[00:00:03]This controversial case answers that question in criminal law. The case in question is the Crown and Brown from 1994 and it concerned a group of sadomasochist men.

[00:00:18]And to be honest, it's quite traumatizing case. They would engage in various activities for their sexual pleasure um such as branding themselves and nailing a nail through their penises for some reason.

[00:00:34]And I wouldn't normally go into this much detail in these videos, but I'm going to because it's quite funny.

[00:00:40]The police thought one of the victims was dead, had been murdered. And so they knocked on the door and it was the person who they thought was dead who actually answered the door.

[00:00:52]And yeah, just very funny. You can imagine the shock on their faces. I digress.

[00:00:59]The court in the Crown and Brown, the House of Lords, held that no you cannot consent to being harmed.

[00:01:10]They well, they said it a bit more clearly than that. You cannot consent to being harmed at level at ABH, actual bodily harm or above.

[00:01:21]You cannot consent to be harmed if it's harm which is a actual bodily harm or above.
