The new MAI image 2.5 was part of a larger rollout by Microsoft made during the Build 2026 event, which released another six models along with it, spanning coding, image generation, transcription, voice, and their first-ever reasoning model, MAI thinking one. All a part of their effort to reduce dependency on OpenAI and Anthropic. However, the MAI image 2.5 rollout is interesting for more reasons than just one.

[00:00:53]GBD image 2 has been a clear winner in almost every aspect. Let me of course list them down for you. Text rendering, instruction following, artistic range, accessibility. But Microsoft's MAI image 2.5 is a disruptor. It has debuted at second place in image editing leaderboard on arena.ai, and third place in the next to text to image leaderboard, bringing in new capabilities. Like let's say preserving recognizable faces across edits, controlling the scene and style, generating logos, typography, and responsive text edits from natural cues.

[00:01:30]A potential to become a pillar in the marketing space. Now while MAI image 2.5 has made a bold introduction, it still lags behind. It's inability to handle conflicting and complex prompts, uh anatomical oddities while producing photorealistic human beings. These could be challenges for the new model. It may have actually carved too narrow a niche by becoming friendly toward brand and product marketing generation. GPT GPT image 2 continues to be the leader in the image generation space. Fair. As we of course had mentioned before, its versatility is notable and therefore far more desirable.
