This series cleverly uses quantum mechanics to ground the surreal nature of the Backrooms in theoretical physics. It is a fascinating synthesis of high-level science and modern digital folklore.

Sonic Travels to the BackroomsAdded:
Heat.
Heat.
Uh, I think we're okay.
How do I get in that room, though, guys?
What was that? What was that? Okay, wait.
You seem very busy today, huh?
>> Yep.
>> Well, I don't want to seem nagging or anything, but um what you working on?
>> Remember a few months ago when I told you about that strange place that I fell into? I do.
>> I've been thinking ever since I fell through our very own floor on how that was even possible.
Or what if there was a potential way to get back there?
>> Wait, go back.
>> Yes, that place felt different. And something was very off about it, but I can't explain why.
>> Okay, hold on. Let's go back for a sec.
I don't really want to be that guy or anything, but you sure you didn't hit your head? Or could it be? You know, it's a side effect of a concussion. I appreciate your concern, but it wasn't.
The walls, the carpet, and the hum of these often like lights that I saw there. It felt way too real to be imagined.
>> Honestly, I believe you, buddy. You have no reason to lie. However, if you wanted to travel to that place, oh, like you said yourself, the fall was a complete random event with no rational explanation of how you did it.
>> Well, I might have a solution for that.
Introducing the quantum phaser device.
>> Wasn't that an alien translator at some point?
>> Yes, but it's been repurposed and it's still a work in progress. But the central idea is that this device will tear open a portal and will allow us to face through to another plane of existence.
>> That's way more than my hedgehog brain can comprehend, Tails. But how would you know if something like that would even work?
>> It all comes down to quantum tunneling.
>> Please elaborate.
Basically, quantum tunneling is when the waves length of electrons, protons, and atoms match the speed of each other, and it allows solid matter to face through solid surfaces.
>> Well, let's pretend for a second I understood all of that. But, um, you know, in case I didn't, uh, care to, uh, put it into simpler terms.
>> Think of it like a ghost being able to pass through walls and objects.
>> Gotcha. So, you're basically saying we can teleport through walls. But even if that was true, how would that allow us to go back to that place? I mean, wouldn't we go through the wall, the floor, or get ourselves decapitated through some weird physics?
>> Only one way to find out.
>> Wait, don't don't you want to plan this out first?
>> Just like you always say, an adventure waits for no one.
Now, uh, are there potential side effects to this?
>> If everything goes right, then we should relatively face through the other side easily. If not, our entire body matter will be erased and [music] evaporate from existence.
>> Oh, lovely.
Uhoh. Is uh is that supposed to happen?
>> I'm not sure why though. I think this device may be malfunctioning.
It worked. Finally, something I created finally worked. You see, Sonic.
Sonic.
Oh no, the device.
Where are you, Sonic?
Tails.
Hello.
Everything just looks the same.
Man, what the hell is this place?
Ah, come on, bud. You got to be around here somewhere.
I hope.
Hey, who said that?
There's more to this place than you realize.
Hey, Tails, are you around here?
Sonic.
Oh, >> finally.
>> So glad to finally see your face again.
>> Same. Just can't believe your device actually worked. Was this the place you were referring to for many months now?
>> Kind of. Although it looks awfully different from when I remembered it.
It's almost like there were two different places. Strange.
Well, uh, anyways, as much as I love new adventures, this place is very unsettling, and I think it's best we get the hell out of here.
>> Unfortunately, we can't. I don't have the device.
>> You uh, you what?
>> It must have fell somewhere in this maze when we fell through.
>> So, it [laughter] could literally be anywhere in this multiplex, >> I guess. So, >> oh, looks like we have no other choice, right?
Where's this place supposed to be at?
>> I'm not even sure. Although, judging by the look of the walls and carpet, it seems like this endless maze is a warp stretch version of an office.
Fascinating.
ran through these halls not too long ago, but it seems to never end. Doesn't help that this giant space gives off isolated vibes either.
>> H very interesting.
>> What the heck was that?
Never.
I I think it left.
Another device.
Heat. Heat.
Huh? We're back.
>> Yes, we are.
How do we get sent to the beach, though?
>> I'm really confused as well. But it might be because the device faced us out to a random location that it could find.
>> Whatever the case may be, I'm just glad we're out of that maze. Something just felt wrong about us being there. And seeing those monsters weren't really a delight to see.
>> I agree. Although it leaves me with a lot of curiosity and questions.
I feel like researching will fill this void that I've been needing lately.
>> Okay, buddy. Listen, I'm glad you found something that excites your work. But think logically here. That place was gigantic with a lot of empty spaces and hallways that led to nowhere. Not to mention the unknown creatures that inhabit that area. For your safety, I think it's best if you stop going any further, Tails.
You're right, Sonic. Just sucks with that discovery being so unique.
>> Hey, come on. Let's get some chili dog.
Whatever you want to cheer you up after we find out where home is.
What?
Heat. Heat.
