Meteorologist Travis Meyer from the Bob Mills Weather Center explains that warm temperatures without late-season freezes have accelerated wheat harvest timing, creating challenges for farmers who need dry conditions for harvesting. The forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the 80s, a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms, and a wet week with 2-3+ inches of rain expected in southwestern Oklahoma, which hasn't received rain in 6 months. The forecast also notes that moisture is moving northward from the east and south, affecting different regions differently.

[music] >> From the Bob Mills Weather Center, the Oklahoma Weather Expert, Travis Meyer.
Well, you know, not only is it Memorial Day weekend, but it's also time for harvest. Uh this is a look at a crop south of Muskogee on row farms. And as the uh statement goes, the waving wheat sure smells sweet. Kind of going back to Rogers and Hammerstein.
Uh it's just one of those things that is just really If you grow up with it, it's pretty cool. If you don't grow up with it, you just kind of go by it and go, "I don't know what that is. Looks all dead." But anyway, that's wheat. That's where a flower comes from, and that's where your bread comes from, basically.
Anyway, we're trying to get it harvested because it's a little early this year just because of the fact that it's been so it was so warm that we didn't have any real late season freezes, so nothing slowed it down, so it took off and grew fast. Well, today we ended up with a wonderful day, and the big thing right now is the fact we don't want to really any rain on the wheat. We wanted the rain on the wheat before that, but uh not getting any help right now because more rain is on the way. At least a few of the uh flags, Old Glory, whipping in the wind right now. There is a bit of a breeze out of the southeast in a few areas. It's been an active day at Gathering Place as well. A lot of folks have been out and about. Still We still have a lot of folks. There's a few clouds around, so it looks cloudy and gloomy, but it's not. Occasionally, sunshine pops right back on out. We're sitting at 87. Moisture content is going up ever so slowly. We're in the 80s at this time, mid-80s across much of the area. Uh by morning, we'll have some low clouds or not low clouds. We have a few clouds coming in. We'll be in the 60s.
And then as we start to work through the daytime hours, there is a slight chance of pop-up isolated shower, maybe a thunderstorm. Better chances would be during the afternoon, and then that should die down a tad bit before kicking up big time on Wednesday into Thursday.
So, across the Sooner State, partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the 80s still, 90 out to the west of us. By morning, we're in the 60s. Then during the day, it's got a moisture coming in from the east, moisture coming in from the south, some showers and storms. In fact, uh Dallas got hit hard just in over the last 3 or 4 hours of really heavy rainfall. Uh And some of that moisture is moving northward. So, we'll see a chance of rain a few showers a few thunder rumbles of thunder mainly south and west of Tulsa. Then on Wednesday, we'll have some hit miss storms. Notice we're still in the 80s, 70s out west.
Again, right now wheat harvest trying to get going so you're trying not to have a whole lot of rain. But, this is a wet week. So, there's a pretty good chance of off and on rain. Not everybody's going to pick up a ton of rain, but you're going to have a daily chance of rain. This is from Thursday to Friday now. So, you get the general idea it's like it's not going anywhere real fast.
No. And in fact, southwestern Oklahoma has a chance of 2 to 3 or more inches of rain where it hasn't rained for 6 months. So, it's good, but it's just kind of timing is just kind of weird.
So, our rain chances are just kind of hanging in there as we work our way through tomorrow. Basically, starting tomorrow into tomorrow night. Then they really bump up as we get into Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Hopefully, with our Chamber of Commerce weekend coming up because we have just some small cap little cruise thing going on where there's thousands of antique cars. Uh we will have to dodge a few showers a few thunderstorms, but overall it shouldn't be too bad. So, here's our forecast.
Overall, looks good, but you will have to dodge a rain. And our temperatures are great. Very mild. It's warm, but it's not cool. It's just kind of right in between. Kind of like it right in there. Uh but dodging the rain is the only thing that is going to be a bit of a problem just because it is especially going to be a little bit more of an obvious issue as we start to get closer to the weekend and we have all these antique cars coming in and everybody getting set up. I think I believe where we're going to be out there live on Thursday night. And then on Friday it's big day and Saturday the big day. The big day. There's a
