Enola Holmes 3, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge, is set to release on Netflix in summer 2026, following the successful first two films. Directed by Philip Barantini (who replaced Harry Bradbeer) and written by Jack Thorne, the film will explore colonial themes and mature storytelling, marking a darker evolution from the previous films. The production began filming in April 2025 in the UK and Malta, with a budget estimated between $20-30 million. The cast includes Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, Himesh Patel as Dr. John Watson, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty.

ENOLA HOLMES 3 (2026) Louis Partridge & Millie Bobby BrownAdded:
All right.
Hold your back straight.
Now I'll place my hand here and here. Oh, yes.
Hold your arm out.
Millie Bobby Brown is back on the case once again in Enola Holmes 3 and yeah, it's happening this year. The sharp young detective returns along with a bunch of familiar faces you already know. This time even traveling abroad doesn't give her a break. Mystery basically follows her everywhere.
Enola's heading to the island nation of Malta and while the reason she ends up there is still under wraps, things quickly get messy. The moment she arrives, she's thrown straight into a dangerous situation. On top of cracking a new case, she's also figuring out what's next in her relationship with Tewkesbury, Louis Partridge. Safe to say things are about to get interesting because the game is definitely on. Just a quick refresher, Enola Holmes is based on the Enola Holmes mysteries by Nancy Springer. It was originally supposed to hit theaters through Warner Brothers Pictures, but plans changed and it ended up on Netflix because of everything that went down in 2020. The first movie led by Millie Bobby Brown stuck pretty close to the books while Enola Holmes 2 took a bit more creative freedom and just used the source material as inspiration. Both films were directed by Harry Bradbeer.
The first movie actually did really well. It even landed on Netflix's most watched list for a while pulling in about 189.90 million hours watched in its first 28 days. The sequel, which dropped in November 2022, also performed strong staying in the global top 10 for 4 weeks and racking up around 158.03 million hours watched. And looking at Netflix's engagement reports, the numbers are still solid. Throughout 2023, the first film was watched about 13.9 million people while the sequel did even better with around 21 million viewers. Not long after Enola Holmes 2 dropped, rumors about a third movie started popping up everywhere, but nothing was really confirmed at the time. Then Collider was the first to report that Enola Holmes 3 was actually in the works. That news came from a conversation with Netflix's then head of film, Scott Stuber, who basically hinted that they were interested in continuing the story and making another movie happen. By August 2024, it was finally confirmed that Netflix was working on Enola Holmes 3. Then in November, Deadline reported a big change behind the scenes. Philip Barantini would be stepping in as director taking over from Harry Bradbeer. Barantini's got a solid track record, too, with work on shows like Band of Brothers, Chernobyl, and more recently Boiling Point.
He is also the guy who made the one-take crime drama Adolescence.
Meanwhile, Jack Thorne, known for his dark materials, is back to write the script. This time around, the sequel is expected to lean a bit darker compared to the first two films and is aiming for a slightly more mature audience. Writer Jack Thorne also dropped a few hints about what's coming and it sounds like this one might feel pretty different from the others. "I had some unfinished business with Enola Holmes that I wanted to do in a totally different way that told a different side of British society," he explained to Radio Times.
"I always thought of Enola Holmes as a sort of cheat, as a way of understanding 19th century British society. The first film was about land reform and vote reform. The second film was about the birth of the Union and third film looks at our colonial and just trying to capture those different elements I find really exciting." Jack Thorne also mentioned that working with the new director brought in some different elements, especially since he'd already teamed up with Philip Barantini on Adolescence. He added that things feel different on the acting side, too, with Millie Bobby Brown now being in a totally different place in her life after having a baby.
"So it was trying to capture what it is to be a grown-up Enola Holmes. It was trying to capture what is a Phil Barantini version of Enola Holmes," he added. The cast of Enola Holmes 3 brings back a bunch of familiar faces starting with Millie Bobby Brown, who returns as the sharp and fearless Enola Holmes.
Alongside her, Louis Partridge is back as Tewkesbury continuing their story from the previous films. The Holmes family is also making a return with Henry Cavill once again stepping into the role of Sherlock Holmes and Helena Bonham Carter coming back as Enola's unconventional mother, Eudoria Holmes.
On top of that, the film introduces a few key additions. Himesh Patel joins the cast as Dr. John Watson while Sharon Duncan-Brewster takes on the role of Moriarty setting up a potentially intense new dynamic for Enola to deal with. It's also been confirmed that Philip Barantini teamed up again with cinematographer Matthew Lewis, who previously worked with him on Boiling Point. On the visual side, Gary Williamson handled production design while Aaron May and David Ridley are taking care of the score. As for production, the film is backed by Legendary Entertainment with producers including Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, Joshua Grode, and Alex Garcia. Millie Bobby Brown is also producing through her company PCMA Productions. Executive producers include Jake Jovi and Isabel Richards for PCMA alongside Michael Dreyer.
In January 2026, during Next on Netflix 2026, Netflix officially confirmed that Enola Holmes 3 is set to drop in summer 2026. They're clearly treating it as one of their big blockbuster releases for the season. The announcement also gave fans a little extra to get excited about with a few first look images teasing what's coming next. In the first look image, Tewkesbury is seen presenting Enola Holmes with a flower in a seriously swoon-worthy moment. He's down on one knee while she looks completely caught off guard, her lips slightly parted like she's just about to respond.
So is she going to say yes? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Filming for Enola Holmes 3 officially kicked off on April 10, 2025 in the United Kingdom not long after Millie Bobby Brown wrapped her year-long shoot on Stranger Things season 5. Production started at Shepperton Studios and Netflix confirmed it with a cast reveal and promo video later that month.
>> [music] >> After wrapping up in the UK, the team moved over to Malta for the final stretch of filming and they really made the most of it. They shot across some stunning locations like Valletta, Mdina, Mellieħa, Ħaġar Qim, and the Malta Film Studios.
>> [music] >> The production ended up being a big win for the local economy, too, hiring over 360 local crew members and benefiting from Malta's film rebate program.
Even officials like Owen Bonnici visited the set and praised the project for bringing opportunities and attention to the region. Of course, things weren't completely smooth. During the Malta shoot, production hit a bit of a snag when a food poisoning incident temporarily shut things [music] down. A few cast and crew members, including Brown, got sick after reportedly eating contaminated seafood. Thankfully, everyone recovered pretty quickly and filming was back on track soon after, officially wrapping on June 27, 2025.
By the end of it all, director Philip Barantini confirmed the wrap with a post online while Brown shared some behind-the-scenes pics with a caption, "Case closed." As for the budget, reports suggest it's somewhere between 20 to 30 million dollars. Story-wise, since the movies have started doing their own thing instead of strictly following the books, the ending of Enola Holmes 2 gives us a few clues. Enola has now opened her own detective agency in London, Sherlock Holmes is teaming up with Dr. Watson, and Moriarty is still out there. So yeah, expect things to get a little more intense from here. Just like the first two films, Enola Holmes 3 will once again carry a PG-13 rating. We also now know the runtime. It's clocking in at 1 hour and 45 minutes. For comparison, Enola Holmes was 2 hours and 4 minutes while Enola Holmes 2 ran for 2 hours and 11 minutes. So yeah, this one's the shortest of the three, especially since the first two both crossed the 2-hour mark.
Well, that's it for today. Let me know what you think in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe because we'll be covering more updates on this soon.
[music] See you next time.
