Ambitious people often fail to complete their goals due to five key psychological patterns: (1) The Dopamine Hit - our brains crave instant gratification, making it hard to complete difficult tasks; (2) The Perfectionism Trap - we quit the day after our first failure, believing one setback ruins everything; (3) The Identity Gap - we remain stuck in our old identity rather than adopting the identity of someone who achieves their goals; (4) Saying Yes to the Wrong Things - we pursue goals that don't truly motivate us; (5) The Messy Middle - we quit right before things get comfortable, when we would see progress. The solution involves breaking tasks into smaller pieces to get dopamine from completion, adopting the identity of someone who achieves their goals, and understanding that one failure doesn't ruin everything.

Why Ambitious People Never Finish What They StartAdded:
For most of my life, I was someone who started everything and finished nothing.
Like the book that I bought thinking that it's going to change my life only to read it half and the cute journal that I only use 10 times. Gym membership, halftone courses, a whole graveyard of half done things. And for the longest time, I thought there's something wrong with me until [music] I learned that it's nothing to do with the laziness. Because there are actually five reason why this happened to most ambitious [music] person and in this video I'm going to give you the exact blueprint that helped me get out of that loop to start and build this YouTube channel, start my business and quit my 9 to5 [music] at age of 36. So you definitely want to grab pen and paper.
So let's go. Have you had a situation where you sit down to work and tell yourself [music] that today is the day you're going to stay so focused and you are going to finish all your tasks. And guess what happened? 10 minutes later you are scrolling and then you realize oh let me do some research oh wait a second how come we're watching YouTube video and this is how 2our passed by trust me we all been there and this is the problem number one and no nothing is wrong with you this is how our brain function our brain craves dopamine hit so what is happening when you sit down and doing the thing that feels hard and then your brain craves the instant dopamine so what do you do you just screw control, you feel good and then you do more and more and that's exactly why we never finish our task. So when we think about grabbing a book, we're not just thinking about finishing the book.
Our brain instantly get the dopamine hit. Oh my god, I am someone who reads the book, but we never actually finish it because the brain already got the dopamine hit. Now that book just sit on the nightstand. So what is the fix? Very simple. You know what? You also get the dopamine hit when you finish the task.
But the only way how you get it is when you tell your brain when you break down that excitement into the smaller pieces.
Meaning when you tell yourself that you are okay to scroll until I just finish the one task only. I'm allowed to watch YouTube video until I read the one page and that's it. And that's how exactly every single day I do it. Because if you're relying on motivation then it's not going to happen. But wait a second, this is not the only problem because finishing once is not enough. Because if you have the mindset that if you fail one day everything is ruined because that's when the reason number two comes and it happened to most of us. The problem is when we tell ourselves that every single day we're going to wake up 5:00 a.m. and 3 days we're straight up waking up and then the fourth day come.
Now we're hitting the snooze button.
It's [music] 7:30 already and now my whole routine is ruined. And this is [music] the problem. When we see the one day failure as a whole thing ruined, that's when we stay stuck in this cycle.
I am working on this diet. I told myself many many times before like a piece of chocolate is not breaking my whole diet and if I skip my gym one day that doesn't mean that I'm never going to go gym again. And you know everything changed when I actually came across this study and this blew my mind. Author Johnov studied 900 people who are working towards their goal and what he found surprised everyone. People don't quit on the day one. They quit the day after first fail. Tell me if I'm the only one. Tell me in the comments if this does not happen [music] to you because the perfectionism in us telling us that how can you ruin that because when we plan something we plan the perfect picture but life gets in the way and life is not perfect but we never plan for that and you know the thing is what you do after that one day of fail determines if you are going to achieve your goal or not and that just changed my whole mindset it's not that I didn't have the hard days there are days where I'm not able to wake up But I know that next day I'm just going to wake up again and again and again. This is how [music] I was able to pull myself back over and over and stick with my goals. So fix is so simple. Tell yourself that one day of failure does not mean that everything is ruined. If you're not able to read book on one day, then tell yourself that next day I'm going to try to read at least one page. By the way, if you have made yourself a goal to start your YouTube channel and the reason why you cannot stay consistent is because you are thinking you have no idea, then I have a solution for you. The reason what you're missing is system, clarity, and confidence. And this is exactly what I can help you with. Link is in the description box below to [music] book a direct call with me. Now, back to the video because life is not that straightforward because the next reason is something I'm pretty sure you have not thought about and that is a gamecher for me. The reason why the book is sitting on your nightstand is not because you cannot see it. Is right there. You know that it's there and you can easily grab it, but you still grab your phone is because [music] you are still living in the old identity. The reason why your gym memberships are unused because you're still telling yourself that you are someone who easily skipped the gym. You are someone who was never going to use the gym membership.
And that's a problem. And the solution is very [music] simple. that exactly is the missing piece in your puzzle and that have definitely helped [music] me a lot. So when I started this YouTube channel, I didn't tell myself that oh I am going to start my YouTube channel. I tell myself that I'm a YouTuber and I am someone who's going to post every single week no matter what happened. I shift my identity. And now pause this video and write down any goals that you have and write down what is the identity that you need. For example, if your goal is that I wanted to be [music] able to finish all my book, then don't write that I read books. Write that I am someone who read at least one page a day. If you want to be healthy and want to go gym every single day, then tell yourself I am someone who takes care of her body. I am someone who takes care of her meal. I am someone who finish at least three task a day. When you write down this way, your brain automatically locks that [music] identity. And the more action you take every single day, the more evidence you're giving your brain to remember that you are someone who start and finish all your tasks. But hold on a second. What about the reason number four? Because I know I have been there.
Most of the time we're saying yes to the goals that doesn't even matter to us.
And now this is the right time. Whatever goals you have, write down how much are you actually care about achieving that goals. Because the problem is when you say yes to everything, you're not actually motivated to do that thing. Oh, because you saw someone is starting a business, automatically you thought this is my goal. If someone started reading a book, automatically you thought, oh, I'm going to be someone who's going to read the book every single day. Even when your schedule doesn't allow it, maybe audiobooks works better for you. If you are someone just had a baby and you told yourself, I am going to wake up 5:00 a.m. in the morning. Yeah, that's the problem. you are saying yes to everything and the fix is very simple write down all the goals that you have how much you are actually motivated and honestly I have something that I am so ashamed to admit but I'm going to share with you so I have this moisturizer sitting on my kitchen countertop every single day I'm seeing this for last 3 weeks it even has a note which says return this like you don't need any more visibility than this but it's still it's sitting there you know why because I'm not motivated I am not motivated to do this task. And it's not that I'm a lazy person. I can film the video, run the business, and raise my kid, but I cannot go and return the moisturizer. Why?
Because I'm not motivated. It does not drive my motivation. And the worst is the consequences are not even that big.
What will happen? I will either lose 20 or 30 bucks, but it does not make a huge impact. And this is the reason. This is how we're treating our goals, the hobbies, the routine the same way. Think about it. How much do you really care to finish that task? [music] And write down how much you are motivated. And if you are not, then that's not your goal. Then you need to stick with what you truly wants. But can I tell you something? And this is going to sting you a lot.
Another reason why we start and never finish anything is because when we start something, we have that dopamine. We're excited, but we never imagine how the task is going to be. So you told yourself the goal is that I'm going to go gym every single day. You're going a week later when your body is tired. You are sore. You have never planned this.
You have no idea that this is how it's going to go. And now you have every single reason to quit because your body is hurting. You're tired. And on top of that, you also made a goal to wake up 5:00 a.m. Wait, you're not even getting enough rest. So how are you going to stick with that? Because [music] this is where 97% people quit and that is the messy middle when things get hard because we never imagined that we never plan that when we see people are starting their YouTube channel building their channel making lots of money all we think about making lots of money freedom that's exactly how I thought but when things get hard recording video is hard it's not that easy you have to plan your script you have to figure out how you're going to film and then you have to speak on the camera for 15 [music] 20 minutes and then you got to edit, post, thumbnail, all of that. It's so hard, Ankita. Well, that's the problem. And well, this is the reason why most people don't succeed because we quit right before things start to get comfortable because things always get messy in the middle and then it gets [music] comfortable and that's when you're going to see the progress. But we quit right before the things get hard. [music] and write down all the things that you have abandoned for a second and now go back.
Why did you abandon? You stopped going to the gym because it was so hard to fit in your routine. You abandoned that book because you didn't have that time. Now think about why did you abandon anything and now think about all the reason and that's exactly why you're not able to finish it. So let me tell you something.
You're not lazy. This is how a brain is wired. Your brain is wired to [music] hit that dopamine. And when you quit the day after you fail, that's when you abandon your goals because you didn't even collect enough [music] evidence to tell your brain that you are someone who has capability to finish the [music] task. And when you're saying yes to every single goal, trust me, it's not a character flaw. That is how our [music] brain function. And it is just a pattern. And once you understand the pattern, that's when you know how to break them. And that's exactly what helped me. Not that I became a different person. I have a different motivation or I know something that most people don't know. It is [music] because of all these five reasons. If you watch this far, then you definitely care about your goals. And if you write down all the reasons and write down what is the one reason that's always a pattern in your life, that's when you're going to make [music] that change. And if you are dare enough, I want you to write that in the comments below because for me it was always the perfectionism and the identity gap. If you enjoy this video, I'm going to recommend this video right here. [music] See you right there.
