NTSB Commences Hearing on Kentucky UPS Jet Crash

[00:00:01]And the crash of a UPS jet in November 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky is the focus of a two-day meeting of the National Transportation Safety Board that starts today.

[00:00:11]The cargo plane was headed to Hawaii from the Louisville Airport when it suddenly crashed after takeoff. The fiery crash spread flames and wreckage for half a mile. 14 people died including the three crew members who were on the plane. The NTSB hearing will include witness testimony and representatives of UPS, Boeing, the FAA, and the pilots union. A preliminary NTSB report showed a failure of a pair of structural fittings that kept the left engine attached to the wing. The 34-year-old jet had three engines total.

[00:00:44]Just a few days after the crash, the FAA grounded all MD-11 planes for inspections. Last week, they were brought back into service. UPS has announced it will no longer use MD-11 jets. FedEx has already resumed some of its flights with repaired and expected planes.
