This video provides a comprehensive update on global seismic activity and space weather conditions, highlighting that the Manila Trench in the Philippines is experiencing increased earthquake activity (4.4 magnitude), while the Cascadia subduction zone in Northern California shows signs of stress accumulation from slow slip events that could potentially lead to a magnitude 8.1-8.2 earthquake. The update also covers a newly discovered 370-foot asteroid approaching Earth, and reports that Kilauea volcano is showing signs of imminent eruption based on deformation data and gas observations.

Watch the Manilla Trench. Earthquakes kicking up on it today. Newly discovered large asteroid today.Added:
All right, good afternoon, folks.
Welcome back here to a Thursday update.
It is May 28th, 2026, 12:30 p.m. here, California time. Latest activity here on the earthquake 3D globe shows a 2.6 uh let's see where we're hiding at today.
Looks like across the Indonesia area.
Lot of deep activity here overnight.
Look at all those rings raised off the globe. Uh I do think there's something bigger brewing in the area. Also a little bit of migration northward here around the uh that looks like it's right on the Manila trench.
Uh 4.4 and quite a few threes in there as well. Western side here of the Philippines right smack dab on that subduction zone. Uh that area is very capable of producing a decent size earthquake. Got uh well 4.4 right now and some other earthquake activity. But as you can see, things are on the increase across this area. Uh so just be on guard.
Uh six pointers there from yesterday. We need to remove those because uh they've been off the map here for the last 24 hours, I believe. Let's see. Yep, those are no longer listed on there. So yeah, let's check out um the west coast here real quick where uh we did have some further activity overnight here into Northern California. I was chatting about this uh last night in the update and we had a couple more earthquakes come in. Uh crystal quakes up here across Northern California. Everything to do with the southern end here of the Cascadia subduction zone. a lot of uh transfer of stress uplifting of the land here because of that subduction zone and you get uh these inland quakes uh what pretty much what we've been seeing here in the last few days across Northern California. Now, this is nothing big, but it has everything to do with the subducting Wandu Fuka plate underneath the North American plate adding further stress and strain up not only at the locked area, but across inland areas here of California. We're starting to see that uh you know, a lot of stress taking place up here. This is a trimmer map here from the last week. We've had uh 408 epicenters of slow slip events here. little bit up north, but most of this trimmer count uh has been underneath Northern California. And what's going on here is that uh we're further uh stressing the locked area of the the Cascadius subduction zone. The trimmer counts occur right about here.
slow events. Uh and that is ultimately having effects here having an effect uh far as a crustal small quake activity there towards the surface you know directly above where the uh slow sub event activity is occurring which is what we're seeing across northern California right now. But can't, you know, help stress enough that that activity we're seeing down deep, the slow slip events is further building stress on that locked area of the southern end of the Cascadius abduction zone. I don't know. I had a weird dream about that thing going last night, but uh it uh is holding on steady, but we're seeing signs here of uh you know, things could get busy out here. Uh it's very possible we could see a partial rupture of the Cascadia subduction zone at any time and that would be up around a 8.1 8.2 magnitude.
Uh nothing major going on up there across Washington. Did have an earthquake there on the uh which fault system is this near Tacoma? Tacoma fault zone 2.8 from yesterday. Nothing new to report there for now.
So, aside from these uh crystal quakes up there across Cascadia, inland into Northern California, Bay Area, pretty quiet. Back to being quiet once again.
We had a couple earthquakes out there around the Hayward fault and the Calaveris fault zone here in the last couple days, but uh has since backed off once again. Little on the quiet side right now again. Uh further down south here across Southern California, a handful of smaller quakes. um two earthquakes today across the uh area. Uh it looks like it's going to be down in the Baja California area for a 2 or 3.0 and then a more recent 2.5 there north of Las Vegas just now. This is where they had a uh oh four pointer out here. I think it's been in the last 30 days. 4.4 back on the uh 29th of April along with some uh swarming activity out there. Nevada has been, of course, very seismically active here in a number of spots.
It's tapered off quite a bit here uh in the last week or so, but uh things can stir back up out there. So, just be on guard. I do see a 3.7 that struck out there outside of Fallon, Nevada early this morning. So, that's somewhat of a larger aftershock activity event, if you want to call it. This area has been hammered with earthquakes. And this is just a fraction of the earthquake activity that's occurred here in the last 30 days. We'd we'd have to go back a little bit further to see all of the movement that's taken place here was hundreds and hundreds of earthquakes out here. Uh but a 3.7 I would say that's the largest one here in the last probably the last two weeks or so. And this is just you know one area starting to see an uptick. Now we got the activity down south here. So watch the west coast, watch the plate boundary out here. That's the San Andreas fault. A lot of what goes on out here far as stress accumulation. Uh it can have an effect out here across the Great Basin area.
Uh Yellowstone National Park. Nothing showing up there, but you know what? I have a feeling we better double check it. May be wrong, but I just want to see if we got anything. There's Yeah, there's not a whole lot there. Um this is today's time period, 528.
Not a whole lot of earthquake activity as you can see. So, I was wrong. I just had a strange feeling. Well, I better double check it because one of these times here, we could have an earthquake swarm up there and USGS not report it.
And then I forget to check the seismograph stations, but that's not the case today. Perian Basin well defined out here far as oil fields go and earthquakes.
Um, nothing major going on across the eastern portion of the country. We did have a little earthquake out there around McCormick, South Carolina early this morning. A little small microquake at a 1.9.
Some further activity well off the coast here of Mexico that is south of Baja California as well. Right there on this on a uh a fractured boundary oceanic crust. U this is going to be this looks like it's uh just off of it there a little bit. This blue circle.
We did have a 4.1 out there uh yesterday.
So, it's roughly around this area right here.
Uh could potentially see some migration northward. A lot of times we'll see elevated activity out there in the Gulf of California here following uh these type of earthquakes out here off in the Pacific and these fracture zones. But uh let's see. We got anything stirring up out there right now? I don't see it.
Nothing uh really new to report across that area, but that is a somewhat of a moderate quake. 5.3. Is that the largest quake though in the last 24 hours? Let's see here. That is that's going to be the largest event.
And uh that's going to be the only five-pointer so far today. These two other five-pointers from yesterday, you know, before midnight, this is the only five-pointer. the largest quake here.
So, a little light in terms of uh you know, magnitude wise, we might be seeing areas of increasing activity around certain regions, but uh as far as large magnitudes go, it's a little quiet, but definitely keep an eye out there. The Manila Trench, Philippines area showing that hot spot of activity right now. New Zealand. Couple deeper activities underneath North Island. It looks like once again 3.9.
Got another deep activity event there across the Tonga Trench. 4.4.
Uh some older activity there from yesterday up in the Alaska area.
A perfect time for a train again. What in the world? I'm just timing this perfectly each day for a train to welcome itself onto the live stream.
Look at that three-pointer up north here on the Cascadia northern end.
Uh it's probably happening right about here. USGS not picking up on that earthquake, but uh it's up there. Looks like that is on the northern end there of the Cascadia off the coast there. The the uh the um Vancouver Island ranges there. We can get through this. It's only a Thursday.
Tomorrow's Friday. Had quite a bit of rain last night. Picked up just about half an inch here. It may not seem like a lot, but for almost June, that's kind of rare for this area. uh northern California in the Sacramento Valley. So, it was kind of nice. Helped keep things green around here hopefully for a little bit longer. Uh South America still getting hammered with a lot of earthquake activity down here across the Pchili trench.
This is where that 6.9 struck a few days back, but we're getting that migration southward here. Watch that. Seem definitely seems like the subduction zones are quite active right now around the planet. Nothing big going on, but remember those subduction zones can get some big big earthquakes there. Talking about 8.0 and greater the Mediterranean area and Middle East.
We got uh well just some smaller microquake activity out there today.
Nothing major going on across the Atlantic. Got a 4.8 down there across the South Sandwich Trench, but that's about it. Um any eruption yet in the uh Kilawaway volcano world? Let's go take a look here and see what we got. I haven't really seen much on social media there far as the uh any eruption goes, but you just never know. This was put out last night there, so no new update. Let's check out the deformation data. We're going up and uh we have uh you know we we've officially surpassed the um eruption window inflation time you know as far as the inflation level goes at Kilaway volcano compared to last time. So we we should be seeing that pretty soon here.
Let's check out the webcam. It might be a daytime event out here today. Good possibility this could pop today. Of course, the volcanic gas is there.
That's typical.
Uh but it looks a little bit heavier right now as far as the uh density of that volcanic gas goes. I don't see anything uh abnormal out there for now.
But yeah, eruption um should start there pretty soon. I'm I'm betting sometime today for sure in the daytime.
All right, space weather activity. Ah, just flatline. I gave off a little sigh there because I I want to see space weather, you know, kick up a little bit here. It's just no. No. Right now, there's nothing going on. We got multiple sunspots facing the planet quite a bit. But literally, you could have a hundred of these on the Earth facing side of the sun and they're still going to put out beflare activity unless they're magnetically complex out there.
And right now, I don't see anything that's uh harboring any major value for flaring activity right now. Everything's fairly stable. This massive area that was throwing off X flares back on the far side of the sun when it was out there a few days ago is um well, it not looking like much. Decaying a little bit.
This area back across the northeastern limb of the sun. Really not impressed with that area either. So, it's uh it's a slow day in the space weather world. As you can see, there's not a whole lot of sizzling going on here. We got some lowgrade seaflur activity, but nothing out there that uh is going to stir up any I don't think any of these sunspots are going to stir up anything uh in the mlare category. Thinking about 20% chance here for an Mflare. They these guys showing 40, but realistically looking at those magnetogram images, they're about 20% or so. Xflare, I don't see it. I don't see any Xflare potential at all. So, I'm thinking 1% or less.
Seaf flare, you know, we're getting these little bitty tiny ones. So, I guess a 95% chance here for a little another tiny sea flare or two. Uh, beautiful moon out there if we can find it. Uh, 90% chance or 90% chance of seeing the moon. I guess all depends on where you live. Uh illumination, that's a 90% illuminated there. No major roars there in the forecast for now. Uh let's give a quick glance here over at the asteroid department. See if anything's uh cooking out there.
Not literally, but uh far as close approaches go, that's a big one right there. Look at that. Newly discovered.
See, that's what I'm talking about. And that's actually awfully close for a big one.
See, they're finding all these new ones here. I'm worried about that. Look at this one. They just newly discovered 370 foot building size asteroid.
Uh, wow.
It seems like we're getting like an in an influx of asteroids here recently.
you know, there's always thousands of asteroids around the planet, but it seems like they're discovering new ones here, bigger ones, uh, more recently.
It's like, why didn't they see this one?
That's a, and that's a big one. Why did it take them, you know, just recently? I believe that's this week, maybe even yesterday, because this was not on here.
So, that's a that is a giant one there.
370 foot asteroid that could do some big time damage.
And same for this one here. And this one is underneath a million half a million miles for 210T airplaneiz asteroid newly discovered coming in today. I'm worried about one of these times we're going to wake up and uh newly discovered asteroid set to impact the planet today, you know, and then it panic ensues. It's just wouldn't be good. But, uh, like I say, they're they're, uh, getting some awfully close ones here and big ones.
Look at this one, too. 200 foot. This one's been tracked, though, since 2023.
Um, which is good. But, uh, look, you know, look at these new ones. They just recently discovered them.
That is crazy. Anyway, uh, nothing set to impact the planet today.
Uh, yes. Did they issue a severe thunderstorm watch up there? Let me see here. I was looking on the radar imagery and uh the storm prediction center was talking about issuing a severe thunderstorm watch for Oregon. Crazy.
Uh they haven't done it yet, but a good possibility they will. Um they got a 2% chance here for some tornado activity.
If I wasn't busy and it wasn't so I mean it's somewhat close to me, I would have drove up there today, but it's too late now uh to catch this weather event. Big- time wind it looks like. Some strong wind gust with those storms and some hail potential up there across Oregon and portions of Washington today. Uh we got a slight chance for some thunderstorm activity down here where I live. Like I said, we picked up half an inch of rainfall, which is decent. It it definitely uh soaked the top layer of the soil out here, which is uh good.
It helped keep things green out here in my neck of the woods. That's all thanks to low pressure cut off system here, which is now parked um just off the coast here of San Francisco.
You see the area of circulation right here. We got lightning out there it looks like popping up already uh in those uh thunderstorms that are just getting going out there in southeastern Oregon that will intensify throughout the day today. This moisture wrapping back around. So, it's kind of interesting how it's all coming from the east with that low pressure system here. Neat. Pretty neat to see. But, uh anyway, yeah, we got uh more chances of rain a little bit later on this evening here around my neck of the woods just outside of Chico.
So, nice to get some rainfall in May, let me tell you. And the end of May that at that.
All righty. Seismograph stations out there pretty quiet. Have a wonderful Thursday, folks. We'll catch you guys out here tonight for the uh Thursday night update. Have a good one.
