A comprehensive abdominal assessment involves four key techniques: observation (checking contour, symmetry, color, and texture), auscultation (listening to bowel sounds), percussion (tapping to assess underlying structures), and palpation (light touching to detect abnormalities), with normal findings including symmetrical contour, clear bowel sounds, no visible vascular patterns, and a flat abdominal shape.

Abdomen AssessmentAdded:
Okay. So, good morning ma'am. I am Adri Marshall, student nurse and today we will be conducting your abdomen assessment. So, may I please verify your name and age?
>> I am child Marshall and I am 12 years old.
>> Okay. So, do you have any past related history about this?
>> No.
>> Have you conduct this assessment in the past? Okay. So, um I'm going to be explaining the procedure to you. you would have to be laid down in a supine position and I'm going to um assess your abdomen by observing it by by oscultating it by listening to it and then by um lightly pulpating it and then I'm going to um um perform hand hygiene and I'm going to provide you some privacy.
Okay. So, mom, you can lay down in a supine position.
Okay. So, are you comfortable, ma'am?
Okay. So, can you please expose your abdomen?
I'm going to start with observing the contour and the symmetry. Right now I can see the contour and its symmetry is there's nothing asymmetrical about it.
There's no large bulge. There's no um organs um being obvious and um the movements are fine as well as the contour is also fine. It is symmetrical which is healthy. And right now I can see that uh there's no abnormal colors like bluish colors or yellowish colors that can lead to complications. There's also no um weird textures in your abdomen which is a good sign. So I'm also um checking for the movement. The movement is minimal and that is okay because you have plenty of fat on your abdomen and that is healthy and it can only be seen in um very slim or uh lean people the very pulsations of the abdomen.
So what you have right now is good and then I would I also am checking for the vascular pattern. Um there's no vascular pattern that is visible right now because your abdomen is healthy. So that is a good sign. Um it will be only seen if there are any complications on the abdomen. And so right now there's no vascular pattern anymore. So that is good. So now I will be start by oscultating by listening to your abdomen.
So you will feel light pressure but it's not going to be painful.
Okay. So I checked that and the sounds are clear and there are visible there are obvious sounds going on in your abdomen. There's no signs of um blurred sounds or any abnormal loud sounds that can be heard. So now I'm going to lightly percuss your abdomen. So you're going to feel a little bit of pressure.
So I'm going to peruss it on the four quadrants. So Okay. So, ma'am, good news. You can >> Good news. There's no sign of any abnormalities because I touched it with my own hands and there are no abnormal growth. There are no bulges and your shape of the ab your shape of your abdomen is flat which is normal. So that is very good. Overall your results are normal and there's nothing to be um worried about. So thank you ma'am.
