She has been convicted of poisoning and murdering her husband Eric and they have been fighting so hard to get this sentencing date changed. Why?

[00:04:52]But the prosecution today filed some very emotional uh information from her sons.

[00:05:04]Uh, and we'll get into it. We'll read it and and I'll tell you more about it. But uh one of her sons is talking about how he is terrified that if his mother gets out she'll come for them and another one of her sons wears his father's clothing so he to school so he can feel closer. I mean this woman is a a monster of epic proportions and I am so glad the judge was having none of this. We need to move up the court date cuz she has three lawyers and one of the lawyers wouldn't be able to be there tomorrow. Well, she has two other lawyers for God's sakes.

[00:05:44]You know, they don't need three lawyers there. She doesn't need three lawyers. I don't know what circumstances they can ever bring up that will uh lead the judge to say, "Yeah, we're going to we're going to give you uh a chance at parole, a chance at another life." Sorry, I'm still getting dressed.

Uh there's a case of a 16-year-old who got together with her 29-year-old boyfriend and just thought it'd be a good idea to murder her whole family. We're going to talk about that. There is a little bit of an update in the Nancy Guthrie case.

[00:08:25]Nothing earthshattering, just that um some people believe that they're withholding evidence on purpose.

[00:08:32]That they're not saying anything and there's a reason for it. I I think the reason is they don't have anything.

[00:08:40]That's just my theory. But um Stacy, did you have a chance to go over any of these uh the documents that the prosecution filed today?

[00:08:49]>> Oh, Corey Richens.

[00:08:50]>> Yes. Yeah. Um, yeah, like that there's the sentencing requests and stuff I went through.

[00:08:58]>> Um, any any thoughts on I'm going to what I'm going to do is I'm going to People magazine has a great article that uh kind of encapsulates everything. So, I'm going to read that first and then I'll come back to you and uh we do have the uh the documents and we'll we'll post it in our uh well, they're actually posted on webs.com and I'll get that linked for you in just a moment. Uh, People magazine. Here we go. Corey Richen's sons say they fear she'd hurt them if freed from prison and they're asking for a life sentence. Okay. Now, Corey Richen's three sons are asking that their mother be sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted her of murdering their father, Eric Richens, in 2022.

[00:09:40]I'm afraid if she gets out, she will come after me and my brothers, my whole family. I think they would come and take us and not do good things to us like hurt us, says Corey's 13-year-old son, CR, in a sentencing memo filed by the prosecution and obtained by People, and that was today. CR also notes in the memo that he misses his dad, but he does not miss how his life used to be or his mother. Doesn't miss his mother. That's very interesting.

[00:10:09]Cory's 11-year-old son, AR, voices similar concerns in his statement. He says, "I don't want my mother out of jail because I will not feel safe if she is out." AR says in the memo, "With her in jail, I'll be able to continue to feel safe and live a happy and successful life without fear of her hurting me or anyone I love." The younger of Cory's three sons, 9-year-old WR, says that he is afraid of his mother, who went to jail when he was just 5 years old. He says that if she got out, I would be so scared and is worried that she would take me away.

[00:10:47]WR also adds that once his mother is gone, it will allow him to feel happy and safer and he'll be able to trust people more per the memo.

[00:10:58]All three boys also speak about their father who died in March of 2022 at the age of 39 after prosecution alleged his wife spiked his drink with a lethal dose of fentanyl. "My dad was a good person and very thoughtful and kind and helpful whoever needed help," CR says in the memo. "Why someone talks about Corey?

[00:11:18]When someone talks about Corey, it makes me feel hateful and ashamed. She took away my dad, says W.

[00:11:27]Ar notes that his father cannot be his coach anymore and can't be at any of his games, will never be at one of his birthdays and can't teach him how to drive. His father will also not get to see him graduate, he says, adding that he can't take him camping or fishing.

[00:11:46]Prosecutors also say in the memo that if AR had testified at trial, he would have said under oath that his mother did not sleep in his bedroom on the night that his father died. A claim that was on that was an integral part of uh her defense. AR would have also testified that the night of his father's death, he and his brothers were sent to bed without being given a bath, which was unusual, and that the television was playing loudly inside his parents' bedroom. Prosecutors also allege that AR tried to sneak into his parents' room that night, but was caught and yelled at by his mother. Later, when WR tried to go to sleep in his parents' bed, as was customary, he found the door locked and got in bed with his brother AR instead.

[00:12:34]Instead, prosecutors said Richard's, 35, will be sentenced tomorrow, the same day her husband would have turned 44 and is facing the possibility of 25 years to life or life without parole after being convicted of aggre aggravated murder, attempted murder, and financial crimes.

[00:12:52]Now, she continues to deny playing any role in his death. I don't think there's going to be any question. I think this woman is absolutely flipping delusional if she thinks she's ever going to get a chance at life again. No, she needs to be absolutely behind bars for the rest of her life. So on page nine it says in the im immediate aftermath of the guilty verdict the defendant blamed a corrupt prosecution a corrupt judge an unfair Summit County jurors. Um so and then it tells you exhibit C 6 weeks following the guilty verdict the defendant text messaged an admirer and this was it. She says, "I will expose this county, the prosecution, the judge, the richens, the investigation, all of it. So, they can lock me away for now.

[00:17:06]That's fine. It's going to come back on them. It will come to an end. Not this year or next, but I'm not going away.

[00:17:15]I won't be silent. I am going to expose them all for what they have done to me.

[00:17:20]My kids, my family, this injustice. They picked the wrong one. They think sentencing is the end closure. It's just the beginning. They haven't seen anything yet.

[00:17:33]That's >> Oh, I mean, and that's just so damn arrogant, you know? That is so arrogant.

[00:17:39]>> Oh, and then it says after that, the most telling of her character, the defendant attacked Eric within hours of her arrest. She for the first time blamed Eric for his own death and then they have exhibits for it. Says from jail the defendant and her family engaged in quote open season on quote Eric the dead releasing what they believe to be damaging information about Eric to the media states memorandum opposing motion to suppress letter.

[00:18:13]During trial, the defendant falsely accused Eric of having an affair with a co-orker and a homosexual affair with one of his best friends.

[00:18:22]Let's see. And then it says, "Many of the defendant's attacks against the Richens family permeate the record. For example, she throat punched Amy Richens two days after murdering Eric when Amy informed her of the Eric Richens living trust and Eric created the trust, you know, to protect her and their children.

[00:18:46]>> Well, basically to protect her children.

[00:18:49]>> Yeah.

[00:18:50]>> To protect make sure her ch his children got >> their fair share so she couldn't go in and just yank it all. Yeah. That that is a great uh this is a great document that the prosecution put together. And one thing I I know everybody's wondering, well, what happened to the kids? Well, according to the prosecutor, Katie and Clint are now raising three boys and that requires extraordinary love, support, and stability.

[00:19:14]>> It's best for the boys and everyone is thriving. But Katie and Chris never planned for it. Katie never planned to administer an estate and a trust or tackle vindictive litigation. Jay never planned to work the family ranch at his age without Eric. Katie and Amy both live with guilt for not doing more to protect their brother from his wife. And I can just imagine how they must all feel. They shouldn't feel guilty because when you're dealing with a monster like Corey Richens, you can't outthink them because you're not like them. And so that's why these people can get away with murder for a little bit, but their arrogance usually uh comes back to bite them in the butt, you know. And so um yeah, I I again this document is amazing. I would encourage everybody to read it. I'm going to put >> Yeah.

Uh the gravity of the attempted aggravated murder is that the defendant learned from her mistakes. Now remember, she tried to kill him on Valentine's Day of 2022 and it didn't work. So that's what they're talking about here. She learned to obtain something stronger and to administer it in a way that prevented Eric from realizing the poison's effect until it was too late. The circumstances of the attempted aggravated murder are identical to the circumstances of the murder. The gravity and circumstances of the frauds and forgery uh punch above the cha charges weight. Read that again.

[00:22:20]That don't that didn't make sense. The gravity, what the heck? The gravity and circumstances of the frauds and forgery punch above the charges weight because they encompass the defendant's motive for murdering Eric. and um precurinary gain aggravator. The defendant's character are discussed and it gives where they can you discuss where they can discuss and read about the defendant's character. Anyway, her character is irredeemable. Accordingly, the defendant uh earned distinct punishment for counts two through five and the court should sentence them consecutive to any other sentence. In other words, one after the other after the other, not concurrently, so she would have a chance to get out. Again, I don't think there's any way in hell she's going to uh get anything but life without parole and all of her sentences will be consecutive. But in her mind, in her whatever psychologically damaged brain is going on there, whatever personality disorder she has, she's convinced herself that they that she will be believed. You know, she could be a narcissist or whatever, but she has Cory Richens has convinced herself that the judge will see through all of this and see that I'm this cute, adorable, wonderful little wife who would never do anything. Here she has her sons put in writing. All three of them are scared that their mother will get out and come and harm them. And I I don't even think that affects her. I don't even think she thinks, "Wow, that hurts my heart that my sons think that." No, I think she's probably thinking, "If I get out, I'd punish him." You know, I can just I can feel the hate and the horror coming from this woman. Oh, she is just awful.

[00:24:06]Absolutely awful. She probably probably is like they're brainwashed. They're turning them against.

[00:24:12]>> Not that she did that herself. And yeah, according to her though, you know, the judge is corrupt. So >> Oh, that's right. I forgot.

I can't imagine a anything they could say that would help in any way, shape, or form this uh her anybody could think. Now, it's going to be the judge deciding, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm glad for that. And uh and he's fair. I mean, he's not going to he's going to listen to both sides. he's going to hear what they have to say and uh he's he's going to come out with life without pearl. I mean, it's just so obvious when you read what the prosecution has. There is nothing the defense can say that can change that, that can mitigate that, that can dilute that in any way, shape, or form.

[00:25:18]>> Right. I totally agree with that because from everything I've read, there isn't any she can't claim abuse or anything like that. So there's nothing. She's it's you know. So yeah, >> it's just uh like mother like daughter.

[00:25:32]Her f her mother was accused of this but never charged because her partner also died in a way similar. And uh damn, you know, again I I I don't know much about her mother, but that is absolutely terrifying to me. When I heard that, I I couldn't believe it. You know, I tried to get caught up on this case uh a while ago, and when I started reading about Corey Richen's mom, I was like, "Oh my god, this family is a nightmare." And when Eric was dating her, didn't he know about the possibility of like the mother-in-law from hell? I I don't know.

[00:26:17]I I would like to know more about uh what he knew about her background before he married her. So, just have to wait and see. I don't know. Now, the story behind this is uh her mother married this kid's father and they all went on a cruise together and they shoved all the kids in a room together and she felt very uncomfortable around this kid and this kid had a thing for her. That was the problem. And uh she didn't have a thing for him. So, I don't know. It was um it was chilling. It was the murder was just shocking. You know, the parents have been getting a lot of criticism for putting all the boys and the girls together at that age, making them all sleep in one cabin, but we don't we don't know all the circumstances yet.

[00:33:55]Hopefully, we will, but yeah, he has been charged it now. He is being charged as an adult if I remember correctly. Is that right?

And uh here is Fox News North Carolina here that we're going to um play here to get us caught up today. And Webus has a great discussion going on about this case as well. [00:39:02]Well, that breaking news right now at 10:00 out of Western North Carolina. A 16-year-old girl arrested for the alleged murders of both of her parents and her grandmother. An adult man has also been charged in their deaths.

[00:39:17]Authorities tracked down both of them today in Tennessee. Deputies say those killings happened yesterday at a home in Fair View, North Carolina. We have it mapped out right here for you on your screen. That's also where we find Fox Carolina's Alexa with the latest on the investigation.

[00:39:34]Crime scene tape still hanging here on this fence just one day after deputies with the Bunkham County Sheriff's Office say they found three adults dead with gunshot wounds here in this trailer.

[00:39:45]Now, one of the suspects accused in their deaths, the victim's daughter and granddaughter. All four of them beloved by the community, leaving neighbors shocked.

[00:39:55]>> Her family was great to me. They treated me well. She was an amazing person to me.

[00:40:00]>> Sailor Tagner grew up next door to 16-year-old Star Grant and her parents, 41-year-old Travis Grant and 42-year-old Kimberly Grant. They treated me with like I was their own and it felt awesome.

[00:40:15]>> She says she met Star Grant in elementary school and the two quickly became friends.

[00:40:21]>> She would take care of me at at school.

[00:40:24]If like someone was bullying me or something, she would stand up for me.

[00:40:30]Um, if it's so weird that to expect my neighbor to do all that and someone I grew up with. I was at their house constantly.

[00:40:44]>> The same house where Travis and Kimberly Grant along with 66-year-old Sharon Grant were found dead Thursday. Deputies say they believe the victims had been dead for several days. Deputies say they were first called to the home Monday after a family member requested a welfare check, but no one answered the door. They returned Wednesday for another welfare check, then again Thursday evening when they were finally able to get inside. After finding the three victims, deputies realized 16-year-old Star Grant, who lived in the home with her parents, was missing.

[00:41:18]Deputies say they tracked her to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where she was found Friday morning with 28-year-old Devin Loving. The nature of their relationship is unknown at this time.

[00:41:28]>> We believe that they were there for um more than a few days. That's still under investigation. The the total length of time uh is part of our investigation.

[00:41:37]>> Deputies have not released a motive.

[00:41:39]Both suspects faced three counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Star Grant is being charged as an adult. Both suspects could face the death penalty.

[00:41:51]>> I didn't believe it. I just Cuz if you knew Star, she was a good kid. She'd come over here. She always had a dog with her.

[00:42:02]>> Sailor's dad, Keith, said Star was a familiar face around the neighborhood.

[00:42:06]>> Everybody that would drive by would wave to Star cuz they just knew her.

[00:42:10]>> Keith and Sailor say they are still trying to process what happened.

[00:42:14]describing Star and her parents as good people.

[00:42:17]>> I didn't know like how to feel. I just I felt kind of scared honestly.

[00:42:22]>> Suspects are expected to be extradited from Gatlinburg, Tennessee back to Bunkham County on Monday. Reporting in Bunkham County, Alexa, Fox Carolina News.

Once they told me that and I realized that my aunt and uncle were trying to put a restraining order on this man, I kind of put two and two together, you know. Um, she said that she believes the couple confronted their daughter after taking away her alleged burner phone.

[00:43:50]>> They were >> as soon as the parents found out about it, they were like, "No, this isn't happening. We're putting a restraining order on him." But court records confirm there wasn't one filed. So, >> so, okay, here we go. Oldest story in the book.

[00:44:05]>> Uh, teenager wants to go with an older guy. The parents, rightly so, are going, "No, this guy's a dirt bag."

[00:44:12]>> And, uh, "Sorry, honey. We We're not."

[00:44:14]And he wouldn't leave her alone. So, they're getting a restraining order, and they think, "Hey, why don't we just kill them? We're smart enough. We'll get away with it." Oh my god.

[00:44:23]>> I know. So bad.

[00:44:27]>> 16-year-old. again, she's got to suffer the consequences, but uh when you're under the influence of a much older guy like that, uh I hope they take that into consideration for her.

[00:44:40]But I, and maybe I'm wrong to say this, everyone, but there's got to be something wrong when a 16-year-old can be convinced to murder her parents and her grandmother. There's already got to be something in that brain that is not functioning right. I don't know. I could be wrong.

[00:45:02]>> They're both charged with three counts of murder and three counts of conspiracy and they are facing it could be life or it could be death. They haven't decided yet.

[00:45:11]>> Right. Right. And so yeah, we'll have to wait and see what happens there. But uh Oh god, it's just so bad. It is so bad.

Uh just depends on the witnesses. I I think they'll be witnesses tomorrow with the defense and with the prosecution. Uh, one thing that um I'm sure they're going to bring up is what the uh prosecutor brought up in the papers that were filed just today in the Corey Richen sentencing. And that is that if her son would have testified, um he would have testified and and absolutely contradicted what his mother was telling the court about uh where he slept and you know she made up this big lie and she used her she was trying to use her son to cover up her uh her crime and it it is just horrific. So, I think it's a good idea that we watch the sentencing tomorrow because it gives us a sense of of justice and a sense of relief to know that she's going to be going away for life. If she doesn't, I will be stunned. I can't imagine that Corey Richens is not going to go away for life. Okay, let's get to Nancy Guthrie now. And just to say tomorrow should tomorrow should be uh the victim impact statements.

[00:51:13]>> Very very emotional. Very emotional. So um okay. Now, there have been some things that are being said, and I I just want to throw this out there, that they are withholding evidence on purpose that by not coming out and stating anything, which is weird to me. So, um, now here here's the headline. Nancy Guthrie missing 100 days as expert suggests lack of updates could be strategic. Well, let's see who that is. Are you ready for this? Okay, this is from 13 News. And let's see here. Um, no, that's not it. Okay. It has been 100 days since Nancy Guthrie, the 84y old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her California Foothills home. And actually, that was yesterday, so it's 101 days. Now, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has not held a live briefing since February, but former FBI agent Scott um is Agenbomb says the lack of public updates is often strategic and does not mean the investigation has stalled. There are primary case agents that their sole responsibility is to see this case through. He said, "We're probably not going to really hear much until somebody is indicted. You don't want to tip off the hand the the hands to your suspect.

[00:52:42]>> If the suspect is out there now, you don't even want them to think anything is going on. So, what he is saying is, look, they might be hot on the case of a suspect, but they're not going to give any updates cuz they want this suspect to think that nothing is going on. It's boring. It's been 101 days. They've gotten away with it. Not to worry. That absolutely could be true.

[00:53:07]But I don't think for one second that's the case. I I I just don't I I after reading more and more about Sheriff Nanos and uh how things went on in the first three or four days of the investigation and the contradictions between the FBI and what he is saying, somebody is lying. And uh I I just think Sheriff Nanos is just too damn uh arrogant to admit that he did not have the ability to handle a case like this. And this was the most massive case that I have seen in probably a decade if not more as far as people discussing it on webs. That's a really good indication of the whole country when it is just non-stop 24/7 posting on webs. So the pressure he was under I'm sure was tremendous but he seems in my opinion to be incredibly arrogant. He doesn't uh want to bring anybody else in. He should have sent everything to the FBI lab at first which was free and like they say you know one of the best in the country.

[00:54:18]instead he sent it to the Florida lab and they sent it back and said, "Yeah, we can't do it."

[00:54:23]>> Well, that was a waste, you know, and then they had to send it to the FBI FBI lab anyway. But I guess there is a chance that maybe they're not tipping their hand because they want the suspect to think that everything's calm and they have no idea who he is or who they are.

[00:54:39]I don't think that's the case at all.

[00:54:41]>> I think in other cases it could be. Not in this case. Let's see what you Oh, go ahead, my dear.

[00:54:47]>> I was going to say in this case, I have no clue. It's Everything's been so crazy. But yeah, that's pretty standard in normal cases, you know, and especially I hate to say it, but if they're doing surveillance on someone >> Mhm.

[00:55:06]>> Yeah. That cuz they do not want to tip them off. And again, that could be I hope that's the case. I would love nothing more than to come on and say, "I was so wrong about this. I apologize.

[00:55:17]They knew what they were doing. They caught the guy. They they found Nancy. I would love nothing more to than to apologize." But I I agree with you, my dear. I think the sheriff has been very dishonest. Uh this is Ballotina, and I agree. I think he's been very very dishonest. So, it is uh it's just it it was bad. It was bad from day one there. I am sorry. This just is no way this should have gone on this long. We had video of the guy. Video.
