Bricks & Minifigs $200,000 LEGO Scandal #lego #lawyer #bricksandminifigsAdded:
Imagine spending 15 years building the world's largest sealed Star Wars Lego collection with your 83-year-old father.
You take it to a national franchise dedicated specifically to buying, selling, and consigning Lego. Then one day, the corporate parent walks in, takes over the store, and announces that your collection now belongs to them. The new owners refuse to give it back. The police won't help because they say it's a civil matter. The corporate office tells you to sue them knowing that you can't afford it. and the entire collection slowly disappears set by set, sold off to other customers while you watch. For about 15 months, this dispute went nowhere publicly. Enter Reckless Ben Schneider drove 16 hours from Los Angeles with a small crew and a pair of spy camera glasses. He confronted the store manager. He drove to BAM corporate headquarters in Utah and confronted the CEO in person. He recorded everything and then he ran five legal maneuvers in sequence. Schneider registered an Oregon corporation called We Steal from Old People. He created multiple franchises mirroring BAM's franchise structure. He printed signage that swapped the bricks and minifigs name and physically placed his signage over the actual storefront signage. Schneider walked into the store dressed as a delivery driver carrying a clipboard. He asked the manager, Amanda, to sign for the delivery, but the document she signed was not a delivery receipt. It was a 10-year contract barring her from trespassing him from the property with $5,000 in liquidated damages for every police call she made about him. The Bricks and Mini Figs brand is publicly associated in collector communities with the phrase, "We stole a family's life savings." And on the other side of it, you have an 83-year-old man whose life savings have been sold off set by set while courts and police told his son there was nothing they could do. Institutional legal process failed. Brian Mansel, I'll be watching this one. The criminal investigation is pending. The civil suits are pending. The set aside motions are pending. Schneider is hiding in Mexico. None of this is over.
