you don't need a pulpit to be in ministry

[00:00:00]There was a time maybe about 12 to 13 years ago when I had a job. I was praying to the Lord to give me more hours and I started to complain. I literally started saying why they put me on the schedule so much. I don't want to work this much. And then one day the Lord spoke to me. He said y'all. Welcome back to my YouTube channel, Memoirs by Mariah. I'm Mariah and on my channel, I like to share stories and testimonies of my faith walk to encourage you in yours. And I want to ask you guys a question. Did you know that your life is ministry? Like your everyday day-to-day life is ministry.

[00:00:47]So, I didn't know that. Well, I used to not know that. I used to think that in order to be in ministry that you had to be on a pull pit or you had to have a microphone or something like that. But I was so very wrong until I came to this revelation that every single one of us has a ministry. One of the definitions of ministry in the Bible means service of God. So everything you do is literally ministry unto the Lord. I have learned that the way that I treat strangers, the way that I treat cashiers at the store is ministry. How I show up as a wife, mom, friend is all ministry.

[00:01:26]How I steward my finances and even the gifts that God has given me is ministry.

[00:01:31]And even keeping my house or car clean is even ministry unto the Lord. Showing up for work on time and even working with an excellent spirit is also ministry. There was a quote that I saw some years ago that said something like, "Your life is the only Bible that some people will read." There are a lot of people out there that aren't Christians and there are people that have vowed that they would never read the Bible.

[00:01:57]But when you live by the word of God and when you come to the realization and the revelation that your life is ministry, you do things different and people can see, okay, something is different about her. What is it? And literally when you're living the word of God out loud through your day-to-day life, that's like the Bible that they read until they come to know the Lord themselves. I matured more in the Lord when I came to this realization because the Bible says in Colossians 3 and23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters. since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. That is so good. And I learned to take that scripture as my own because I have worked jobs before that I did not like.

[00:02:49]Honestly, there are some jobs that I hated. And so I would not put my all.

[00:02:54]Like I wouldn't give all my effort. But when I came across the scripture, I started to think, okay, let me work at this job like I'm doing it for the Lord.

[00:03:04]Like literally, I'm doing this for Jesus. And things started to change.

[00:03:08]Even with keeping like my house clean or doing like very mundane and boring and repetitive things like when we do very repetitive things that are boring, we tend to not give it our all. But I started to think, let me act like I'm doing this for Jesus and let me really do it unto him and literally things started to shift in me. There was a time maybe about 12 to 13 years ago when I had a job. I was working at a grocery store and I was in college and I was begging, okay? I was praying to the Lord to give me more hours because I think they only had me on the schedule for like a few hours once or twice a week. and being a college student like you need money. And so I started to pray to God, God, I need more hours. I need more hours. So I prayed that for a little bit and then I completely forgot that prayer, right? And it wasn't maybe couldn't have been a month later. I want to say two two weeks, maybe 3 weeks max.

[00:04:07]Completely forgot about that prayer. And they were working me like every day, literally at least 5 days out the week.

[00:04:14]And especially on the weekend, like on Sundays, I had a fullblown like 8 hour shift. And mind you, most people go grocery shopping on Sundays to prepare for the week. So these days were busy.

[00:04:27]And I started to complain. I literally started saying, why they put me on the schedule so much? I don't want to work this much. Like I want to be back in my room, in my dorm room. Like I got stuff to do. And so I just became tired and I just started doing stuff half like halfway. I was not doing things to the best of my ability. And then one day, the Lord spoke to me and he said, "Didn't you ask me to give you more hours?" And I was like, I was like, "Yeah, you're right." I had to repent. I had to repent because I was complaining. I had to repent because I wasn't being thankful. And I also had to repent because I was doing things halfway. Like I was not doing things as unto the Lord. And there was also a time when I was single when I did not steward my finances well. There was a period of time when I barely had any expenses, literally had almost no responsibilities. And every month I had a good chunk of money left over. And because I had that money left over each month, I thought that money was to spend. So I never saved anything. It never occurred into my mind that oh let me put some of this away and let me let me put some of it aside so I can spend that but I could save that or maybe I could invest that. That just never occurred in my mind. And now as a mother I have learned that motherhood is ministry and how I treat my baby is ministry. I love my baby so much. Okay.

[00:05:54]But sometimes he likes to crawl all over me and touch all over me and pull my hair and it can just get a little overstimulating sometimes. So instead of yelling or getting frustrated because I mean he is still a baby, I have learned to invite the Holy Spirit in. And I asked the Lord, "Give me patience. Show me how to parent my son well. Show me what he needs. Show me how to react right now. Show me what to do. um show me how to just be a good mother to him.

[00:06:25]And literally every single time it works out. It works out. So when you live like this, knowing that everything you do is ministry unto the Lord, I feel like your life just goes just a little bit smoother and you're more intentional about your actions. Having a ministry is not just reserved for those in the pull pit. And it goes beyond your prayer closet. You can't honor God in private but then not steward the things well that he has given you in public. And this even includes your health. And this is something that I have gone on a journey with with the Lord and I hope to share with you guys someday because it has been a journey with my health. So, I want to encourage you guys to really take on the scripture in Colossians 3 and 23- 24 and to really start living your life in every area of your life like it's ministry unto the Lord. We become better servants that way. We become way more intentional in the things that we do and the glory of the Lord can shine through us easier because we are doing things for the Lord. We are doing things as unto the Lord. So, I am curious to know if you guys have heard this before and if you have heard this revelation, what did your life look like before versus now?
