When comparing fresh dog food delivery services, key evaluation criteria include ingredient quality (both use human-grade, vet-designed recipes), recipe variety (Ollie offers more options with fresh and dried formats), pricing (The Farmer's Dog is more affordable for complete fresh diet), additional offerings (Ollie provides treats and supplements), and customer service (Ollie offers more communication channels). Ollie emerges as the preferred choice due to its wider range of product options and formats, though The Farmer's Dog offers better value for those seeking a complete fresh diet at a lower cost.

Ollie vs The Farmer’s Dog | Best Fresh Dog Food: Ingredients & Value ComparedAdded:
Hello there. My name is Felicia, a dog mom on a mission to give my Frenchie Milo the best life possible. I think we can all agree we live in the age of options, even in dog food. Scrolling through my social media, two options I see all the time are The Farmer's Dog and Ollie. So, which one lands on top?
In today's video, we're going to compare both companies based on their ingredient quality, recipe options, price, available extras, and customer service.
Before we get into it, if at any point you want to either give company a try for your dog, there is an affiliate link in the description below for a discount you won't find on The Farmer's Dog or Ollie's website. We're going to go ahead and get started, but I just wanted to throw that out there before we got any further along. So, if you're new to the fresh dog food scene, you may not be familiar with what they do. So, in a nutshell, both The Farmer's Dog and Ollie provide fresh dog food deliveries to your home on a recurring basis. The meals are pre-portioned based on your dog's individual needs. Meals arrive frozen. The only prep work required is letting them thaw before serving them to your pup. Great. So, let's get into our first comparison, ingredient quality. In all honesty, looking at both companies, it's a tie in my book. Both The Farmer's Dog and Ollie's meals are designed by veterinary nutritionist and meet all nutritional guidelines. Food is cooked and packaged in the USA before finding its way to your door and is human grade, which is a fancy way of saying the ingredients and processes used to make the product are the same as if they would be making it for people to eat.
But, [snorts] as tempting as that may be, I'll probably just leave the taste testing up to Milo. I want to point out the nutrient blend you see on each recipe is not a preservative. It's a vitamin {slash} mineral blend it used to increase the nutritional value of the food. Feel free to rewind and pause the video to check out those ingredients.
So, what do both companies offer in terms of recipes? Well, The Farmer's Dog offers four options: turkey, beef, chicken, and pork. Each protein is blended with a different mix of vegetables and nutrients. Great. So, let's talk about Ollie. To start off, I want to mention Ollie offers two formats of their food: a fresh option that arrives frozen and a dried food product.
In their fresh line, they have beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, and pork. And each protein includes its own blend of vegetables and nutrients as well. I'll put up the ingredients for their beef recipe, and again, feel free to pause if you like. So, let's take a peek at that dried option I mentioned earlier. The dried food comes in two recipes: chicken and beef. And like their fresh counterpart, they also include a blend of vegetables and nutrients in addition to grains. This option is shelf-stable, so no need to freeze or refrigerate. It is a ready-to-serve product I would compare to the texture of your standard kibble. All right. So, all that being said, I'm going to give the win to Ollie. The reason being is the wider range of options Ollie offers, especially offering their product in a fresh and dry format. Great. So, let's talk about price. I want to point out before we get to the numbers, the price for each of you is going to be different. Both companies offer a free quiz taking into account your dog's breed, age, weight, activity level, and any health issues. The price for a Chihuahua would be less than Milo because the smaller dog would not eat as much.
On the other hand, the price for a Great Dane would be more than both dogs because they are much larger and in theory eat more. All right, let's move on. So, I used Milo's information for both quotes and the same recipe choice of beef, turkey, and chicken. I'm going to start with Ollie. On the lower end, we are able to use the fresh food as a supplement to Milo's existing kibble.
The cost would be $14.70 a week during the trial period. To switch to an all fresh diet, the cost would be $21.
As a middle of the road option, we can opt for a half fresh, half baked meal plan for $17. It's nice to have different options to choose from, especially if you have a larger breed.
Farmer's Dog only offers one meal option for Milo, and that is a total switch to a fresh diet. That initial weekly cost would be $18.44.
I want to mention, depending on when you watch this, prices could very well have changed, recipes reformulated, or new ones added. You get the picture. In a nutshell, if you're interested in checking out either company, take a look at the link in the description to get a quote, which, like I mentioned, will automatically get you a bit of a discount that isn't available if you go straight to their website. Now, comparing apples to apples on switching your dog to an all fresh diet, The Farmer's Dog did come in at a lower price than Ollie. So, for that reason, the win goes to The Farmer's Dog.
So, I'm a fan of one-stop shopping. So, to me, being able to get a majority of things I need from one place is a win in my book. In this case, I'm looking at add-ons available to add to my order.
The Farmer's Dog at this time does not offer any treats or supplements. They only offer their food product. Ollie, on the other hand, offers both treats and supplements that can be added to your order. So, for that reason, I'm going to give the win to Ollie. Again, this may be more of a win on the side of convenience, but based on Milo's reaction to his Ollie chicken treats, a tasty one at that. Great. So, on to our last topic, customer service. Both The Farmer's Dog and Ollie provide a phone number and email to reach them. Ollie also offers text messaging, a live chat feature, and an app to download as well.
Both websites are easy to navigate. Now, I'm not a web designer, so for the average person scrolling on both sites, I can find what I'm looking for pretty easily. Both sites offer a blog for fellow doggy parents like myself to find advice or just to read some cool dog facts. In terms of returns, Ollie only accepts returns on the initial trial order. If your dog has issues outside of that, they recommend donating the food to an animal shelter. They don't mention any type of refund on orders after the trial.
The Farmer's Dog says on their website they will send different recipes for your dog to try or offer a refund with your donation of the unused food to a dog shelter.
Now, I want to mention both sites prominently feature the reviews from happy pup parents, and I can't knock them because if I were a business, of course I would feature reviews from my happiest customers. But, I would encourage you to do your homework to find the best fit for your dog. I'm going to give them a tie. Each has their own pros and cons, so we'll just call it even.
All right. So, who comes out on top?
Adding up our scores from the course of the video, the winner is Ollie. The many options they offer and the quality of their product make them stand out in the fresh dog food world, and I think they offer a fantastic product that your dog will love eating.
And there we have it. That's going to be it for today. I really hope you found the video useful, and if you did, hit the like button and subscribe for more.
And like I mentioned before, if you want to give either company a try for yourself, check out the link in the description to get that discount that you won't be able to get if you went straight to their website. Also, feel free to leave any questions in the comments below, and I'll try my best to answer them as soon as I can. Thanks again so much for watching. We'll see you next time.
