeah. I was thinking the same like, you know, when you were talking before about, you know, when you have a little sid off the the booze. Yes. And uh >> fun time of your life, but people said, "Mate, just drink zero alcohol beer."
Love it. Please, just Pepsi Max tastes better.
>> Mouthwash. Uh, mate, the turban oil in the audience there. Uh, good on your flesh.
>> Well, I'm going to take a break, but do yourself a favor. Face to face this week, part two. Fatty Borton, >> but of course, it's a very emotional day for Paul Fatty Borton.
>> The CEO and the club president, they just flat out say to me, "We don't want you here. We think you've had your day."
He has gone from hero to has been within 4 days.
>> I drove home and I cried. It's all over and done.
>> Amazing career. But some of your best work was in the representative arena.
>> You must have been the proudest man on the planet.
>> It was so good. We didn't just play footy together. We grew up together.
He's going to do it. He gets told, "If we lose tonight, you will never coach Queensland again." Wayne gets our first meeting and he goes, "I want a call to arms." That gets us going. What about Queenslander?
Billy owes me a lot of money.
Welcome back to the show. Hope you're enjoying it. Uh now listen, before we talk about State of Origin, some big news today. Latrell Mitchell out of State of Origin 2 with a back, which is it's a massive blow. It really is. And Patty Carrian uh is in doubt as well. We saw after the game he was in a moon boot. Uh there it is. So unlikely to play State of Origin 2. Big blow for Queensland. So uh and what about it, boys? New South Wales 2220 OVER CODY. LOOK, I know you're a proud blue and it's, you know, hard to sort of talk about, but I must say, and I no one would disagree, the first half for New South Wales. We were down 20 to six, 20 nil at one point. It actually flattered us. It's one of the probably one of the worst performances I've seen in State of Origin that first half.
>> Yeah, it's been the last three, Matty.
We've come out of the blocks.
We've been stuck in the in stuck in the barriers if we're talking about horse racing uh vernacular. So, I don't know what happens. I don't know whether what happens in the warm-up or what, but it was game two and game three last year, now game one here.
>> Well, I'm sure Lori has them prepared.
Obviously, they're professionals these play. They It's the best of the best.
They they're going out there, but they just got the jump. Queensland just seem to get the jump on us. Their line speed was quicker than ours whole game. Uh defensively, kick chase was fine, but our one-on-one tackles were poor. I thought you around the legs, you can't do round, you can't make a tackle >> one-on-one in Origin around the legs because it's just too quick. The release is too quick. Doesn't let the big boys get back on side. There was too many of those. But the errors, the errors cost us, you know, getting out of trouble, that's all it was.
>> What your thoughts, Cody, on it?
>> Yeah, I thought um obviously they all agreed too like we were quite poor the first um 20 to 40 minutes, but I thought the addition of or the change of Victor Radley and and Cam Murray coming on, they just >> they just changed the whole dynamic of the game. um leg speed through the middle.
>> Yeah.
>> Um defense. So, you know, Bradley's an origin player. Yeah. And K Murray was absolutely outstanding. So, >> um >> jeez, clever tries. You know, I mean that those two grubber tries, they're slated tries, you know, that little fain in the middle to go back to send Teddy the wrong way. Uh but the biggest moment of the game, big talking point was the Cal Pong sendoff. Uh fellas, I look and I I'm I'm being totally unbiased when I say this. At the end of the day, it was a sendoff in my opinion.
>> Yeah. And and I think the fact that it was the shoulder going in, there was no if he had gone with his right shoulder.
We were discussing this on radio the other week. He's done this. He did this to Latril.
>> So whether he's got a bodgy right shoulder or what, but if he had wrapped it up and and then >> you would understand it might be only 10 minutes, but it was the >> it was a blatant shoulder charge. So >> and everything changed. It was more than just a numerical advantage straight away like you know it it actually forced us to throw the shackles off and start play some football. Vice versa Queensland suddenly started treading water trying to trying to defend the lead and Cody and this you know the game these days you just can't defend a lead.
>> Yes. Especially with with one player down as well. It's it's quite remarkable that they defended for so long and then got pipped on the last play of the game.
You know what I mean? So um you got to give credit to Queensland for their their effort as well. But um look, I thought Ethan Strange was was outstanding um in his debut game and had a fantastic game over um today. Um >> yeah, >> you know, yeah, it was really good.
>> And you know, Mlan, mate, we'll talk about him shortly, but I I tell you what, Fletch, that last 20 minutes, I think some of the players had saved them. I think there's a couple of players that would have been really touch and go if they got hit again.
Yeah, it's it's it's it's so tough that because they've at the end of the day they've won the game so they automatically should I think they should be picked. There was a few guys we were expecting a little bit more from. Look, I think Teddy's performance it wasn't the best we've seen him play in origin but you know he he scores that beautiful try at the end to win the game for New South Wales. So you can't help from that but there was yeah there was a few players probably just weren't what we were expecting from and weren't at their best. But that that happens every now and then. You can't you can't expect everyone to go out there and have an absolute blunder. expect changes, Matthew. You >> I think if you ask the question, you say, "Would we have won if Kalen Pong has stayed on the field?" Well, I'll ask that. I say, "No, no, he doesn't." Well, then how can we not make changes? I think I think we have to. I think there's some players we we should look at with that. Look, there's ones that just >> Yeah. goes with saying Payne H comes into the side, but I'd look at Casey Mlan putting in the starting lineup. If Latrell's not there, I'd have Casey Mlan on the left and I'd put Kiton on the right because mate, >> you don't think Capone did enough? I I just think I thought >> I thought he was I thought he was really aggressive in defense.
>> I thought I thought he struggled handling Kalin. Now >> I reckon 90% of players would with Kalin, but Kiteon is a defensive specialist. If anyone can try >> again on the weekend, he came in again when he didn't need to, you know, against the Tigers.
>> You really destroy my argument. Okay, >> it's true that but but you're right. You know, it it's, you know, >> it was the middle for me. The middle just I know they had to get through a lot of defense because the the errors were made, but there was just no line speed >> compared to what the Bron what Queensland were doing. They were up in our face the whole game. They're even off they were offside two or three meters, but they tested the ref, you know what I mean? And the ref didn't blow the whistle cuz they're all going up together.
>> And it was a good punt because you look there, all the talk all week is we want the game to be refereed like an origin game, not like a club. And Slavs obviously said, "Well, okay, let's test it." Fudge. Exactly.
>> Good on him. Now, uh that's your opinion. Uh now, the origin player performer brought to you by Step One Underwear, which has made incredible underwear. Greatly, you know, Nathan Clearary. And look, Cody, is he in like he's the best pressure player that I've I've seen. Your thoughts on it?
>> Yeah, I mean the that 2023 grand final where he just put Penth on on his back.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> And just took the game away from the Brisbane Broncos. And he sort of done that here. Some of some of his moments at the back end of that game were unbelievable, you know, and he's >> he's just so calm all the time. Like I played Origin with him and just having him around the you know, being around the group and everything like that. He's real calm in in any sort of environment.
So, >> but is he is he loud, Cody? Is he is he a big talker >> on the field? Obviously, he's a big talker because he >> he's a he's a general. gets play the team around the park, but he's quite he's pretty pretty quiet off the field, but he's he's always seems calm in in any sort of environment that you put him in. And I think, you know, it showed on the weekend or >> his old man in the DNA. The old man was the same.
That's what I've heard anyway.
>> Cody, this was Nathan's, but he doesn't wear undies, so we're giving them to you.
>> I think the step one, >> so this is yours, Cody. Cody, some some long ones.
>> Oh, some long ones. Beautiful.
>> No need for snake bites, guys.
>> Yeah. Oh, that that's some pajamas.
There you go, Cody.
>> Some some say on my old >> This is for recovery.
>> More under more undies.
>> Beautiful. Wow.
>> And also, I don't usually do this and I'm not like Oprah Winfrey, but you're all getting undies as well.
except the guy in the pen of the shower because he's not coming back.
>> So, we'll do that. We'll do that in the ad break. So, congratulations.
>> That's okay, mate.
>> It's okay, mate. They come in all sizes, even extra small. Uh, now a couple of the performances talk about boys. Sam Walker. Yeah. Uh, Sammy Walker on de uh people question whether know his stature and everything. Would he, you know, would he stand up? It was one of the great Origin debuts. Best game I've seen him play. He yeah, his little sneaky kicks. We We know he's got a great short game, but I thought it was his toughness in defense and he did not make an error.
Like he was just making the right decision at the right time. And it's a it's a huge ask to come into a side when and you're making your debut and then be the general >> and demand things from your forwards, get like to get us to uh the part of the ground that you want them to get to. And then yeah, like if if we don't win, he's he was the moral for the man of the match. And we've spoken before about my opinion Casey Mlan comes in somewhere because someone you know to come off the bench I don't think we win if he doesn't come onto the football field. I think the impact his impact and just make the way he attacked the game I thought was it was one of the best deboss I have seen.
>> Yeah he's an athlete but Cody and I were just we thought Cola was >> I thought he considering where we were in what we were doing in those first 20 minutes. I thought he took some some tough carries. So, um I don't know who who you would replace >> Yeah.
>> Casey with embarrassment. Riches.
>> Yeah, that's a good that's a good call.
>> Oh jeez. What's going on here?
>> Holy duly. Look at this. Talking about serial killers. Look at this.
>> It's time for this.
>> Yes. Butcher of the week. Obviously, our first inaugural butcher of the week was Hugo Sava for a absolute bomb try the other week, but this week, look, we had a couple, but there was an absolute standout, and it goes to James Tedesco game one.
Look, the poor bugger. I know everyone panicked, but you can't throw a pass at the B 7 foot tall playing in the back row down to his feet. So, Teddy, congratulations.
Give a big try thanks to >> Soldiers Cut.
>> Soldiers cut.
>> Yes. I must say watching you with that.
>> Yeah. No, don't do that.
>> Nathan bit of Jeffrey Dharma about you.
>> Uh now >> Nathan, don't don't do that, please.
>> Very dangerous.
>> Oh, now I tell it last night and it sort of slipped. There it goes. Bit slipped under the radar a little bit. One of the great traditions of Rugby League is the Challenge Cup final. Last night, the Wigan Warriors beat Hulk KR 40 to 10.
Big win for the Wigan as Fletch our old alumni.
>> Yeah. So, it's another one they've got.
Uh my man Willie Peters was the coach of Hulk KR. So, disappointing. I suppose he still got the uh the premiership as I like to call it over there, but yeah, Wigan too good. Dom pretty um I don't know whether it was a record in Challenge Cup finals, but >> I think there was was 10 a few years ago.
>> Yeah. Please, for those who don't know, challenge cup final is one how what is the challenge? It's like the uh like football's FA Cup final over there. And so back in the day, so you have the normal competition and like it used to be here, the Panasonic Cup or Cup, it runs like a well an alternate competition through and back in the day like the old FA Cup it was more prestigious than the normal competition.
It was like, you know, if you you look back in the day, like when Sterlow played um for Hull and Brett Kenny played for Wigan, like 98,000 people there. Yeah. I'll give you an example here. This is 1988 final. This is Wigan versus Halifax. 94,000 people at this game with Halifax. You had Chris Chris Anderson as captain coach. Uh Wombati come out of retirement. Uh but mate, Wigan were too strong of the day. Look at the genius here of Valerie Hanley.
Have a look at this play. And Hanley was wrong. He could move run as quick sideways he could forward free play. And and it's also open to other divisions like the lesser divisions underneath. Has anyone uh cuz you are a book of knowledge. Has a team not in the Super League like a division down ever gone?
>> I don't believe so. There's been some fairy tales like I think Featherston once got a long way through. There was that year with Don Fox. Uh, but I don't think like it's happened of course with the FA Cup in football, but I don't think with the uh with the English rugby league. Sorry about that flesh.
>> That's all right. How's the spider?
>> Oh, it's not good.
>> It's getting red.
>> It's getting real red. You got to take this inspiration. Tell the boys about this. Now it's time for chewing the fat with Cody.
>> That could do anything. Cody, next year, mate, what what are what are the plans?
Uh thinking about uh English Super League, another year with the Bunnies.
>> I'm not I haven't given it too much thought to be fair. Um look, I think Super League's out of the out of the question. I got a young family. My son's turning 15 at the end of the year and he's going into that that important stage of his life. So, >> you know, I'd hate to leave him um in Australia and go over there and um play over there for a few years. So, I think that's out of the question, but that's not to say I haven't got a, you know, an offer on the table that I can consider.
But, um, with those sort of, um, things, I I think I'd give that a miss. But I I'm not sure to be fair. I'm just enjoying, you know, playing some from footy. I played, I think, 11 games last year and I've already got that this year. So, >> um, I'm just enjoying being out there.
>> Well, Cody, there's not that many, you know, quality experienced playmakers that you'll end up unemployed. You you'll end up somewhere. There's no doubt about it. Hey, just on uh Alex Johnson this year broke broke the record. But mate, in the uh in the record, you you actually provided by far the most triice for Alex. Has he slung you any cash or maybe gave you a Rolex of some biscuits?
>> All I've asked is a beer, but he hasn't given me nothing.
>> Incredible achievement. Incredible achievement.
>> Oh, it's huge, man. It was just it was just one of those pinch me moments that, you know, we were able to be on on the field at the same time.
Um, and I don't think he gets enough credit for for some of the tries he does score.
>> Um, >> how was Wayne like that in that game where there was just, you know, chaos and just went back into the sheds. How was Wayne in there at the time? Cuz he's all business.
>> Yeah, he was he was pretty um he was pretty um adamant that we needed to get onto our next job. And you know, if you look at the game in itself, it probably um we were down at Halime. We came out very first set, scored that try and it sort of took the momentum away from us a little bit. So um he was sort of um straight to us about getting getting onto the next next job and and making sure we we come away with the two points which you know we weren't able to do but um wonderful achievement and it was it was wonderful scenes there. It was it was >> now out of all those tries I didn't see in him do much niggling but you on the other hand you you love you love a bit of niggle don't you? You do. Yeah. It's a great You just What is it? You just You just Is it something you've always had? Did you have it as a kid? You like this in the >> Yeah, I'm a bit of an idiot sometimes, >> mate. Uh there's nothing.
>> We We cut it short cuz we could have we could have pulled up with them every game, but we thought no, we'll just we'll just put a few in there. So, >> going for 10 minutes.
>> Yeah. And that was just this year, by the way, so far.
games. Come on. The Bulldogs play.
>> But you know what I reckon is when you had the mo that gorgeous mustache, you were quite calm.
>> I should get it back.
>> Yeah. Put it back. But look, you're not alone there cuz we got two uh thugs sitting next to you. This one here, this is Matty. Obviously, when he's got a little bit of niggle.
>> Not a thug.
>> Look at this.
>> Watch this. Trying to get into him.
>> Stick it up. Stick it up.
for the brother.
>> And Nathan, of course, absolute grub on the field.
>> There's wrestling.
>> And look at this. Watch his bloke. Just kicking him willy-nilly. Get out of here.
>> Look at him. And this one here. Look at him. Drops the ball.
I didn't say anything to him, but all of a sudden drops a ball on my head.
Fat little Westy.
>> Look at him winged.
>> Oh, MATE.
>> Are we finishing?
>> Look at that.
>> That's what you're going through. You've Susan Bo.
Hey, we might we might have had a little bit of niggle in us, but we weren't out in our pricks. Like, look. Have a look at this. This is This is you here. What?
This is your sort of stuff. This is not This is above niggle. Have a look at this.
>> What happened?
They ran into my >> That was a reaction.
>> That was a reaction.
I did the head slam.
>> It wasn't that WASN'T >> Oh man, >> I was looking through anyway.
>> Great crowd.
>> Oh, >> I'll be worried about our man.
So our viewers at home, we had a man sitting there in a Where's he gone, Philby?
>> Is he gone? H got him.
>> Oh, he got [ __ ] >> Did he? He's done a good job, mate, to get kicked out of here. No one gets kicked.
>> No one gets kicked out of here.
>> Unless you're Oh, no. What is that? Now it's time for the Red Bull highf flyer OF THE ROUND. AND uh this is performance under pressure apparently. And it goes to Sufa Longo.
He was unbelievable in Melbourne Storms.
One just ahead of Jamal Fogerty who was terrific mate. As a sewer was just an amazing performance. Uh ran for just about I think it was nearly 300 me.
>> He's had he's had a he's had an outstanding season.
>> I love the goosey. The goosey is just >> is he is he that fast coding?
>> Yeah, he's quick.
>> Very quick.
>> It's the age of like the short fullback like you got him, you got Joy Gray, you got to picky >> mate. Just a great crop of small feriny.
>> Yeah.
>> Who else you got?
>> Uh, let me just try.
>> You mentioned >> drink water. Drink water.
>> Drinky. Drink. Not a big man.
>> Trey Fuller.
>> Trey Fuller.
>> They all have one thing in common.
>> What's that?
>> They can't tackle.
>> Yeah, that's why they play fullback.
>> Uh, now we're going to take a break. Up next, we got Hammer Goodman. Stay with us.
Let's >> go through it.
One of the things that I love is the opportunity to pull off a oneofone experience.
But you can never dream of something like this.
So to have a fight on the White House lawn on the 250th birthday of America, >> never happened before, never going to happen again. Everything about this makes this the most historic sporting event of all time.
>> Welcome back. Welcome back to the show.
Hey, boys.
We found our man. Our man that disappeared. He's back.
>> We uh we won't say what we found him doing, but he's back. Uh let's have a look at the ladder after 13 rounds of the competition. Penri Panthers on top four point split ahead of that and the cut off point six. You just always see this time of the year the uh the congestion in the middle of the table. A good month of football gets you in the top eight. Bad couple of weeks and you're out of it. So it's going to be a tight competition this year. Hammy Goodman, welcome.
>> How you going?
>> I'm going good. Tigers had a win of course. So great weekend. Good weekend.
Not as good as 50 odd sports punters today though. You were talking about the the same score in the the Dragons Broncos game last few years. We had 50 punters pick the exact score today.
>> 26 to the Broncos, 30 to the Dragons.
Paint anywhere between 250 to 300 to one. So, >> well done to those punters.
>> You're getting paid this week.
>> We'll have to wait and see. Seven.
>> Big seven. How about this crowd by the way?
Never seen a bunch of Dereks in my life.
>> Uh, how many people having a crack?
>> Yes. Uh, sports of course one out for having a crack and obviously you're a huge IPL fan, Matt. You you'll be pulling an all nighter tonight for the for the final of course to speak.
>> Yeah, >> you would have seen this earlier in the week. Ver Coley Travis head had a crack at shaking his hand after the game. Just watch this. Here he comes and he completely brushes him for a handshake.
Poor old Travis head. Here we go from the side. The slow-mo there. Rushes >> in. Chris.
>> Bad form. Bad form. But it did get me thinking of some of the the more awkward handshakes that we've seen over the years. So, let's have a quick trick down memory lane. Uh, very intimate one here.
John, a couple of the the here and Conte getting into it. Couple of Supercross riders. Don't try that one at home. Uh, here we go. This was in Monday Night Football. Might as well just grab that little manu there for Richard. Must be nice. Bubba Watson there getting brushed in the M. Look at this folks. I don't know who he supports, but come on. Get around me. All right, I'll just amuse myself. And my personal favorite, uh, Jazz and Cooper.
Yeah.
>> Now, I know what you and probably thinking. How can you possibly have an awkward handshake compilation and not include one man? I thought he deserved his own. So Jake Juke, friend of the show, over to you for some of your best crushing Tommy Deing Dez Adler.
>> A little bit of the old take my strong hand there with M.
And I don't know what this is. Have a look at this with David. What is going on there?
I don't know if we can show that with his blind spot.
>> Well, just on Jakey. Obviously, we had a magic round. We had pizza gate. Well, he's at it again. Watch him just jam this hot dog into his north and south.
Here he is on the side. Watch him just go in. Watch him engulf this.
>> Oh, yes. Good on you, Jakey. So, I'm thinking if you're out at the footy and you see Jake on the sideline and you and you take a video of him eating, send it into us and uh play.
Good man, Jake. He's a good >> I tell you what he's do. He's commentary. He's very mate. Outstanding.
>> Very good.
>> Uh now, uh title.
>> Yes. Title. I thought after what we saw this afternoon, the Panthers might have firmed up a little bit. They rested a few BS. They still knocked off the Warriors who were second, but they're 255 to win the comp. Very, very short.
The Warriors, despite the loss, second line of betting. The big sliders this week with the Broncos uh up their loss to the Dragons. 15 bucks out to $19 now.
Uh the Roosters had a little slide as well off their second loss in a row.
>> Top four, Hammy.
>> Top four. I reckon the Warriors and the Panthers, they're just about in. So I reckon there's two spots up for grabs in the top four. The Roosters and the Knights are in there at the moment. I reckon the Dolphins are the one to watch though. They've been great since JMK came back. Jack Bostock as well. Few players in Origin. $310. I reckon they're the one to watch.
>> Least amount of wins.
>> Well, I was going to do Dragons next win, but they won today. So we've had to change up to the uh to the least. Still very very short for the wooden spoon, but they're only one win behind the Titans. They were 10 bucks earlier today. The Titans into $5 now. So, a little bit of something to look forward to maybe for the Dragons. Uh it's been a pretty tough year for >> a question. You put you like frame that as lease wins. Why aren't we allowed to have wooden spoon of the year with the >> that be the storm? Remember what happened there?
>> That's true.
>> They had the spoon, but they >> bulldogs one as well.
>> There's been a few of those. Didn't know that either. Just dotting the eyes and crossing the table.
>> Yeah. Right. But we can still call them the wooden spoon.
>> We can still call them spoon. Sure. At least on it.
>> At least winners.
>> Yeah. Yeah. It's a nicer way to put it anyway.
>> It is nicer. Where did the wooden spoon come from? Where where did the >> ask question research pinched it from another sport?
>> Yeah. You did you ever get hit as a kid with a wooden spoon?
>> I was taught by the uh the nuns and they they just they they loved it. They sick for it. And if you're a real heckos, you got on a mangle on the side.
>> Yep. The old miss. Boom. Up the other end. Fantastic.
>> Uh now, uh mainly a house.
>> Uh yeah, Thursday night game. The little bit of a wobble for Fos the other day.
They'll be back at home on Thursday night against Cody, your your Rabbidos.
I reckon your value there. $255. No LRO Mitchell, but uh yeah, that'll be a great game on Thursday.
>> Cody, great to have you on, mate. THANK YOU.
WE JUST HEARD from the old man Gary Johns. He said, "If you don't get a contract, it's just not going to have you." Just mate, uh Liam's up there. Uh night. Yeah, >> Liam Knight's up there playing for not going in. It's going great.
>> Killing it. Uh Hammy, final word to you.
What do you think we'll catch Jake eating next?
>> Oh jeez. I want to be careful here. I might defer to Fletch.
>> Don't say >> kebab.
>> Kebab. He's got a kebab.
>> Nice. Nice. Have a good one. We'll see you Thursday night.
