Astronomers discovered NGC 1052-DF2 and NGC 1052-DF4, galaxies that contain almost no dark matter, challenging the long-held belief that dark matter is essential for holding galaxies together; this discovery forces scientists to reconsider whether dark matter is truly necessary for galaxy formation or whether our understanding of gravity may be fundamentally incorrect.

The Galaxy With No Dark Matter追加:
Scientists found a galaxy that should not exist.

For decades, astronomers believed one rule about the universe was absolute.
Every galaxy must contain dark matter.
It's the invisible glue that holds galaxies together.
Without it, stars would fly apart into space.
But then in 2018, something impossible was discovered.
A faint galaxy called NGC 1052DF2.
When scientists studied it using the Hubble Space Telescope, they found something shocking.
This galaxy has almost no dark matter.
None.
Zero.
Its stars move so slowly that the gravity from visible matter alone explains everything.
This breaks one of the biggest laws in cosmology because according to everything we know, this galaxy should have torn itself apart billions of years ago.
But it didn't. It survived.
Which means one of two things must be true. Either dark matter is not required to form galaxies or our entire understanding of gravity is wrong.
Some scientists even suggested this galaxy could be evidence that dark matter doesn't exist at all.
Others believe it formed during a rare cosmic collision that stripped the dark matter away.
But here's the terrifying part.
We still don't know the real answer.
This single galaxy has forced physicists to rethink decades of theory.
And it's not alone. Another galaxy nearby, NGC 1052DF4, shows the same behavior.
Two impossible galaxies floating in space defying the rules of the universe.
If dark matter isn't needed to hold galaxies together, then what is?
And if our gravity equations are wrong, what else in the universe have we misunderstood?
Sometimes the biggest discoveries aren't what we find, but what shouldn't exist?
