A doctor argues that government politicians should not decide who is sick enough to receive mental health benefits, as they do not make such judgments for physical conditions like cancer; instead, benefit eligibility should be determined by independent medical assessments from doctors or psychiatrists based on professional diagnosis.

The Government Wants to Decide Whether You Need Benefits For Mental HealthAdded:
Hi guys, welcome to the channel. Thank you for joining me and thank you for your continued support.
So, Helen Whately has again, as we all know, been on um numerous interview programs and has talked about how um there were there was this problem with mental health over diagnosis and too many people with mild uh uh anxiety and mild depression, ADHD being on benefits.
Now, I've spoken about this before, but while I was watching this, I was watching this on X, um a doctor came up with a really good uh piece of information or really good quote, I should say. I'm going to put it up on the screen so you can see it as well.
But basically, she said that you know, government politicians aren't involved in you know, in the in the situation when it comes to things like cancer and other illnesses that are, you know, visible to many people.
So, why should they get involved with things like ADHD and anxiety and depression? Why should they why should they believe that they can judge whether someone is sick enough uh when it comes to a mental health condition, but they don't do it when it comes to a physical condition? And I agree with that, although I agree with it to some extent. I think the government uh not just this government, previous governments have always tried to make it as difficult as possible, regardless of your condition, to claim benefits. Uh I think you know, the the the near the amount of proof needed for any condition is huge and I think that's one of the reasons why uh the level of fraud is quite low. Uh actually, it's very low for certain things like PIP, uh which again, the mainstream media will not tell you because they they they want to continue this narrative of um you know, too many people on benefits, not enough people working.
But I think this this doctor has an valid point. You know, they they demand all of this evidence for physical ailments and they say, "Yeah, okay.
You're disabled enough. You don't have to work or you don't have to uh, you know, you don't have to do full-time work or whatever the situation might be.
But, when it comes to mental illness, it seems like this level of proof isn't enough. You know, okay, so you've got a diagnosis of severe anxiety or ADHD or whatever it might be, how that how that affects you in your life, particularly when it comes to people, of course, which is all about how it affects you day to day.
Um, but then all of a sudden all of this evidence isn't isn't important. It's now, all of a sudden, down to MPs to decide who is sick enough um, to to be on welfare and who isn't when it comes to mental health.
And I think she's absolutely right.
Because, you know, things can affect you daily, uh, differently, hour by hour sometimes, some conditions, and that can be just as bad for mental health as it can be for physical health. Um, you know, as I've said before, sometimes I haven't been able to make videos because of my uh, anxiety and things like that, and that can change very quickly. I could be having a perfectly okay day, and then all of a sudden the rest of the day would be completely terrible.
Uh, or it could be an hour, you know, an hour out of my out of my day I could be a completely you know, completely out of it.
>> [clears throat] >> So, it's, you know, they don't seem to understand that or they just seem to think that most people with mental health have mild conditions, which uh, means they should be working. But, I don't think that that is the case. But, let me know what you think down in the comments section. Uh, do you agree with what this doctor says? Do you think that actually it isn't the politician's place to be deciding who physically or mentally should be working who isn't.
It's got to be down to an independent assessment. It's got to be down to um, proof by a doctor or psychiatrist or whoever it is who's diagnosing in the condition and if they have that proof then that should be enough. Let me know what you think down in the comment section. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Please do like, share, and subscribe to help push this channel forward to more disabled people and I'll see you next time.
