The Supreme Court plays a crucial role in checking presidential authority by ruling on the limits of executive power, as demonstrated by cases like the 7-2 decision upholding federal regulations on ghost guns and the unanimous rejection of President Trump's sweeping tariffs, which the Court found lacked proper legal authority.

SCOTUS cases bring presidential power to forefrontAdded:
Several Supreme Court cases are being heard this year, many with big implications for immigration, civil rights, and the power of the president still waiting to be decided. Let's go to Morgan Stevens with the fact check team.
Starting with a look back at the rulings uh that were decided so far by the Supreme Court. One that stands out to me, obviously the Supreme Court justices striking down President Trump's global tariffs. That was a big one.
>> Yeah, that was a huge one. Uh it's really been a busy year uh for the high court. One of the most notable rulings involved ghost guns. Those are firearms that can be assembled from kits and are often difficult to trace. In a 7 to2 decision, the court upheld federal regulations requiring serial numbers and background checks for those kits. The court also cited against President Trump's sweeping tariffs, finding that the law he used did not give him broad authority. He claimed to impose th those import taxes. And in a unanimous decision last year that continues to resonate this term, the justices rejected Mexico's lawsuit against US gun manufacturers, saying the federal law generally shields gun makers from liability for crimes committed with their products.
>> Seems like a general theme here as we take a step back is presidential power in some way, right? In all of these cases, >> yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And there's a few. I mean the first the court has shown really a willingness to take on cases that sit at the center of America's biggest cultural and political debates from immigration to transgender rights to guns. Second, many of the biggest cases this term deal with the limits of government or presidential power. Whether it's presidential authority, federal agencies, or state laws, the justices are repeatedly being asked to decide who gets to make the rules. We saw this when they ruled on Trump's authority to create those sweeping tariffs. We're seeing in real time how the courts continue to play a big role here in American politics, making decisions that have national consequences.
>> All right, it should be an interesting June. Morgan, thank you. And for more on this Factor Team topic, including links to their sources, scan the QR code or visit the nationales.com.
