Food contains potential energy, but actual energy production requires mitochondria to convert nutrients from food and oxygen from air into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the body's energy currency; therefore, energy is not just about nutrition but also depends on lifestyle factors like sleep, movement, stress, recovery, and exercise that influence mitochondrial function.

You don’t get energy from foodHinzugefügt:
Food gives us energy. Now, you would think this is a very obvious fact. But, what if I told you this was the biggest myth lie that was taught to you in school? Now, before the diet police comes after me, food is important, very very important. Don't get me wrong, but food itself is not energy. Food is potential energy. The real magic happens later. Now, let's take a simple example.
Imagine you fill your car with petrol, diesel, or whatever else. Does the petrol move the car? Not by itself. You still need an engine. The fuel is useless without the machinery that can convert it into a motion. Your body works exactly the same way. The food you eat contains carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and other things. These are the raw materials. The oxygen you breathe is another important ingredient.
But, neither becomes usable energy until your mitochondria get involved.
They take nutrients from food, combine it with oxygen, and convert them into ATP, adenosine triphosphate, the body's energy currency. The thing that powers every heartbeat, every thought, every breath, every step. So, when someone says, "I eat really healthy, but I'm always tired." The answer may not be as simple as eating even healthier. Because energy is not just about what goes into your mouth. It's also about what your body can do with what goes in your mouth.
Think about it. Two people can eat the same meal.
One feels energized, the other feels sluggish. Why? Because mitochondria respond to much more than food alone.
They respond to movement, exercise, sleep, stress, recovery, aging, even prolonged sitting. So, get off your royal backsides. In other words, energy is not simply a nutrition story. It is a lifestyle story. And here is what it gets even more interesting. Many of us spend enormous amount of time thinking about what to eat. But, very little think about how do we sleep? How do we move? How do we recover? And yet, these are some of the strongest signals mitochondria receive. Now, the Upanishads often point towards a simple truth. We become so focused on the visible that we forget the invisible. We pay attention to the fruit and ignore the roots. Food is visible, energy production is not. But one depends completely on the other. So if you have been feeling tired lately, don't just ask what should I eat. Also ask how am I sleeping? How am I moving? How am I breathing? How am I living? Because your mitochondria are listening to all of it.
And I'm curious, what have you noticed?
Well now, keep living and smiling. Over and out.
