In criminal cases, victim impact statements from family members can significantly influence sentencing decisions, as demonstrated in the Corey Richins case where her three sons testified about their fear of her if released, contributing to the prosecution's case for a life sentence. The case illustrates how courts consider the ongoing safety and psychological impact on victims' families when determining appropriate sentences, particularly in cases involving domestic violence and murder.

All right. Old bat in a cowboy hat.
Super devo. How are you doing tonight everybody? My name is Trisha and those lovely pictures were from our lovely penguin. And I love this one that she uh sent to me. She said this is uh me and my twin and I'm the one with the big head. I think they're both adorable.
They're just a cute little babies and I did I get to this one? I think I did.
There. I believe that's them right there. Penguin, thank you so much for the adorable pictures. Oh, and I for this one I didn't get to. There we go.
Look at that sweet baby in that cute little costume. Is that supposed to be like a a fairy costume? What? He's the dog's going, "Why? Why do humans do this to us? Why?" Hey everybody, my name is Trisha Griffith and I am delighted that you're with us tonight on Webs YouTube live. Uh we've got a big court date tomorrow and that is the sentencing of Corey Richen. She has been convicted of poisoning and murdering her husband Eric and they have been fighting so hard to get this sentencing date changed. Why?
because it is on Eric Richen's birthday.
Ah, my headset is just all wacky here.
Uh, yeah, they didn't want that there.
But the prosecution today filed some very emotional uh information from her sons.
Uh, and we'll get into it. We'll read it and and I'll tell you more about it. But uh one of her sons is talking about how he is terrified that if his mother gets out she'll come for them and another one of her sons wears his father's clothing so he to school so he can feel closer. I mean this woman is a a monster of epic proportions and I am so glad the judge was having none of this. We need to move up the court date cuz she has three lawyers and one of the lawyers wouldn't be able to be there tomorrow. Well, she has two other lawyers for God's sakes.
You know, they don't need three lawyers there. She doesn't need three lawyers. I don't know what circumstances they can ever bring up that will uh lead the judge to say, "Yeah, we're going to we're going to give you uh a chance at parole, a chance at another life." Sorry, I'm still getting dressed.
So, still trying to get all fix fixed here. But, uh, I think it's going to be Life Without Pearl without without question. Now, let me ask you everybody.
It is going to be live stream tomorrow.
It starts at, I believe, 11:30 Eastern.
Do you want me to to stream it? Will you? And come to the chat. If you want me to stream the sentencing tomorrow.
Okay. And they're going it's the defense will present their case. Prosecution will present their case. I'm assuming the judge will give the uh sentence tomorrow as well. I would be happy to live stream it if you guys would like that. If you could just say in chat that yes, yes, you would like it live streamed and you would be here in chat.
I am happy happy to do that. So would uh anybody like me to uh live stream the Corey Richen sentencing tomorrow since it will be live streamed by Court TV.
Yay. We can open up the chat. And our chat isn't as busy as the other chats.
So that that's the good thing. Okay, we have one. Holly Deina says yes. And four sons mom says yes. We have two, ladies and gentlemen. We have two. Do I have three? Do I hear three? Going once.
Going try twice. Going three times. Do I hear three? With three people like me to live stream this tomorrow. Chipmunk says, "Okay, by golly, we'll live stream it tomorrow." Okay. So, we'll start um uh just a few minutes before uh the court opens up tomorrow. Okay. Again, 11:30 Eastern, I believe. Let me just double check here really quickly.
Uh hold on. Let me double check and make sure. But I believe that is the time frame that we are looking at.
And then I shall bring the lovely Stacy on board. So, let's see. S sent sensing tomorrow. Yeah. 10:30 a.m. my time. So, that's 11:30 Eastern. Okay. So, we'll do a live stream tomorrow starting at about uh about 11:15 Eastern. Okay. Now, let's bring up Stacy.
Stacy, my darling, how are you?
>> I'm doing good.
>> Good. Good. Good. We have had a busy, busy day today. I have a couple of cases we're going to talk about. Uh there's a case of a 16-year-old who got together with her 29-year-old boyfriend and just thought it'd be a good idea to murder her whole family. We're going to talk about that. There is a little bit of an update in the Nancy Guthrie case.
Nothing earthshattering, just that um some people believe that they're withholding evidence on purpose.
That they're not saying anything and there's a reason for it. I I think the reason is they don't have anything.
That's just my theory. But um Stacy, did you have a chance to go over any of these uh the documents that the prosecution filed today?
>> Oh, Corey Richens.
>> Yes. Yeah. Um, yeah, like that there's the sentencing requests and stuff I went through.
>> Um, any any thoughts on I'm going to what I'm going to do is I'm going to People magazine has a great article that uh kind of encapsulates everything. So, I'm going to read that first and then I'll come back to you and uh we do have the uh the documents and we'll we'll post it in our uh well, they're actually posted on webs.com and I'll get that linked for you in just a moment. Uh, People magazine. Here we go. Corey Richen's sons say they fear she'd hurt them if freed from prison and they're asking for a life sentence. Okay. Now, Corey Richen's three sons are asking that their mother be sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted her of murdering their father, Eric Richens, in 2022.
I'm afraid if she gets out, she will come after me and my brothers, my whole family. I think they would come and take us and not do good things to us like hurt us, says Corey's 13-year-old son, CR, in a sentencing memo filed by the prosecution and obtained by People, and that was today. CR also notes in the memo that he misses his dad, but he does not miss how his life used to be or his mother. Doesn't miss his mother. That's very interesting.
Cory's 11-year-old son, AR, voices similar concerns in his statement. He says, "I don't want my mother out of jail because I will not feel safe if she is out." AR says in the memo, "With her in jail, I'll be able to continue to feel safe and live a happy and successful life without fear of her hurting me or anyone I love." The younger of Cory's three sons, 9-year-old WR, says that he is afraid of his mother, who went to jail when he was just 5 years old. He says that if she got out, I would be so scared and is worried that she would take me away.
WR also adds that once his mother is gone, it will allow him to feel happy and safer and he'll be able to trust people more per the memo.
All three boys also speak about their father who died in March of 2022 at the age of 39 after prosecution alleged his wife spiked his drink with a lethal dose of fentanyl. "My dad was a good person and very thoughtful and kind and helpful whoever needed help," CR says in the memo. "Why someone talks about Corey?
When someone talks about Corey, it makes me feel hateful and ashamed. She took away my dad, says W.
Ar notes that his father cannot be his coach anymore and can't be at any of his games, will never be at one of his birthdays and can't teach him how to drive. His father will also not get to see him graduate, he says, adding that he can't take him camping or fishing.
Prosecutors also say in the memo that if AR had testified at trial, he would have said under oath that his mother did not sleep in his bedroom on the night that his father died. A claim that was on that was an integral part of uh her defense. AR would have also testified that the night of his father's death, he and his brothers were sent to bed without being given a bath, which was unusual, and that the television was playing loudly inside his parents' bedroom. Prosecutors also allege that AR tried to sneak into his parents' room that night, but was caught and yelled at by his mother. Later, when WR tried to go to sleep in his parents' bed, as was customary, he found the door locked and got in bed with his brother AR instead.
Instead, prosecutors said Richard's, 35, will be sentenced tomorrow, the same day her husband would have turned 44 and is facing the possibility of 25 years to life or life without parole after being convicted of aggre aggravated murder, attempted murder, and financial crimes.
Now, she continues to deny playing any role in his death. I don't think there's going to be any question. I think this woman is absolutely flipping delusional if she thinks she's ever going to get a chance at life again. No, she needs to be absolutely behind bars for the rest of her life. And let me get you to the web slleuth discussion here. And this is uh smelly squirrel. I love smelly squirrel has put a link to the sentencing memorandum and they've also uh typed up kind of a summary of it here and I'm going to put this in chat really quickly.
Here we go.
I'm sorry guys when I type it still sounds like I'm banging on bongo drums.
So I do apologize. In fact, I'm gonna mute myself for just a moment. Hang on.
Oops. Sorry. I thought I was muted still.
Oh no.
Chipmunk is smokechor.
She saw smoke coming from a neighbor's house up the hill. Sick in the worst. Oh no. I hope they're okay.
Your neighbors. Let's see.
Yeah. Truth be told, says, "Wearing his father's clothes reminds me of character Haley Joel Osman played in Six Sense."
I'm sad. Very sad.
Oh, I'm so sorry, Lindy. That's terrible.
Wait, we can't hear you.
>> Can you hear me now?
>> Yep.
>> Okay, good. Sorry, I muted myself on my mic. I didn't realize that. So, yeah, I was swearing and everything. I thought you guys could hear me. I'm glad I was muted. Okay, I put the link in chat uh to the webs discussion. I don't know why those links are 400 miles long and take take up two big, you know, squares in chat, but uh there's the link. So, you can go to there. You can check out websus.com in the discussion that they're doing on Corey Richens because it is amazing. And uh Stacy, can you make a thumbnail that just says sentencing Corey Richens and put um uh 11:15 uh Eastern?
>> Yes. And then uh I'll get up tomorrow and we'll just uh we'll start it. And like I said, the chat goes nice and slow and you can actually get a word in edgewise. And I am working on the pounding where I try and type because you can hear it. But >> I've worked I've got it to where other parts of my desk are not pounding. I just need to make sure the keyboard gets that way. So that's what I'm working on.
everybody.
>> Maybe a piece of foam underneath it.
>> Yeah, that's what I need to get. I'm going to get some of that um those egg carton foam things that they use in studios. I'll get that.
>> And they sell also the black uh kind of rubbery foam as well for computers and stuff too, >> right?
>> But so, >> um there's a couple things in the rich documents I wanted to read if that's okay.
>> Yes, please do. Please do >> because it's oh my gosh, it's just horrible. So on page nine it says in the im immediate aftermath of the guilty verdict the defendant blamed a corrupt prosecution a corrupt judge an unfair Summit County jurors. Um so and then it tells you exhibit C 6 weeks following the guilty verdict the defendant text messaged an admirer and this was it. She says, "I will expose this county, the prosecution, the judge, the richens, the investigation, all of it. So, they can lock me away for now.
That's fine. It's going to come back on them. It will come to an end. Not this year or next, but I'm not going away.
I won't be silent. I am going to expose them all for what they have done to me.
My kids, my family, this injustice. They picked the wrong one. They think sentencing is the end closure. It's just the beginning. They haven't seen anything yet.
That's >> Oh, I mean, and that's just so damn arrogant, you know? That is so arrogant.
>> Oh, and then it says after that, the most telling of her character, the defendant attacked Eric within hours of her arrest. She for the first time blamed Eric for his own death and then they have exhibits for it. Says from jail the defendant and her family engaged in quote open season on quote Eric the dead releasing what they believe to be damaging information about Eric to the media states memorandum opposing motion to suppress letter.
During trial, the defendant falsely accused Eric of having an affair with a co-orker and a homosexual affair with one of his best friends.
Let's see. And then it says, "Many of the defendant's attacks against the Richens family permeate the record. For example, she throat punched Amy Richens two days after murdering Eric when Amy informed her of the Eric Richens living trust and Eric created the trust, you know, to protect her and their children.
>> Well, basically to protect her children.
>> Yeah.
>> To protect make sure her ch his children got >> their fair share so she couldn't go in and just yank it all. Yeah. That that is a great uh this is a great document that the prosecution put together. And one thing I I know everybody's wondering, well, what happened to the kids? Well, according to the prosecutor, Katie and Clint are now raising three boys and that requires extraordinary love, support, and stability.
>> It's best for the boys and everyone is thriving. But Katie and Chris never planned for it. Katie never planned to administer an estate and a trust or tackle vindictive litigation. Jay never planned to work the family ranch at his age without Eric. Katie and Amy both live with guilt for not doing more to protect their brother from his wife. And I can just imagine how they must all feel. They shouldn't feel guilty because when you're dealing with a monster like Corey Richens, you can't outthink them because you're not like them. And so that's why these people can get away with murder for a little bit, but their arrogance usually uh comes back to bite them in the butt, you know. And so um yeah, I I again this document is amazing. I would encourage everybody to read it. I'm going to put >> Yeah.
>> Uh what were you going to say my dear?
>> Oh yeah, ex I agree. And the link to discussion is they have uh smelly squirrel has the document right there, >> right? It's the link I just got it from.
>> Yeah, it's the link I just put up right now. So, let me just shorten the link so I don't have to >> Let me just do this really quickly. Hang on.
>> That's another one you guys. If you ever want documents or something, you can go to websitus.com and look for it there.
>> Yeah, look for the discussion of whatever the case is. Whatever the case is, and they will have the uh documents right there. So, here we go. Now, I can type this normally.
There we go. Web oops. Oops.
We sloop. Okay.
We web slleuth uh richens discussion. Here we go. Okay. And again, we'll put >> punch to Amy >> in the throat. I know she's horrible.
>> She's like I said, the only thing way can describe her as a monster. She's just a monster.
>> So anyway, um definitely look at this.
It's not It's not a very long document.
It's about what 15 pages long.
>> Yeah. 12 15 12 somewhere around there.
>> Yeah. And it uh it really does paint a picture of what the whole family is went through and is still going through. So um I just want to read a little part right here. Uh the gravity of the attempted aggravated murder is that the defendant learned from her mistakes. Now remember, she tried to kill him on Valentine's Day of 2022 and it didn't work. So that's what they're talking about here. She learned to obtain something stronger and to administer it in a way that prevented Eric from realizing the poison's effect until it was too late. The circumstances of the attempted aggravated murder are identical to the circumstances of the murder. The gravity and circumstances of the frauds and forgery uh punch above the cha charges weight. Read that again.
That don't that didn't make sense. The gravity, what the heck? The gravity and circumstances of the frauds and forgery punch above the charges weight because they encompass the defendant's motive for murdering Eric. and um precurinary gain aggravator. The defendant's character are discussed and it gives where they can you discuss where they can discuss and read about the defendant's character. Anyway, her character is irredeemable. Accordingly, the defendant uh earned distinct punishment for counts two through five and the court should sentence them consecutive to any other sentence. In other words, one after the other after the other, not concurrently, so she would have a chance to get out. Again, I don't think there's any way in hell she's going to uh get anything but life without parole and all of her sentences will be consecutive. But in her mind, in her whatever psychologically damaged brain is going on there, whatever personality disorder she has, she's convinced herself that they that she will be believed. You know, she could be a narcissist or whatever, but she has Cory Richens has convinced herself that the judge will see through all of this and see that I'm this cute, adorable, wonderful little wife who would never do anything. Here she has her sons put in writing. All three of them are scared that their mother will get out and come and harm them. And I I don't even think that affects her. I don't even think she thinks, "Wow, that hurts my heart that my sons think that." No, I think she's probably thinking, "If I get out, I'd punish him." You know, I can just I can feel the hate and the horror coming from this woman. Oh, she is just awful.
Absolutely awful. She probably probably is like they're brainwashed. They're turning them against.
>> Not that she did that herself. And yeah, according to her though, you know, the judge is corrupt. So >> Oh, that's right. I forgot.
>> You know, remember >> Oh, that's right. The judge is corrupt.
The prosecutor No, >> prosecutor is corrupt. Everybody's corrupt but her.
>> Exactly. Yeah.
>> So, it should be really interesting tomorrow. I'm wondering what in the world the defense is going to say. I can't imagine a anything they could say that would help in any way, shape, or form this uh her anybody could think. Now, it's going to be the judge deciding, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm glad for that. And uh and he's fair. I mean, he's not going to he's going to listen to both sides. he's going to hear what they have to say and uh he's he's going to come out with life without pearl. I mean, it's just so obvious when you read what the prosecution has. There is nothing the defense can say that can change that, that can mitigate that, that can dilute that in any way, shape, or form.
>> Right. I totally agree with that because from everything I've read, there isn't any she can't claim abuse or anything like that. So there's nothing. She's it's you know. So yeah, >> it's just uh like mother like daughter.
Her f her mother was accused of this but never charged because her partner also died in a way similar. And uh damn, you know, again I I I don't know much about her mother, but that is absolutely terrifying to me. When I heard that, I I couldn't believe it. You know, I tried to get caught up on this case uh a while ago, and when I started reading about Corey Richen's mom, I was like, "Oh my god, this family is a nightmare." And when Eric was dating her, didn't he know about the possibility of like the mother-in-law from hell? I I don't know.
I don't know.
I I would like to know more about uh what he knew about her background before he married her. So, just have to wait and see. I don't know. Anyway, let's take a look in chat and see how Yeah, that Stephanie Ferrell. There you go. I think that's the best description. She's nuts. Yeah, >> she's absolutely nuts. No question.
>> No question.
Uh let's see here. Yeah, apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Stephanie.
That's absolutely right. So, let's see.
Okay, Bug, what are you doing, honey?
Aie, what are you doing? I had a meeting today, a Zoom meeting with some very important people.
And Aie decided to cough and throw up.
And then he decided >> I know. Then he decided to do the things that he did that dogs do to each other, if you know what I mean. And I'm trying to talk and and be professional. And I'm like throwing my arms out here and grabbing toys and blankets and and I can't put them out cuz all they do is cry and whine and it'll be worse, you know? So I I hope when I get them up on this uh on the couch, they'll just settle down. Come on. Here, baby. Let's go out this way. Okay. There. Oh, there you go. Okay, that's what you wanted.
Let's There you go. Go get that.
I mean, Scrappy Joe is a good boy. He sits there. He's like a good boy. And Aie is a good boy, too. He's just He's just a little rambunctious.
Oh god, it's just a disaster. Okay, now a lot of you, including me, should be getting Cheryl McCollum's book tomorrow, and it is called Swans Don't Swim in a Sewer. And that will be our next choice after we finish down the hill uh in our in our uh websoo investigative official webs investigative book club. And I don't see that link that they usually give you.
They give you a little arrow and it makes the link really small, but I don't see that here on my Amazon account. What is wrong? Why is everything going wrong?
>> I have it.
>> Do you have the short one? Yep.
>> Can you put it in chat, please?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Thank you. Thank you.
So, be sure and get Cheryl's book. Now, what we're going to try and do at Crime Con, and I can't guarantee it, but we're going to try and do a kind of like a impromptu book club meeting at CrimeCon.
So, what I'd like to know is if you are going to Crime Con, could you please email me? So, I'll have everybody and if you wouldn't mind, cell phone number if you want me to call and I'll give you mine. But, um, let me give you my email here. And if you want to connect up, email me, please. Here is my email. And again, I can't guarantee that we're going to cuz I don't know what the schedule's going to be. I don't know anything yet. We're about 3 weeks away.
So, 2 and 1/2 weeks. Lu's videos >> and just to say Cheryl's book is available now.
>> Yes. So >> I but I'm saying a lot of people are getting it tomorrow I've been told >> and mine's coming tomorrow too.
>> Awesome. So what I was going to say is that so for those of you if you have Kindle it's half off right now. Instead of 1999 it's $9.99.
>> Oh good idea. Very good idea.
>> Okie dokie. Um let's see what else should we talk about. Tomorrow we're going to tell you about this amazing docue series coming up about a guy named Benjamin Kyle. Does anybody know who Benjamin Kyle is? Does that ring a bell?
He was the guy that had amnesia.
>> Well, it's a much deeper and more disturbing story. And uh we're going to get all that information for you tomorrow. and Web Sloo is going to pop up in the docue series. It's a four-parter. Two parts will air on Memorial Day Monday and then the second two parts will air on Tuesday. And uh you are going to be absolutely stunned when you see the story of Benjamin Kyle.
It is chilling. It's frightening. And I and Web Sloo's part in it just it makes my heart stop. Um and again, I don't want to give anything away, but uh wow.
It's going to be pretty cool. I believe it's going to be on Discovery ID, but I need to get more information and we'll we'll talk about it tomorrow as well.
Let me get my coffee here.
So, as I jump around from topic to topic, if you are going to Crime Con and you would like to join up with us, please email me Web Sleuth Videos. I've put it in chat. I'll put it in the description as well. And I can't guarantee that we're going to be able to hook up with everybody. We're going to try. But, uh, you know, I remember the days, Stacy, when you'd get ready and go out to party like at you start to get ready at 10 o'clock at night.
>> Yeah. and you had to work the next day, >> you know, and it's like, "Oh god, I'm supposed to meet somebody for drinks at 9:30." No, I I I'll drop dead if I do it that late, you know. So, I'm going to try and have lots of energy. Lots of energy.
>> I can remember I would go to college during the day, I worked at night, and then, you know, you party all night, and then you'd get up and do it again the next day. You know, I remember those days.
>> You were able to do it. You were able to do it. No problem whatsoever.
So, let's see here. Um, >> you know, I don't know if you know, but there's a superseding indictment came out today in regard to Anna Keaptainner, suspect.
>> No, what happened? Talk to me. I I did not hear about this. Go for it.
>> So, so I'd read the indictment before, but this is superseding, so it's updated is all. And it was filed on March 10th.
Oh, no. This is the same one then.
Okay, do me a favor.
>> Tell us who Anna Kempner is to remind everybody.
>> Yes. Oh, no. She's the young lady that was uh killed on the cruise ship.
>> And her stepbrother has been arrested for the crime >> and um they were all >> Oh, go ahead.
>> I was just going to say the count too. I don't remember it being like this, but it says so he did basically from what it's what I'm reading is he did penetrate her by use of force.
>> So he raped her basically.
>> Yeah. That's like disturbing.
>> And and if you remember uh she felt real creepy about him. Now, the story behind this is uh her mother married this kid's father and they all went on a cruise together and they shoved all the kids in a room together and she felt very uncomfortable around this kid and this kid had a thing for her. That was the problem. And uh she didn't have a thing for him. So, I don't know. It was um it was chilling. It was the murder was just shocking. You know, the parents have been getting a lot of criticism for putting all the boys and the girls together at that age, making them all sleep in one cabin, but we don't we don't know all the circumstances yet.
Hopefully, we will, but yeah, he has been charged it now. He is being charged as an adult if I remember correctly. Is that right?
>> Yes. And they're saying he pre he was premeditated.
>> Yeah. Oh, God. Jesus. That's just awful.
So, yeah.
her. Oh, was it her dad that married the boy's mother? I thought it was the opposite. I thought it was >> her dad.
>> Oh, okay. Her Sorry, I got that wrong.
My apologies. Her dad married the boy's mother. Yeah.
>> And what I don't understand is >> according to the now the her boy her former boyfriend has come out and said this that she felt uncomfortable around this guy.
>> Mhm.
>> If she had expressed that, why did the parents put them in that room together?
That's what's bothering me.
>> Um, okay. In the room together, I couldn't say, but the only thing, you know, I've thought about this too that I could say and when you have multiple kids, um, even when they are bloodreated, they complain about each other. They might may complain about each other constantly. Not all siblings do this, >> but >> but this was a sexual complaint. This was a he he makes it creepy. According to the boyfriend, it was >> creepy. this, you know, it wasn't just he's annoying. It was like I don't feel safe around him. He's creepy. He's, you know, trying to get with me type complaint.
>> Yeah. Because that's what I'm hopefully found out.
>> Yeah. Is if she actually said that or not to anyone to an adult. That's what I would like to find out.
>> Yeah. Well, >> according to her boyfriend, >> uh, she said it to him former boyfriend.
Again, that's just that's being reported and so it's hard hard to say for sure.
So, >> yeah. Okay. Um, now I want to tell you a story. Let me grab it here.
Let me grab it. Where did it go? Hang on.
It is in my uh I got this Corey Richens document so late that uh I didn't have a chance to get as prepared as I normally would be because you know we are just like 60 Minutes people. We are that sharp. You're right on it. There's never a question.
And that that case reminds me of with Anna like Becky Watts and Becky Watts was murdered by her stepbrother as well. Remind me of that case >> in the UK and um the stepbrother had a girlfriend and they had went in and took Becky, killed her, dismembered her. Mhm.
>> You know, his mother was married to Becky's father >> and mother had basically raised his mother basically raised Becky.
Evidently, he >> was really jealous of her or had some kind of attraction as well supposedly >> and yeah, they horribly brutally murdered her.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh my god.
>> Was ter you know just >> Okay, now I can't find my damn uh story that I had set up playing on. Hang on.
Let me grab it. Let me go to Web Sloo and grab it because it's on Web Sloo.
Here it is. Let me grab it. Let me grab it. Hang on guys.
Give me a second here. Can you take over chat while I just take a quick look here and grab my stuff?
>> Yes. I was just reading that Cat Ride says you could not keep me away >> from >> the trial cuz they're saying in there that uh Anna's dad said he's not going to trial to the trial.
>> How come?
>> I don't know.
I don't know.
>> Well, that's crazy.
>> And Jesse Robin says, "I think they made her stay in the room with them as the adult so the parents didn't have to split up.
Let's see.
>> Yeah, it's Cat Ride 3 says the cat the dad said he is not going to be at the trial. He doesn't want to be there.
>> Well, I mean that's his prerogative.
Maybe he just can't handle it. It's just too much, right?
>> Okay. There is a 16-year-old girl that hooked up with this dirt bag who was 28 years old and he looks like he's about 58. And they murdered her family.
And it's like when you you can't tell by pictures, but when you see the pictures of this 16-year-old, you're like, "What?
She looks like this sweet little, you know, she would be the homecoming queen of a small town high school or something." It is unbelievable. And uh here is Fox News North Carolina here that we're going to um play here to get us caught up today. And Webus has a great discussion going on about this case as well. So, let me grab this here really quickly.
Here we go.
Here we go, everybody.
Well, that breaking news right now at 10:00 out of Western North Carolina. A 16-year-old girl arrested for the alleged murders of both of her parents and her grandmother. An adult man has also been charged in their deaths.
Authorities tracked down both of them today in Tennessee. Deputies say those killings happened yesterday at a home in Fair View, North Carolina. We have it mapped out right here for you on your screen. That's also where we find Fox Carolina's Alexa with the latest on the investigation.
Crime scene tape still hanging here on this fence just one day after deputies with the Bunkham County Sheriff's Office say they found three adults dead with gunshot wounds here in this trailer.
Now, one of the suspects accused in their deaths, the victim's daughter and granddaughter. All four of them beloved by the community, leaving neighbors shocked.
>> Her family was great to me. They treated me well. She was an amazing person to me.
>> Sailor Tagner grew up next door to 16-year-old Star Grant and her parents, 41-year-old Travis Grant and 42-year-old Kimberly Grant. They treated me with like I was their own and it felt awesome.
>> She says she met Star Grant in elementary school and the two quickly became friends.
>> She would take care of me at at school.
If like someone was bullying me or something, she would stand up for me.
Um, if it's so weird that to expect my neighbor to do all that and someone I grew up with. I was at their house constantly.
>> The same house where Travis and Kimberly Grant along with 66-year-old Sharon Grant were found dead Thursday. Deputies say they believe the victims had been dead for several days. Deputies say they were first called to the home Monday after a family member requested a welfare check, but no one answered the door. They returned Wednesday for another welfare check, then again Thursday evening when they were finally able to get inside. After finding the three victims, deputies realized 16-year-old Star Grant, who lived in the home with her parents, was missing.
Deputies say they tracked her to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where she was found Friday morning with 28-year-old Devin Loving. The nature of their relationship is unknown at this time.
>> We believe that they were there for um more than a few days. That's still under investigation. The the total length of time uh is part of our investigation.
>> Deputies have not released a motive.
Both suspects faced three counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Star Grant is being charged as an adult. Both suspects could face the death penalty.
>> I didn't believe it. I just Cuz if you knew Star, she was a good kid. She'd come over here. She always had a dog with her.
>> Sailor's dad, Keith, said Star was a familiar face around the neighborhood.
>> Everybody that would drive by would wave to Star cuz they just knew her.
>> Keith and Sailor say they are still trying to process what happened.
describing Star and her parents as good people.
>> I didn't know like how to feel. I just I felt kind of scared honestly.
>> Suspects are expected to be extradited from Gatlinburg, Tennessee back to Bunkham County on Monday. Reporting in Bunkham County, Alexa, Fox Carolina News.
Okay, I want to uh show you their picture here. Uh, if you go to websoo.com, you'll see right on the front page, we have what's called a featured story. And you can see it says, "Why did a 16-year-old and her boyfriend allegedly kill her family?" And let's see. Yeah.
And there she is right there. I mean, she just looks so wholesome. And of course, that guy looks like a dirt bag.
But, uh, I think it's pretty obvious why they did this. So, let me put the link in chat to the discussion. WS discussion.
>> I also have a quote from the niece of Kim Grant who was Star's mother that was murdered.
>> Yes, tell us that.
>> So, um, she said information came out that Star had been in contact with this older gentleman and that he had brought bought her a burner phone and she would take her breaks at lunch at work and they'd meet at the parking lot above her job. Once they told me that and I realized that my aunt and uncle were trying to put a restraining order on this man, I kind of put two and two together, you know. Um, she said that she believes the couple confronted their daughter after taking away her alleged burner phone.
>> Mhm.
>> They were >> as soon as the parents found out about it, they were like, "No, this isn't happening. We're putting a restraining order on him." But court records confirm there wasn't one filed. So, >> so, okay, here we go. Oldest story in the book.
>> Uh, teenager wants to go with an older guy. The parents, rightly so, are going, "No, this guy's a dirt bag."
>> And, uh, "Sorry, honey. We We're not."
And he wouldn't leave her alone. So, they're getting a restraining order, and they think, "Hey, why don't we just kill them? We're smart enough. We'll get away with it." Oh my god.
>> I know. So bad.
>> 16-year-old. again, she's got to suffer the consequences, but uh when you're under the influence of a much older guy like that, uh I hope they take that into consideration for her.
But I, and maybe I'm wrong to say this, everyone, but there's got to be something wrong when a 16-year-old can be convinced to murder her parents and her grandmother. There's already got to be something in that brain that is not functioning right. I don't know. I could be wrong.
>> They're both charged with three counts of murder and three counts of conspiracy and they are facing it could be life or it could be death. They haven't decided yet.
>> Right. Right. And so yeah, we'll have to wait and see what happens there. But uh Oh god, it's just so bad. It is so bad.
And and this seems like a small town.
What was it called? What was it? Bunan or Bun Bunam or something. I don't >> like Buncom or something like that.
>> Very very small town it seems like. And um >> Yeah. And they were found, you know, in Tennessee in a hotel >> together.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, I think uh you know, Stacy, I have this book and I haven't told you about it. Um, and I've been meaning to because I've been meaning to get Why would you laugh? I'm being very serious.
>> I have I was going to get you a copy.
Now I'm not going to. It's a law book.
Okay. It's a law book.
>> And in situations like that, you know, the the courts and the prosecutors, they have certain law terms that they use for uh for criminals when they commit a certain crime.
>> Yes. And this particular crime is legally called the the the type of criminal that commits this crime is called a dumbass.
>> Yeah. See, I knew there's a reason I >> Hey. Okay.
You knew. You knew. I was trying to be serious. But I mean it. If there was a book, a legal book like that, that's what they would be called. They're dumb asses. They think they're going to get away with it. My god.
Right.
>> Oh, you guys. I Okay, I need to calm down because I just get so I get so upset when I do this live stream every night. I'm like, "What the hell, people?" But uh anyway, go to websoo.com and um and just click on the the link there on the front page. Uh Jesse Roblin says um Jesse Robin says, "Does Trisha have a bit of ADHD?" Why would you think I had ADHD? Oh, look. There's something shiny.
>> Anyway, I don't have ADHD. In fact, my doctor's sick.
>> Sorry, my doggy's too cute.
>> Or was I?
>> My daughter sent you a picture of the shirt I just bought my daughter shirt.
>> I think I bought my son the same one.
Can you tell me what it says? I bet I bought the same one.
>> Well, it's black and white, so it looks like, you know, and it's got the lightning bolt in the middle. was ad lightning bolt HD. So it looks like it would be AC/DC.
>> Yeah.
>> And then it's high. And then it says highway to Oh, look, a kitten.
>> That's it. That's I same one. Yep.
That's exactly it. Uh yeah. And I might I might have just a touch of ADHD. Just a slight touch. So it's been it's been noted. It's been noted before. Uh no, I did not take my blood pressure meds. In fact, I probably really should cuz um you get I just get so upset when I see a waste like in this situation. You have a waste of, you know, parents and grandmother and then you also have a waste of a 16-year-old >> who was led down a path by this and I mean look at guys look at him. Let me share this picture again.
Okay.
I mean, granted, I uh I am not in any way, shape, or form, you know, looking to get a boyfriend or anything, but looking at this guy and here she is 16. I mean, look at him.
Look at that.
You know, Mr. Baldy there. And I'm sorry. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but this guy does not look like he's an aerospace engineer. And she just I'm sure I'm sure he lovebombed her and gave her all kinds of attention. And again, she has to take responsibility, but he makes me sick to my stomach. Who a 28-year-old who takes out a 16-year-old?
I mean, what an idiot. So, okay, I'm calming down. And I'm calming down.
>> I promise I'm coming down. So, let's see here. Where are we? There we go.
Okay, here we go.
Okay, I've got You got to remind me, I can't forget tomorrow that we're going to go live at uh 11:15 Eastern to cover the Corey Richens sentencing. I don't think it'll take too long. Uh just depends on the witnesses. I I think they'll be witnesses tomorrow with the defense and with the prosecution. Uh, one thing that um I'm sure they're going to bring up is what the uh prosecutor brought up in the papers that were filed just today in the Corey Richen sentencing. And that is that if her son would have testified, um he would have testified and and absolutely contradicted what his mother was telling the court about uh where he slept and you know she made up this big lie and she used her she was trying to use her son to cover up her uh her crime and it it is just horrific. So, I think it's a good idea that we watch the sentencing tomorrow because it gives us a sense of of justice and a sense of relief to know that she's going to be going away for life. If she doesn't, I will be stunned. I can't imagine that Corey Richens is not going to go away for life. Okay, let's get to Nancy Guthrie now. And just to say tomorrow should tomorrow should be uh the victim impact statements.
>> Oh that's right. Oh yes. And so that's going to be >> Yeah.
>> Very very emotional. Very emotional. So um okay. Now, there have been some things that are being said, and I I just want to throw this out there, that they are withholding evidence on purpose that by not coming out and stating anything, which is weird to me. So, um, now here here's the headline. Nancy Guthrie missing 100 days as expert suggests lack of updates could be strategic. Well, let's see who that is. Are you ready for this? Okay, this is from 13 News. And let's see here. Um, no, that's not it. Okay. It has been 100 days since Nancy Guthrie, the 84y old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her California Foothills home. And actually, that was yesterday, so it's 101 days. Now, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has not held a live briefing since February, but former FBI agent Scott um is Agenbomb says the lack of public updates is often strategic and does not mean the investigation has stalled. There are primary case agents that their sole responsibility is to see this case through. He said, "We're probably not going to really hear much until somebody is indicted. You don't want to tip off the hand the the hands to your suspect.
>> If the suspect is out there now, you don't even want them to think anything is going on. So, what he is saying is, look, they might be hot on the case of a suspect, but they're not going to give any updates cuz they want this suspect to think that nothing is going on. It's boring. It's been 101 days. They've gotten away with it. Not to worry. That absolutely could be true.
But I don't think for one second that's the case. I I I just don't I I after reading more and more about Sheriff Nanos and uh how things went on in the first three or four days of the investigation and the contradictions between the FBI and what he is saying, somebody is lying. And uh I I just think Sheriff Nanos is just too damn uh arrogant to admit that he did not have the ability to handle a case like this. And this was the most massive case that I have seen in probably a decade if not more as far as people discussing it on webs. That's a really good indication of the whole country when it is just non-stop 24/7 posting on webs. So the pressure he was under I'm sure was tremendous but he seems in my opinion to be incredibly arrogant. He doesn't uh want to bring anybody else in. He should have sent everything to the FBI lab at first which was free and like they say you know one of the best in the country.
instead he sent it to the Florida lab and they sent it back and said, "Yeah, we can't do it."
>> Well, that was a waste, you know, and then they had to send it to the FBI FBI lab anyway. But I guess there is a chance that maybe they're not tipping their hand because they want the suspect to think that everything's calm and they have no idea who he is or who they are.
I don't think that's the case at all.
>> I think in other cases it could be. Not in this case. Let's see what you Oh, go ahead, my dear.
>> I was going to say in this case, I have no clue. It's Everything's been so crazy. But yeah, that's pretty standard in normal cases, you know, and especially I hate to say it, but if they're doing surveillance on someone >> Mhm.
>> they're not going to say a word.
>> Oh, they're not Yeah. They're not going to say anything.
>> No. Yeah.
>> Yeah. That cuz they do not want to tip them off. And again, that could be I hope that's the case. I would love nothing more than to come on and say, "I was so wrong about this. I apologize.
They knew what they were doing. They caught the guy. They they found Nancy. I would love nothing more to than to apologize." But I I agree with you, my dear. I think the sheriff has been very dishonest. Uh this is Ballotina, and I agree. I think he's been very very dishonest. So, it is uh it's just it it was bad. It was bad from day one there. I am sorry. This just is no way this should have gone on this long. We had video of the guy. Video.
I I just don't get it. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see what happens. I really can't wait for the day that Savannah can speak freely about what happened behind the scenes because I think there's a lot that she will be able to tell us about what's happening.
Uh Stacy, do you have anything else going on, my darling?
>> No, I think that's it.
>> Okay. Well, uh we are working on a few things here. And tomorrow night, we're going to tell you more about this amazing four-part documentary that'll air Monday, next Monday, and Tuesday.
And I would encourage everybody to watch it. I believe it's on Discovery ID.
We're going to have more information tomorrow, but WebLoose is a part of it.
And I can't wait to tell you our part on Web Sloo because um as I have found out it was it played a bigger part than I imagined and you are going to be just shocked at this docue series. It is I can't I can't wait. I am so excited. But we'll have more about that tomorrow. And uh let's see what else. Um oh, don't forget we're going to be setting up a Zoom call with Susan Hendris to discuss Down the Hill. And then our book club, our next book club pick is, of course, Cheryl McCullum's Swans Don't Swim in a Sewer. We'll be getting all of that together. We're getting ready for Crime Con. We have so much going on, people. And Stacy's going to do all the work. I'm going to take all the credit as it is always meant to be. Right, Stacy?
>> Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Okay, everybody. I think that's it. I want to thank our wonderful moderators. That would be Lin Gen 2, Detective's Daughter. Also, four sons Mom, Lysa Gyos, Love and Coco, Moonlight View, and um uh Detective's daughter. Did I say Detective's Daughter?
>> I'm not sure.
>> I'm not sure. Yeah, I better start over.
Let me start over. Detective's Daughter, Lin Gen 2, Four Sons Mom, Lisa Gyos, uh Love and Coco, and Moonlight View.
There. I think I got everybody.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay, guys. We love you. Now, we'll be here tomorrow, 11:15 Eastern. Let me do the time math for you. 11:15 a.m.
Eastern, 10:15 a.m. Central, uh 9:15 a.m. Mountain, and 8:15 a.m. Pacific.
So, join us cuz we are going to carry the Corey Richens sentencing, and that will include victim's impact statements tomorrow. We're going to carry it live on this channel. So, I hope we'll see you then, everybody. And if not, we'll see you tomorrow night, 10:30 Eastern on Web Sloo YouTube Live. We'll see you then. Bye-bye.
