Honey Laid a HUGE Clutch of Eggs!

[00:00:00]Okay, it is April 17th. It's technically a day off, but I made a detour running some errands because honey, our pastel special is getting really close to laying eggs. So, oh, nothing yet. Okay, I'll leave you be and I'll check tomorrow. Okay, it's been a couple days.

[00:00:20]>> Okay, honey.

[00:00:22]Oh. Oh, >> I see a white thing in there.

[00:00:26]>> Oh, she's being such good mama. Oh, we have ball python eggs.

[00:00:38]She looks so cute wrapped around her eggs. A >> we need to take those.

[00:00:43]>> We do. The reason why we have to remove her from her eggs is because pythons are one of the unique species of snakes that don't actually drop their eggs and then leave them like hog noses and bullsnakes and many other snakes do. Pythons, as you can see, actually wrap around their clutch and they have the amazing ability to quickly contract their muscles. They kind of like shiver in a sense to increase the temperature of their eggs.

[00:01:07]So, they can slightly change the temperature of the eggs only by like what a degree or two or something like that.

[00:01:13]>> Not a whole lot.

[00:01:14]>> Yeah. But during that process, which is about 2 months of incubation, they don't eat. They are such dedicated parents.

[00:01:20]So, by removing the eggs, she will start eating again, which is good cuz she hasn't eaten in a while as it is while she was developing those eggs. So, for her own health, I'm sorry, baby. I have to take your eggies. Can I unwrap you?

[00:01:35]What do we have here? Oh my gosh, look at all of those. Hi. You're such a good mama.

[00:01:41]>> Oh my gosh. You can see how indented she is.

[00:01:44]>> Yeah. Yeah. She needs some meals. This is why we are removing your eggs. Did you get them all out? Oh yeah, she definitely did.

[00:01:54]>> There was a lot of space taken up by eggs in there. So now we'll give her probably a couple days and she'll come back to normal. She'll act normal and we'll get some meals back in her again.

[00:02:06]You look fantastic for having just laid a big clutch. How many do we have? 2 4 6 8 10. Oh my gosh, that is three clutches of 10 eggs each from her.

[00:02:17]>> Yeah. every time she lays a clutch.

[00:02:19]Usually ball python clutches are like six to eight eggs. So, the fact that she always lays 10 is just incredible. She didn't breed last year. She did take a year off. We wanted her to kind >> two years off.

[00:02:34]Okay.

[00:02:34]>> Yep. So, she took last year off, so she was definitely ready to go for this year. And man, she's back at it with 10 egg clutches.

[00:02:44]>> Okay. Yeah, she deserves it. We're going to leave you in there, mama. And we're going to >> These are so big.

[00:02:49]>> They are. These are ginormous. I'm so used to like hog noose eggs.

[00:02:54]>> Dad was Joker, who is a banana clown morph. We didn't pair her to banana bread this year because banana bread is busy doing programs nowadays. And by pairing her to a banana clown instead of just a banana, him being clown means all of the babies are going to be het clown.

[00:03:12]And that means we have a variety of beautiful babies that we could make with this pairing. We could have bananas. We could have pastels cuz mom is a pastel special. We could have specials for that matter. Special passes down. And we could have a combination of those. We could have banana pastel special if we get all three. The trifecta, >> which I think we have hit in the past.

[00:03:32]>> We did last time she bred and we kept that baby, which we will definitely show you in the hatching video of these eggs probably. I don't know. Do you want to show them in this video? We can do both.

We're going to put them in our lucky incubation tray. This box has hatched so many baby snakes. Last year, we had two clutches of false water cobras hatch in here. And this is from Ariel and Josie.

[00:04:43]>> Yeah. And we have like near perfect success or 100% success rate when we hatch in this bin. So it's just great.

[00:06:37]Anyway, do you think we'll be able to separate these eggs?

[00:06:40]>> They did look like some of them were anyway. So >> Oh yeah, they are separating. So we like to separate eggs and into at least one singular level or layer of eggs. That way they all come into the same amount of contact with the perlite below.

[00:06:55]>> You're also not having a baby struggle to get out underneath.

[00:06:58]>> Yeah, but I do have to be careful. These are kind of stuck. Well, I might need scissors for that bit.

[00:07:08]There we go. Perfect. All right. Well, we can separate some of these at least.

[00:07:38]All right, we have them all nestled in and comfy. And now we have to mark the topmost part of each egg.

[00:07:43]>> We ended up only taking this one off because all the rest of them are really stuck together.

[00:07:47]>> Yeah. So, they're all one level. And I just don't want to risk tearing anything cuz they were really stuck. So, this will work well though cuz they're all coming into a good amount of contact with that perlite. We're almost done going through our list of suggestions for themes and we're going to do coffee today, but somebody has to send us a new list of ideas because I mean, we keep running out of ideas and you guys are more creative than we are. So, let's do a coffee theme.

[00:10:07]Our first clutch and probably only clutch of ball pythons this year. We're going to put these guys in our warmer incubator, which is the little one. We have the blue tree monitors still cooking. They take a half a year to incubate.

[00:10:19]>> They're close though. Put them near the bottom. Yeah, where that one is.

[00:10:22]>> Okay. Yeah, the blue tree monitors are getting really close to hatching.

[00:10:25]>> Yeah, they're less than a month away.

[00:10:27]>> Oh, no. I can't wait. And this guy is going to be for our cooler temperature species like our hog noose and bullsnakes. We need a lot more space for all of those clutches.

[00:10:36]>> Yeah, I learned today that it was still cold in there. So, I'm warming it up to see if we're good. And then I'm going to shut it off because we don't need it running and just using up electricity.

[00:10:44]>> Yeah, we're probably a week or two away from hog or bullsnake clutches, and we're going to wait until we have another species of eggs to round out today's video.

[00:10:52]>> Well, it happens. The beginning of hognos egg season has begun. We got our very first clutch of hognose eggs. I have not seen them.

[00:12:12]>> Buddy, come here, buddy. Oh, this is his first year breeding, too. And wow, actually thinking about it, we have a nice clutch for both of their first breeding seasons. This is fantastic.

[00:12:27]>> Oh, really? Oh my gosh. Okay, so I I should probably take Athena out.

[00:12:30]>> Yep. She can stay in her bin.

[00:12:32]>> Come here, Athena. Here are the proud parents. Athena, the mom here, is an albino, as you can see, and she is het forexanthic. So, she is het snow cuz albino and aanthic combined make a snowmorph. Buddy here is a arctic. So, the means he has fewer spots, especially you can see compared to hers. The arctic is kind of an axanthicy look. You really can't tell when there's only one copy of the gene. kind of see the whites around the circles is what and it's more clean pattern wise I guess >> really you want to you want a super arctctic where they have two copies of the arctic gene to really see it >> also an enhancer so it makes other genes look better >> it does but he is also het snow which means he's double het for albino and axanthic so combining these that means we have a 50/50 shot of every egg being albino and a 1 in4 shot since they're both hetanthic so one over four * 1 over half a One in every eight chance of being a snow.

[00:13:32]>> And then 50% on that top of that being Arctic.

[00:13:36]>> Yeah. And >> Oh my gosh, there's so many possibilities. We could get kind of snows in this.

[00:14:42]So, guys, in case you're new to the channel, this is called a slug egg. It means it's not fertilized. It's just a bad egg essentially. And I would explain the differences, but you can kind of see them side by side.

[00:14:54]This one's a lot more calcified. Yeah, more like a taut water balloon for your good eggs, which are also white and more rounded for hog noses.

[00:15:02]>> Yeah, for hog noses versus the slug eggs, which are very squishy, bouncy.

[00:15:05]They're like a a saggy water balloon and they're pointed at the ends and yellow, so >> they're also usually slimier.

[00:15:12]>> Yeah, a little bit. This one's actually pretty dry, but you're right, they can be a little wet to the touch. But one slug there. I think that's it. Oh, everything else is good. Let's see how many we've got.
