Court sends accused in Kedah stabbing case for psychiatric evaluation

[00:00:02]The Sessions Court in Alor Setar has ordered a real estate agent accused of stabbing a woman in the neck in Kepala Batas on May 17th to undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.

[00:00:17]Judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini issued the order after defense lawyer Muhammad Hakim Hamran informed the court that his client, 32-year-old Muhammad Ilhami Badaruddin, is receiving psychiatric treatment at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar.

[00:00:33]The lawyer said the accused has follow-up appointments and is under medication for mental health conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and allegedly reported hearing voices.

[00:00:46]Muhammad Ilhami had earlier pleaded not guilty to attempted murder for allegedly stabbing 35-year-old Nurul Husna Kasmani in the neck with a knife at a bistro parking area in Titi Gajah, Kepala Batas at about 9:19 p.m. on May 17th. The charge under Section 307 subsection 1 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or up to 20 years if the offense results in injury.
