1AM Pour. 8AM Finish.Added:
Cool. So, mud at 1:00 a.m. Then >> 1:00 a.m. Yes, sir.
>> Yeah.
>> 7 hours later.
>> 8 a.m. We're already starting to get a little bit of a shine on it here.
>> What's up, guys? Welcome to Rocky's Road Show right here on Deco Creek TV. Today, or tonight, it's 12:30 a.m. We're in Springfield, Missouri. We're going to hang out with the guys from Nice Concrete Construction. Zeb Nie and his boys and crew. We're here in Springfield, Missouri. They're going to pour 30,000 some odd square feet slab and it's an addition to I think they said 160 some odd thousand total that they did something like that. Either way, it's a huge pour. We're going to do it tonight. We're going to go hop in the mud with these guys. They're actually from my Miami is how I would say it being a Miami Indian, but I think they call it Miami, Oklahoma. Either way, that's where they're from somewhere in Oklahoma. They travel all over the world, it seems like, but today they're in Springfield and we're going to go hop in the mud. It's freezing. It's night time. We're going to go pour some concrete.
All right. So, you see kind of what's going on here.
So, I think he said this was 160,000 square foot all together. Today, we're pouring about 30,000 square foot of it.
So, they have all the rest of this all done.
It looks really good. They got all their box outs for all the columns.
Anchor bolts are all set and poured.
It's looking good. Obviously, we'll check this out again when the sun comes out. Hopefully, I assume we'll still be here by the time the sun comes out, but start to get building set.
And then this is what we got for it to tackle to date.
So, everything obviously done to spec.
You know, I'm sure everything's been inspected.
gone through. Checked out. We got some picking edges here.
>> Yeah.
>> How's it going, Z? How are you?
>> There's the man himself right there.
>> Yeah. So, how's it going? Everything ready to go?
>> Uh, for the most part.
>> Yeah.
>> Getting a few little uh punches of stuff, but we're ready to roll.
>> Cool.
>> It's looking good. So, this is the last of it, then?
>> This last of this one? Yeah. Yeah. How long you been on this job?
>> Uh we've been here, believe it or not, probably about 6 months. We've had a lot of uh design changes, >> you know. Oh, yeah.
>> They've had a lot of They've had a lot of delays.
>> I understand 100%. Yep. You guys do all the footers?
>> We did all the footing. We've done it all.
>> Nice. Nice.
>> Heck yeah. It's looking good. You'll be glad to get this one.
>> We're ready to get this one knocked down. Yeah. Move on to the next. Yeah.
>> Cool. So mud at 1:00 a.m. then >> 1 a.m. Yes, sir.
>> Yeah.
>> Awesome. Laser Street. That's all you guys or?
>> Yeah.
>> So, how many how many guys do you have >> right now? We've actually only got about 16 17 guys.
>> No kidding.
>> Yeah.
>> Wow.
>> So, we we uh >> you guys are bust and bust.
>> We we need more help obviously like everybody else, we struggle with the skilled skilled guys.
>> Absolutely.
>> You know, and uh we've got a great team right now. You know, a lot of these guys are uh young and they're and they're uh they're learning. They're just like a sponge. It's really cool to see cuz for so many years it was all a bunch of old guys, you know, and now it's kind of changing, you know, and so it's it's been fun to see these these younger guys take interest in it. And uh >> it's good when you get the younger guys that want to because it's today it's not it's not common.
>> It's not that. Yeah. So, >> and you know, we're fortunate where we're at. We've got we've got some uh vote some trade schools.
>> Yeah.
>> It's one of your guys.
>> Yeah. This is my action.
>> Okay. Nice to meet you.
>> Hi, Rocky.
>> Nice to meet you.
>> What's your name?
>> Mason.
>> Mason. Are you on Is he on the page, too? The concrete page. Uh >> concrete everything page.
>> I'm on that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Right on. Nice.
>> Heck yeah. Cool.
>> Yeah, it's cool. I got my oldest son, Mason. And then I got my middle son, John. He's actually sick. He's got a problem trying to roll in, but uh >> No kidding. So it truly is a family operation.
>> It is. Yeah. And what's cool is I'm a second generation.
>> Yeah.
>> Training the third generation.
>> Amazing. I love that. I'm a third gener.
So >> Well, and that's and it's you know you know what the it's not common. And uh make sure all this is going to be fun, man. I'm excited. So >> cool.
>> We're looking good weather today. Of course, we got this wind.
>> Yep. What do we got for mix?
>> Uh, this is a 4,000. Um, we do have a half a percent of NCA hot water.
>> Yeah.
>> And, uh, we finished this slab a couple days ago. It's a little bit cooler. We had uh same mix, same everything.
>> Okay.
>> But, uh, we we started at 1:00. We didn't we didn't we didn't pull off this slab with the saws till about 8:30 that night.
So, all right, we got the lens out here, ready to go.
Got two of them ready to knock it out.
He's going through and he's putting all these marks. That'll be what they pour as they come down. That'll be each section across.
They'll pour across to each line. And what that is, it's the reach on that laser screen. So they can primarily keep the wheels out of the mud and stay out of it so it can reach and pull it all the way down. And then they'll do the next strip down to the paint marks all the way down. Screw it off and so on. So all the columns are heavily fortified and all the reenter corners.
It's all to spec. I'm sure this is all done from a blueprint. So that's what engineers drew up and Zeb and his crew executed it to the tea.
Got all the big hair pin bar.
They tie in. They wrap the column and they come all the way out.
All right, we're waiting on mud.
Do my best. Ryan Thomas. Mud's here.
My best Rick Thomas caps here.
Yeah.
Gonco the mud.
>> Check out that bull. Yeah, guys. I've worked for in the past have been real sticklers on keeping this edge clean. And Zeb was telling me earlier that they typically tape and plastic that off, but the moisture, you can see how moist and wet this concrete is right now. The tape wouldn't stick. So, he just knew that he's going to have to have a couple guys right here monitoring this, keeping that edge clean all the way down. So, I love that though. It's that attention to detail right there, boys. So, you got Zeb right here. He's checking the laser.
He's checking that to make sure that that is on where it needs to be. So, and if not, now's the time they'll adjust those right there, the eyes, and get it perfect. All right, guys. So, I kind of like this. So, I've done this, but I want to point this out. It's pretty cool. You just use your turnbuckles as kickers, and then you can adjust it as need be. Especially on a job like this where you may set forms and they may sit here for a week or two cuz you know you're going to set the whole thing and then pour pour pour. So some of these forms may be here for a while. So days later you need to be able to come back and tweak those. So this is a great way to do that. I really like that.
All right, pass number two is about done.
He's went down and made a real nice crisp clean edge all the way down. Kept it nice and clean.
You see they got two guys here going along with the laser screen putting in the chairs for the wire rather than put them all in everywhere and then everybody walks on them, steps on them, pushes the wire back down, they're just going right behind the laser screen and putting them in. So as that screed goes along, they're going behind them, putting them in, raising them that up that pump and come back here and start pouring. So theoretically should keep that wire where it needs to be. Look at that, guys. There's something you can appreciate the owner of the company hitting edges.
That's cool.
That's something we can all respect a little bit, right?
Okay. So, one more pass and we're halfway, right, Mason? That what you said? One more pass. Gain it. Where are we at? How many yards an hour have we been?
>> Averaging 90.
>> About 90 yards an hour. Not bad.
You said that uh they got another pour.
The plant's going to start to pick up another four right now, right? So they might have >> Yeah, they I think they slow down 30 another.
>> Okay.
>> But they got they got the other plans taking care of it. So as long as they keep the same amount of trucks on us and pulling out of Republic over here, we should be should be consistent about the same. I hope it don't slow down.
>> Sure.
>> Steadyy's good.
>> Steadyy's good.
>> Steadyy's good.
>> Steady.
>> All right, we got two riders on. We got the two 10footers on right now.
Yeah, maybe I won't be here till 8:30.
>> Yeah, I was going to say it's moving right along.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Already got fans on half of it at least.
Yeah. So, >> yeah.
>> Get to go to Chili's early. Yeah.
>> You already got that on the mind, huh?
>> Yeah.
What do you think, Jeb?
>> Yeah. Starting to come along, huh?
Already got fans on more than half of it.
>> Yeah, about halfway now.
>> It might not be a 7:00 night.
>> You know, I might have misjudged that.
Yeah, it might be a little closer.
>> Yeah, the sun's going to come out here in a little bit and it's going to probably all go one time.
>> Yep. That's how it works.
>> That's how it goes. Yeah, we may be regretting that half a percent. Yeah.
Well, like Mason said, it's uh quicker to chilling that way.
>> Yeah, that's true. Absolutely.
>> Yeah.
>> So, is he buying?
>> I don't know. I don't know. We just keep talking about chilies. Okay.
>> Everything is relative to how soon we get so >> that works for me.
>> Yeah.
Got another walk behind here. Got the boring on there.
That's a bad dad right there.
It's 8 a.m. We're already starting to get a little bit of a shine on it here.
I like that they run that tight edger on the the construction joint there.
One of my best friends, Josh Higgins, when I worked with him, he he always had us do that and really make them real clean and nice. Okay, so here's here's the other heir to the throne around here. So, are you the youngest?
>> Yes, sir. Uh, middle child.
>> Middle child.
Okay. Youngest son and the younger sister, right? All right. So, what how do you fit in there? Just like everybody else, everything.
>> Uh, pretty much.
>> What do you like to do the most?
>> I like getting on the skates.
>> Yeah, >> mostly.
>> Yeah, been doing that quite a while.
>> Right on.
>> One of my favorite things to do.
>> Right on. He's becoming a pretty good machine operator, too.
>> Yeah.
>> Good on the rider. walk behind >> that sun come out and it's really starting to pop I imagine with that 1%.
>> What was your pour schedule? Where did what what was first?
>> We poured here first.
>> Okay.
>> Then 1 2 3 4 5 6.
>> Okay.
Those are those are about three 30,000 square foot pores there. This one was 10.
>> These are about 30.
>> And this was 8 in all the way through.
>> These are all 8 in. This was a heavy duty. It had dow baskets. Real real heavy gauge wire.
>> Yeah.
>> Um it was it was it was pretty heavy duty.
>> Last poured it on the windiest day of the year.
>> Oh, no kidding. Oh, it was like 40 mph wind. It was tough. Did >> you have to use a lot of fishing aid?
>> We did. Yeah, we had to use it. Yeah.
>> 145 down to the last couple machines.
All right, there it is. Last machine off. What? 3:24.
>> 320. You said 3:30.
>> What' you say? Right.
>> I said 3.
>> I was 530. So way >> I'm glad it's 330, though. Yeah.
>> Heck yeah.
>> Everything went smooth. Good quarter day, right? So it ended up to be what?
How many total yards?
>> 570, I believe.
>> 570. Everything went real good. Looks real good.
>> What's your guys' take?
>> Well, we're thankful there were nice weather.
>> Yeah. you know, perfect day to pull concrete.
Plenty of everything. So, success the last one of the big flat work on this job. So, >> one more facet of it wrapped up and on to >> All right, guys. Well, it's been a lot of fun. I appreciate you having >> There we go.
>> All right, guys. There you have it. It's been fun here in Springfield, Missouri.
And on to the next one.
