[00:00:00]Sorely lacking within Western Marxism is any sustained or serious engagement with socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The devastation of the century of humiliation, the extreme poverty inherited after 1949, the widespread opium addiction, and the persistent efforts of imperialist powers to contain or disrupt China's socialist development.

[00:00:29]Western Marxist analyses appear less concerned with understanding socialist construction in practice than with defending an abstract conception of it against actually existing models.

[00:00:40]They frequently overlook the crucial fact that China remains the only country from the global south to have developed economic and technological capacities that rival the most advanced Western states while simultaneously raising life expectancy, dramatically improving living standards, and lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty in the span of just a few decades.
