This video examines how national symbols like flags represent a people's identity, history, and hope, and how political agreements made without the consent of the affected population can be perceived as illegitimate and harmful. The event in Barrie, Ontario, organized by Iranian activists to raise Iran's historic Lion and Sun flag highlights the tension between diplomatic deals and the aspirations of ordinary citizens, demonstrating that political legitimacy requires the participation and consent of the people being governed.

Am I going to have a hope soon?
Iran is going to be free soon or we are going to continue for the cancer.
Scarlet Grace with Rebel News. I am here in Barry, Ontario for an event honoring National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism. The event is being put on by Iranian activists and they are doing a flag raising of the Lion and Sun flag of Iran here in Barry. And now this is significant because there have been multiple applications made to raise Iran's true flag, Iran's historic line and sun flag in the heart of Toronto at Nathan Phillips Square in front of city hall. Every single one of these applications has been denied. So if the Iranian community wishes to raise the flag for an occasion, they have to go to various different GTA cities that will allow it to be raised. But let's not forget that late 2025, last year, the Palestinian flag was raised at Toronto City Hall. That flag does not represent a country. It represents nothing but an ideology, a terrorist ideology. And that flag waved high in front of Toronto City Hall. While they deny Iran's historic line and sun flag that has thousands and thousands of years of history, we have several prominent Iranian figures speaking today, including Solar Golami, who owns and operates Saluan Boxing, which was vandalized. The same week, there was a string of vandalisms against Jewish businesses. That week of vandalisms and shootings at businesses culminated with the shooting of the US consulate, which they have finally made an arrest for. During the investigation for that particular shooting, two police officers lost their lives. A Toronto police officer, they were shot when they were attempting to arrest people in connection with the shooting. The perpetrator of the murders has finally been caught and they have tied them to an Islamist group. In attendance today, there are also Jewish allies. We have Aaron Hadida of Meen Harut who does security for a ton of these related events and who has also done security for his Imperial Majesty Resali. He has been a longtime ally and advocate for the Iranian people. This is unfortunately a day that has to be done and there has to be a lot more of them done. We have to remember the lives of every person who has been murdered, who has been brutalized and taken from this planet. That is the mission moving forward and every one of your voices count. You are all proof that the fight will never end. And as Jesse said, the the Canadian Jewish community stands beside you always. You are the children of Cyrus the Great, and we wouldn't be standing here without Cyrus.
>> We also have Jesse from Stand with Us, who made a speech as well. The Jewish people stand in solidarity with the Iranians during this time. What an honor it is to be here today to join you in raising the lion in the sun flag. A representation of one of the most beautiful, richest, and greatest civilizations in human history. The flag is usually reserved, a flag is usually reserved to represent a nation, a government, a people. This flag means so much more. It represents a people, their identity, their history, and their hope.
And I'm here to assure you today that in that quest, in that hope, the Jewish community and all good, peace-loving, democratic people in Canada stand with you in that hope.
>> Time and this time is actually very difficult for them because Trump has just announced a deal with the Islamic Republic. The Iranian people feel betrayed by this. He did tell them that help was on the way to continue protesting. take over your institutions and that America stood with them. Well, America is now standing with the very murderers of their people. A 100,000 people people have been killed since the end of last year trying to overthrow their government believing that America stood with them.
>> You want to see trouble, let them have a nuclear weapon. We're doing very well with Iran. They've been decimated and we're making a deal with them and we'll see how that all goes. This deal does nothing but betray the Iranian people.
I'm going to try and ask some people today how they're feeling about that and where do we go from here? As an Iranian, especially as a woman from Iran, it's really hard to understand what's going on right now and it's very confusing because during these times we we had a lot of hope that someone are going to help us to get over this dictatorship.
But unfortunately after the deal we get so so honestly um disappointed. We are disappointed.
>> We are not happy. Honestly, we are not happy about this deal. This is not a fair deal because the main uh element of the deal which is a people of Iran they are not in any side of the table you know. Well, that's this is uh a deal between the US and the terrorist regime occupying Iran.
It does not Iranians did not we did not sign off on this. This is not a credible deal. This is not a legal deal. You cannot make a deal with a occupying force. If we remember the Nazis leader, they could get into Nuremberg court, international Nuremberg court after the Nazis leader confess that we did all those criminals. So this is I in the surface is agreement but at the at the background it could be a lot of things we don't know. One of the things that I just want to make sure we do is uh for having one minute of silence in memory of the victims of terrorism and more than 40,000 people who were killed by the regime in two days in January. So please just one minute of silence now starting now.
So, in light of the recent deal that Trump is trying to make with the Islamic Republic, you're not Iranian, but you're part of the Jewish community. What would your message be to the Iranian community right now?
>> Don't lose hope. Stand up. Fight like you do every day of the week. Do not lose hope. This is not going to be decided by some politician or even a president. This is going to be decided by God. What's right is right. What's wrong is wrong. And this is wrong. And innocent people are dying and being tortured and suffering every day of the week. And that's wrong. And it has to change. We have to fight it with everything we have. The Jewish community is right behind the Iranian community.
And we always always will be because after October 7th, we look beside us and the only one standing with us was the Iranian community. Period.
>> We're in such a sensitive time right now. I know I know a lot of us are so worried about our families in Iran and uh we might feel confused. Why is President Trump suddenly turning his back on Israel? Why is JD Van saying so many questionable disrespectful comments? But you ultimately have that political influence. So you don't need to be elected. You don't need to even have a think tank just by showing up by attending. You have so much power. So please keep doing this. come out. It's not easy. I know the weather's so nice, you want to go relax, but right now the regime, you're making them upset by coming out here. And that's your power.
Make them angry by being unified. Show that flag. Stay unified. And we will get our country back. And soon we'll have Jean, our crown prince res speak in parliament in Ottawa with our great conservative MPs. And >> that's something that unfortunately I can say the most of the politician today close their eyes on the massacre that happened on the January 8 and 9. This is the last latest one that's happened and we are not happy. We are not happy with whatever President Trump says or even his uh vice president >> JD W. No, we are not happy. We are not happy at all.
>> Yes. It's it's not a deal for us.
Iranians don't see that as a deal whatsoever.
>> It's like someone has stage four cancer and the doctors start to treat it and it become became stage one and then they leave it. Okay. then we are done. No, you have to finish it. So if you don't finish your job that you started, of course we get confused, we get mad, we get sad, especially after the genociding that they did. Other than 47 years that they keep killing people till a couple of years ago in the name of God, they were mass we are um from God. Now they're really open. They don't even hesitate to hide it. So they're killing people freely, easily, and everybody in the world are watching. And we are not facing just one p one person.
We are facing many countries against the Iranian people.
>> So you believe there's more to the deal.
There's stuff going on behind the scenes. Don't give up hope yet.
>> Yes. Because you know the what we know that none of the regime in the whole entire history if doesn't have a uh internal legitimacy cannot exist this regime has problem with the int legitimacy within people of Iran and also a board I mean you know they they are again a lot of countries that are against, you know, this regime.
Morning.
Short.
Hold your >> If you could give any message to President Donald Trump, what would you say right now? Uh I am an ordinary Iranian but I'm going to based on my living experience and based on the knowing these people I can say that he's doing the massive and huge mistake. That's I can say you can never make a deal with a terrorist regime. If you ever imagine you can make them change I should say you're really wrong. Uh it's just not going to happen. Uh they're going to stab you in the west in the back. Uh so far they've been taking it bad on us. Uh they will never stay contained in Iran. Uh and they will they will come here. They are already here.
They'll expand here and they'll be hunting everybody in the west. So the next um would be would be us here. I'll just tell you that you anything that you do that reinforces their or legitimizes the Iranian regime means you're opening doors to major terrorism in the west.
>> So we are fighting for many countries in Europe. We are fighting for uh other countries that they have advantage from uh government of Iran. when I'm saying government don't say um I don't believe they're government people are hostages in Iran to be honest but so all this together as a woman just can't please someone tell me what is going on am I going to have a hope soon Iran is going to be free soon or we are going to continue for the cancer that's my feeling to be honest with It's great to be here. Uh my name is Lana Bark and I'm here on behalf of Honorable Andrea Kenjen, the member of Provincial Parliament for Barry Inisville, Ontario's Minister of Red Tape Production. Uh MPP Kenjen would like to honor today's event with a scroll and I will read this scroll on her behalf.

It is my privilege to join you all today on behalf of the province of Ontario to recognize the fifth national day of remembrance for victims of terrorism.
This day provides an opportunity to honor the memory of those whose lives were taken or forever changed by acts of terrorism. We remember the victims, stand with survivors, and ensure that their stories and legacies are never forgotten. We also stand shouldertosh shoulder in confronting the profound impact that terrorism has on families, communities, and nations. As we reflect on the consequences of hatred and violence, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting peace, safeguarding our communities, and upholding the values of democracy, freedom, and respect that unite us. Sincerely, Andrea Kenjen, MPP for Barry Inisville.
