School Ignites Backlash With Kirpan Decision

[00:00:00]Today I'm going to look at a story that sparks heated debate across the UK. It's about a school in Wales who are allowing seek students or a seek student rather to wear a ceremonial kan which is a blade and why many parents are furious about it especially in light of the tragic recent stabbing.

[00:00:22]um Henry TUDA school in Pemrook sent a letter to his parents that explained that there was a new um sick pupil who would be wearing a small symbolic kpan as part of his faith. Now the school emphasized that this blade was about 1 and a half inches. It would be sheath.

[00:00:40]It would be sealed and it cannot be unshathed. But this isn't new. UK schools have had policies for accommodating seek articles of faith under equality laws. But when ice crime is massive an issue in a high profile case in the news, people are asking is this safe or is it prioritizing religion over common sense? There's a post blown up on Twitter ex Twitter by Saskia Teague. Um, and it connects directly to the death of 18-year-old Henry Noak. And I'm going to play that post just now. It's about 3 minutes 30 seconds long. Um, and I'll see you after it. I'll tell you the things that concern me and give you a breakdown on some facts, contents, and my own thoughts. So, stick around to the end.

[00:01:57]>> Right guys, we have a massive, massive problem on our hands. I've had a message this morning from a follower of mine, a very concerned parent whose child attends the Henry TUDA school in Wales and they have been sent a letter.

[00:02:10]Parents have been sent a letter that I have here in black and white explaining why seeks are permitted to carry the keran which is the seek ceremonial blade. The ceremonial blade that recently killed 18-year-old Henry Novak.

[00:02:24]This is happening in our schools and if your kids are attending somewhere like this, take them out. The letter reads as follows. Appendix to uniform policy guidance for schools. Wearing of the karpan. School staff should be aware that the wearing of the 5ks which includes the karpan at all times is of utmost importance and sensitivity for initiated seeks. It is essential for an initiated seek to keep his or her vows and this commitment. This should be respected by the school community. So stuff everybody else who was in a seek, they're going to have to put up with these people carrying ceremonial blades around a secondary school. Unbelievable.

[00:03:08]The school's preferred option might be that a symbolic version of the keran is worn. However, if it is the view of the particular staff or student that this does not satisfy their religious requirements, then the school will allow the curan to be worn subject to the following conditions. Now, a bunch of things are listed about how it can't be more than 6 in in long. It has to be um enclosed and secure padding. It can't be video blah blah blah. And as my follower who messaged me quite rightly said, none of this matters. None of this matters.

[00:03:41]The fact is they have allowed a weapon, a blade into a secondary school. And as usual in the United Kingdom, there is always a defense, always a law, and always a protection for everybody else but the native people. Because under the 1996 Offensive Weapons Act, seats can legally carry their ceremonial blades because it is being worn for religious reasons. So once again, we have no protections. We can't carry pepper spray. We can't even speak the truth. We have no defense whatsoever. But every other community can do as they please.

[00:04:15]My follower who messaged me also explained how they had a 90minute meeting with the school as not only them but other parents were deeply concerned and outraged. But as usual, the school was on the side of the law. You know, the law that protects everybody else but our own. Where do we go from here?

[00:04:30]Because now we know that Sikhs are protected by the law. They can carry weapons into schools. And we can do literally nothing about it. A petition has been set up by the concerned parent who messaged me. So, please sign it.

[00:04:42]Please share it. Please share this video. We need to get this information out there to show the absolute state that this country um is in. It's a petition to ban all knives and ceremonial blades entering uh uh schools. You know, we're at the point where we're begging for our own safety in our own um country. And to the Henry TUDA school in Wales, you are an absolute joke. How on earth you can say learners first at the top of your school school newsletter is completely beyond me. If you were putting your own students first, you wouldn't allow foreign ceremonial blades to enter the premises. Absolutely disgusting. And like I say, if you have a child attending a school like this, take them out because it's not worth it. It really is not worth it. You never know what could happen in with the state that we are in. Share this far and wide. The school is a disgrace.

[00:05:32]>> Right. So let's unpack this. So first the school's position. Henry Tudtor school in Pemickshshire uh and sorry Pemshire Council say that the Karpan is purely symbolic. It's small. It's secured. It's nonfunctional and it's one of what they say the 5ks which any initiated seek are required to wear apparently um and UK law generally allows us with conditions that it shift it's discreet and it's for genuine religious practice but made many schools have made similar accommodations for these blades now the seikhs argue that the kpan represents protection justice and readiness to defend innocent and say it's not an offensive weapon and the community to be fair have condemned the Noak killing and stressed that it doesn't reflect their faith.

[00:06:24]Now the tragic um context raised in the video that 18year-old Tenny Noak was stabbed to death in Southampton and by a guy or sorry allegedly by because it's on trial just now. Vakam Digua who's 23 is on trial for that alleged murder just now. Now the prosecutors say Dua used a 21 cm blade described as a shastar care plan pattern just a longer version and it caused multiple wounds including unfortunately the fatal ones. Now the dig claims selfdefense after an altercation involving alleged racial abuse saying that he feared being attacked with his own blade. and his mother. She also faces charges for allegedly removing the weapon from the scene. Now, there is a bit of a distinction here. The school karpan is described as much smaller and secured.

[00:07:21]The one that Novak case was significantly um larger. Still, the visual of a blade in public um and a public dispute hit hard for parents worried about school safety. The UK knife crime is a real crisis. Thousands of innocents yearly, especially young people. We only need to look back at Southport to understand how horrific these attacks can be. And schools are meant to be low risk zones.

[00:07:50]Many viewers will argue no exceptions, no blades, uh, period. And I kind of agree with that. But others say targeted religious accommodations work when properly managed with metal detectors or secure storage as backups in religious places. But you've got a blade. It's in a school. Um and even if the person who has it is very wise and safe, somebody else could take it off them.

[00:08:21]Now, this school um caters for kids between 11 year olds and 18 year olds.

[00:08:27]And you know, if everybody knows that that kids get a blade in school and somebody wants a blade that's in already in school, then what happens if it gets into somebody else's hands? Now, there is a petition calling for bans on all knives, including ceremonial knives in schools. Broader questions remain about integrity, public safety, and whether religious exemptions should override uniform zero tolerance policies that we already have in an era of high migration intention. And my take is that safety must come first at all levels, but we're talking about school here.

[00:09:05]Why there's any ambiguity about safety coming first just blows my my mind. A tiny sealed symbolic item might be low risk in practice. But public trusts eroden when we see highprofile tragedies involving these types of blades and schools should consult widely with parents not just legal teams. clear consistent rules that apply equally would help perhaps mandatory um secure just you know in places when they were doing I don't I don't know why it would be a seek ceremonial um reason to you know any ceremonial um religious activities in the school but if you did need to have it for any particular thing then you know at least have it secured at the rest of the time not leaving it on a child in a classroom And I suppose you could also look at replicas cuz being Scottish on occasion I have worn a ske do and although I do own a ske do which is about 2 in of a soft blade. I mean it's is metal but you could you could probably cut your toes with it. Um normally when you hire such a thing it's actually a fake blade you get sometimes the handle and the sheath are all one thing. You know it's not as if it's even locked. So that you know you get plenty symbolic replicas um which could be used and I've seen them myself with Scottish um traditional ceremonial blade called but this isn't about tack and seeks as such which you know I've got a proud history of service and defense in this country it's about whether Britain can maintain safe public spaces while um respecting other people's faiths and I'm sure Henry Noak's family deserve justice and parents deserve reassurance.

[00:10:53]es that their kids are exposed to avoidable risks and I can mention that about the Novak um case because unfortunately he is no longer with us and we know the weapon that was used in his murder but we just the trial is to decide who was guilty or not for that so we're talking about some things in that case are no prejudice in anything because these are well-known facts but what do you think should ceremonial kurpans be allowed student schools at all.
