In high-performance racing applications, clutch system issues such as drag and vibration can be diagnosed by measuring the air gap between the throw-out bearing and diaphragm using a feeler gauge; when no gap exists (0.000 inches), the clutch is making contact and causing drag, which creates transmission vibration. The solution involves adding shims to create proper clearance, and during track events, drivers must monitor clutch performance and adjust fuel delivery based on track conditions (e.g., running 10 lbs less fuel on hot, greasy tracks) to prevent engine damage while maintaining performance.

Dr. D.
>> Yeah, they're there.
We can never have luck with bell housings fitting properly. Brand new bell housing. I done messed up the cover cuz we put the jack stand to it. Then you come in here and you look at the starter.
Of course, way off. Let's see how we can get some good light in here. Starter's way off. So, we're going to take it to Melvin.
Melvin's going to come in here, eat up that whole pocket, >> get this starter in more >> so it can grab.
>> Hell yeah.
>> Time check. Time check.

Right. Chill.
>> New bell housing.
Put it all back together.
>> Motor fresh motor like my drip. Damn bag girl a little bent.
See?
Didn't really film much since you guys always see what's going on. So, we modified the butt housing a little bit.
Got that in.
Got the motor in. Got everything dressed up. And I forgot an intake gasket.
I'll go get an intake gasket later. Get this thing fired up. Dropping blah blah blah blah. You know that macho spec going to hit different.

>> Oh yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay.
>> Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Got no timing in it. No boost.
>> No boost.
>> So if you know, you know.
>> Oh yeah. It's running. This one should be faster than mine. But today I just did an adjustable clutch on that bat girl. Got her leaving. So later we'll put a little boost up top. But now she's leaving. So we'll play with it later.
>> Yeah.

>> Yes, sir.
>> Yo, this is behind the scenes now.
>> She got all over. Look at >> that's going in the video.
>> How you How you check that? How you checked it?
>> What's up, guys? So, just a quick weekend recap.
We try to be prepared. We got the clutch in super last minute. We threw everything together. We try to go test on a Saturday night test and tune that there was. We show up basically ready.
Uh, go to do a two-step check and the car won't grab reverse or first gear.
Do all the adjustments. Overlook everything. Check the shims out on the diaphragm.
Basically, the clutch pump ends up going out. We come back home, order overnight uh clutch master cylinder, throw it in the car, adjust it. It's still a little rough. End up pulling the transmission out, shimming it up, throwing it all back together, and kind of overshoot it. Measure both disc and said, "All right, let's just start from what we had. Measured 20,000 difference on the old clutch assembly and the new one." shimmed at 20,000, put it on knowing that, okay, after the first pass or two passes that the clutch could swell up and kind of expand into its area that I would have to add a shim, creating more clearance later down the line being at the track or whatever.
Shove up to the track, knock the tire off, it was super hot, grass was, the track was super greasy, it was chunking rubber. Um, I had a very soft tuneup in it. I pulled a lot of power out. uh basically running I want to say 10 lbs less than what we normally run which is like a lot considering leaving all the fuel there that that takes a lot of power away and how hot it is that it's not going to burn the fuel. Um we show up there, knock the tire, cruise it down the I pedal it, cruise it down the rest of the way. It still ran 750 at 183 with to me I was super happy with that but I was starting to notice that on the shutdown the transmission and everything started vibrating.
So when I'm taking the turn, I notice a little drag. Like I have it in neutral, but the car I'm revving in the car is like a little jerky. So it has a little drag on it. Um, basically that's telling me that the clutch is ready to be shimmed. Like we need to add a shim, create a little clearance, and go about it that way. Um, let the car cool down. We look through everything, go to start it up to make sure, you know, normal routine.
And the transmission has a disgusting vibration going crazy. Feel the engine.
Engine's perfectly fine. You rev it up.
Accelerate is beautiful. Everything is fine. Not really sure what's going on there. I have a tonal uh window on my bell housing. I look through and I notice the air gap on the throw out bearing to the diaphragm on the clutch.
Literally none. Throw a filler gauge in there. 8000 doesn't go through 3000s.
Doesn't go through 2000. One zero.
Nothing's going through. So clearly this is making contact, creating clutch drag.
could cause a vibration from the transmission because the clutch is dragging on the input shaft and it's going to make everything kind of rattle.
Pull the [ __ ] out for the third time now at the track. Uh cuz we kept evaluating each thing, adding shims, adjusting this, adjusting that, trying to make everything happy cuz we don't want to smoke none of the new clutch setup.
Obviously, it's all new. We're trying something different. So, we're kind of having to keep a window open and pay attention to what's going on.
Knock down the the spacers I have for the throttle bearing. Basically 10,000 create that gap. Put everything back together. Start the car.
Vibration is less. Push the clutch in.
No vibration. Okay. So, we still have a little issue somewhere. Um I'm thinking, okay, maybe ate one of the stationary bearings. You know, didn't like it.
Obviously, something became unbalanced towards the end of the run. Ate a bearing. It's very common. Um, I said, "All right, well, we got to have a fix."
And there's nothing else we can do now.
We keep doing a couple things. Get it to basically have no vibration. Show up there for the first round eliminations.
I put a super super super soft leave on it. Considering it was even more hot, the track condition was even worse. Uh, I didn't hold the twostep as long to just dump it off quick and not build that much boost. And with that, I still built good amount of boost and left the hole. Did a 116 and once I kind of noticed my opponent stayed behind a little bit, I just cruised the guard, killed the gears, and rolled it down.
Selenoid turned on fifth gear and flooded the engine. Basically shut it down.
Uh, we come around, evaluate everything, and I'm noticed I got really, really low oil pressure. Little to none.
Um, we go through our options, get the car started, basically idles, rev it up a couple times, and we just decide, hey, we've had a hell of a run, hell of a week.
Let's just pack it up before it gets worse and we destroy everything else and call it a day because we're going to show up and not be able to perform our best. And to me is if you can't show up to swing, don't show up to bat at all.
Hey, it is what it is. But now we got everything back. We're going to be taking our time putting it away for a little bit, gathering some new parts.
Everything we have is kind of used up already. This combo I had put in it was fresh, but it ended up not being happy.
So, I'm going to put another really fresh combo in it. Uh, balance everything west Racing. Go through the whole nine yards. Port the crap out of the housings. Basically, make this a really, really solid engine. Another thing really quick, many people have asked throughout the weekend and stuff about Baby Gray. Baby Gray is basically ready. We did a couple modifications as far as safety. We added a quick time bell housing. Had to modify that with the starter. Big thank you to Melvin on helping me with that. He struggled rolling the car in this week and it did rain on Saturday. So, we had a first shot Saturday early and it's been a while since he got in it. He rode through the beams. Um, showed up Sunday first round cuz it rained for the rest of Saturday. They basically called it.
Um, show up for the first round of eliminations. He ends up doing the same thing. Redid the muffler. We changed the steering mount for John. the we added an extension. We messed a little bit with the gas pedal.
Basically, a bunch of comfort stuff aside of what needed to be done. Um, overlooked the whole car, nut bolt, basically got it 1,000% ready. Um, it's just something he has to get accustomed to and learn a little bit more about the procedure of running a car at this level. It's still new to him, so he's still getting used to the feel, the vibrations, the sounds, and basically making the car perform.
Everything is beautiful. It's just a matter of him getting seat time. We have more videos coming up. We got the Corolla back. We're going to be hitting that thing hard. Get it out the way. Got a lot of work to do on it. Carmemelllo did a great job on the fabrication.
Thank you to him. That's going to be all for now. Thank you guys for watching.
Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe. Um, it really does a lot.
Don't forget we do have our merchandise.
These shirts are for sale. Um, we're working on the website. Hopefully here in the next couple weeks we can have the website running. Um, if you want a shirt, you can email me directly at [email protected].
Or you can follow me on social media at emazda_. Send me a DM. Hey, what size you would like, where's the shipping to, and we'll get that over to you. as well as Labichi Racing. You can directly message that page and we'll take care of you guys. Shirts are awesome. We got plenty of them in all sizes. We got a bunch of them. We need to get rid of all of them. It'll be a huge support. Hey, I believe in God's timing all the way, man. Things happen for a reason. Little by little. When it's for me, it's for me. When it's for us, it's for us. When it's not, God will take care of us.
That's pretty much it. But for now, don't forget those like and comment subscribes. Leave a feedback on what you think, what you think we can improve on, what you would like to see more of, and see you guys later.
