Why Iran Will Never Become a Failed State

[00:00:00]Over the last few decades, Iran has faced war, external pressures, internal pressures, sanctions. It's faced everything you can possibly throw at it.

[00:00:09]But it hasn't collapsed. And in this video, I'm going to explain exactly why that is. Normally, when societies collapse, when a nation collapses, it's because the government loses control over the core systems. It will lose control of the security bureaucracy. It will lose control over all the different parts [music] of the society. But in Iran's case, this didn't happen.

[00:00:28]Basically the underlying state system was solid. It was based off strong foundations. Think to the security apparatus. It remained loyal to the government. It remained in its place. It had the incentives, had the ideological incentives, economic incentives to keep them in power. [music] So the security apparatus stayed in place. The bureaucracy, it was solid. It was united. That's why they united. They united to prevent this collapse. So there was these there was this underlying state system the state [music] function that was so strong that it prevented any sort of collapse from happening like in Libya [music] Syria who had weaker systems these countries had weak systems weak underlaying foundations and so [music] they weren't united they didn't have as much cohesion within the hierarchy the institutions remained stable the pressure the foreign pressure for example it didn't destroy the system it just strained it just weakened it but it remained how it is it remained strong it adapted and adaptation was a key cause for why Iran did not collapse and I'll go over that later. But the point is the system itself, it was based off solid foundations and they were [music] resilient to these external internal pressures. A failed state isn't just struggling, it collapses altogether and Iran is struggling but it hasn't collapsed and that's why Iran still remains a formidable foe to America for example. Also, and this is the most important in my opinion, so this is the most crucial part of the video is civilizational identity. Cohesion comes from this civilizational identity. What did Libya not have? What did Syria not have? These artificial states that didn't even exist 100 years ago. What do they not have that Iran has? Iran has a deep deep deep deep heritage from thousands of years ago. [music] It has a core identity and the re Iran itself is not a construct of imperialism. It is a real country. There is so much pride in this nation of ours. It's not just a modern construct like what people say of the nation state being invented 10020 years ago. Iran is not this Iran. Iran itself the name Iran has existed for thousands of years. So that's why there's so much unity, so much cohesion within society. The with the people within Iran, [music] the different groups of people, their most important goal is to keep Iran intact because there is so much pride in it. And it's almost this unforeseeable thing to see Iran itself collapse. It's not the same as for example if you saw Libya collapse, if you saw Yemen collapse.

[00:02:44]These are not this does not mean anything big to their people. Yes, it's big, but it doesn't mean it doesn't destroy their identity as a people.

[00:02:52]Their identity Libyan people's identity is we're Arabs or Yemen people were Arabs. We're bedwin Arabs. That's their identity. Their identity isn't we are Yemene. But for us Iranians, our identity is our civilization, our country Iran. It is literally a part of our identity. So there that's why we have so much cohesion and we fight so hard to keep it all together. Iran is strong because of this civilizational identity. This that binds the people together. This that binds even the elites together. The ones that want to use Iran for its resources even they know this cannot happen. This is even to them damaging. So when people disagree with each other politically, culturally, they come into conflict with each other but they don't detach from Iran. They stay Iranians. [music] They don't become this separatist group that's aligned to this foreign power etc. They stay Iranian. There's this one group that says Iran should be like this. There's this one group that says Iran should be like that. But they all come to the agreement that Iran must be strong. Iran must remain. This is our goal is for the prosperity of Iran. It's nothing else.

[00:03:53]It's Iran [music] itself. Also, Iranians are smart. So these other countries that collapsed, they did not adapt. But Iran did adapt. Iranians are smart. There's a reason. There's a studies that [music] show Iranians have some of the highest IQs in the world. These states that collapsed in Africa, these other states I mentioned like Syria etc. These states did not have the intelligence of Iranian people. Iranian people are very intelligent. That's why they adapted.

[00:04:16]That's why yes, it led to more corruption in society and led to different issues as a result of for example sanctions, us having to adapt to sanctions. But think how smart Iranians are. I'm not talking about just genetically. I'm talking about we've gone through so much and we've adapted so well to it through so many circumstances. We've gone through each bad each thing we've [music] gone through, we adapted to it. This is proof that Iranians have this intelligence.

[00:04:38]They have this ability to adapt that makes them so strong. In the Iraq war, we adapted and we became strong. We had deficiencies, but we adapted to our deficiencies [music] and we ex in the end defeated Iraq. We came out on top of Iraq. You can say it was a stalemate, but we slightly came out on top. Or think to these sanctions. These sanctions were actually more damaging than the Iraq war. The sanctions are actually more damaging. They've done economic studies. The studies that have shown the sanctions were war damaging than a 10-year war, a decade long war where hundreds of thousands of people up to millions died. And yet 2 3% 4% of our population were slaughtered in this war.

[00:05:13]And yet this these sanctions were more damaging. And Iran still stands because Iranians adapted. We changed our bureaucracy. We adapted our bureaucracy.

[00:05:21]We adapted our administration. We adapted our military to adapt to these issues, to adapt to these scenarios. And that's what America still America is struggling in Iran because Iran adapted.

[00:05:31]Iranians adapt. We're smart. We adapt.

[00:05:33]We adapt with the times. It's the survival of the fittest. What Charles Darwin said. It's the animal that adapts to their environment. They're the ones that strive. They're the ones that flourish. Iranians adapt. And that's why Iranians are so strong. That's why it's impossible for Iranians to go through something like societal collapse, for a national collapse. It's not possible for a race like ours, a nation like ours to collapse because we are not built like that. We are built different. It sounds corny, but it's true. We will find alternative economic channels. We will find different ways of bringing in revenues, tax revenue, we will find ways to fight external threats. We will find ways to fix [music] internal issues within society that even with our limited budgets, even with our limited resources, no matter who's in charge, even the most incompetent Iranians, look how incompetent Iranians are in charge right now. That's incompetent by our standards, by another country's standards, these would not be incompetent. So think to how incompetent in general on average Iranians are. We know state building. That's why throughout the entirety of history, this is literally the identity of Iranians.

[00:06:35]This is why we're so proud because think to the Abbisid caliphate during the Arab invasions when the Arabs established their Islamic caliphate. It was Iranians that were in charge of bureaucracy administration because we were the experts at it. When the Turk invasions happened during the Seljuk Empire, the Seljuk dynasty, it was Iranians that were a part of the administration, the bureaucracy. We were the intelligent people that managed the empires, the foreign empires. When Alexander the Great invaded, we managed the empire for him. We were the governors. We were the military generals. They came to us to know how to rule, to how to thrive.

[00:07:06]Throughout the entirety of history, it was us. During the Mongols, they literally relied on us for administration, bureaucracy. All of these invaders, every single invader in Iranian history relied on Iranians to rule because that's how competent we are. We know this system. And that's why all these other countries collapsed, but we didn't because we knew we have the culture, we have the heritage, thousands of years of heritage of knowing how to rule an empire, how to rule a nation.

[00:07:30]That's why we are different. And another factor is the strategic geography of Iran. And this is huge. So I'm not just talking about the geography. I'm not just talking about the size of Iran, the mountains that pro protect Iran. And that's why it becomes so hard to collapse Iran externally. For example, when foreign influences, they want to they want to weaken Iran from the outside. They want to fund this separatist group from the outside. These Iraqi is hard because of the geography of Iran. But not just this, but it's about how important Iran is to the world. And if Iran collapses then the world actually [music] is severely affected because Iran is basically the center of the world when it comes to trade. Iran is actually the most important country in the world.

[00:08:10]Think to the straight of Hormuz. Think to the east west trade routes, the silk road traditionally is what you call it.

[00:08:15]The north south trade route between Russia and Africa, the Middle East in general. Iran is the most important country in the world when it comes to trade. And you can see during the assassined empire as well or the part of an empire and the Sassined Empire was the strongest empire in the world at one point during the seventh century, 6th century and 7th century it was because of trade Iran had so much control over world trade and Iran will always be very influential. And so these foreign countries they can't have Iran collapse.

[00:08:39]If Iran collapses then it damages the world very much. So for example in this current war America and Israel don't want Iran to collapse if you think about it. Because if Iran disintegrates and do you know how many issues that will cause for example with demographic changes how Iranians will migrate through to Europe to Turkey to the Arab countries. It will cause a huge mess. But not just that it will damage world trade because Iran will be in chaos and as a result the global trade will be in chaos. There will be so much chaos in trade that the global economy will collapse. So basically the whole world needs Iran to stay intact and so these are the incentives. If the entire world wants Iran to stay intact. If Iranians want Iran to stay intact, then it's very unlikely that Iran will not remain intact because everyone is aligned to this to Iran not collapsing because everyone benefits from this. If Iran collapses, maybe Israel has some evil intentions of collapsing Iran or America does or maybe there's one country that somehow benefits from it, but the rest of the world doesn't so the rest of the world will be opposed to it. And so this is why it's very unlikely Iran will collapse. But also if other countries want to influence Iran, if they want to attack Iran, if they want to weaken it exter from the external position, the geography protects Iran so much. The mountains the to the north, to the west, even to the east, there's mountains.

[00:09:48]There's mountains basically on every single border of Iran. And the desert, how are you going to go through the desert? Or for example, how big is Iran?

[00:09:54]Iran is like three times bigger than Iraq. Like that's something you need to realize. Iraq is bigger than like basically every single European country.

[00:10:01]So imagine how big Iran is if you put Europe on top of Iran. So just imagine how big Iran is. If you put Iran adjusting to its size because the world map is skewed in terms of the [music] size, Europe is actually smaller than you think it is. If you put Iran over it, then Iran actually engulfs nearly half of Europe. Iran is massive. And so this is why I mean it's hard to weaken Iran if Iran is so big and its geography protects it so well. And there's also the contribution of incentives. They if Iran collapses, then the global economy collapses. So no one wants Iran to collapse. Failure isn't just about pressure. It's about how the system responds to it. And Iran's ability to absorb this pressure is what has kept it from collapsing. It's what's kept it intact. And it's why Iran will not collapse anytime soon.
