In forensic pathology, the absence of critical body parts (such as the neck structures) during an autopsy can prevent definitive determination of cause and manner of death, particularly in drowning cases where airway examination is essential. A preliminary autopsy report may state 'undetermined pending investigation' when key evidence is missing, highlighting the importance of complete body examination for accurate death investigation.

Noland Wells autopsy live stream
Added:[music] [music] [music] [music] [music] Hi Hi everybody. How are you today?
Uh hopefully we are going to catch the live stream for the Nolan Wells case. Oh, but let me set up first. Okay, it is I can't see anything.
Oh, there you are. Hi, Lisa.
Okay, there we go. We're up and running. All right. So, they are supposed to go on, come on, in 15 minutes, but they're saying expect a little delay.
So, hopefully we will catch them live.
Now, what are we about to watch? We're about to watch the live stream from Crump, the NAACP, Sharpton, and the parents, and then the parents defense attorney. I hope you guys can hear me. Uh, the defense attorney is the one that's going to represent the case.
Remember, Trump is just a civil attorney. He only deals in civil cases, which is the money, liability, and then I went down that whole list the other day about all of his wins. Okay? Uh he's pretty good at what he does. The reason you might think he's the main attorney is because his job is to put eyes on the case. So, he goes in front of the public. He's posting all this stuff on his social media. Um, and I will say it's a lot different than the Anthony case. So, uh, he is getting eyes on the situation. And then, you know, uh, Sharpton has his own te television show on MS Now. He always gets attention. But here's the thing.
So, this is the autopsy that is from their private investigation funded by Colin Kaepernick. This is not the official autopsy. So, I'm wondering why are they going before the official autopsy?
Maybe it's a way to force them to speed it up. Maybe it's a way for uh them to put out what's really going on. This is very very interesting. It's very very interesting. And it's never really heard of this happening before.
Yeah, never never heard of it happening before. Let me give a quick update really quick.
[groaning] Okay, so we're waiting. We're waiting.
Perry's going to join me.
I'm making sure.
Okay, let's see here.
This is really everybody has so many feeling. Everybody has a feeling that something's not right. Uh and that's not because uh we want it to not be right.
It's just the way that the boys are behaving that uh raises everybody's antennas.
Okay. Officials still haven't released the autopsy report as the investigation intensifies. The state findings remain pending. So, they haven't even wrapped Hi, Perry.
>> Hey, good morning everybody.
>> They haven't even wrapped up the real autopsy.
I'll keep going. It says uh the state findings remain pending which is why tomorrow's or today independent autopsy pressure matters. Jackson County Sheriff uh John Lead Better confirmed the FBI is insisting is assisting with the investigation. So the FBI is involved now. That's great. That's really really great. including revealing digital evidence and the investigators have interviewed the three friends who were with Wells plus more than 60 witnesses.
Okay. As the case remains active, Wells family also met with the local prosecutor who outlined the grand jury process. Okay. So, this is extremely early. All of it.
Okay, it feels like Trump's team is going a lot faster, but that could be to put the pressure on the officials.
It says, "New audio obtained by NBC captures Wells friends calling for help." What? We didn't miss this because their boat was taking on water on the return trip from Horn Island with a caller heard saying, "We're sinking.
Oh, what's that, Perry?
>> That that was me turning my volume up.
>> With a co a caller saying, "We're sinking. Can y'all please come?" before confirming everyone on board was safe.
Authorities have said Wells was not on the boat at the time of that call. Okay, I'm a little late cuz we had some other stuff to do.
It says here, so I'm going to find that tape. Let me keep reading really quick.
uh funeral and family statements.
Hundreds gathered at the Center Point Church in Ocean Springs with Sharpton and Crump flanking flanking Wells mother Christine Wells Wsley.
She told Mourers, "Share his story and never stop saying his name." Crump thanked Colin Kaepernick for funding the independent autopsy at that time and at the same event. Okay.
Ashley Cole, a uh I'm not going to say that. Um let's see this. Uh we got 10 minutes, you guys. So, let's see this that they're talking about.
Oh, I didn't think I was just reading the notes and I did not read it beforehand.
>> Yeah. I mean, it's been sort of a lot going on like but nothing's really coming from the investigation itself, >> right?
>> From the authorities, right?
>> At least they ain't coming out giving us no press conference telling us. Mhm.
>> But I just know when they first started they said no foul play right off the top like and that's sort of you know crazy >> here. Here let's hear >> go ahead Perry. Go ahead.
>> No basically saying that they haven't even did a complete or really got into the investigation to come out and say that. But go ahead.
>> I lost it. I clicked the wrong button.
But there's actually been a lot of stuff that's just is coming out just like yesterday some things came out now whether it's true or not because like I said the authorities ain't coming out saying these things but they're saying that that phone his phone could have been tampered with the messages from the fourth never showed up. Now whether it's true or not, I don't know. That's just what basically we sort of forced to go by hearsay, what's said and all this stuff. But it's sort of crazy to me just to look at the whole thing like what you said. Nobody's wanting nobody to get framed for something they didn't do. But you do want clarity on what actually happened.
You know what I mean?
>> Mhm. It was a drowning. It was a drowning. Let's just go with it. But we don't need pieces left out of it.
[snorts] >> So, uh, me and Carrie have been off for a couple days. Well, not off. I wish.
But we've Don't you wish? Aren't you tired? We have been It's crazy yesterday.
>> Let me hear what this says. It says this is his best friend. Let's listen.
Nolan was not just a best friend of me, but he was a brother. I grew up through elementary, middle school, high school, and even our freshman year of college.
You know, we talked on the phone all the time. We were really close friends. And uh I mean, Nolan was like a brother to me. And he Nolan lit up every room he walked in. He always had a smile on his face. He always had something good to say. I've never seen Nolan get in an argument with somebody and say bad things about someone. You know, there's a lot of people that talk crap nowadays, and Nolan was never that person.
Sweetest soul ever. And I mean, I had a great relationship with Nolan. I' I've never got an argument with Nolan. We were super close. And I I've never said or will ever have anything bad to say about Nolan Wells.
>> Yeah. And you guys, you said you you kind of grew up together.
>> Um, did you know his mom or did How was that? Because I saw in the media where it it appears that she may have said, at least I saw in part that she said as if she didn't know any.
>> Nolan Wells mother on July 20th, the day that she laid her son to rest, filed her first documents in court. Now, she found a >> Now, you know what's really weird to me?
So, that's the best friend allegedly because I haven't vetted this stuff.
>> Wait a minute. Oh, and posting that. I took down the other one. Oh my gosh.
Let's see if I can put this back up. Uh there wasn't this said earlier. Why didn't he come out earlier?
[snorts] What the problem is is that we're in the dark and we want answers.
Well, I'm not doubting that the friend is lying or anything that he's saying.
It very well could be true. But the problem here is transparency.
The problem's transparency. It feels like a cover up.
Especially for me, the GPS information.
>> Why aren't they just communicating with the public? Well, that's the whole thing too, right? Like I can understand like if you got pulled over, you might not want to speak unless you have an attorney, right? You know, if you feel like you being accused of something, but it shouldn't have been just simple questions. When have you seen Nolan and whatnot like that?
Shouldn't have been that hard of a question just to ask, you know, to talk about.
>> Yeah. right >> now. The guy you just seen on this thing, I'm not sure if that's one of the guys that was with him on the boat that day >> because it wasn't specified. It was just saying one of his friends.
>> But as far as I know, the ones that was the three that was with him lawyered up and I don't think they talking to nobody.
>> Let's let's keep listening to little stuff that I'm finding on the internet.
U let's listen to this one.
There's this. This is a Nolan Wells update, by the way. There's a new video that just surfaced from the day that Nolan Wells disappeared. All right, check this out. TMZ got this video and it is Timestep 223 that afternoon. I'll tell you why that matters. You can see in a second. You can see a young black man. He's on the back of that boat leaning down maybe cooler to get a drink or something. He's wearing swim trunks that appear to match what Nolan was wearing on that day on the boat. If you compare it to the picture of him with all the guys, the white guys in the boat. And this was taken about two hours. I said I would explain to you about two hours before his friends left the island without him. They left around 4:30. This was at 2:23 or so in the afternoon according to the metadata.
Now, the sheriff's office now has this video according to TMZ. the investigators have it. I don't know what that means yet, if they had spoken to people or what they're doing with it, but I do know this that every new piece of evidence deserve to be deserves to be looked at and taken seriously. Every question deserves an answer and we're going to keep following the facts wherever they lead because the journalism doesn't stop after the funeral is over and it doesn't stop when the cameras leave.
>> Did you know that So, someone in the chat told me to play the Judge Matthews interview. Let me see if I can get it up here.
And don't worry, you guys, we still got our eye on the press conference. And Perry, you can see it. Can you see it at the bottom or only I can't?
>> Um, only you can.
>> Okay, let's play this. Somebody asked said in the chat told me to play this with Judge Matthysse. Let's see what Judge Matthysse has to say. Wow.
I'm leaving. You all go back. I'm staying by myself.
No friends, just me wandering around.
And then you see that he had left his cell phone.
So you see, so you say in the boat and instead of taking it back to a friend who's on the island by himself.
And by the way, did you ask him how he was getting home?
So instead of going back, you couldn't be that far off cuz the phone right in the boat. Say an hour, hour or so, hour or two. If you're a real friend, you'll drive back on that recreational hour or two on the boat having fun to give your man his phone because if he's out there by himself, no question about it, 90% white in the state of Mississippi that has a history of demonizing and uh black men and killing them in the civil rights era.
Most of the civil rights killings occurred in Mississippi, including Mega Evers, including uh uh our dear young brother uh from Mississippi who was killed and several others. Uh and so we know that Mississippi has a history of uh demonizing and marginalizing black men. And so I don't believe he drowned. I believe he was killed.
If but I'm a judge that has to weigh all the evidence preliminarily.
That's what I see. You don't leave your friend on a island seeing that he has left his phone and not at least go back.
You came there with him. You left him there. You say cuz he wanted to stay.
But you notice that he's left his phone.
How was he going to get home in the first place? Wouldn't he need his phone in order to call his transportation or they should have known some of that?
He would have said, "I'm going to get home by such and such way." When hey man, I'm not coming. Y'all go ahead. I got a young lady. Okay, man. Is she going to bring you home?
How you going to get home? You don't ask any of those questions.
So, you must have asked those questions.
If you didn't, that's more evidence that uh I believe contributed to the reasonable suspicion. So, I'm with the prosecutor. How about that? So far, so you won't have to say that the judge is uh making conclusions uh without getting the evidence. The the the prosecutor has found enough evidence agreed to create a reasonable suspicion that a crime occurred. And now they're going to interview everybody and come up with some answers on whether to indict. So I'm there with the prosecutor so far.
Take it to the grand jury. Now I have to wait until what the grand jury comes back with before I support any uh charge or any uh lack of charges.
>> So you feel like it was foul play?
>> Yes. Yes. That it doesn't make sense.
Um, and it creates it creates a presumption when you don't have an explanation and someone ends up dead and you hear contradictory or stories that really aren't credible because they make no sense and you hear the same story from three three people.
Who knows? They may have told two or three different stories. We don't know.
We will know when that grand jury comes back. So that that's the case. Uh in that situ in that scenario, uh Nolan um a black man went uh on a boat ride to a pretty much resort island, not necessarily just a fun island off the coast of Mississippi. And four of them left and went and had fun and only three returned. They then found Nolan dead.
his three friends that he had come with in the boat had gone and left in the boat and claimed that Nolan stayed behind by himself.
And additionally, however, and this where the first question comes in with me, they say he left his cell phone.
They have his cell phone. They had it in their possession. Okay. So, if your buddy says to you, "I'm leaving, you all go back."
>> That's interesting. That's very, very interesting. Now, this is coming from a judge. He's a judge, >> so he knows how the law works, but he had an interesting well, he was telling the truth. Like, well, I would ask my friend, "Well, where are you going?" It's, you know, >> it's more or less like common sense, like judge, not a judge. Anybody would say, "Hey, you went to the mall with your friend, you drove him there, but then you just left them without asking any question." You know what I mean?
Like, >> come on. It's crazy.
Not only did he say that he felt that something was suspicious, Judge Masses just came out and said he feels that Nolan Wells is no longer with us. Damn, that's powerful. He's a judge for decades.
H Let me keep seeing if I can find something else. Okay, also chat.
Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on the uh press conference.
>> Still not going, not still not on, but everybody's still talking. Um, if you guys want me to do play anything, let me know in the chat because I've been doing other stuff related to YouTube [sighs] that's really going on for long, ain't it, Perry? It's like >> uh we're we're doing other uh things behind the scenes.
And that's why we're so tired. So, let me know.
Uh, it doesn't make sense. It just doesn't make sense. And that's we don't we shouldn't feel bad about asking questions. We shouldn't feel bad about Let me see what this is. Hold on.
Someone just sent >> I mean, put it this way. If this was any one of his friends that ended up this way, >> they parents would want questions asked.
You know what I'm saying? Like any parent would any parent would want answers.
Let's see.
Geez. It says here that uh Judge Matthysse gave a full 20 minute interview.
Wow.
So, we're basically just waiting. We're just waiting.
>> Yeah.
>> Wow.
>> What do you think happened? We can't even speculate because >> I mean Yeah. I don't know what happened, but it's like the lack of consideration for their so-called friend.
Like, who who does that? Like, go somewhere and do all this and like, well, I don't know. He just left, so so be it. I'm lawyered up now. I can no longer talk about it.
>> That's another thing, the lawyer thing.
Like, uh-uh. If something happened to my friend, I'm devastated. I'm can't talk, can't speak. I'm going in front of the cameras.
Their reaction was different.
And you've got all these people jumping on board with this story.
>> Mhm.
>> And not uh turning it into something that it it shouldn't be. Now listen, I'm a huge I was I was a huge Nancy Grace fan, but she is Why does she act like this?
Why is she like, Ever since I found out that she wasn't a true survivor and that she made that story up, >> Uhhuh.
>> I look at her different.
>> Yeah. Like off of it. Yeah. Huh? She was like, "We're going to find out." Maybe I should play it. Hold on. Let me play it.
>> You going to get to the bottom of this and as if she cares.
>> Nancy Grace's action sincere because we know she'll put anybody on her panel uh for clicks and views. Let's not forget the whole Diddy situation and what she was doing. Um, >> I wish she was a different kind of person. She's just >> She's [snorts] a tension star washed up and trying to reclaim the fame she had years ago when she just straight up lied.
>> Damn, Perry. Let me see. Let me see.
[laughter] Let me see this. Let's see what she's saying.
>> Was anyone else on the island when no one's body was found? Your answer is completely 100% accurate. But let me rephrase and refine my question.
You're saying the park ranger found him.
That leads me to believe there were no friends. There was no newly met girlfriend. So, am I left to believe that he goes out swimming all on his own and the friend girl leaves, the mates from school leave, everybody just leaves him out in the water and he dies and then just conveniently washes ashore.
Somebody just left him out in the water.
Does that make sense to you, Terrell?
Well, you know, being being a person that goes to this island and and several other areas that you can only get to by boat. We have some restaurants and bars in Louisiana that you can only get to by boat, which means you have to hitch a ride with somebody on a boat or that has a boat to get there, which a lot of things could go wrong in that scenario.
But as far as what we believe, I believe that Nolan went out there with a group of friends.
>> They were friendly obviously so because he was even out there. I mean, you got to understand to go to an island, you have to have a boat, which means you have to have friends, which you have to have people that kind of like you to even bring you out there. So, when Nolan got out there, the group of guys he was with, you know, they decided to come in a little bit early. They were having some Indian trouble in their boat, which is not uncommon. Happens a lot. Um, Nolan, for whatever reason, decided to stay on the island, which is not uncommon. He could have, you know, had this girl he was talking to, he could have just, for whatever reason, decided to stay. Not [clears throat] uncommon.
That doesn't give us any reason to think our play or anything was involved there.
The issue is when he stayed on the island, he had to hitch a ride back in with somebody. And there's where the issue becomes. Who did he hitch a ride back in exactly? How were these people connected to him? How did they know him?
And it's not uncommon for you not to know somebody at all and just say, "Hey, I need a ride back in." They say, "Yeah, come on. Get in the boat with us." So if I say, "Hey, Nancy, come on. Get in the boat with us." That means at that point we're responsible for you.
>> But but Todd, Todd, here's my issue.
>> He often told us that one day he wanted to have >> So you guys, I'm going to play this friend's video again because as far as I know, this is the only person that has came out in the friend group.
Hold on. Let's see. Whole thing is bizarre, isn't it, Perry? just what's going on. And I I agree with Judge Matthysse. We have to look at the history of Mississippi. Now, >> I'm not trying to down anybody from Mississippi, but we there's certain things we can't deny. And I believe in took place in Mississippi. They have a history of lying and doing black black people wrong. Let's listen one more time to the best friend one of the few people that have come out. [snorts] >> Nolan, I could describe Nylon in a million ways. I mean, Nolan was not just a best friend of me, but he was a brother.
You know, there's a lot of people that talk crap nowadays. And Nolan was never that person.
Because I saw in the media where it it appears that she may have said, at least I saw in part that she said as if she didn't know anything.
>> He often told us that.
>> That's fine and all, and I'm glad he came forward. But I want to talk to Warren, the guy that had the phone. Why didn't you turn it over? Why [clears throat] didn't you turn Why didn't you turn it over? I mean, this is the new era. We all know that's the first things that police look at is your social media and your phones.
And the mom had to hire or go through a special app to find out the location of the phone >> and how come I'm glad you came forward, best friend. I don't even know your name. Let me see what his name was. I'm glad that you came forward, but what took so long? What took so long?
>> But I noticed he's talking about the friendship like >> Oh, yeah.
>> When you say um coming forward, he looked like the guy like one of the guys on that little boat that a few minutes ago. But just because you a friend don't mean you was actually there. He could have been there. I'm not sure. Mhm.
>> But the whole thing is talking about a friendship and how great a guy he was and all this.
If he was one of the three guys that was there, Wayne, he's speaking of the last time he seen Nola >> instead of elementary, we grew up, we was in college together, all this [ __ ] like that. So, that's the part I don't know if he was uh one of the guys he was with on the boat. Maybe he was. I don't know.
Hold on. I'm gonna find out who he is.
This is weird. I still got my eye on it, Perry. Don't worry.
>> Okay, I'm wait. We're waiting for the press conference to start. Now, as of now, they're 13 minutes late.
And but they gave us a warning that they were running a little late.
Hold on, guys.
that another thing that people don't understand is uh big bodies of water like that are [clears throat] very dangerous, right? They're very dangerous. That's why I don't go to places like that that the only way in is through boat. I don't like stuff like that. I need to be able to run if something pops off.
Plus also too, there was no police presence over there. And I get it. Kids have a place. You go, you drink, you hang out, you be kids. That's kind of a dangerous situation. I wouldn't, if I was a mother, I wouldn't want my kid over there. I think about stuff like this all the time.
>> Yeah. But I mean, >> okay, so they're saying that the guy that we heard talking, his name is Warren Hudson, self-described as Nolan's best friend, who was on the July 4th boat trip, broke his silence in the New York Post yesterday. Oh, that's New York Post. He said rumors that he was involved in Wells death are crushing him, telling the Post, "It's a sick world we're living in. There's no facts out, just a lot of rumors. He's part of the group that left the island before Wells went missing. No witnesses have publicly reported seeing Nolan after 4:30 p.m. Now, let me let me pull this up. This is the guy that was in possession of the phone.
I'm gonna need him to do a a interview.
I'm gonna need him to do an interview.
>> So, uh, let me see. Hold on. Well, let me double check. Make sure. Yep, they're still not there. I'mma need him to do an interview.
>> You [clears throat] right.
>> Uh, live interview, not print interview. And I know that probably feels like, well, I said something. Enough isn't enough for the public. That's right. Because now we're concerned. So, we're going to need you to come forward, sir. We're very concerned.
It just And why? Because listen, when you do a print interview, it's it just doesn't come across the same way a live interview would do. Now, all the stuff you're saying shouldn't Can't you Well, let me see if it's going live. Hold on. Nope. Still not live.
Let's see here.
I'm going to need you to do a live interview, sir.
Nolan Well's best friend, devastated by teens unaliving and hurt by foul play rumors. Uh, a key person who was among the last to see Nolan Wells alive, has broken his silence, and he's gutted by the entire situation, including the blame.
Warren Hudson, well self-described best friend. What does self-describe mean? Okay, let me keep going. Who was among those on the fateful Fourth of July boat trip before the teen went missing says the rumors he was involved with Wells death are crushing.
It's a sick world we live in. He told the New York Post, "It's terrible. Nolan was my best friend. Now, everybody's saying that Nolan was their best friend, and a lot of people all of a sudden is the best friend. As you know, Nolan's disappearance after those friends left and his body was found July 6. That's right.
[gasps] So, Judge Matthysse is basically saying that he was unal alive [clears throat] by some type of foul play and not a drowning. Let me keep going. Uh, no witnesses have at least publicly reported seeing him after 4:30 on uh, 4th of July. The boy's parents laid him to rest Monday. Oh, we missed it. Monday at the Center Point Church in Ocean Springs, Mississippi in a service officiated by Reverend Al Sharpton, where he and Tyler Perry each offered 50K for information leading to a conviction in the Nolan's unali >> and then Terrell Owens tossed in 25 more thousand. So like the reward did Yeah.
>> From Is he from Mississippi or Alabama?
>> Oh, no. I I don't know which one.
Somewhere down there.
>> Okay, here it is. It says here there's also Jayvon Williams. This is the black kid. Uh 17. He was also considered Nolan's best friend. Uh was on a different boat, but saw Nolan on the island that day. He oh >> he just gave us a two-minute warning.
>> Okay, cool.
>> Oh boy, this is going to be I'm nervous. I'm nervous because there's a reason you held this press conference.
I don't want to jump the gun.
Anyway, uh Jayvon came out and said that the story didn't make any sense. And then he came out the next day. Um, another friend came out. Tristan Shepard claimed that the voice in the viral video is his own, not no one's. Oh, wow.
And said he's cooperated with the investigators. So, multiple friends have come forward.
This guy, it looks like his name is Tracon. T R A C E S S T I N Sheepard saying that that's not Nolan's voice on the boat.
Oh boy. Let's just hear what they have to say. I'm going to need them to hurry up. So, we just got a two-minute warning, you guys, um from the representative of the NAACP.
We're all ready to go.
We just want to hear what's going on, >> right?
>> How what are your feelings, Terry?
>> Well, you know, I I don't know. I mean, like, at the end of the day, >> we need to hear something about what's happening, right? And the lack of information is gotten everybody >> jittery, you know, running around just >> speculating, >> right?
>> But to find out what actually happened to the body, what was the the findings?
>> Now, the only thing we got from other people is no foul play.
They just don't you ain't really investigated to come up with no foul play. You got to be able to tell me something that you investigated to, you know, to get to that point. But I I sort of think if they showing this preliminary uh autopsy thing, >> they probably gonna come with it wasn't just a drowning.
I think they found marks and stuff on his body that don't that don't consist with just drowning.
>> Now, that's what they're saying.
Remember these ladies forward?
>> Uh these ladies came forward and said that they saw the body. He was swollen.
He looked like he was in some kind of physical altercation. That's why I need to listen to this press conference. I want official information. Speculation is cool and necessary. Speculation is necessary because it puts eyes on the situation. But now I want to hear something official.
>> So let's And this is not the don't get it twisted, you guys. This is not the official autopsy itself. It's a preliminary uh autopsy paid for by Colin Kaepernick. And now you're saying uh yeah, just for the autopsy. And then other people have donated. Uh Tyler Perry paid for the funeral. You said to0 put uh put in 50k.
>> Oh yeah. 25k like for like reward for anybody with information on what happened because they basically saying it's too many people there.
>> Yeah.
>> Not for nobody not to see anything. You know what I'm saying?
>> So they putting forth this money.
Hopefully somebody will come and tell us what they see.
>> Yeah.
Hurry up. I want to hear what's going on.
because we've already been live 45 minutes.
So, uh I'm anxious to see what what they say cuz as of now, like you know, people put down the blogs. Oh, there's rumors, there's speculations. The blogs keep a Did you hear that? It sound like a mic was I thought I was going crazy.
>> [laughter] >> The blogs are what keeps a story alive.
So people want to down the blogs and all of this and you guys are making it what it's not. Okay. Well then prove us wrong. That's all we're asking. We got to keep this situation alive.
[sighs] Just can't believe what's going on here.
>> Because maybe they found something different now.
than what they're getting from the investigators or from that's not adding up with some of the stories they've been told. You know what I mean?
>> I'm sure at the time during the EMTT Teal situation.
Okay, hold up.
>> Thank you.
Looks like they're testing the mic.
>> Okay, >> hurry, hurry.
I'm anxious, you guys. I want to hear what they're getting ready to say.
I want to hear it now. Perry, you just seen the friend.
Uh, >> right.
>> He see Did he seem sincere to you? Well, I mean, look, it's hard for me to say whether he's sincere or not >> because he basically just talking about his friendship in his eyes, >> right, that he had with Nolan. The thing is, I'm not saying Nolan was a was not a likable guy and all that stuff. We want to know what happened on the fourth.
Why aren't we talking about things that happened recently, not how you grew up and you liked them so much?
>> No, I'm I'm basically saying this.
It's hard to judge whether he's telling the truth or not.
>> Because we ain't talking about what actually happened.
>> Yeah.
>> And of course, it's it's hard to say because he could be telling the truth and that's how he feel and he don't know what happened to him. Maybe he was separated or maybe something else happened to Nolan with another group, but he don't know about it. Right? That could be a possibility.
>> But I've seen cases where somebody's unal alive and the spouse lead the charge, the search party, and they the one did it >> right. [laughter] >> Do you understand what I'm saying? Like, so >> that is irrelevant. We want to know if you can remember how great it was, you going through elementary and all this. What happened on the fourth >> a couple of weeks ago?
>> Mhm.
>> If you want to tell a story, tell that story.
That's me. So, I can't tell whether he lying or not, but [sighs] >> I got my eyes on the situation. When they go live, we will go live. Uh, but I'm also looking at more updates.
Um, so there's this guy. There's this guy. I don't even know his name, but let me just not mention him because, you know, bloggers be getting in their feelings.
>> Yeah, >> it's taking so long. Hurry up, please.
Yep.
>> I mean, because things like autopsies can can the findings and stuff if they're done correct and if it's not, you know, misleading or something like that. At least it tells a story.
>> Here, let's listen to Secret Service Sam. He said something about another >> interview. Hold on.
Okay, that didn't work. Hold on.
>> Somebody said it's on.
>> What?
>> Uh, let me check now. See if I can find something.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Go do that.
>> Oh, okay. You got it.
I guess.
>> Good morning.
>> Uh my name is Tron Williams, uh senior vice president of marketing communications with the NAACP. Uh we are here because a demand was made.
a demand for transparency, a demand for answers, and a demand for ultimate justice on behalf of Nolan Wells. And that demand must be honored.
>> Amen.
>> For that, we are honored to pause even for a moment to respond accordingly here at our national convention. Momentarily, you will hear from renowned civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, uh, who will provide updates on the findings of the independent autopsy that was conducted, um, on in the death of Nolan Wells.
Immediately following that, we will take questions um, from credentialed media.
We'll attempt to answer as many questions as we can. However, we want to be respectful of the fact that we do have additional programming that is going on to conclude our convention today as well. So, we're asking that all press and media, if you're asking questions, please be concise. Uh, give your name, give your media credential, um, and we'll go from there. Um, but before he comes, uh, we will have the leader of the NAACP, President Derek Johnson, to give opening remarks.
President Johnson, >> what individuals are saying as opposed to investigate the individuals who gave you the information because you don't know who was involved or not involved.
>> Amen.
>> And so narrative matters in this case.
And we're saying that in in Nolan Well's situation, the narrative should not be there was an accident before there was an investigation.
The narrative should not be the words of individuals who went on the boat to the island with him, but they came without him, but with his cell phone. And you don't investigate those individuals.
>> Without accusing anyone of anything other than the state of Mississippi and local officials, we're accusing them of being derelch in their duties.
Wow.
to follow up and to ensure that regardless of what happened that there was the proper investigation so that this family and that community could be assured that if anyone was involved they would be held accountable and if it was in truly an accident that the families will have the necessary answers that any family deserve in this situation.
>> Amen.
I want to bring to the podium attorney Benjamin Crump, a friend of mine who have stepped in to take the case and in support of the family to ensure that they get the answers that they deserve and that local officials and anyone involved will be held accountable to this family, to that system because we are all parents, siblings to loved ones who should not be confronted. with this reality. Tony Cro, [applause] thank you very much, President Derek Johnson, uh, for your leadership, for the leadership of the Mississippi Conference of NAACP and being there during the homegoing services to help the family go through what no parents want to go through.
Thank you to Chairman Leon Russell, uh, my longtime mentor from Florida who helped raise so many of us. Thank you for always [applause] being there.
Chairman Russell, as President Johnson said, I'm attorney Ben Crump representing the family of Nolan Wales. But it's not just me. It is a team effort of incredible dedicated lawyers and investigators and parillegals. Um, attorney Lisa Park, attorney who you'll hear from in a few minutes, attorney Eric Herz, attorney Gary Bin, attorney uh, Camila Moore, uh, Cliff Jones, Jared Preston, Alan Williams, a whole team of people who are committed, as I said, President Johnson, on this ferocious ious search for the truth of what really happened to Nolan Wales.
But before we begin to discuss the intricacies of the preliminary findings of the independent autopsy, we think it would be appropriate for you all to hear from the people who knew Nolan Wales best so they can thank you themselves and tell you about the trials and tribulations that they have been enduring since July 4th.
July 4th will never be the same for them.
Um, I bring to the podium Nolan Wells, mother and father Christine and Elmore.
Please give them a warm NAACP welcome.
[applause] >> [cheering] >> First of all, I want to say thank you all so much. Um, thank you to President Johnson as well as Chairman Russell. Um, this has been a difficult journey. Um, losing a child, it truly breaks your heart. It is a pain that is just, you can't measure it. Um, especially someone like Nolan who brought so much joy and and light and life to everyone.
Um, you don't find too many genuine people like him. So to lose that light at such a young age under these circumstances has been absolutely difficult. Um which is why we've gone this route. There's so many people out in the public asking all of these questions. But the only question that we have is what happened to our son?
That that is the only question.
Um, we have consistently been degraded by the public. There's been questions about our parenting, our GoFundMe, um, this, that, and other. I've been called a racist. I am a healthc care provider and I take my job very seriously. I love everyone. Um, and it's just it's been difficult for us, but we are leaning into our faith, leaning into one another, also leaning into all of you. There are not enough thank yous, not enough appreciation um for what you guys have done for us. And we do, we love you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you.
And so it is our hope that our local authorities will now we got two different things going on here. I see do see another link. I've been watching listening to you guys with Al Sharpton. Let me switch over to that because he's speaking now. Let me see because I'm on the NAACP uh site. Let's see this one.
>> 26.
>> No, that's not it.
>> Let me go back to where I was. Hold on.
>> Okay.
here why we have asked for this help. Um so again, thank you all so much for your support. Um we appreciate you. We really do.
[applause] Um, every day I wake up, it's a new challenge knowing that a part of me I will never talk to, I will never hold, I will never play around with or get mad at is not here anymore.
Nolan brought a lot of joy to our family. He was the most he was the wittiest one out of everyone.
The clown.
Um he he he loved to put in the work because he wanted to be the best. He wanted to make me and his mother proud. And we were so proud of him just for being the person that he was. He was loving. All his teachers knew him but loved him. He walks in the room his his aura you automatically drawn to it.
Um never met an enemy and if they were they would eventually be friends cuz they would eventually bond bond and it's it's going to be hard. Um, [clears throat] he's should be at football practice right now.
>> Yeah.
>> Calling me out to practice. Dad, I I made this play or I made that play or I get a text with three or four videos of him doing this, making running this route, making this block. And what you think, what think I should do? And I will give my honest because I always tell if anyone is going to be totally honest with you, it's going to be me.
And it's not because I'm being mean, but people outside of your family are going to tell you what you want to hear. I'm going to tell you what you need to know to make you better.
Um, it's going to be hard for our family from from here on out. Um, and like I like I said, every day is a is a challenge.
We're going to miss our son. And like my wife said, we just want honesty. We want to know what happened to our son because the things that you're telling us that's not the character of our son. We know our son. I understand you know our our children would do things that you know that kind of dumbfound sometime but the things that we're being told there wasn't Nolan.
So please keep us in your prayers. Keep them in your prayers and we're going to keep pushing and fighting until we find answers. Thank you guys for your love and support.
[applause] Thank you so much, Christine and Nolan.
Uh Christine and Elmore, Nolan's mother and father. Uh before we start to um go over the preliminary uh findings from the independent autopsy, we will hear from attorney Lisa Park to tell you about who uh was the forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy. Attorney Lea Park.
Thank you.
Dr. Roger Mitchell could not join us today, but we felt it important before we reveal and unfold this report that you understand who conducted this autopsy.
Dr. Roger Mitchell is a physician and board certified forensic pathologist with two decades of experience.
He currently serves as the president of the National Medical Association, which is the oldest and largest group of black physicians in the US.
[applause] Most recently, he also served as president of Howard University Hospital, chief medical officer of the Howard University faculty practice plan, and chair of the department of pathology.
Before joining Howard, he served as chief medical examiner for Washington DC from 2014 to 2021 and is later as interim deputy mayor for the public safety injustice.
Dr. Mitchell has conducted and managed thousands of autopsies and is nationally recognized for his work at the intersection of medicine, public health, and justice. And for this case, we sought out the very best and we are proud to be working with the very best.
Thank you, [clears throat] Attorney Park.
I again want to express our gratitude to President Johnson, Chairman Russell, and the NAACP because civil rights is more important than ever in the United States of America today.
And so we thank you for the civil rights leaders [applause] and I I do understand there's a lot of news going on in America today. Um you know I woke up to them saying LeBron James is going to announce where he's going to play uh basketball next year.
But I'm very happy that the media said this story is just as important as just as important.
and and I'm sure LeBron James and Rich Paul and um you know Stefon Kerry and Draymond Green um Jaylen Brown and Bead Maxi Giannis Bam and many other players in the National Basketball Association will all agree that our children's lives are far more important than where LeBron or any other player will play next year.
And so that's why I thank you all for being here because this news is as important as any news in the United States of America. finding out why is Nolan Wales dead and and I want to thank you all who have called the call center.
I want to thank Reverend Al Sharpton.
I want to thank Mr. Tyler Perry. I want to thank Mr. Terry Owens for putting up the $125,000 reward for anybody out there who have information so we can get to the truth of what happened. I mean any videos and we've gotten so many videos President Johnson from that day from young people and we want them to have the courage to come forward with the pictures. What you heard I know people said there were a lot of disturbances out there. Some believe they it involved Nolan. All of those things are important to get to the truth of what happened. The fact Yeah.
The fact, Christine, that the United Cajun Navy uh are so forthcoming. The fact that they told us, we haven't heard from any of their uh local officials, that Nolan was found face down fully clothed.
Well, that's significant to us because the last time we saw him on the videos, he was without a shirt. So, at what point did he put on a shirt? Somebody saw something. Somebody know something.
THERE WERE ALMOST 300 400 people.
Somebody know something.
So, Scott X, we're we're trying to just make sure people understand that you can call the Nolan Wells tip line uh at bencrunk.com.
We will gladly listen to you take any information as we try to put together this puzzle of what happened to Nolan Wales. And today we're going to add some more parts to this puzzle.
Uh because my legal team and I, we stand for truth no matter who it implicates [snorts] >> or who it exonerates.
>> We stand for justice, no matter who it convicts or it acquits.
>> Yeah. And we stand for transparency.
Because we got eyes that can see it. And we don't need government officials having to narrate it for you and me.
>> We can see it for ourselves.
>> Transparency.
That leads to the truth. The truth is the foundation for accountability and justice.
>> And that's all we're seeking. as Christina Elmore said from day one. So with that, um, and and Christina Elmore, if you all want to sit, we about to go through this autopsy. I know it may be a little emotional.
[snorts] You're welcome to stand up.
Let's go through this.
As we uh begin to present the preliminary findings of the autopsy. We want to especially thank Mr. Colin Kaepernick for not thinking it robbery to pay for the autopsy.
This is the first time. Let's go with the first one.
So, where's the Oh my god.
>> And auto talks will be provided um for the media at press atbencrump.com.
And so, Mr. Jones, keep that. I don't need this one. Just need this one here.
So, pull this up.
So, Dr. Roger Mitchell, board certified forensic pathologist, uh performed a preliminary report on the death of Nolan Xavier Wales. He conducted and I mean presented this report on July 19th, 2026.
Um preliminary report, second autopsy, death of Nolan Xavier Wales. cause of death undetermined pending investigation.
And we'll explain that as we go through the report this morning. The manner of death undetermined pending investigation.
Statement of examination. This forensic pathologist was retained to perform a second autopsy examination on the body of Nolan Xavier Wales.
Name of deedent Nolan Xavier Wales. Age 18 years old. Race black. Gender male.
Date of death unknown.
Second autopsy date was performed on July 10th, 2026.
Preliminary findings and this is significant focal [snorts] area of red discoloration in the soft tissue of the back of the head. the oipa region. He said the ideology is unknown at this time.
He said the body was received after the initial autopsy.
He said the body had marked decompens comp decompensation.
He said corona incision of the scalp, brain removal, Y-shaped incision of the anterior torso.
And he talked about the organs being removed as is common as is common accompany in the body in the body cavity. And that when you have a autopsy, the organs are removed from the body and they are dissected and examined and then they are put back in a bag with inside the body. So when they are buried, their remains will all be with them. But in this occasion, if there's going to be a second autopsy, then the organs are put in the body cavity so the second pathologist could be able to examine the organs as well.
Very significant um for Dr. Mitchell was that the anterior inner neck structures were absent, not received with the body.
And we'll explain that in just a minute.
Um, and then it talks about the additional perform the additional procedures performed during the second autopsy. And we'll go into the paragraphs on that there cuz he explains it better in his narrative. So where's the first page of the discussion? Not the diagram yet. You keep diagram over there.
So he talks in the preliminary discussion opinion. This forensic pathologist identified several limitations during the second autopsy that create barriers to establishing a definitive cause and manner of death for Nolan Xavier Wales. And and that's important. He talks about the fact that we didn't get to see the body when it was first recovered like the medical examiner working for uh Mississippi would have seen it. He talked about the second autopsy performed on Nolan Wales reveal mark decompensation or changes.
Mark decompensation can obscure the presence and absence of bruising on the skin surface, especially during a second autopsy examination. What he's saying because the body was so decomposed that you couldn't tell if there was bruises or abrasions on the body when he received it um on the 10th of July.
For these reasons, additional dissection procedures not performed during the first autopsy examination were performed to rule out potential blunt force injuries responsible for the death. These procedures included facial dissection, posterior head and neck dissection, dissection of the ribs, the pelvic, dissection of the subcutaneous and deep soft tissue, dissection of the back, the buttocks, the arms and legs.
The He did all of this to rule out things. He ruled out there were no fractures or deep tissue injuries identified. This was very important because he wanted to be very thorough and very transparent because transparency is the key to getting to the answers of why Nolan Wales is not with us.
So he did that there and was very straightforward, very open, very open.
He says, "However, dissection of the back of the head during the layered posterior neck dissection revealed a 12x 8 in focal area, a rare discoloration in the deep soft tissues overlaying the oipital bone and He talked about how he found red discoloration when he cut open into the back of his head towards those oipital bone and he saw the red discoloration and we actually saw the pictures of it.
It's significant. you you can't help but notice why is this dark red here in the back of his head. And so he was important to note that in his report.
He said that ideology of this finding is unclear.
There are no lacerations of the overlaying skin nor fractures of the underlying skull.
These findings are inconclusive for permortal injury due to the body due to both the extensive decomposition and the absence of associated injuries.
This finding, however, is significant enough to be highlighted in this preliminary report for further investigation.
It is important to reiterate that the finding could not have been observed in the first autopsy because the posterior head and neck dissection were not performed.
He said another limitation move this back here. Another limitation faced by this forensic pathologist was the absence of the anterior internal neck structures.
The trachea and the laryng cartilage, the thyroid horn and the hyoid bone were not received with the body.
So he's saying that the throat was not received with the body when he got Nolan Wells body in Washington DC to perform the second autopsy.
And so let's discuss that with what he said about that.
He said it is assumed that the initial pathologist retained these structures for additional evaluation.
He said the retention of the anterior neck structures during an initial autopsy is a common forensic pathology practice. He was chief medical examiner for seven years in Washington DC and he said that if they had concern about throat or any fracture or compression of the throat they too will hold them back.
He doesn't know why they held the throat back but he said the throat was not with the body of Nolan Wales when he received it in Washington DC to perform the second autopsy.
He said, "Nevertheless, a posterior neck dissection performed without review of the anterior neck structures is incomplete.
Therefore, this pathologist cannot rule out injury to the neck as a contributing a contributor or a cause of death." He said he would need to have the medical examiner in Mississippi allow him to review the throat. That's why he said his autopsy is undetermined pending investigation. Remember, it's about transparency.
Because the initial autopsy rightfully removed and dissected each organ, there are additional limitations inherent in the second autopsy of Nolan Wales. The most significant of the limitations was the inability to directly observe the airway and the lungs for water and directly observe the stomach for gastric contents.
He said it is very significant as to what the initial forensic scientists who got to review the body when it was recovered.
We have heard from our call center people saying the body wasn't water logged. Well, we need to know those things. But unfortunately because the body was decomposed and the organs have already been dissected, those are things we can only get from the initial autopsy. So therefore, again, the manner and cause of death is undetermined until further investigation. We are hopeful that the Mississippi Medical Examiner would give Dr. dementia a opportunity to see their photographs and their observations to the condition of Nolan Wells body closer in time to July 4th.
That is very important and we have to continue to demand transparency.
President Johnson.
In addition, the original toxicology results have not been received at the time of this report and we continue to wait for the toxicology to come back because again that will be part of the investigation into uh Nolan Wells autopsy by Dr. Mitch. It is significant to note that there's many things that go into toxicology that only Dr. Mitch would be able to appine upon and medical experts can appine upon and he feels the proper place to do that is before a grand jury in a courtroom. And so we would hope that the district attorney would present Dr. Mitchell before the grand jury as well.
We want all relevant information to be heard by the grand jury.
Lastly, in cases where a death has occurred in or around a body of water.
This is this is important.
Lastly, in cases where a death has occurred in or around a body of water with suspicion of drowning, it is important to confirm how that person entered the water.
This is the crux of the matter.
This information is especially important for those deaths of persons who can swim.
As in the case with Nolan Wales at the time of this report, this forensic pathologist does not know the condition of Nolan Wales.
He did not know whether he was conscious or unconscious when he entered the water.
He said that would be significant.
He said he did not know whether he was forced into the water or unforced into the water. He said that would be significant. So he said the condition of Nolan Wales before he entered the water would be the crux of the matter. It would be of utmost importance to being able to determine a cause and manner of death.
He said definitive circumstances of death are required to determine the manner of death.
For these reasons, this pathologist cannot rule out and let me really call your attention to this. For these reasons, this pathologist cannot rule out if any intervening nonacal factors contributed to or caused the death of Nolan Wales.
Understand?
He's saying based on the examination of the body, he cannot rule out foul play.
That is significant.
with the following questions still outstanding.
Number one, what were the circumstances that led to Nolan Xavier Wales entering the water?
Number two, what was the body position when it was found? We know that a member of the United Casian Navy said that he was face down and he was fully clothed.
Number three, where's there water in the airway?
Remember he talked about the lungs and the airways where they filled with water.
Number four, is there any evidence of injuries to the anterior neck structure?
We got the autopsy without his neck. We got the body without his neck at the time of the second autopsy.
Number five, is there any evidence of any inner cranial hemorrhaging?
He said that is going to be very significant things that he could not observe at autopsy that the initial medical examiner would have been able to observe.
Number six [snorts] was the composition of the what was the composition of the stomach contents? He talks about that being important because when was he found? How long had he been in the water? How long had it been since his last meal? All those things become relevant factors when you're trying to do a thorough and impartial autopsy.
And number seven, what was what are the toxicology report findings?
He said the best classification again for the cause and manner of death for Nolan Xavier Wales is undetermined pending investigation.
This forensic pathologist reserves the right to review and incorporate additional forensic pathology information into his opinion as it becomes available. He says, "The above opinions are expressed to a reasonable degree of medical certainty." Dr. Roger A. Mitchell, July 19th, 2026.
And we know that, as I said, this is only another part of the puzzle.
And even though it tells us significant information, we still have more questions than we have answers at this time. And we will continue to press forward and persist, Christine Elmore, with getting the answers to these questions because as you Yes.
We will persist, persist, persist because as Christine and Elmore and Attorney Park and I talked this morning, we know that there are so many conflicting stories.
The fact that she said him being found face down. The fact that we have other videos where people who have called said that is Nolan who is in some kind of uh dispute with others. We're looking at all of these things. the fact that the GPS tracking of the boat is being questioned by many.
We trying to dot every eye and cross every tea because we understand that when our children lives are at stake, it matters. Not just what happened, but what we do in the aftermath of them being taken away from us. And just like the NAACP stood up when another tragedy in Mississippi taking the life of young Emit Tal, we will stand up for Nolan Wales.
Just like the NAACP and civil rights leaders stood up when another Mississippi sign was taken in Mega Evers.
>> We will stand up for Nolan Wales.
And just like too many of our young people, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, >> Bana Taylor, Ahmad Arbory, Botham Jean, Terrence Crutcher, Stefon Clark, Sandra Bland, Aiana Jefferson, >> Sterling, Alton Sterling, Eric Gardner, George Floyd, the Tamir Rice, the young people who I was trying to focus on.
Gary, we stand up until we get the truth. Until we get justice for Nolan Wales. Justice for Nolan Wales. Justice for Nolan Wales. Justice for Nolan Wales. Justice for Nolan Wales. Justice for Nolan Wales.
>> We will ask if Christine and Elmore and President Johnson can ch come back and join us on the stage. and Travon, we will have you coordinate questions and answers for us or President Johnson or Attorney Park and I. I will say this as President Johnson comes to the stage. I was sharing this with him and Chairman Russell Christine Clark. Um, God knows we wish you had you at the Department of Justice.
Christine Clark, as I was sharing with President Johnson and um Reverend Al and others, this is so important that we continue to talk about Nolan Wales and what happened to him and that we get attention on him because in getting attention on him, it brings attention, Cliff Jones, to other cases that are not getting their attention as of yet. But I'm so grateful to Christine and Elmore because they said whatever we can do, not only to help our son, but to help these other young black boys who was killed uh Novey 4th holiday.
And and I want to take a moment before we answer your questions to talk about two other young black men.
both 18 years old who were killed in extraordinary ways that are very similar to Nolan.
President Johnson, 18-year-old Daniel Irvings went on a fishing trip uh out on a fishing boat with two other young men.
He was the only black >> [clears throat] >> It is alleged that he end up accidentally drowning, but his two white friends got his cell phone and threw it away, got his clothes and threw it away, and then went and deleted all of their text messages with him and social media.
Sounds familiar?
and they've only been charged with tampering with evidence.
And his mother is crying out that they should be charged with murder because if they will lie about his cell phone and his clothes and deleted messages, then they will lie about what really happened to Daniel Urban.
And then there's the matter President Johnson Christine Clark of 18-year-old Sterling Smith. I'm sorry, Tyler Smith.
Tyler Smith on 4th of July was at a house party with about 10 other people. He was on the only black person at the house.
He somehow ends up shot in the head.
Dead.
Some of the friends get rid of the gun.
The police show up. They tell the police it was a accident. It was an accidental shooting that they were playing Russian roulette and Tyler Smith end up getting killed and apparently Christine Clark, President Johnson, the police just took their word for it.
His mother and grandmother are insensed.
They asked the police, "Did you do a gunshot residue test on his hands?"
And the reason they said they had to call us like Daniel Urban's and Noah Nolan Wales family because the police told them, President Johnson, that there was no need to do gunshot residue on his hands or any of the other people in the house because I don't understand this logic, but they said if we they were playing Russian roulette then all of them would have gunshot residue on their hands so we don't need to do gunshot residue test.
>> It makes no sense whatsoever.
So they are taking the word of these 10 people that your son just killed himself and you don't have to worry about doing any investigation or testing forensically anything. Just take our word for it. NOW, CAN YOU IMAGINE IN ANY THREE OF THESE SCENARIOS had the survivors BEEN YOUNG BLACK MEN AND THEY WERE WITH A YOUNG WHITE MAN AND HE ENDED UP DEAD, WHAT KIND OF INVESTIGATION WOULD THERE HAVE BEEN?
WHAT KIND OF INTERROGATION WOULD THERE HAVE BEEN? WOULD THEY HAVE EVER BEEN ABLE TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY UNTIL THOSE QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED? WELL, JUST LIKE YOU WOULD DO A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION FOR YOUR CHILDREN, WE WANT YOU TO DO A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION FOR OUR CHILDREN.
WE DON'T WANT ANYTHING SPECIAL. WE JUST WANT EQUAL JUSTICE.
equal justice.
And so with that, I'll turn it over to Trarevon to lead us in the final session.
>> We have a few questions. We have my colleagues on either side with microphones. Please announce your name and your media outlet if you have any questions. We're going to be quick because we have other programming going on in real time. We'll go here first.
>> Oh, thank you. Hi everybody. Samantha Chapman, ABC7 Chicago. um you just unveiled a comprehensive um outline of the independent report. Can you summarize for our viewers because there's a lot to take in, a lot of information. So in summary, can you uh succinctly tell us what we can take away from this report and also if you can provide more details about the neck?
>> I heard a lot of people behind me gasping when that detail was mentioned.
Yeah, let let me try to be very comprehensive. Um, as Dr. Roger Mitch said that the focal area of red discoloration in the soft tissue soft tissue of the back of the head the occipital region is significant because he cannot determine why you have that red discoloration in the back of his brain. That's significant. He also talked about Mr. Williams if you could just the fact that as it's common practice he was missing his throat when they received the body and he wants to know why they held it back. He's not drawing any conclusions, but he said he would want to examine it if there were uh neck fractures or compressions to the neck. And he thinks that's significant to know at autopsy.
The reason he says he would hold it back when he was medical examiner because he thought that there may have been some issues with neck fractures. The last thing that is significant is what we said before about him, the condition of his body when he went into the water.
Was he conscious or unconscious? Was he forced or unforced into the water? He said those things are very significant.
But he started off talking about this red discoloration in the back of his head is something that was of great concern to him. Thank you.
>> We'll go here >> Daryl Dart with Chicago speaks on V103.
What specifically are you calling for from Mississippi authorities in terms of transparency, but more importantly investigations?
>> We we and I I I know President Johnson uh is in the from the state of Mississippi and um the Mississippi conference president is here. They're calling, as we are, for a fair, impartial, comprehensive investigation.
When Nolan's parents heard the sheriff say, "There's no foul play at the beginning of the investigation." That is cause for concern, major concern. you haven't even investigated, but you're saying no foul play. And so, we want them to dot every eye and cross every tea. You know, we we had a meeting with the district attorney and we we expressed to them about our lived experiences, our lived experiences, the fact and you know, they they said that's not what happens in her office. But we said we believe if the roles were reversed and there were three young black 18 year olds and there was a white 18-year-old who was with them and he ended up dead.
We don't believe that those young black men would not have been interrogated to the full extent of the law. We believe that it would not have been a choice whether they were going to cooperate with law enforcement if their lawyers and them were going to cooperate. No.
No. They would have been held until they gave answers. They would have been held until they explained the cell phone in their possession. They would have been held until their cell phones have been examined. And so whatever you would do had the roles been reversed, we want you to do the same THING FOR NOLAN WALES.
>> We have time for one more question and then we're going to have a prayer with our religious affairs committee with the family. One more question here.
>> What's there?
>> I'm Tiffany Walden with the tribe in Chicago. Um, I know that we're talking about a transparent investigation, but for families and people who are watching, can you kind of give a breakdown or a timeline to the best of your ability of the contact that you've had with Miss Mississippi authorities or Ocean Springs authorities or the Cajun Navy? Have you all talked to them? Do they call you after the initial autopsy?
Is it just radio silence from them? Do you have to call them? Can you kind of walk us through that process? So, [clears throat] uh, the last time we actually spoke with local authorities, which would be the sheriff's department, um, was, I think a day or two after his body was found. That was only initiated by me. Um, I sent him a text message. I was like, "Hey, this is Christine Nolan's mom. I just want to see if there are any updates." Basically, he called back. There were no updates. He's like, "We're still interviewing."
And again, my my concern and also u my husband's concern was it was not even an hour that his body had been removed and the sheriff came out and said, "This is, you know, accidental drowning. We don't think there's foul play." Again, that is why we're doing what we're doing and why we're moving the way we are.
because I sat there and asked them, "Please take this case as if this is your child, >> your family member, your whatever." And they promised that they would, but when you make statements like that straight out the gate, that's an issue. Um, we did meet with the DA. She did promise, you know, transparency and all of this, you know, all of that. However, damage has already been done because now that's the narrative that's being pushed by the general public who again know nothing really only what they're hearing from other people. So, in addition to that, it's all these things coming up. And at the end of the day, like I said before, any parent that would be in this situation, you would do anything, >> anything to find out what happened to your child. And that is what we're here to do.
It it is it is very important to note that this narrative, this suggestion that it was an accidental drowning, nothing to see here, is troubling. Even if that's the case, there were 300 to 400 people out on Horns Island. You mean to tell me nobody saw anything? Nobody can tell us anything about what happened to one of the few black people that were out there on that island that day. It just doesn't add up. The fact that they're saying Nolan said that he would stay behind, but yet a 18-year-old kid would not want his cell phone if he was going to stay behind. The fact that Yeah. You have the young lady saying that he said he was going to get back on the boat with the boys and then the boys saying no. He said he were going to stay behind and talk to her. If that was the case, don't you believe Nolan would have said, "Give me my cell phone. I'mma stay behind. Give me my car keys. I'mma stay behind. It's not adding up." And so we're going to keep fighting and digging until we get the answers, the transparency, the truth, the accountability, and justice for Nolan Wales.
>> JUSTICE FOR NOLAN WALES.
>> NOLAN.
>> Justice for Nolan Wales.
>> Nolan Wales.
>> Justice for Nolan Wales.
>> Nolan Wales.
>> JUSTICE FOR NOLAN WALES.
>> JUSTICE FOR WHALES. JUSTICE FOR NOLAN WALES.
>> JUSTICE for Nolan Wales.
>> JUSTICE FOR NOLA WALES.
>> JUSTICE for Nolan Wales. We're going to have our religious affairs committee join us quickly so we can have a quick word of prayer with the family and that will conclude our press conference formally.
>> Good morning.
It's a good morning in spite of all that we have heard. It's a good morning because we're here for justice.
>> I'm Reverend Wendell Anthony from the Detroit branch and also member of the National Board of Directors and part of the religious affairs committee joined by colleagues who are here. I'm going to ask all of you if you would be so kind as to just link arms.
just link arms so that we can link ourselves around this particular moment and around this family.
There's an old African proverb that says those whom we love die only in the physical sense but their spirit continues live on in the will and determination of those whom they leave behind.
Mr. and Mrs. Wells, I did not know your son, but I could tell from just looking at his photograph, I can feel the aura, the joy that you talked about.
We all can experience and feel that Ben Trump has chronicled the list of pain moments in our community by the deceased by those who are now martyrs.
We have been dying since 1619.
>> Still seeking justice.
>> Pray with me.
Oh Lord, our Lord, how very excellent is thy name in all the earth.
We are here for but one reason, to answer the question, what does the Lord require of us?
But to do justice, to love mercy, to even walk humbly with our God.
Lord God, your people are here be seeking justice.
We're here for transparency.
We're here for truth. You who are the way, the truth, and the life. We're here because of you, Lord God. How long must we continue to pay evil a toll at the gateway towards justice?
How long must we see our children lie bleeding in the streets, in the sand, in the water and the asphalt pavements of this nation that we built.
Even on July the 4th, a day that serves a lesson in mockery and dichotomy, where we talk about independence, yet we are not independent from those who seek justice.
>> Help us, Lord.
Bless us right now. Bless this family.
COVER THIS MOTHER >> WHOSE tears fall DOWN HER CHEEKS. COVER THIS father >> as he remembers his son >> whom he taught and whom he mentored.
>> Yes.
>> To play in life, but more importantly to play the game the way it should be played in living.
>> Lord God, we thank you so much.
>> We've gone down the roads. They lied on Martin. Yes, >> they lied on Mega.
>> They lied on Malcolm.
>> BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, oh God, THEY LIED ON YOU.
>> YOU WHO KNOW ABOUT LIES. WE KNOW THAT THE TRUTH shall eventually set us all free.
>> HELP US TO GET THE TRUTH EVEN IN MISSISSIPPI. Oh Lord, help us to get the truth FOR OUR CHILDREN. YOU KNOW, LIKE WE KNOW THERE ARE MORE BLACK BOYS IN SCHOOL THAN ARE IN JAIL. WE KNOW. OH GOD, THAT THERE ARE MORE OF US WHO ARE STRIVING FOR THE BENEFIT OF LIFE RATHER THAN THE POISON from living. Oh Lord, HOW LONG WILL JUSTICE CONTINUE TO LIFT UP HER BROWS SO THAT SHE CAN SEE WHO IS STANDING BEFORE US SO SHE CAN MAKE A DECISION THAT IS NOT IN OUR INTEREST BUT IN THE INTEREST OF THOSE WHO SEEM TO BE DIFFERENT FROM US. HELP US LORD. DON'T WE AS A PEOPLE BLEED LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE? DON'T WE AS A PEOPLE NEED COMFORT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE? DON'T WE AS A PEOPLE NEED JUSTICE LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE?
DON'T WE AS A PEOPLE FEEL THE PAIN [screaming] WHEN OUR CHILDREN ARE TAKEN FROM US LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE? HELP AMERICA, LORD, BECAUSE AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM. WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM.
AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM. FIX THE PROBLEM.
IN 250 YEARS, WE STILL SEEM TO SUFFER FROM THE SAME old problem. FIX AMERICA, OH GOD. FIX JUSTICE, OH GOD. FIX US, [screaming] OH GOD. FIX MISSISSIPPI, OH GOD. FIX THOSE WHO ARE STANDING AT THE GATEWAY TO BREAK OPEN THE DOORS FOR JUSTICE.
NOT JUST US BUT JUSTICE. HELP US NOW LORD. THIS IS OUR PRAYER. THIS IS OUR PLEA AS WE SEEK THAT WHICH YOU HAVE THE POWER TO GIVE AND THAT IS JUSTICE. THE JUST SHALL LIVE [screaming] BY THEIR FAITH. THE JUST shall live by their faith. And oh Lord, WE KNOW THAT WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN. WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN.
WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN. LET'S WIN IN THE NAME OF [screaming] JUSTICE. LET THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE GOD, WHO ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS NAME FOR EVERY GOOD PURPOSE, WHO BELIEVED IN JUSTICE, SAY, "AMEN."
>> AMEN.
>> AMEN. NOW, [screaming] GIVE JUSTICE A HAND PRAISE. We praise God FOR JUSTICE.
GOD BLESS YOU, President Johnson. I want you to know and those who are here, there are 12,000 people who are looking at this press conference on YouTube. That was 30 minutes ago. There were 14,000 people who were looking at it on the roots.
That was 30 minutes ago. Ben Crump, this ain't no secret. THE NATION SIR, >> THE [screaming] NATION IS LOOKING FOR JUSTICE.
>> Appreciate you.
>> All right. So, there you have it.
>> It was long. Very, very long. First of all, I commend the effort from for Trump for putting eyes on this, but there was several things that was excruciating to watch. I [laughter] don't want I don't know. I don't want to say it. Um I feel that uh Trump should have let a medical examiner give the report. He he couldn't pronounce certain words, so it didn't come across that polish. If if you couldn't get the medical examiner, you could have got a pathologist, somebody. It shouldn't come from an attorney [snorts] in my opinion. But let me just go over what he said. What he basically said that they did not bring over the neck.
because they didn't bring over the neck.
You can't determine if it was a drowning because it'll u explain if there was water in his lungs, in his airways, or in his stomach. And then so that was number one. You didn't send over the complete body parts. I hate to say it that way. So we can do the examination.
Number two, there was a mysterious discoloration on the back of the head that went through several layers. So, it wasn't um like a cut or anything like this was a deep gash. That's what he uh basically said. He also said that um so it was hard to determine any kind of foul play. So, it still undetermined, which means that that's what the first medical examiner is saying. Also, he's saying that you can't determine how long he was in the water, if he was unconscious, and all of this stuff because to determine that, you need to know what happened before you found him in the water. Okay, so we got that. Uh, what else?
Can't determine if it was drowning. And like everyone else, they're waiting on the toxicology report. Toxicology report always takes around four to six weeks.
And that will determine what was in his system. But if the co toxicology reports come back negative, like there's no, I don't know, illegal drugs or poisoning in his system. Sounds like it's basically going to be undetermined, which puts us back to where we are. What happened? What happened? We don't We still don't know what happened here. And this was long. It was very, very long.
It was two hours. It was two hours. He could have sped it up a little bit, but I applaud his efforts and uh I think it's cool that Colin Kaepernick stepped up and paid for it. What are your thoughts, Perry?
>> Well, you know, I just think that look, at least they're on the right track. You demanding, hey, give us all the body parts. Let us he let our examiner check out some of the organs. Let us check out the throat. And yes, it's common if they looking at other reasons and they're doing more investigation on the throat, but why are they doing more investigations? You know what I'm saying? On it >> unless they seeing something different.
So, at least to call it out >> and kind of >> I'm going to send you over the body for a second autopsy, but you're missing the most important part. You need to know where the neck is so we can determine if this was a drowning and what happened.
Uh there the gash, not even a gash, the deep red discoloration in the back of the head. That that's alarming.
>> So, uh we still don't have any answers >> and we'll have to see if the state going to turn it over.
>> Yeah, that's right.
>> Now, my thought would be no. Then I've seen some people in the chat were saying, "Well, maybe they could reconfigure the stuff they got." I don't know. But >> now you need you need the body parts. No offense. I don't want to refer to you need his neck. You have to have the neck.
>> You know, the neck is a a crucial area.
Not only can it determine if there's water in the airways, was it crushed?
>> Right. Right. Exactly. Right.
>> You know, a lot of stuff. So, uh, that's where we are right now.
I'm about to go. I've been sitting here two hours. So, but thank thanks to everybody. Uh Colin Kaepernick.
It's really weird. It's really strange.
And it is another suspicious move that you did not send over the neck. Did you forget? Well, why? What?
>> Huh? And that's when a a medical examiner should have came forward or a pathologist, somebody that's experienced so you can explain this is very crucial and it's not a good look for the medical exam to send over the body with the most important part missing.
>> So, yeah, that says a lot. The organs to see the, you know, that area, your neck and stuff. Let me know in the chat what you guys think. Do you think we would ever >> the examiners on our side ever get to see >> these missing parts?
>> Yeah.
>> Or would it be something thrown under the bridge?
>> Anyway, >> comments, >> Perry, let's try to come back uh a little later. We'll uh do hot topics and then we'll talk about what's the aftermath. As of right now, they're pretty much calling out the medical examiner for sabotaging the second autopsy because they like you didn't send over the most important part and it's not like you didn't know. So, uh, so there we have it you guys. Perry, you got anything you want to say?
>> No, that's it. That's all I got. Until later.
>> Okay, people. We'll see you later. Bye for now.
>> And bye everybody.
