No Country for Old Men demonstrates how interconnected character storylines and non-linear storytelling create a compelling narrative, where multiple characters pursue the same objective (the stolen money) while the film's structure reveals connections between seemingly separate plot threads, ultimately exploring themes of fate, chance, and the consequences of violence.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is a MASTERPIECE! | First Time Watching | Movie ReactionAdded:
Hi everyone. Welcome back to another reaction video. Before we start off, obviously there's a whole different background behind me. I will be staying at my parents house for about 2 weeks right now. Um my mom just had surgery.
Um, so I'm just basically taking care of her for the next two weeks. So I kind of moved a little bit of my stuff here. Um, so the next few weeks, uh, this is going to be the background. It's going to be a little different for just a little bit. Uh, but that's just a quick heads up. Besides that, today we are going to be watching our next um, exclusive Patreon pick. Um, and if you ever want to be a part of those polls that we do or, um, you guys choosing the movies that I watch, uh, you can head over to our Patreon community where you also get to be a part of choosing these films. Um, you also get early access to my reactions as well as Discord access. We dropped our anime tier. We are about to start season 3 on Attack on Titan. I know you guys were talking uh, about me watching the OVAs, which I did. I watched all the ones that I needed to watch before we started season 3. So, we're going to start season 3 now. Uh, besides that, oh, we also are done with Falcon and the Winter Soldier and we're moving on to, I believe, Hawkeye.
Uh, yeah, for the MCU specifically. But yeah, besides that, we're going to be watching No Country for Old Men. We also just finished up John Wick 3, moving on to John Wick 4. And yeah, that's just a little update for you guys. Um, besides that, I guess we can just kind of dive into this. As you guys know, I don't watch uh the trailer. I don't know what No Country for Old Men is about. So, we're just gonna dive into it blindly and see how this goes. Yeah. I guess I guess let's let's just dive into it. All right. The crime you see now, it's hard to even take its measure. I always knew you had to be willing to die to even do this job. But I don't want to push my chips forward. Man would have to put his soul at hazard. You have to say, "Okay, I'll be part of this world."
>> Yes, sir. I got under control. Yes, sir.
I just walked in the door.
Is this where we're starting?
This is where we're going into. This what you guys got for me?
For a second. And I thought it was the other way around.
>> What is that?
>> I need you to step out of the car. Sir, >> would you hold still, please? Sir, >> is this like a a horror movie?
What is this?
Holy hell. What?
Like a pressurized like what?
We're in the first five minutes of the movie, guys.
Oh, for real.
Told you ain't got no awar standing. There must have been one.
Where'd he go?
>> Damn. You could have at least closed the door for him.
Just a quick one, too. Damn.
The good thing is he has a binoculars cuz they um you just see everybody dead. Just even he's at the shade he has a weapon on him. At least he's able to see from afar.
Just kidding. He's dead is going is going on.
I'm letting it play out. I'm letting it play out.
I'm a little bit in confusion.
Just kidding. He died from a gun wound.
Damn. Don't get mad at me. Don't get mad at me.
I'm overthinking it.
>> Not enough.
>> And we just got So he just Okay. He just has a lot of cash.
>> All right.
>> What are you doing, baby?
>> I'm going out.
>> Going where? Well, something I forgot to do, but I'll be back. If I don't come back, you tell mother I love her.
>> Your mother is dead, L will >> Well, then I'll tell her myself.
>> Go give him that water. Go get Go get it to him.
Oh my god.
Oh, they're going down. They said, "I heard Abaho. They're going. They're they're Oh, >> hell no.
>> Oh, hell no.
I I I I just I wonder what have happened. I wonder what would have happened if you didn't run to the, you know, where they didn't see that there was someone alive.
You better get Oh, >> I need to be GET OH, HELL NO.
Crazy to think that he was trained to kill.
Like, go get him and I'm surprised his gun's still uh there.
>> How much?
>> 69 cent >> and the gas.
>> Y'all getting any rain up your way?
>> Why did I forget about him?
>> I seen you was from Dallas.
I was so caught up in what was going on, I forgot about this guy.
>> I didn't mean nothing by it.
>> Didn't mean nothing.
>> Just passing the time. If you don't want to accept that, I don't know what else I can do for you. Will >> there be something else?
>> I don't know. Will there?
>> Is something wrong?
>> With what?
>> With anything.
>> Is that what you're asking me? Is there something wrong with anything?
>> Will it be anything else? You already asked me that.
>> We come out here about four years ago.
>> You married into it.
>> Be like, you >> don't have somewhere to put it.
>> You really try to make conversation.
>> I know he's psycho, but you know be like, well, if you don't want to tell me your business just to make conversation, the [ __ ] am I going to tell you mine?
>> What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss? Sir, >> the most you ever lost? Nicole, >> he keeps >> call it. Call it. Yes.
>> For what?
>> Just call it.
>> Well, we need to know what we're calling it for here.
>> You need to call it. I can't call it for you. It wouldn't be fair.
>> I didn't put nothing up.
>> Yes, you did. You've been putting it up your whole life. You just didn't know it.
You know what date is on this coin and it's either heads or tails and you have to say call it.
>> Oh, you got to be [ __ ] kidding me.
>> Heads.
>> I need to know everything.
>> Don't put it in your pocket, sir.
>> Don't put it in your pocket. It's your luggage water.
>> Where you want me to put it? Anywhere.
Not in your pocket. Or it'll get mixed in with the others and become ingestine.
[ __ ] I was going to do Tails. I would have been dead.
Sorry guys. Every time we watch movies that have like accents in them, my brain picks it up and then I and then I just kind of go.
>> Lwellen.
>> Come on, pack your things. Anything you leave, you ain't going to see again.
>> Well, don't fall down apologizing.
I'm very interested to see the correlation of these two different men that we're seeing.
I just want to see like some kind of like interaction between them of of what's to happen.
Oh, >> and so we >> Mhm.
>> It's basically what like the last man standing thing that the other guy mentioned. Oh my.
>> All right, give me that.
>> Always am.
>> Don't get hurt.
>> Never do.
>> Don't hurt no one.
>> It's It's It's so interesting how everything's just kind of playing out. I like how they they did they're doing it though, the storytelling. Um especially with like obviously the locations that we've we've come to know so far in each of the scenes that something has happened, but it's kind of cool.
>> Well, this is just a deal gone wrong, isn't it?
>> Yeah.
Appears to have been a glitch or two.
>> Boys appear to be managerial. I think we're looking at more than one frackus.
Execution here, wild west over there.
But it's a mess, ain't it, Sheriff?
>> If it ain't, it'll do till the mess gets here.
>> Oh, I thought he was going to get beer.
>> I'm looking for Luwella Moss.
>> Did you go up to his trailer?
>> Yes, I did. Where does it work, >> sir? I ain't at liberty to give out no information about our residence.
>> Where does it work?
>> Did you not hear me? We can't give out no information.
I thought he was going to try to kill whoever else was there.
I believe they done lit a shot.
>> I believe you're right.
>> Is that from the lock?
>> Now that's aggravating.
>> Sheriff, >> still sweating.
>> Oh, Sheriff, we just missed him.
>> Looking for a man who has recently drunk milk.
>> Ah, Sheriff, that's aggravating.
>> I'm ahead of you there.
>> He's got any notion of the sorts of sons of [ __ ] that are hunting him?
>> I don't know. He ought to.
He's seen the same things I've seen and it certainly made an impression on me.
>> So well in there expect him >> now. Why would I expect him? Who is this?
Don't stop. Just ride me in past those rooms. I want to see if someone's here.
Take me to another motel.
>> Let's just call it square.
>> Look, you're already in a jackpot and I'm trying to get you out of it. Take me to another motel.
>> I'm scared. form >> tent poles.
>> Mhm.
>> You already have the tent?
>> Well, something like that.
>> Well, you give me the model number on the tent, I can order you the poles. Ah, >> never mind. I want a tent. Well, >> what kind of tent?
>> Kind with most poles.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like you guys requested this movie quite a bit of times.
This is just, you know, I'm like digging to that. I'm taking that into consideration as I'm watching it.
You guys know I love this back and forth as the as the film rolls out.
Um, I just had to look up real quick what that was. Uh, because I didn't I didn't understand what it was to be honest. And that's how he locates the money.
So, I was I was questioning um how he was ever going to be able to find him, especially because there's not there's not a lot of tracking mechanisms during this time as much as there is today. But it's um scary. He's got it.
Terrifying.
This is so cool.
No, I'm not mis.
>> How'd you find that?
What?
shouldn't be doing that.
>> So what would happen if he like >> even a young man like you >> drove across the country for example?
>> Doing what?
>> Hitchhiking.
>> Is that correct?
>> Yes, sir. I know him every which way.
When >> did you last see him?
>> Just fancy of Zombie Land.
>> Just how dangerous is he >> compared to what? The bubanic plague.
He's bad enough you called me. Yeah, he's a psychopathic killer, but so what?
There's plenty of them around. We can stop that.
>> Seem pretty sure yourself.
>> You led something of a charmed life.
>> Counted the floors to this building from the street >> and >> there's one missing.
>> We'll look into it.
I got scared something was about to go down.
>> Not really sure what to expect.
You know what I mean?
One room. There's someone who's been looking for me. Not police. Just call me if anyone else checks in tonight. By anyone, I mean any swinging dick.
>> There just ain't no way.
Kids, kids.
There ain't no way you damn right.
Yes. So good. The phone rings.
That would suck.
He's dead.
Sorry, I forget that I don't have to whisper. I just What would happen if you let No, no, no, no. Like threw the tracker up on the roof or something.
At least he's smart with it.
I wonder if you'll hear the the beep.
Just kidding.
Come on.
And everything's like lined up. It's businesses. I mean, he hurt you.
>> Need you to drive me on out of here.
>> Oh.
Oh no.
Got him.
[ __ ] This is a little cat and mouse game.
Get him. Get him.
>> Were you in a car accident?
>> 500 bucks for that coat.
>> Let me see the money.
>> Were you in a car accident?
Yeah.
>> Oh my god.
Let it go.
>> Sorry guys, if I'm not speaking too much. I like this movie cuz I I just I It's It's very interesting to see what's going to happen next.
I'm glad he at least got shot in the leg.
At least he feels like an ounce of the [ __ ] he's been doing to people.
pissing me off.
Bu this I'm guessing this isn't the future you had pictured for yourself when you first clapped eyes on that money.
>> What's this guy supposed to be? The ultimate badass.
>> His name's Sagur.
>> Sugar.
>> Sugar.
>> Sugar.
>> How do you know he's not on his way to Odessa?
Why would he go to Odessa?
>> Kill your wife.
>> You can't make a deal with him. Even if you gave him the money back, he'd still kill you just for inconveniencing him.
>> I would say >> he's a peculiar man. He's not like you.
He's not even like me.
>> No, he don't talk as much as you. I give him points for that.
When Wellen calls, just tell him I can make him safe.
Of course, they slaughter steers a lot different these days.
Use a air gun. Shoots out a little rod about that far into the brain. Sucks right back in. Animal never knows what hit him.
>> Why are you telling me that, Sheriff?
>> I don't know. My mind wanders.
There's no there's no way.
There's absolutely noing way.
Hello, Carson.
Let's go to your room.
You don't have to do this.
I'm a day trader. I could just go home.
>> You're good.
>> Make it worth your while. Take you to an ATM. There's 14 grand in it. I know where the satchel is.
>> If you knew you would have it with you.
I can find it from the riverbank. I know where it is. You go to hell.
>> All right. Let me ask you some if the rule you followed Roger is of what use was the rule.
>> Do you have any idea how crazy you are?
>> You mean the nature of this conversation?
>> I mean the nature of you.
Hello.
>> Yes.
>> Is uh Carson Wells there? Not in the sense that you mean >> you need to come and see me.
>> Who is it?
>> You know who it is.
You need to talk to me. You're in the hospital across the river. But that's not where I'm going. You know where I'm going.
>> Yeah, I know where you're going.
>> You bring me the money and I let her go.
Otherwise, she's accountable. The same as you.
>> That's the best deal you're going to get. I won't tell you you can save yourself because you can't.
>> Decided to make you a special project of mine. You ain't going to have to come look for me at all.
>> How those larries holding up?
>> Oh, good. Good. I need everything else.
You a lot of people come in here without any clothes on.
>> No, sir. It's unusual.
This is a cool This is a cool mo movie.
I I love the way that it rolls out.
>> With you gone and I don't have the money, he can't touch me. But I can sure touch him. And after I find him, I'll come and join you.
>> Find who? What am I supposed to do with mother?
>> You know, she'll be all right. Ain't nobody going to bother her.
>> They do so good.
Oh, I hate that.
>> Where are you?
>> Nobody accounting.
>> He gave the Mexicans a receiver. He feels he felt that the more people looking >> That's foolish.
You pick the one right tool.
>> I see. Are you going to shoot me?
>> That depends.
>> I [ __ ] hate this dude.
>> Do you see me?
>> What's the problem there, neighbor?
>> Yep. That'll suck some power >> all the time.
>> You from around here?
>> Yeah. Alpine born and bread.
>> What airport would you use?
>> Just a good old man trying to help.
>> Can you get those chicken grates out of the bed?
>> What are you talking about?
Hey, >> you all right?
>> Call the police.
>> I had to rewind for two seconds cuz that that's that's him.
>> Local law enforcement. I'm not on the radio.
>> Sorry. Then I hear Spanish and want to talk Spanish.
Those lonies would have taken the stash, >> I suppose. So, though they was leaving in a hurry.
>> It's all the goddamn money it money and the drugs. He shoots a desk clerk one day, walks right back in the next and shoots a retired army colonel.
>> It's hard to believe.
>> Just strolls right back into a crime scene. Now, who' do such a thing?
How do you defend against it?
Good trip ahead, Tom. Sorry we couldn't help you, boy.
>> I'm genuinely surprised that we didn't see this scene where he dies. It was just like the repente, you know, or um it was just all of a sudden, I think, is the right way.
Damn.
>> Spend trying to get back what's been took from you. More is going out the door. After a while, you just have to try to get a tourniquet on it. Your granddad never asked me to sign on as a deputy. Loretta tells me you're quitting. How come you're doing that?
just reminded me all the way back to the uh introduction of the movie.
>> I feel overmatched. I always figured when I got older, God would sort of come into my life somehow.
>> What you got ain't nothing new. This country is hard on people. You can't stop what's coming.
It ain't all waiting on you. That's vanity.
[ __ ] canel.
>> I knew this one's on with.
I ain't got the money. What little I had is long gone. And there's bills of plenty to pay yet. I buried my mother today. You got no cost to hurt me.
>> No, but I gave my word.
>> Word.
>> You gave your word >> to your husband? That don't make sense.
You gave your word to my husband to kill me.
>> Your husband had the opportunity to save you. Instead, he used you to try to save himself.
>> You don't have to do this.
>> People always say the same thing.
>> What do they say?
>> They say you don't have to do this.
>> You don't.
>> Okay.
>> Call it I know you was crazy when I saw you sitting there.
I knowed exactly what was in store for me. Colette, >> the coin don't have no say.
It's just you.
>> I got here the same way the coin did.
>> He's demented.
This mother stresses me out.
Guys, what the hell?
>> Mister, you got a bone sticking out of your arm.
>> All right, let me just sit here a minute.
>> There's an am coming. The man over yarn went to cough.
>> All right, just tie it. Just die it.
O, >> take it in. You didn't see me. I was already gone.
>> Yes, sir.
genuinely.
>> Maybe I'll go riding.
>> Okay.
>> What do you think? All right, then. Two of them both have my father in them.
It's peculiar.
I'm older now than he ever was by 20 years. So, in a sense, he's a younger man. Anyway, the first one I don't remember too well, but it was about meeting him in town somewhere. give me some money. I think I lost it. It was cold and there was snow on the ground and he rode past me and kept on going.
Never said nothing going by. Just rode had his blanket wrapped around him, his head down. When he rode past, I seen he was carrying fire and a horn the way people used to do. And I I could see the horn from the light inside of it about the color of the moon. And in the dream, I knew that he was going on ahead.
He's fixing to make a fire somewhere out there. And all that dark, all that cold.
I knew that whenever I got there, he'd be there. Then I woke up.
What the actual hell, guys?
Guys, what the hell?
This film felt so different from anything we've watched. Correct me if I'm wrong. I mean, obviously there's like certain similarities in terms of storytelling, but the story itself with everything um how everything turned out, I just feels like it it it's so different from from things we watched before. And you guys have been talking about this movie for quite a while. Um okay. Uh first thoughts, finishing it, I I enjoyed it.
I really did. Um, it did I mean it just felt like every five minutes honestly it probably is if I go back and check every 5 to 10 minutes there's always something there's just there's just something new that kind of just keeps your attention. Um, even when we started the movie the first what three minutes I think. I swear it's three minutes. three to five minutes. I remember looking at the recording time.
Um, the movie was already uh taken a little toll on me. Uh, which I love. I think that's that's that's one of the biggest reasons why I I I loved this movie. Um, it was just kind of like how the story played out. And I really loved I did mention it uh like vaguely I think but I really loved the way that it incorporated each scene in the storytelling itself if that makes sense.
Um because we had the cop, we had the psycho killer, we had the guy that wanted the money, we have the other guy that's chasing after it, the one that you know and then we have the Mexicans and the or you know, we had we had so many things that were going on, but I really loved how they told the story itself in the scenes. And also the thing that I did mention in the beginning was the location scene stuff that they were doing. And I really loved that. Um that that that's so that's so I just Yeah, that's just that's just crazy to me. I mean, he he ended up he lived. Uh and I'm pretty sure that most of us that were watching were rooting for him toing die.
Uh but he never did. Never did. Um nothing could kill him. He was just kind of going.
Yeah. It's just so it's also it's also interesting to see um about the officer when he's talking about God and then also the ending of it in terms of his uh I believe his father about dreaming about his father and that one day he would meet him. And there were certain things in the movie itself that were kind of talked about. Um, and there's there's something specific that was said a few times and I I can't remember I can't remember specifically what it was, but I remember making a face to the camera because it was said again. Um, maybe I can go back and check, but I think I think it was something about like coming for you or something like that. But I Yeah, I think it was some I think it was like it'll come for you or some I don't know whatever. Anyway, um I got rid of my point. Anyway, but but correlated to that, it's just like Oh, what I was going to say, this is what Okay, my god, I got it. I got it.
The officer of him quitting and retiring um because he felt overmatched. Sorry, I don't know if you guys can hear the ambulance, but um him feeling overmatched. I really wonder how the story would have played out if he had continued to try and find um what's his name? Shurug or something like that.
I just remember Sugar Shar. I don't [ __ ] know. Shug. I don't remember.
Something like that. Um, but I I I I wonder what the story would have like h just how it would have ended if the officer maybe still had gone to look for him because I mean the entire film he was just kind of like following the clues, understanding everything and out of everyone that we've noticed and that was kind of following along trying to find Rug or Sagur, whatever. um he was the one who kind of had everything played.
Like I just feel like he was he was more intact with with what was going on. Uh which kind of sucked to see that he retired and then the psycho killer is just freely walking. He's good to go.
You know what I'm saying? On a car crash, you know? So there's not really much chase after him since the since he retired, I guess you could say. Um I don't know. It was just very interest.
It's just a very interesting film. I don't feel like we've watched something like this before, or at least me personally, I don't feel like I have.
Um, so it was really cool. I don't I honestly don't think I would watch it again. I'd probably recommend it and be like, "What do you think about this?"
or, you know, have a conversation about it. Um, which honestly we probably will on my stream cuz I would love to talk about it with you guys. But besides that, I wouldn't watch it again. Uh, but all in all, I feel like it was a good film to watch it. I I really want to know your guys's opinion on this. This I feel like I've heard No Country for Old Men a lot in the comments on Patreon. So that's why specifically I want to ask like what what what I think you guys know that I love these kinds of like storytelling especially because we are on John Wick right now and I really love this whole like hunt type of thing like cat and mouse stuff. Um, I don't know.
But I I really enjoyed this one compared to the other cat and mouse thing like films that we've watched before. I think I liked this one personally. Um, because it felt I don't know. It it it it there wasn't a lot of what's the word I'm looking for? Hold on. There wasn't What I was going to say is there wasn't a lot of interference between the people that we were kind of looking at in the story. like this is charact like all the characters were were correlated but they weren't really like I don't know I feel like the other movies that we've seen like cat-and- mouse stuff there was just a lot of different what was the word I used interference whatever uh anyway but I did really enjoy the movie um I genuinely want to know your guys's thoughts um but sorry if I also seem like very calm today or haven't really talked much I think I'm just have to get you know used to filming again, like being back at my parents house. So, but anyway, um yeah, I hope you guys enjoyed the reaction. I don't feel like I talked very much. I feel like I mostly reacted with my face. Uh but yeah, I enjoyed it.
Uh wouldn't watch it again, but definitely something different that we've we haven't seen before. So, yeah, besides that, I will see you guys for the next one. Uh, make sure to eat, make sure to rest, and as always, make sure to stay hydrated.
