Hi, I'm Dr. Lori. I want to show you some secrets of prints. This is a color lithograph print. It's by an artist named Art Lame. It is pencil signed and also plate signed. What does that mean?
The darker of these two signatures is actually the plate signed signature that is printed when the image is printed onto the piece of paper. Then after it's printed, you have the image, you have the signature, the artist comes back and pencil signs it on top. That's one of the things you want to look for. It's good if you have both of them. This piece has a number here, too. Did you ever see this type of fraction on a print? Well, that's called the print run. Number 1,496 is the number that it comes off of the print run. And the full print run is 5360 pieces. If you have a high number as your numerator and a high number as your denominator in this fraction, it's not a great piece. You want to have as low a number as possible when it comes to
