Due to a mysterious crime, a Japanese man continued to pay [music] the rent for an abandoned apartment for 26 years until he finally solved the mystery of his wife's murder. In 1999, Satoru found his wife murdered inside their home.
With no motive and no theft, the police closed the case as unsolvable, but Satoru refused to surrender. Holding onto the hope that advancing technology would one day solve the case, he decided to move with his son to a new apartment.
However, he left the crime scene completely untouched and continued to pay the monthly rent for the abandoned apartment to preserve the evidence until the killer could be found. Finally, in 2025, the Japanese police were able to match the DNA found at the crime scene to a local woman named Kuniko Yasufuku, who confessed to the crime. This came as a shock to Satoru as she was his high school classmate whose romantic feelings he had rejected despite her attraction to him.
